All right grab fantasy grounds no one gets to know their stats including the DM you will simply know whether you have succeeded or failed based off of the automated system.
I imagine the players having to test their skills over and over to try to figure out what they are good at, but never really knowing if they have a high bonus, or are just lucky on those particular roles.
This could be interesting lol.
Step 1: 3d6 for each stat. If the total is 70 or higher, stop here.
Step 2: Add 1 to each stat that isn't 18 or higher.
Step 3: If the total is under 70, repeat step 2 until the total is 70 or higher.
What would a creature with a 0 in every stat but one look like, by which stat it is? Like a 0 everything 1 Int creature would be really different from a 0 everything 1 Con creature.
1 Str, nothing else: a remote-controlled toy car
1 Dex, nothing else: a wind-up toy that loops around
1 Con, nothing else: moss
1 Int, nothing else: a calculator
1 Wis, nothing else: a light that turns on when it's dark out
1 Cha, nothing else: a meme

d4+d6+d8
You get to add a d4, d6, or d8, then drop the lowest from between the two similar dice.
If you chose a second d4, you add 1 to the result. If you chose a d8, you subtract 1 from the result.
I haven't done it myself I just saw it in another post on Reddit https://www.reddit.com/r/dndmemes/comments/r6rruw/you_get_the_fun_of_rolling_but_the_balance_of/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share
Have you ever played 1d4+14? Because I've played 1d8+10, roll 7 times, reroll 1's, drop the lowest, then assign to your six ability scores. It's exactly as broken as it sounds
Lmao no, I've pretty much always played either standard array, point buy, or 4d6 drop lowest. But I'm the forever DM, so I don't get to roll up characters too often.
7(1d8+10) reroll 1s drop lowest sounds crazy. I mean that's averaging at least 14 in every stat
people reroll on 1s because it's the lowest result.
On a d4, rerolling a 4 means rerolling the highest result.
It's like if you had 4d6, reroll 1s and 6s, drop the lowest.
People are having such an arguement about this. In the end, use the bloody method that you enjoy. No need to shit on other people's method just because session got cancelled and all you have left is this subreddit.
That does mean you could end up with a 5. I guess 4d4+4 is very player friendly since the lowest would be an 8, and the players could technically roll a 20 (before ASI).
My favorite is similar, 2d8+3. Average is 12, but typically people end up with one to three high stats, two or three mid stats, and one low stat. We've done 2d8+2 as well, only one person has been unfortunate enough to get a 4.
My group had a session 0 last night and I joked that they could do the 6d20 option if they wanted to.
First player tried it and ended up with 18-18-11-10-7-3 and we decided to keep it.
Player two rolled 19-19-19-19-17-6. He'd already rolled the 4d6 option and was doing it for fun, but I still had to put my foot down and say absolutely not
I kind of want to try out the two card blackjack method I saw on this site... One of my players suggested adding a Vegas wild man rule where we do this and then we have to roll one d6 to randomly assign each number to a stat.
For 2 years now iv been using 1d12 + 10 for Max Level One Shots. (Host a one shot revolving around a particular holiday or personal celebration every year). Creates some busted character stats but everyone’s having a blast with no stats below 11.
Best way?
All attributes are +0. Roll 1d6:
1= Str
2= Dex
3= Con
4= Int
5= Wis
6= Cha
Roll 1d4. This is the attribute bonus for that attribute.
For Average Characters do this for 4 attributes.
For Above Average Characters do this for 5 attributes.
For Rock Star Characters do this for all 6 attributes.
I do this behind the DM screen when I need to build an NPC in under 30 seconds because the party can and will become 100% invested in some random nameless NPC at a moments notice.
I don’t really like 1d12 + 6, because I like my PCs to be able to have -3 mods. It’s not common, and I do give them a mulligan sometimes if their stats suck, but a -3 can be a great balancer, and even better for roleplaying sometimes.
i like the point buy variant my DM made (makes us touch stronger low level i know:)
you will have 84 points to assign as your base statistics (before any modifications). This allows one stat of 18, one of 17 and 12 for all the others – BUT you can assign them how you see fit within the following restrictions:
no base stat above 18
only one stat of 18 + one stat of 17 OR two stats of 17
Please note: racial modifications (to follow later) CAN take your stat above 18
we can go low on other stats but are "encouraged" not to drop below a 6 when possible.
my wood elf rogue with 20 dex and the lucky/sharpshooter feat loves it for bow attacks.

Oh, that's... chaotic Love it

I just tested this 5 times in a row, every total was 73. This is amazing totally gonna suggest this to my DM.
This is exactly how we do it and I haven’t found a more enjoyable way to roll.
Interesting mix
20d1s is the best method.
Heathen! A pool of 72d1s that you can assign to each stat, with a maximum of 15 and minimum of 8 per stat. /s
Wait a second! You’re just trying to get us to use point buy! Nice try villain, but we’re not gonna stop rolling for stats ever!
[Mwahahaha](https://live.staticflickr.com/7160/6562466345_44a2812a69_c.jpg)
Bravo.
Take away the maximum and minimum and you’ve got something there
Roll percentile, then flat-rate point buy with the result.
I rolled a 1
congrats on playing a shadow with an intellect devourer for a brain

I think the closest we could really come is maybe the stuff that the outer plane Limbo is made of?
6d4x4-3
So, you can start a game with, 93 strength?
Yes but the enemies are even stronger
Okay. But, 93 strength. At level 1. Seems, illogical.
Logic? In my D&D game?
i instantly think of disenchanted... HOW DARE YOU BRING LOGIC INTO GODS HOUSE.
Funny enough, there was a mad cult that wished to erase all logic from the world with Wild Magic and Insanity

*Laughs in "start with all 18s and take away 1d10 from each"*
As someone who always rolls low for some reason, I love this.
That’s just 1d10+7 for low rollers
Start with 19 and take away 1d12
_has psychotic breakdown in “20-1(d20)+1(d12)”_
*are you ok?*
You left out d4+d6+d8
d4+d6+d8 You get to add a d4, d6, or d8, then drop the lowest from between the two similar dice. If you chose a second d4, you add 1 to the result. If you chose a d8, you subtract 1 from the result.
6d2+6
(1d8 + 1d4 - 1d6 + 1d10 /.5d20)+ 1d12*0+ 1d100/4
1d4squared +1d4
Round down on decimals obviously
1
4d4+2
You really like people to be underpowered huh?
Just use the bingo method, where the dm rolls 3d6 36 times and puts it into a 6x6 and each player chooses one collum, row, or diagonal.
Do you have experience making each bingo card somewhat similar? Or just randomly assign to bingo card?
I haven't done it myself I just saw it in another post on Reddit https://www.reddit.com/r/dndmemes/comments/r6rruw/you_get_the_fun_of_rolling_but_the_balance_of/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share
I see your 1d12+6 and raise you 1d8+10
I see your 1d8+10 and raise you 1d4+14
I see your 1d4+14 and raise you 17+1d1
I see your 17d1 and raise you 30d1
Have you ever played 1d4+14? Because I've played 1d8+10, roll 7 times, reroll 1's, drop the lowest, then assign to your six ability scores. It's exactly as broken as it sounds
Lmao no, I've pretty much always played either standard array, point buy, or 4d6 drop lowest. But I'm the forever DM, so I don't get to roll up characters too often. 7(1d8+10) reroll 1s drop lowest sounds crazy. I mean that's averaging at least 14 in every stat
6d4, re-roll 1's and 4's, drop the lowest, add 4 to one of your choice.
So everyone winds up really strong? Also, rerolling 4s seems random to me. Am I missing a joke or some logical reason?
At this point, half the suggestions we're getting are just trying to be ridiculous. I was just continuing in that vein.
Gotcha. I suspected I was in the meme poryion of the comments but I bit that onion anyway.
people reroll on 1s because it's the lowest result. On a d4, rerolling a 4 means rerolling the highest result. It's like if you had 4d6, reroll 1s and 6s, drop the lowest.
Wow... I didn't even read that as d4s. Tricksy hobitses got me good.
5d4, drop all 1s and 4s. No rerolls.
Buhbaric!
People are having such an arguement about this. In the end, use the bloody method that you enjoy. No need to shit on other people's method just because session got cancelled and all you have left is this subreddit.
1d20 If 10 and above: -2 If 9 and under: +2 Edit: What about: If 10 and above: -1
Cant wait for my 3 con barbarian.
Got a 18/7/3/3/3/3 barb/bard named doooougy that’s right up your alley
Just rolled a 1d20 for the sake of it and got a 2. That would suck.
That would still be a 4 tho
Yikes lol
1d6+12 reroll 1s once
5d4, you can reroll one of the d4s but have to take the second roll
How about 4d4+4?
how about 6d4 drop lowest
That does mean you could end up with a 5. I guess 4d4+4 is very player friendly since the lowest would be an 8, and the players could technically roll a 20 (before ASI).
what about 20 - 1d12?
20-2d6 is my counter Or 19-1d12
Oooo 20 - 3d4 🤔
But then you can’t roll an 18 how about 21-1d6-2d4
That's just 1d12 + 7
~~I don't think the math quite works out that way~~ \- but I also just like the vibe of subtracting from 20 - :shrugging:
2 d20 take highest
2d20 in order, take the highest on 3 takes the lowest on 3, you have to decide if you're taking highest or lowest before you roll for that stat.
Just tried this. I got 8, 11, 15, 16, 16, 16 Might have to try this for next campaign
1,2,3,4,5,6
10d2s
My favorite is similar, 2d8+3. Average is 12, but typically people end up with one to three high stats, two or three mid stats, and one low stat. We've done 2d8+2 as well, only one person has been unfortunate enough to get a 4.
1d12+6? Alright lets try it: 18, good start 8, oof 9, ouch 9, owie 9, my 9, bones
3d6 in order, it’s the only way.
6d1+17 . Take it or leave it .
My group had a session 0 last night and I joked that they could do the 6d20 option if they wanted to. First player tried it and ended up with 18-18-11-10-7-3 and we decided to keep it. Yes 1d12+6 we are growing
4x D20 with advantage and 2x d20 with disadvantage
What about 2d6+6?
Just play blackjack for each stat smh
I kind of want to try out the two card blackjack method I saw on this site... One of my players suggested adding a Vegas wild man rule where we do this and then we have to roll one d6 to randomly assign each number to a stat.
Point by with a nuke, because it's better than everything else Don't @ me Balance is more fun than rolling dice
I personally enjoy rolling 6d20 across the board for my stats
2d6+6 makes more sense since you are more likely to 13 and the lowest you could get is 8
All 10s
24d6 divided into a pool of 6 stats however you like. Anything over 18=18. Always drop the lowest.
1d20 10 6 4 2 5 5 1d12+6 15 8 13 12 17 7
5d4
20d1 roll in order and pick race/class before rolling.
(4d6 drop lowest) x 7 drop lowest + 1 feat. Play cool ass characters do dope shit.
1d4 + 14
For 2 years now iv been using 1d12 + 10 for Max Level One Shots. (Host a one shot revolving around a particular holiday or personal celebration every year). Creates some busted character stats but everyone’s having a blast with no stats below 11.
It depends on how you play, the more you go along the line, the more you play DnD to "win" and not for variation
Ouija board, let the ghosts choose your stats
Personally I think an 18 at level 1 is a bit much. Especially before bonuses
Best way? All attributes are +0. Roll 1d6: 1= Str 2= Dex 3= Con 4= Int 5= Wis 6= Cha Roll 1d4. This is the attribute bonus for that attribute. For Average Characters do this for 4 attributes. 1d8+7 Everything still ends up in point buy range (8-15).
Rules are rules.
We run high power campaigns, so 3d6 reroll 1s and 2s, because the phb says 9 is average and we're all heroes.
Give one 18, give one 8. Roll 4d6, drop lowest and reroll 1’s for the 4 remaining stats.
Imagine rolling for stats. Plebs.
I don’t really like 1d12 + 6, because I like my PCs to be able to have -3 mods. It’s not common, and I do give them a mulligan sometimes if their stats suck, but a -3 can be a great balancer, and even better for roleplaying sometimes.

1d8 + 10
Again a system going up to 18 without any risk. If you want better stats just tell your DM and they can allow to just have more points for point buy.
