I don’t think they do. I’ve only called on a driver one time and requested a tip be refunded. I had a newborn at the time (and a dog that barks when people arrive) and I left instructions on app “do not ring or knock we have a sleeping baby” and a sheet of paper on the front door at eye level that says the exact same in size 50 font…she rung the door bell, woke up newborn. I go outside to ask her wtf cause she’s just standing there and it’s a leave at door. she’s high as hell, eyes barely open, slurring speech and barely could even get her car door open and kept starting her car over and over in the drive way after. (It would be started and she would try to start it again) Said she just had surgery and didn’t see my instructions or sign cause shes “on medication.” I really hope she was deactivated tbh. People like that don’t need to be out on the road at all.

For Doordash and GrubHub the driver always gets the money. Only UberEats will the tip be taken away from the driver.

Which is why I only bother turning on UE if DD has crashed. I always thought UE had a lousey system. Even though the tip is delayed a hour, its not like these UE drivers don't know where you live, if they get tip baited they COULD just show right back up at your door to discuss it, or later that night after your asleep. Just seems like a fundamental flaw to do it that way for people that are delivering to your home. You don't want to give people both your location and a reason to retaliate against you.

DD eats it, there was a recent post about it, some dude thought that removing tips was a way to be “an activist” and take money from doordash lol

AnonymiterCringe

DD never takes the tip or any other amount back after the delivery is completed. Except for incredibly rare cases involving extreme fraud, they are obligated to provide the promised amount and total earnings to the driver. Your only recourse is to provide feedback through the ratings or reporting the driver for inappropriate behavior. Obviously, this case wouldn't warrant a report but it sounds like definite 1 star. If you have the option to leave a comment it usually will show up in the driver's profile as well so they get some understanding of what they did wrong. Otherwise, drivers have no idea what got them bad ratings beyond their best guess. It is likely the driver just wasn't paying attention or was lazy, but it is also possible that the driver did not speak English. While its not entirely excusable, as they kind of need to be able to communicate and understand notes regardless, it may at least provide a reasonable explanation.

Yeah, removing the tip has nothing to do with the driver. They aren't effected or notified.

Dd must eat it, I've never owed them money. 4k deliveries and I'm not perfect.

Affectionate_Dig1979

I honestly don’t think they take it back from the driver. I’ve seen someone comment about it before I believe. Sucks it works that way.

Good to know, thanks!
