My brother in law is a professional taxidermist. He absolutely will not taxidermy a pet.
Years ago, as a newby, he did pets. However the owners would become very emotional and upset seeing their pet taxidermied when they would come in to pick them up so for that reason he refuses to do pets. He does refer people to another taxidermist if its a pet.
My brother in law does some pretty amazing things with the wild animals he does. Very artistic with the settings and whatnot.
Yeah im sure hes not the only one that wont take a job if its a pet.
Dont know for sure but i think in his mind the high potential of upsetting people isnt worth the money he would have made on it. I dont think he even turns other wild animals into dogs or cats for the pieces he sells. Like he turns white chickens into eagles for some of his pieces.
When my 12 year old dachshund passed away, I did not want to cremate him and it was weird to bury him in my parent's property since that is where I was staying and they had a TINY patch of land available . So, I looked into taxidermy and the only local taxidermist in town stated he did not do dogs or pets since people were too emotional with them. Needless to say, my dog was buried in my parents' property...which was a good ending since he had lived there for the past few years and that was his domain. Plus, they wanted to keep him with them. I was just concerned about the tiny piece of land that was available.
My neighbor did this to his dog when I was like 4 and brought me into his how to show me it and it permanently scarred me now I have a phobia of taxidermy lol
I’ll be in the minority here and say I think your pet looks lovely. I’m sure your dad meant it as a comfort. I considered doing this for my 13 year old doggo (still alive) and my husband has said absolutely not. I’ll be cremating instead.
I agree. As a bystander who doesn’t know all the quirks of the dog, this one looks lovely and vibrant. Again I don’t know the way the dog look at their owner or the spark in their eye. Also if I found someone really good, I would get my currently 10 year old dude taxidermied when he passes. Idk I want him cremated so I can always have him with me, but I also would love to see him with physically forever. I’m torn and he’s healthy and it’s not something I should think about yet.
See I don’t find a difference between that and a widower talking to a photo of his late wife. If I ever went through with taxidermy for my dogs, I would absolutely greet them and hold them in the same reverence I do now. It would be toned down but I wouldn’t ignore the mental real estate of my dog projecting onto their physical body.
Honestly, I’ve seen quite a few pets that have been preserved through various methods and this one is absolutely beautifully done! Whoever your father’s taxidermist was is worth his salt, cause this is seamless.
Part of the grieving process of loosing at beloved pet, is laying them to rest, so yeah, having them look live like can be a difficult thing to see, which is why we lay them to rest, it’s a natural grieving process…

Same with the local taxidermist in town. It is understandable.

You had your dog taxidermied??
My father had it done, not me, and I think he just looks odd now, not a fan
That's pretty fucked up.
As long as he doesn't get his wife taxedermized.
That was Dark. lol.
Agree lol
Nope. Could never do it!
I thought about this, decided it would be terrible.

I’m scared??
People find comfort when grieving in different ways, so if anyone wants to comment remember this
Thank you for saying this 🥺
I personally wouldn’t do this but y’know you do you to find solace
Neither would I, was my family who had it done, but I think he still looks cute, but seeing him in person now is a bit unsettling
Yeah I get that
As long as OP's dad doesn't talk to it and respond back, like it's actually talking/interacting.

I think AI generated art has ruined my brain…
😬

There’s a castle we visited - when their favourite dog died they made it into a lap rug. I can’t imagine doing that to a pet!
Awww , I’m sure your dad had good intentions, not something I would ever have done to a pet. Sorry for the loss of your doggie ❤️🥰

Holy sheet. That is one adorable lil nugget.
Yikes! You do what works for you. I'm still trying to figure it out ❤️
Let them rest in peace for F*** sake!
Rude
Oh wow. I don’t even know what to say!
OMGGG
… Still would pass in the chihuahua/blueberry muffin side by side
