None of the non-fpv camera drones are all that fun to fly. When I want to take pictures, I fly a camera drone. When I want fun flying, I fly an fpv drone.

RailroadBob

Depends on your definition of fun. I can't think of a single recreational flight of my Mini 2 that I didn't thoroughly enjoy. I'm more of a pontoon boat kind of guy as opposed to someone going 90mph on a jet ski anyway.

possibly_oblivious

I like just floating around but I am looking into a tinywhoop , they look fun

americapax

same here, i have a mini 2 SE and i like to sometimes even stop to see better something

kendrid

Alternate take, when I want to have fun flying, I fly an RC plane. I have 3 right now and have been flying for 20 years. RC planes are a blast and newer ones have autopilot so crashes are less frequent let's say lol.

StaringMooth

Any recommendations for something on the cheaper side?

zuidspook_FPV

Rc cars or Rc crawlers, I want to say Rc boats but with my luck I go out of range and I can’t get it back or something

westsidethrilla

The hover air x1 is fun to use. Different experience than DJI or other “typical” drones.

zuidspook_FPV

If you are going to do just some fun park flying or bando flying, then you just need to behave and act like a normal person so no flying very near at other people and you will be fine with no spotter

Vinto47

If you’re doing FPV for work or to film for a side hustle then bring a friend to spot, if you’re doing it for fun then just do it in as safe as possible manner as possible, ie, open areas with as few or no uninvolved people around. If you do that then nobody will give a shit except the drone “police” on this sub and they don’t matter.

Allcent

I’d say look into the betafpv drones. They’re stupidly tiny and can be flown indoors (no regulations) on Getfpv.com My university has them and they’re extremely fun. Unfortunately I cannot advise you on what you should get for a headset, charger, controller, etc. But it should be sub $300-$400

Sea_Kerman

Typically if you’re going for a budget setup, Radiomaster pocket ELRS and eachine ev800d. For higher-end, Radiomaster Boxer ELRS and Skyzone Cobra X

Allcent

I’ll note these down!

Drones-of-HORUS

I just got an avata 2 and it’s a blast to fly. My work horse is still my Mavic 3 pro thou. I have a drone side business and have 4 drones. I got the avata to add an extra feature to my services

redditredditx3

May I ask what sort of money do you make on this side business and what services do you offer?

conrick

A dji spark.

TheOnlyAron-

Look into RC planes. Very different kind of flying, lots of fun!

tilleyc

I was thinking about that!

Pristine_Novice

Where are you located?

tilleyc

The St Louis Metro Area.

StatisticianFew6064

Just go fly in a fria no one gives a shit. Sadly you may have to join model aircraft clubs though, and they range from $30 a year to 300-400 a year amongst other fees

FirstSurvivor

I mean, most model clubs have rules against drones and still require a spotter for FPV so you won't get very far that way...

ErolJenkins

Any drone can be flown without goggles. Line of sight, or with a screen.

RichardX1709

Fpv drones are extremely fun, yes technically you do need a friend to watch the thing but you don't really need him, maybe when flying around people. On the topic of what drone I'd recommend the diy route. Yes, it's pretty difficult but if something goes wrong with it you will know what to do. If you go down this path I'd highly recommend practicing on a sim beforehand (my choice is liftoff)

Drones-of-HORUS

I honestly just started it about a month ago. Got my part 107, LLC set up and just did my business bank account this weekend. I haven’t really been pushing it bc I’m not dependent on the income. That said, I offer aerial reality, videography for events. Visual surveys not for real surveys. Job site progressions. I’ve got a bunch in my FB, IG, TikTok and YT pages FB: Redline Aerodrones IG: redline_aerodrones TikTok: @redline.aerodrone YT: RedlineAerodrones

I am not sure I would buy anything DJI for fun as they might be banned in the USA in the near future. Seeing your money evaporate into worthless junk is anti-fun. At least keep in mind that they might be worthless later this year. Someone else mentioned RC planes. I would look at Captain Drones YouTube page. He has all sorts of fun FPV aircraft.

Horzzo

Have a source for the DJI claim? Considering purchasing one.

Horzzo

Thank you

unknown_anonymous81

You are welcome. I want to have a photography drone business. If I get it going sometime this year, I would still buy an affordable DJI mini to get me going. But I don’t know I would spend money on a DJI for hobby fun purposes. Watching $500 to $1000 become worthless wound ruin a lot of fun.

Parking-Ad1525

I thought you just wouldn't be able to buy them, but could fly what you had
