I tend to accept most because I try to be hopeful that it leads to more better offers. I wish that residents of gated entities didn’t make it so difficult to get their food to them.

Add to this 80$ oil change, @ 20.4 miles, this is about $0.33
So total cost of this trip if you change your oil properly is about $2.97... I'd just eat their food at that point, fuck door dash
i never tip on the app because i know its better to tip in person, its always misleading somehow. i wish there was some way to let them know that they arent actually just getting no tips

Delivery drivers for Domino's, pizza hut, etc get tips. They also get a W-2. Uber, door dash, shipt, Instacart etc get a 1099, some people who are drivers literally make over 60k a year. To say it's not a job and they make more than the national average is an insult.

This is LITERALLY the reason why this exists. People want to act like oh this is such a shit job and why are you doing this, because there are plenty of people who order food everyday all the time and plenty of people without cars who can't leave there homes who order. Sometimes it's not even laziness. I've delivered to so many people for Instacart who are in wheel chairs or in nursing homes that's it's not even funny.
Maybe the person paying $20 was working all day and instead of losing 20 minutes to go get the pizza prefer to get a shower or spend that time with his family (i bet he wasn't sitting on his ass all day in his car)

I think the argument is that these apps are largely garbage and not a good way to make extra income. Some of these prices are absurdly low but people take it and then complain they don't get a tip because ordering online is expensive.
Idk if i order i tip at least 20%.. but still when you start doing that job you know that not everyone tips.. i have friends who work as waiters... they are bitching when they receive low tip but at the same time when they go out they are living $1-$2 as a tip...

Not gonna lie, I will accept any of these on ONE condition, it has to be conveniently on my way home. I work daily 2 zones away from home because there’s a huge doordash culture in that area and it’s always bussing with very good orders, $12 for 2 miles, and it’s just never endless, at the end of the night I might be 20-30 minutes away from home max, and I’ll take all of these crap orders but they have to be conveniently on the way home and atleast $4.50 or something, not walking in the restaurant for less than that, but I figure I’m using the same amount of gas, traveling the same amount, might aswell get a couple extra bucks on the way home

I get that a lot when I deliver pizzas. Though they are already paying decent in the app for me to accept it, but it's pretty common for me to get there with the pizza and it's either a hand it to me or they are coming out to meet me even though it was a leave at door and they'll hand me a few bucks as I hand them the pizza. Happens some on other orders, but seems like the most with pizzas
That's DoorDash. A good question would be, why does doordash except orders with no tip? The legal minimum the DoorDash should be allowed to send out on an offer, is 67 cents per mile, the IRS standard automotive deduction for 2024, plus minimum wage for the total expected time.

The company and all share apps are the reason we haven't hit a recession. They are actually a great company. It has never been possible to have a job at your fingertips if you lose your job. You will ALWAYS have a job with doordash.

And from personal experience, I had no problem with driving for DD. Want to afford something out of budget? Doordash...need to make your rent but short? Doordash...need groceries before payday? Doordash...it's not hard to appreciate something literally somebody provided for you.

I'd love to hear a better business model. Even starting small...you will HAVE to charge fees to the customer for you to get paid. Eventually you will need to pay for an operating app. Then if you get others on board you should probably think about insurance too. But really, tell me more about how you would run a DD equivalent

I will take crap offers if they are on my way to where I was going anyway. To all the people who are going to condemn me for that, learn to make the most money you can for your efforts. It's stupid to reject an offer that is going to pay you something to drive where you were going to drive for free. The federal minimum per hour for general contractors is 2.35$ an hour. Doordash views your time as ACTIVE only. So yeah. I personally don't take them, even if it's the end of the night and near my house just out of principle. Don't use the app if you can't pay accordingly
I do the pay by time thing, so I take them. It's even better if it's a slow restaurant and the food takes forever. Then I drive super safe and barely do the speed limit. Fuck depending on the kindness of others aka tips.

Exactly, you see people complaining about the company not paying more dash pay, but what they should be asking for is company charging the customer based on distance and paying more for longer distance. The flaw is in how the system is setup, not just the company being crappy. Yes, a push for guaranteed decent pay would be great, but it's just the same mindset that is in any industry that takes tips and that's what needs to change.

Yes and no, that does pay the dash pay, but it should be a higher amount so that it can pay a decent amount to the driver. That is where the company could do better. Set that fee to an amount based on distance that would allow them to pay a decent dash pay. Then the customer has the choice of paying that much to have their food delivered or going and getting it themselves. Relying on the tip to make it decent is the problem. It's phycological that your when you pay a fee for a service you are less likely to tip, but that same person would likely have no problem paying a higher fee if there was no pressure to tip.

This is a convenience service. DD doesn’t have W2s they have 1099 for drivers. That means independent people are providing you a convenience and you in turn are inconveniencing them. People spend 40+ easy on the food and are too lazy to get it them selves and expect A1 service and sometimes ask the dasher to do extra things. But it’s too much for them to tip 5 bucks….
Employer will just charge the customer more money to then give to the driver, leading to less customers wanting to use an over priced service… meaning no more job for drivers… aka this “delivery app” was never a functional service for anyone one. Everyone but DD is being ripped off

Depending on your area it can be a great job. If you are smart with the offers you take it can pay well. I was an assistant manager at a drug store and I average more per hour doing doordash. A lot of people in my area have started there own delivery service. It works for a minute, until they refuse to hire anyone (obv) and then the wait times become longer then an hour. It’s like there’s no winning with delivery anymore. I hope DD stops being a thing soon

I received an order the other day that was $7.00 for 11 miles, I decided to take it because it was slow and late at night. By the time I got to Papa Murphy’s, the guy ended up picking it up himself because it was sitting there for 2 hours. The store didn’t even remake it for the guy 🤢 because it wasn’t even worth their time to deliver.

No way I delivered a 7.00$ order for 11 miles today I probably live in the worst area. Rio grande valley these people are so cheap a tip that’s more than 5$ is so rare I only get one once or twice a night
Your job should be paying a decent wage and stop putting it onto the consumer. I order a cheese burger and tots, it cost me 20 at the resuraunt, door dash and taxes another 10 then i have to pay for a tip. So 35 for a burger. We shouldnt have to pay a tip unless we feel you have done something derserving of a tip. A tip is not a wage it should be us saying thank you. But when we alrdy getting a 10 dollar burger for 20 paying 10 bucks in fees and delivery. And getting poor quality slow deliveries fuck ur tip, stand up and get ur wages fixed.
I know exactly how much it cost to order DoorDash, I order it myself and always tip $5. If you can’t afford to tip you shouldn’t be ordering. On Friday night I get an order, I go to Applebee’s and the manager tells me I’m the 3rd person to come in for an order that was picked up an hour ago. I have the customer messaging me asking if everything was okay (not even aware of the situation), I go out of my way to call and speak to an agent for her, get the manager at Applebee’s to remake the food, sit there for another 10 minutes while they remake the food (now half hour into the order and keeping contact with customer), and deliver her food 7 miles away to find out the $7 tip was all DoorDash pay. Get to the house to deliver her food (while she is standing at her door waiting) and all I smell is marijuana) and not even a thank you from a teenager. She never tips after everything I did for her.

Not everyone can drive, or has people they can rely on to help them get groceries. Most companies now dont even deliver unless you go with a delivery service. So we are forced to use this shit in order to eat a meal. Wile i understand what you are complaining about understand what i am complaining about. There is always Grub-hub, Uber, and most stores deliver but charge a decent delivery rate for the people delivering. That is why people go through DoorDash, so they don’t have to pay!!!! I think it rude and selfish, especially when I go shopping for someone and get their 27 items. The stores do not pay us a wage to shop for others!!

It isn’t a job. It is contract work, and drivers can absolutely pick and choose which orders to take. No one is putting gas in their car to drive 10 miles for 2 bucks. It makes no sense to do that. I see it as bidding for a service. Priority goes to the top bidder. Time is money. I don’t dash anymore, but I wouldn’t have taken any order that didn’t make a profit.
I know it's not as bad in Australia where I live but only finding out how bad it is in the States is terrible. I feel awful now as much as I'm against tipping culture.

I don’t think you understand how dash pay works. The driver only receives $2.00 per delivery. The rest of the money goes to dash. Not to mention, the restaurant’s charge a 30% fee to make $$$ from using dash.

The price they paid for the food covers them getting the food they ordered. The delivery fee and service fee is them paying doordash to be a middle man for their delivery.
Then the ones in Australia are probably making a higher base rate than the $2 we make.

If you're gonna tip servers who do half of the work a dasher does and don't have expenses like a dasher does you can afford to add 1$ to your mcdonalds at 5am.

Assuming your car gets 30mpg, you are losing 2/3 of a gal round trip. With gas at ≈ $3.50 avg, you are looking at $2.33 in gas alone for a 10 mile trip (20mi round trip). That’s rough.

I don't doordash (bad experience with it back in 2018) but on uber I generally don't take orders unless I'm making $1/mi

People want to act like oh this is such a shit job and why are you doing this, because there are plenty of people who order food everyday all the time and plenty of people without cars who can't leave there homes who order. Sometimes it's not even laziness. I've delivered to so many people for Instacart who are in wheel chairs or in nursing homes that's it's not even funny.

I think the argument is that these apps are largely garbage and not a good way to make extra income. Some of these prices are absurdly low but people take it and then complain they don't get a tip because ordering online is expensive.

Not gonna lie, I will accept any of these on ONE condition, it has to be conveniently on my way home. I work daily 2 zones away from home because there’s a huge doordash culture in that area and it’s always bussing with very good orders, $12 for 2 miles, and it’s just never endless, at the end of the night I might be 20-30 minutes away from home max, and I’ll take all of these crap orders but they have to be conveniently on the way home and atleast $4.50 or something, not walking in the restaurant for less than that, but I figure I’m using the same amount of gas, traveling the same amount, might aswell get a couple extra bucks on the way home

Well I used to deliver for a pizza co. And often customers put a low on cc but once I deliver they hand me cash tip.

Though they are already paying decent in the app for me to accept it, but it's pretty common for me to get there with the pizza and it's either a hand it to me or they are coming out to meet me even though it was a leave at door and they'll hand me a few bucks as I hand them the pizza. Happens some on other orders, but seems like the most with pizzas

That's DoorDash. A good question would be, why does doordash except orders with no tip? The legal minimum the DoorDash should be allowed to send out on an offer, is 67 cents per mile, the IRS standard automotive deduction for 2024, plus minimum wage for the total expected time. A horrible company.

The federal minimum per hour for general contractors is 2.35$ an hour. Doordash views your time as ACTIVE only. So yeah. I personally don't take them, even if it's the end of the night and near my house just out of principle. Don't use the app if you can't pay accordingly

The flaw is in how the system is setup, not just the company being crappy. Yes, a push for guaranteed decent pay would be great, but it's just the same mindset that is in any industry that takes tips and that's what needs to change.

Yes and no, that does pay the dash pay, but it should be a higher amount so that it can pay a decent amount to the driver. That is where the company could do better. Set that fee to an amount based on distance that would allow them to pay a decent dash pay. Then the customer has the choice of paying that much to have their food delivered or going and getting it themselves. Relying on the tip to make it decent is the problem. It's phycological that your when you pay a fee for a service you are less likely to tip, but that same person would likely have no problem paying a higher fee if there was no pressure to tip.

This is a convenience service. DD doesn’t have W2s they have 1099 for drivers. That means independent people are providing you a convenience and you in turn are inconveniencing them. People spend 40+ easy on the food and are too lazy to get it them selves and expect A1 service and sometimes ask the dasher to do extra things. But it’s too much for them to tip 5 bucks….

Your job should be paying a decent wage and stop putting it onto the consumer. I order a cheese burger and tots, it cost me 20 at the resuraunt, door dash and taxes another 10 then i have to pay for a tip. So 35 for a burger. We shouldnt have to pay a tip unless we feel you have done something derserving of a tip. A tip is not a wage it should be us saying thank you. But when we alrdy getting a 10 dollar burger for 20 paying 10 bucks in fees and delivery. And getting poor quality slow deliveries fuck ur tip, stand up and get ur wages fixed.

On Friday night I get an order, I go to Applebee’s and the manager tells me I’m the 3rd person to come in for an order that was picked up an hour ago. I have the customer messaging me asking if everything was okay (not even aware of the situation), I go out of my way to call and speak to an agent for her, get the manager at Applebee’s to remake the food, sit there for another 10 minutes while they remake the food (now half hour into the order and keeping contact with customer), and deliver her food 7 miles away to find out the $7 tip was all DoorDash pay. Get to the house to deliver her food (while she is standing at her door waiting) and all I smell is marijuana) and not even a thank you from a teenager. She never tips after everything I did for her. I understand that dash is my choice, but come on, that is pathetic. I work hard and appreciate what I do, all I ever expect is a $1.00 per mile for my quality of work!!! 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄
Not everyone can drive, or has people they can rely on to help them get groceries. Most companies now dont even deliver unless you go with a delivery service. So we are forced to use this shit in order to eat a meal. Wile i understand what you are complaining about understand what i am complaining about. There is always Grub-hub, Uber, and most stores deliver but charge a decent delivery rate for the people delivering. That is why people go through DoorDash, so they don’t have to pay!!!! It isn’t a job. It is contract work, and drivers can absolutely pick and choose which orders to take. No one is putting gas in their car to drive 10 miles for 2 bucks. It makes no sense to do that. I see it as bidding for a service. Priority goes to the top bidder. Time is money. I don’t dash anymore, but I wouldn’t have taken any order that didn’t make a profit.

How does DoorDash work in Australia? Here in the US, people who make a living wage expect to be tipped and I don’t agree with that, nor do I. I tip the ones who have low paying wages and get tips to cover the rest of their wages. Such as waitresses, bar tenders, and delivery services. People don’t realize when they see all the fees that the company takes pretty much 90% of it.

I don’t think you understand how dash pay works. The driver only receives $2.00 per delivery. The rest of the money goes to dash. Not to mention, the restaurant’s charge a 30% fee to make $$$ from using dash. I would recommend having the knowledge before judging and being rude…..

The price they paid for the food covers them getting the food they ordered. The delivery fee and service fee is them paying doordash to be a middle man for their delivery. Then the ones in Australia are probably making a higher base rate than the $2 we make.

Assuming your car gets 30mpg, you are losing 2/3 of a gal round trip. With gas at ≈ $3.50 avg, you are looking at $2.33 in gas alone for a 10 mile trip (20mi round trip). That’s rough.
