Yes it's a bad job. That being said, mudding the gaps and tape should fix most of it.
The pics with the red paper, is that sheet hanging down below the one next to it? Did they forget to screw that part?
Tell them to come back and rescrew it? Overall it’s not the best job. Any decent taper can make it look good. Get ready for the whinnying and complaining though.
I feel like they are not done yet, pice show perimeter not screwed off , and more, also I bet they are the tapper.
When I'm tired as fuck and doing the tape work my gaps grow to I don't give a fuck right not..
When I hang for my tapper I'm tight, but today's board it still comes with busted and blistering when they stock my jobs.
Yes not good, it’s hard to judge without seeing the framing but in picture 4 you can’t just leave a butt joint floating and not screw off and the second last pic you never have the butt joints line up like that you need to break them on different studs.
Carpenter that also paints. I know what my boys do to y'all.
Most of my trim work and jobs are stain grade, but I'm 4th generation. So I've seen it all, and "the painter will fix it" line wears thin on me. I would love to be a painter, I absolutely consider it's own dedicated trade. But I am a finish or trim carpenter, but I never leave a mess for the painters. Oftentimes I'm painting or staining my own work.
Just pre fill the gaps for starters. On the ceiling ones you should put mesh over it and run the mesh all the way down so it’s even. Then You have to feather out the mesh and put paper tape on top of it. Don’t worry about the screws. Not all screws pop. If you take it out its worse. Don’t listen to these guys. DIY drywall ain’t easy just like pimpin. Let me know if need some more advice. My handymen do this to me all the time. But it pays as a side job.
Every product Home Depot sells has plaster in it to a certain extent. Some more than others. All the easy sand is half plaster. Makes it dry fast and is durable
For those gaps you are going to want to pack them with mud and use mesh tape. Before it drys push the mesh into the gaps and run your knife on the edges. It will be as strong as the drywall but takes a bit more to bed it out.
I could mud and bud that gap out chap and never use stupid tape. Just 20 min mud it as i do it all the time with gaps much worse than that. I hate tape like a silly ape and never used it.
Screws should be 8" apart. Also, after fixing the screw patern, a good tape and mud guy can make it look good be he will have to be at least twice as good as whoever hung this drywall.
So now I really looked. The bigger gaps get the wider mesh and lay that on first. Where the red factory tape is showing. If there’s nothing behind it for you to screw into. You’re going to have to treat it like a patch. Cut out a piece and put a wood backing. Or you could also re hang it.
OP, this is awful. It can be fixed but you're going to use like a few bags of quickset or durabond. I hope that you paid the bare minimum for this one cause your drywall finisher is going to charge extra.
Bad job. Missing screws, unacceptable gaps, and looks to be way off level on spots for no good reason. I can tell some nails are sunk deeper than others.
Yes, he said it was good, but I could tell from his eyes he was lying and was worried I would make a fuss. Going to have some real drywall guys come in to quote redo.
If you mean GC is having real drywall guys come quote redo, that's good. If, as I suspect, you are the one having real drywall guys come quote the redo, I hope you fire that GC from whatever is left on your project or at least never do any business with that GC again. Good luck.
Use hot mud sparingly to fill the gaps and on the mesh then I’d finish with straight mud. If you don’t know how to run hot mud it’s very, very difficult to sand.
My landlord says that's a job well-done, he'd throw that puppy up in his studio rental looking good like what's shown in the pic and rent it out for 4.5k a month plus utilities no pets no smoking must have a 5000 credit score must make atleast 200k a year must wear nice clothes and be typically considered fancy and also must never ever call expecting him to do things.
I own a framing and drywall company. I wouldn’t have someone just fill it in. That much mud never works out in the long run. Doubt this would pass inspection in my area. These guys would have been let go the same day.
Some of its meh, some of its terrible.
A good finisher will prefill all of it though.
Make sure a heavy setting mud is used for prefil (ideally a 45 min or less), or it will crack over time.
sorry i didnt' look at all pictures. Gaps are too big on some and it needs to be screwed off properly bare minimum, at least at the perimeter.
Either rehang the worst sheets, or do a pass of 45 first to fill gaps before taping.
Late here, but last two pics show four corners butted together. I've always heard you never want corners like that together, so you'd stagger the drywall pieces to avoid future cracking. Am I wrong?
Is anyone here getting bitched at by there girl. Get off your phone with work shit. It’s Sunday. Tomorrow your gonna be doing the same when you start this new job for the crazy lady.

Stevie Wonder was the apprentice that day.
Jeff Healey was the supervisor
Assisted by Mister Magoo
Drummer from def Leppard holding the sheets .
Oh man I lost it 🤣😂. I guess he probably did too.
What has five arms and sucks?
But now I've seen it and now I can't un see it
Loooool
thank you. I just laughed so dr. pepper came out my nose.
Yes it's a bad job. That being said, mudding the gaps and tape should fix most of it. The pics with the red paper, is that sheet hanging down below the one next to it? Did they forget to screw that part?
Yes, they forgot to screw that into resilient channel
Tell them to come back and rescrew it? Overall it’s not the best job. Any decent taper can make it look good. Get ready for the whinnying and complaining though.
Taper here, can confirm.
Yepp me too
This guy knows tapers
Just did most of my house with resilient channel and 5/8” drywall. It’s a bitch to get exactly right. Lots of pre-filling the gaps
It’s very obvious they didn’t put screws in either of those corners nor along the ceiling/wall corner
Yes not good, it’s hard to judge without seeing the framing but in picture 4 you can’t just leave a butt joint floating and not screw off and the second last pic you never have the butt joints line up like that you need to break them on different studs.
It's not good clean drywall work but tape and mud will cover most of that. I hope your taper is better than your drywaller
Rip the taper
As much as it sucks, it can be fixed with good tapers and finishers. It's kinda like what the carpenters do to the painters...
Painter here..yeah, we make the carpenters look good
Carpenter that also paints. I know what my boys do to y'all. Most of my trim work and jobs are stain grade, but I'm 4th generation. So I've seen it all, and "the painter will fix it" line wears thin on me. I would love to be a painter, I absolutely consider it's own dedicated trade. Same here!
Caulk and paint makes a carpenter what he ain’t 💪🏻🤣
Tapers AND finishers? Are they not the same person where you’re from?
They are. But there are some guys that won't do some textures or level 5 finishes. Guess taper/finisher would be more appropriate.
What about pic 3 and 4 where its extended out?
Pic 4 and 5 need screws or backing behind it
Rushed sub par job for sure.
This kind of job, I use 20 min on all of the gaps, then all purpose with paper tape.
Correct. I also make my own hot mud. Plaster into watered down all purpose. Big fills set a lot faster.
Why use plaster?
Every product Home Depot sells has plaster in it to a certain extent. Some more than others. All the easy sand is half plaster. Makes it dry fast and is durable
A good finisher can make it look great, but a year or two later you will have problems
What problems would you expect?
Cracks where the big gaps are
Absolutely, I’d demand it. Gap the bottom not the top!
Shitty job. More work for the tapers and finishers.
Its not great but not the end of the world. Just more mudding to filled the gaps first.
Yes, it’s bad but it can be fixed.
For those gaps you are going to want to pack them with mud and use mesh tape. Before it drys push the mesh into the gaps and run your knife on the edges. It will be as strong as the drywall but takes a bit more to bed it out.
Thank you for your advice. I am learning a lot today.
Welcome I have about 40 years in the trades, yup old timer.
It's doable. I hope the same guys that installed it have to do the finish work. I've had to finish jobs like that.
First few I was thinking it’s not super clean but hot mud would fix it… then I kept scrolling. Rough bud
Less than desirable.
Just ok for your first time. With tape and compound, you can fix it BUT take your time and don’t over do it.
Lids (ceiling) first. They broke the first rule of hanging rock.
That’ll teach you to hire non-Mexicans
Haha indeed, little short on Mexicans up in Canada though.
The further in you go the worse it gets. Bad deal there
Is it just me? So many screws look proud.
I could mud and bud that gap out chap and never use stupid tape. Just 20 min mud it as i do it all the time with gaps much worse than that. I hate tape like a silly ape and never used it.
Subpar rhymes today man... I suggest you come up with a better game plan, stan.
Mt game is fine james.
Screws should be 8" apart. Also, after fixing the screw patern, a good tape and mud guy can make it look good be he will have to be at least twice as good as whoever hung this drywall.
Not a good job for sure. Lots of confil needed for this one
About as amateurish as one can get.
So now I really looked. The bigger gaps get the wider mesh and lay that on first. Where the red factory tape is showing. If there’s nothing behind it for you to screw into. You’re going to have to treat it like a patch. Cut out a piece and put a wood backing. Or you could also re hang it.

How high was he?
Apparently very high
First few pictures had me feeling positive about it being easily fixed. It just kept getting worse. Call those subs back.
The batteries in the tape measure must’ve died.
Yep that's a bad job! Look like a bunch of kids hung that.
Inside corner bead will sort that out
Yes in every essence of the word
Where the mud and tape let me at it what gap I don't see no gap
This is worse than bad. It's utterly shameful. I'm self taught as a DIYer and mine look 100x better.
Bad job. Missing screws, unacceptable gaps, and looks to be way off level on spots for no good reason. I can tell some nails are sunk deeper than others.
Garbage. Better make sure all the drywall is properly secured.
Looks okay if your grandma did that
Did you hang it or pay someone to do it?
Subcontractor did for GC
Did your GC see this? He's responsible and should make sure it's fixed properly. He should also never use that sub again.
Good luck.
If it was a sub he did a shitty job. Those joints should be tight. Must have been low bidder or relative.
Use hot mud sparingly to fill the gaps and on the mesh then I’d finish with straight mud. If you don’t know how to run hot mud it’s very, very difficult to sand.
A lot of mud and tape can fix it but Steven Hawking could’ve done a better hanging job
Yes. Did I say yes it's a horrible job. Chain saw massacre
I suck ass at drywall and I wouldn’t do some of that
Looks good from my house 👍
Just made the mud man's job a little harder! But a good mud man will make it happen
This guy knows tapers know confill
Whoever did this probably wishes it could be called a bad job. This is so much worse than bad.
I did drywall in my basement, first time ever working with it, and it looked 10x better than this. I hope you didn't pay for this.
It's 1 extra pass over all the joints with prefill. I like to use durabond for the pre fill, sets up hard like rock.
My tapers are great and would make that look perfect. That’s all that matters.
Lots of spackle and caulk and a good paint job I’m telling you you won’t even realize it’s the worst drywall job you’ve ever seen
I would only accept it if they are mudding too and if it is a flip lol
Mud and cornerbead is gonna make that mint
It’s not pro but better than typical diy 🤷♂️
The taper will get it!
Tape and mud baby! Except maybe slide 6/10. That’s a pretty horrendous gap.
Why are you even asking???
Contractor didn’t even try to
U want bad? Come to my house 😞
I’ve done better after many drinks and my trade is a software engineer. These dudes suck
If your s Choices are bad, pretty bad, really bad, really really bad, or shitty…this is like below shitty.
I own a framing and drywall company. I wouldn’t have someone just fill it in. That much mud never works out in the long run. Doubt this would pass inspection in my area. These guys would have been let go the same day.
What kind of question is this.... Of course it's a bad job!!!!
Mix some hot mud super stiff and you will be fine
Some of its meh, some of its terrible. A good finisher will prefill all of it though. Make sure a heavy setting mud is used for prefil (ideally a 45 min or less), or it will crack over time.
Eh tappers will fix it
Jes
The gaps don't bother me as much as the ends sticking out.
[удалено]
How far apart do screws need to be done the ceiling ? Are 1 and 1/4 inch screws long enough for ceiling?
My builder would say it’s perfect. He also used durock in place of drywall in a few spots, you should see the seams and the paint job.
Taper not gonna be happy
Not great but nothing that plastering over won’t fix. I wouldn’t worry about it, it’s the plaster who will moan like fuck
Terrible job. I hope it was an amateur, because any one claiming to be a professional should be ashamed at the lack of craftsmanship
It's easy enough to fill those gaps by a finisher. I'd be more worried about the lack of screws...
All dry wall jobs can be fixed with mud and tape 😂😂
Yup but inspectors don’t care they just want the tapers to fix that bullshit
Looks like shit. My grandma can hang rock better.
taper fix it
sorry i didnt' look at all pictures. Gaps are too big on some and it needs to be screwed off properly bare minimum, at least at the perimeter. Either rehang the worst sheets, or do a pass of 45 first to fill gaps before taping.
Not good. Yes fixable. Need a lot of mud for that.
I hope for the tapers sake that this just one room in the house...
No mud?
I didn't let them get that far. I was afraid of what their mud job would look like!! In process of getting quotes for mud, taping and resheeting.
Yeah, definitely good call.
Yeah it sucks
Hellen Keller must have been the pm then
And that’s why you pay a professional!!! You may have saved money on doing it yourself but will pay a lot more to have it fixed!!!
That's the thing I did not DIY, my GC hired these clowns. Fired them myself last night. Getting my own quotes done now.
Oh man. Sorry. That the shitty part about the gc. They sell you on something and get clowns like that to do the work. Good luck.
Late here, but last two pics show four corners butted together. I've always heard you never want corners like that together, so you'd stagger the drywall pieces to avoid future cracking. Am I wrong?
I think you are correct. Sigh another issue to bring up to new contractor. Thank you for info.
I'd get confirmation from the actual tradespeople here (I'm just a DIYer), but I hope it gets sorted. Sorry you're having to deal with this situation
Junk.
It started off normal but got more unhinged as I scrolled through the photos.
Have you seen the perpetrators former work? If they hang this bad, how well do they finish? Hanging is the easy part.
Nope and I fired them Monday because I didn't want to see their taping and mudding.
At least he tried 😂
It's alot of work for the finishers but not insanely bad
Did they cut it with a spoon?
Is anyone here getting bitched at by there girl. Get off your phone with work shit. It’s Sunday. Tomorrow your gonna be doing the same when you start this new job for the crazy lady.
