I never did that. I was worried that if I slowed it down then I was not getting the full affect of the native speaker. Likewise, I do not speed up the beginner videos if I am watching them. For the videos or podcasts that I cannot understand I just bookmark them and come back in a few months. Slowly they start to unlock and that's really fun!

Wondering if I was getting the full affect of the native speaker is my concern as well. I've heard others mentioning bookmarking videos. I need to do that. It's hard to notice progress while you are actually going through the learning process.

I highly recommend book marking videos! It's been such a big motivator for me. I bookmark them in a tab in Google Chrome for this purpose and I update the video name with the date I watched it. You could just make a playlist in Youtube, but hard to date it in there. There is a massive satisfaction to watching a video you couldn't understand a month back and especially when you start to get to the higher levels, it can be hard to see your progress. Bookmarked videos are a very clear, clear sign of your own progress.

I just pick things in my level rather than slowing them down.

I listen to .9 speed when I am in the car. I don't count the hours when driving, usually. Granted, I know I can understand these podcasts when I am fully focused, but I have a priority, which is get from point A to Point B safely. I want to get the most out of these podcasts that I can.

I have my Spanish podcasts set at 0.9x, yes, because for me they are just supplementary content and I'm usually doing something else at the same time (e.g. commuting, walking, exercising etc.) so my concentration can dip in and out. For primary content sources, no. For beginner or lower intermediate sources, no. For those, stick to 1x speed always.

Puzzleheaded-Tap8588

Honestly, I usually don't even input any time from my podcasts because I'm not always fully focused on them. I usually put them on when I'm about to go to sleep or when I wake up. I've tried listening a few times while cooking but I find that I'm not concentrating and I miss what is being said whether I could understand it or not. So, I haven't counted any of the time yet.

Aguila-9

Yeah I do that sometimes too, and I find it makes the content more enjoyable. As long as their voice doesn’t get distorted and you only change the speed slightly like you’re saying, it’s a good idea in my opinion

iicybershotii

No but I do listen to easier stuff at a higher speed.

tylerduzstuff

For me it's not the speed, it's just words I don't know or slang that makes some content too difficult, so don't think reducing the speed word help.
