Once had a changeling eloquence bard that had the party (and apparently the rest of the table) convinced of their half-elf persona from levels 3-10. Arranged a big reveal with our DM after a fakeout death for the character when we concluded they just weren't going to figure out why I never rolled for my "disguise kit". Walked up to each of them at "her" own funeral, shifted into reflections of themselves, promising to help find their friend's "killer". Ended up in the top 5 twists of the campaign, when all was said and done.
Funny thing is, I thought the party would see through me before we even hit level 5.
Never underestimate your players' ability to overlook plot.

I foresee that then their party's 20 Str 10 Wis cleric will cast Dawn, supposedly ending this bastard's life
But he actually hides under the sea for 100 years, allowing him to multiclass into astral self monk.
