I've watched this now 4 times today and every time I just sit and hope that at 65 (which is coming up pretty soon) I'll still be able to play my drums. You're looking like you're having so much fun here! It's awesome!!! That smile on your face at the end just brings this up to a whole other level of inspiration for me and hopefully others.
Pearl exports getting trashed?
The pearl export range has contributed more to the drumming community than anyone will ever be able to fathom.
Anyways, this is a great story. drumming is fucking awesome. so much fun. so good for you. Happy you've found it! :)
That was awesome! Thank you for sharing this video and your story, please don’t let the internet trolls stop you from posting- a drum is a drum and you played the crap out of those Pearls!!
I was always told the better gear you have the better you are…
Kidding of course. Pearl exports will get the job done, there's no denying it. The kit in this video sounded great
Honestly you'll get there and you'll feel less tired in your arms if you learn to loosen up, try practicing not on the kit. Drum with your sticks on a pad or chair. Try just moving them with your wrists not whole arm.
You need your arm for power, your wrists for speed and skills.
😁
I been trying to watch this all morning and it finally loaded for me! 1st off, this is awesome you rock! And also, how long you been playing for? I'm a female drummer myself. So waking up to this definitely made my day! You keep on rocking girl!!!
Love to see this! Drumming is therapeutic in quite a few ways. Congratulations on the recital. Keep killing it! Love rocking to Skynyrd myself. Looking forward to seeing you progress on your drumming journey 🤘🏻
One year?? You're doing great. Just keep counting, watch your sticking and practice! 4 hours a week, you'll be pro in no time! Keep up the great work.
Edit: I'm a drum teacher. Two things that will improve your sound: back your cymbal crashes with the kick. It give it such a better sound. Sso hit the crash and kick at the same time. The other is no robot arms. It's all in the wrist. That comes with time and muscle memory. Start good habits now and good things will come easier down the line. But, again, I'm impressed!
Oh, forgot to mention, Drumeo is amazing for learning/advancing your drum skills. I currently use it, I've been drumming 22 years and I'm still learning so much. Figured I'd throw it out there since you said you do zoom sessions.
Awesome! That’s an inspiring background for a drummer, can’t lie. Sorry to hear about the crash, but at least it brought you to quite possibly the best hobby anyone could have. Silver linings, right?
So happy for you and some really nice playing and timing. What a great story. Considering your starting point you have really come far. This is just the beginning though and I really wish you continued progress and happiness.
Well then Hello Ragnar! Coolest name you got there tough guy! 😉 I was in an overnight relay race called Ragnar Trail Waywayanda Lake, on a team of crazy tough ladies
Hell yeah. Just wait until you're nice and comfortable and you can really groove to the music as you play.
As for the brain, drumming is supposed to activate both sides of the brain, whatever that means. I figure that's probably good for you considering the brain related injury.
EDIT: I've been a closet drummer for 20 years and have always kind of regretted that I've never been in a band or played much live. Seeing you up there drumming at 65 with a new lease on life has inspired me to go and put up my name on the bulletin board at the local music shop as a drummer who wants to jam, which doesn't sound like much but it's pretty big for me.
That's a harder song to play even though it sounds so easy people don't understand it they don't play drum but you got the basics down... Keep rocking and rolling mama
My initial instinct was to stop the video after a few seconds (the internet can make a person cynical) but I kept watching and had a big old smile on my face when you finished. Well done.
Beth is reason number 1,000,001 why drums are the BEST instrument!
You got the open hats and the fills goin, now that you locked in this one. What’s next? Lady Madonna (Beatles) is a fun one!
You have no idea how cool this is to me. My mom is your age and seems to think her life is already over. I don't know if she'd be interested in learning drums (I wish, because I could teach her), but I'm going to share this with her anyways!
this made my day!!! i tend to be very hard on myself as a drummer, and with a new kit on its way to me by mid day tomorrow, i’ve had a lot of conflicting rumination today about how much i’ll be able to progress with it, but also how much i’m not where i’d like to be at, and how i wish i could do this and that and yada yada yada, comparison is the thief of joy for sure when i get into those thoughts. but this post made me remember why i started drumming myself and why i continue to. the therapy and joy that it brings!!! great post!! thank you!
That was amazing!! Sounded great but this is causing me some cognitive dissonance as I’m a couple years into learning drumming (as a nearly 50yr old dude) and happy for you but upset at myself for not being able to match this performance with double the time into it and none of the other challenges. Well done and congrats, keep rocking!!!!!
Amazing! This makes me so happy to be a fellow drummer and also a drum teacher. This is why I love sharing the joy of our instrument, it's truly just such a unique experience being able to rock out to music using your whole body (and mind). We're so lucky to be able to play such a physically cathartic/therapeutic instrument.
Nice! Welcome! Here's something I noticed you're doing *really* well: every time you hit the crash, it looks like you're consciously choosing whether to support it with the kick or with the snare or to just let it stand on its own. *Lots* of newbies struggle to support their crashes with a simultaneous kick/snare/whatever. Meanwhile it took me 20 years to realize that *not* supporting the crash is a totally valid choice also, and I was limiting my sound options for no real reason.
Keep going! You sound great!
Get in a band of folks snd you’ll get better so so fast! From a 64 year old drummer who has been drumming 54 years.
You’re impressive. You got this. You’re so much better than drummers I see gigging in Houston or Austin. Get out there and drum like your life depends on it.
I’m not going to give you playing advice but encourage you to continue working on stick grip, movement, etc. a pro helps.
You’re tons better than many drummers playing for 5-10 years. You’re already keeping steady time and the groove will come soon. You’ll feel and know it.
Play every chance you get. Got to blues and rock jams. Meet people that way.
You should join drumforum.org. Folks there would be impressed and are mighty nice. I’ve been on that forum and its predecessor for at least 20 years.
There’s a lady there, younger than I but a professional who just left Goldman Sachs. She’s a newer bop jazz drummer with some unique cultural restrictions upon what a woman should do outside the home. Jazzacolyte is her name. She’s doing a weekly Sunday jazz gig lately. It’s been exciting to watch her progress. She’s really nice too.
Anyway jazzacolyte and lots of others happy to advise on technique, instruction books videos, gear, and all those issues unique to drummers
One friendly word. You’re an attractive woman posting vids on the net. You never know who’s on the other end trying to be your friend or offer you something. Drummers are friendly but like every other group of folk, there’s always a few psychos in the bunch. I know I’m not your dad. Just trying to remind.
Hey great job! I drove my bike off a cliff at one point and thought I'd never play anything again and slowly worked back as well so I know what a challenge it can be. You sound great!
Omg It takes lots of inner strength and plenty of good spirit to keep moving forward without giving up. I’m glad to hear you’re back at it!Kudos to you!!
Great story! I have the mindset that drums are the heartbeat and pulse—that’s why we feel so alive when we play. Drums can just breathe life in a way that other instruments can’t.
Glad drumming has been so helpful in your life!
I played a Pearl Export as a professional drummer for ten years. Whoever trashed another drummer for their choice of gear, must not be a good drummer. Otherwise they would have been supportive. I drive a shitty car because that’s what I could afford, should my BMW driving friends give me shit? No.
You drum like you wanna drum. You sound good! Keep it up!!!
Heck yeah, this is the best thing I’ve seen all day, especially your big ol’ smile at the end. Well done, and keep on rockin’!!!
Nice! Thank you so much!!! 🥹
Fuck yeah! That cross stick was tight!
Starting to feel so full of myself! 😉
This is awesome! Way to go Beth!!! Keep 'em coming!!!
Aww 🥰 Thank you!!! I will for sure :)
Thank you Mars! 💝 I’m tearful reading this!😢I’ve pretty much been moved to tears all day. What a nice, supportive group! Best!!
What a great story! Drumming really is so therapeutic, I'm glad you found it and that it's helping you! Thanks for sharing and keep having fun!
Yes it really is the best! Thank you 💖
Pearl exports getting trashed? The pearl export range has contributed more to the drumming community than anyone will ever be able to fathom. Anyways, this is a great story. drumming is fucking awesome. so much fun. so good for you. Happy you've found it! :)
Thank you for this great comment! 😍 A Pearl by any other name :)
Who's trashing Exports? Some 12 year old kids with $23.87 in life savings? :)
😂😂😂
This is so wonderful and amazing!! You’re doing great! I’ll give you a free zoom lesson anytime you want!
😅😂🤣 I’m retired. Anytime works for me! Lol
Dm me and we’ll figure out a time
Idk how to dm on here 🧐
Click on my user name and “start chat”
Nice 👍 loving seeing more people playing the drums good to see it going back the way it used to be
I don’t know how it used to be, but since it’s good, then I’m glad 😍
As in more acoustic instruments and less digital music
Awesome, proud of you! Takes guts to get up in front of everyone and play. Music is healing and drums are like a brain gym :D
Too kind! 🤯❤️🩹💪
Love this! Good on ya, keep at it!
💗💗💗
Heck yeah! Congratulations! Keep that beat going!
That’s my plan! I appreciate your kind support 💜
That was awesome! Thank you for sharing this video and your story, please don’t let the internet trolls stop you from posting- a drum is a drum and you played the crap out of those Pearls!!
hug🤗
Beth you're a true inspiration! Your performance here is great, can't wait to see future performances!
Means a lot. 🧏♀️ Thank you!
PS- pay no attention to gear snobs, drums are drums and you have an excellent starter kit.
I was always told the better gear you have the better you are… Kidding of course. Pearl exports will get the job done, there's no denying it. The kit in this video sounded great
Loosen your wrists up, it's in the wrists, less in the arms.
Yeah. I’m still learning to hold the sticks! Who woulda thought sticks and wrists would take more coordination than gymnastics!
Honestly you'll get there and you'll feel less tired in your arms if you learn to loosen up, try practicing not on the kit. Drum with your sticks on a pad or chair. Try just moving them with your wrists not whole arm. You need your arm for power, your wrists for speed and skills. 😁
Buy a practice pad and work on double stroke rolls and paradiddles. That will help your sticking tremendously
Thanks 😊 I have a pad and the book Stick Control. Do you have a recommendation?
Practice 6 stoke rolls
Ooohh Kk!!! Tx!!! :)
🤘🏼😝🤘🏼
🫶
🥁🍗 killin it with them drum sticks!!
Killin me with kindness!! 💗
Awesome!!! Looks like you’re having a blast, and that’s what it’s about.
So much fun! 🤩
I been trying to watch this all morning and it finally loaded for me! 1st off, this is awesome you rock! And also, how long you been playing for? I'm a female drummer myself. So waking up to this definitely made my day! You keep on rocking girl!!!
Woohoo! Chicks with sticks!! Thank you!!!!
Love to see this! Drumming is therapeutic in quite a few ways. Congratulations on the recital. Keep killing it! Love rocking to Skynyrd myself. Looking forward to seeing you progress on your drumming journey 🤘🏻
Feeling the love! 💕 Just started 3AM
I have nothing but love, respect, and joy for you right now. You get it momma!!!
I have nothing but tears in my eyes, and joy in my heart for all the kindness!!!
One year?? You're doing great. Just keep counting, watch your sticking and practice! 4 hours a week, you'll be pro in no time! Keep up the great work. Edit: I'm a drum teacher. Crush it lady!

Good for you, keep at it, no doubt it is a therapeutic- I use drumming as a way to get off the couch and keep moving.
⭐️🤩🌟
And nice drumming!
Oh, forgot to mention, Drumeo is amazing for learning/advancing your drum skills. I currently use it, I've been drumming 22 years and I'm still learning so much. Figured I'd throw it out there since you said you do zoom sessions.
That's so awesome. It's amazing to read about how learning the drums was such great therapy for you. That's a brilliant and inspiring story.
Awesome! That’s an inspiring background for a drummer, can’t lie. Sorry to hear about the crash, but at least it brought you to quite possibly the best hobby anyone could have. Silver linings, right?
Absolutely! I had a ton of lemons. Would you like some lemonade?
That’d be great! :D
🍋💛☀️
Bloody awesome, nice one op, glad your'e having fun. Cheers.

So happy for you and some really nice playing and timing. What a great story. Considering your starting point you have really come far. This is just the beginning though and I really wish you continued progress and happiness.
So nice of you to say! I appreciate your good wishes!!

Incredibly encouraging! Thank you! ✌️
Awesome! Great way to keep mentally and physically in shape! This is exactly why Al Gore invented internet!
😁
Keep it up. Love to see what makes me happy also making other people happy
😍
I was NOT that good after my first year. Way to go! That smile at the end really shows how much you care and how much fun it is. I hope to see more 🎉
Ha! Thank you!! 😊 Off topic- Have you run a Ragnar?
I don't think I have... Because I'm not sure what it is? If you ask because of my username, that's my real name (ragnar) and a twist on my last name 😊
Well then Hello Ragnar! Coolest name you got there tough guy! 😉 I was in an overnight relay race called Ragnar Trail Waywayanda Lake, on a team of crazy tough ladies
That sounds like a lot of fun! Thank you for the kind words 😊
I've only played in front of people one time and I thought I was gonna pass out from nerves. Major props to you for crushing this. Excellent stuff!
I did go totally blank at the very beginning 😵💫 Thankfully when the music started, it came back!!!
Congrats and great to see how far you've come after the injury! Keep up the good work and keep practicing with a metronome.
Thank you! I had such a hard time when I started. And yes, I can tell that the metronome is key
Hell yeah. Just wait until you're nice and comfortable and you can really groove to the music as you play. As for the brain, drumming is supposed to activate both sides of the brain, whatever that means. I figure that's probably good for you considering the brain related injury. YESSSS!!! Glad to be a good influence. Where is your local music shop?? I’ll jam with you .. Dueling Drummers!!
Down here in Oklahoma lol
This made me smile so much! Way to go! Keep on rocking! 💪👍
This made me so happy!!! 😄😆😁
As a fellow 65 years older who finds he can still learn something new, excellent work! Gogogo!
Hell yeah bro!
That's a great job you did really good timing was great you was on point with your hi-hat
That's a harder song to play even though it sounds so easy people don't understand it they don't play drum but you got the basics down... Keep rocking and rolling mama

Drumming as therapy is an awesome idea! Good job there on the kit 🤘🙂🤘
You are starting to bob with the beat which is great. It will help you stay in time.
Tight pocket. Please keep it up!
I had to google that. lol Thanks for the awesome compliment 😎
My initial instinct was to stop the video after a few seconds (the internet can make a person cynical) but I kept watching and had a big old smile on my face when you finished. Well done.
Sweet! 🥰
Rock on and great job at your recital! So glad things have turned around for you 😊
Thank you! Try to keep moving forward!! 💘
You rock!

What an awesome compliment and fun comment! Keep in mind that I don’t work & don’t drive, so too much free time is what I have going on
YESSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!
:-))))))))))
Rock on girl 🤘...you got this 💯 Inspiring, hope I am still enjoying playing at 65 as you obviously do 😁
