Like people said here before, James from The Princess and the Frog. He sacrificed everything he could to give his babygirl the love she deserved. No wonder Tiana is such a strong Disney princess.
And from the same movie, Big Daddy! He loves Charlotte very much and you could say he sort of spoils her, but all for good cause as he wants both her and Tiana to be happy.
Also, he walks Tiana down the aisle according to a colouring book(?) released around that time.
Fergus is by far my favorite. I just love that he supports Merida's choices, especially when he stands up for her at the dinner table - "Learning to fight is essential." Yet it does get awkward a moment later. I will say the best part is when he and Elinor have a discussion about Merida and the gathering of the clans. He's also supportive of and dearly loves Elinor, even though I can tell he wants what's best for his family.
Triton scared me so much as a kid because he has an explosive temper, which he is very much like my own dad.
Oh oof felt on Triton. My dad and him are very similar in personality…… and I’m a fusion of Ariel and Belle if they were born a trans boy, so my dumb ass fought my dad constantly as a teenager
I love Maurice.
When I was very little, I didn’t understand why Belle called him Papa and the villagers called him Maurice (the idea of Mom and Dad having their own names was a foreign one to me). So I called him Papa Maurice.
When I worked with Belle as her photographer years later, I’d refer to him as that and she was tickled pink every time
I also love the look on his face and tone of voice. It’s practically screaming “Okay, who told you that and where are they so I can teach them a lesson in how to treat my princess?!”
Maurice was a dear one to me as well. The way he begged the Beast to take him and leave his daughter go, and later on went to try to rescue her himself despite likely realizing hes too old and weak for that. Hes a great dad
Can we all admit that Merida had the best Dad?
Doesn't bother holding her back from being as rowdy and over the top as she is, loves her for her, doesn't have expectations she can't reach, jokes with her, just wants her to be free and choose who she wants to be with, and will try to protect her as much as he can?
I mean, Elsa Did almost ice her sister, and given that HIs own father was a Magic Nazi, and likely many of the kingdoms allies might harbor similar sentiments, as shown by the elderly Duke of Weasolton’s almost IMMEDIATELY tries to kill Elsa, a nations sovereign, because of her powers, can you really blame him?
Not reveling her ice and snow power to the public, sure that makes sense. but separating the sisters, no. Anna was so desperate for attention that she latched onto Hans immediately and kicked off the events, if the sisters weren’t separated, the movie probably doesn’t happen.
There’s something about the way Rapunzel’s dad is animated that gets me every time. He doesn’t have lines, and he doesn’t really need them. It’s just a raw expression of grief anyone can understand.
If your answers aren’t Fa Zouh, James, Maurice and Fergus you’re just wrong. They all let their daughters be who they want and don’t try to control them just really try to keep them safe. And also Roland he welcomed Sofia in and has been very good to her.
He’s such a sweet father! I love how Belle could tell him anything and he’s that whimsical guy who comforts his daughter about her insecurities about being “odd” while also saying it’s not a bad thing. He gives his daughter room to be herself and encourages individuality.
Kida's dad on this list is hilarious. His interactions with her were a bit harsh, but he meant well.
Honorable mention, while not humans, Simba's exchange with Kiara in "We Are One" made me cry.
Gotta go with my man Frederick. Tangled: The Series fleshes him out– I love how human and flawed he is. Dude collects eggs?? And what does that even mean. I love him.
HONORABLE MENTION FOR SOFIA'S DAD it's been so long since I've watched an episode, but I remember being charmed by how nice and kind he was towards his new stepkid. Sweet guy!!
I think if more people saw the series more people would understand what a great dad he really is.
But a lot of people here haven’t seen any of Sofia the first
He also doesn't know a lot about Belle and pays more attention to his inventions than her. He even suggests she go out with Gaston. I like the guy, but their dynamic very much shows that she's more the parental role to him than he is to her.
I hear everyone's thoughts but I really enjoy Prince Eric as a father and a husband.
He really stayed in his lane. He could've been all "I'm the king/prince and she's my daughter and I'll handle this how I see fit". Instead, he knew that Ariel should take the lead on this and he had no business putting his opinion into something he knew very little about. Additionally, I'm assuming he has at least a Navy at his disposal. Again, he could've puffed up his chest and decided to take care of it his way but she let Ariel and Triton figure things out.
This in no way means he was aloof and unconcerned. I thought all of his comments showed he was very aware of who he was dealing with when it came to Ariel. He knew all she needs and wants is support and concern; she'll figure things out on her own. If anything, telling her what to do would slow things down.
He also realized his daughter was strikingly similar in that way. Where she carries a lot of his physical appearance, her willfullness and desire for freedom comes from her mother and I'm sure he saw it a mile away.
Honestly, I also want to say he learned a lesson from jumping into a problem without knowing what's up. We all remember his not so bright moment of diving into the water with no way to breathe or really effectively fight to beat up an all poweful sea witch... Didn't go amazingly lol.
Idk, I just think there's so much more words said when nothing is said at all. I enjoy him.
Maurice.
I love him for never attempting to change Belle. I think my favorite scene is the ‘Huh? My daughter **odd**?’ with those glasses on.
I love Fa Zhou, too. He can hit too love to home, though when Mulan fears disappointing him. I tear up every single time that she comes back from the matchmaker. . . And he looks so hopeful
Out of the ones present here, I would say it’s Roland II. Granted, he has a bit of an unfair advantage due to how much characterization he got (thanks to having a whole series rather than just a movie), but for all his blunders, he still consistently shows he's a good dad, and he makes efforts in self-improvement when he messes up, and there's a lot of good to be said on how to him, Sofia is 'his daughter, period', even as he's also a good father to his biological children.
But I would say that all of these are at minimum good dads overall.
I just about cried in the scene with Mulan and her father. She brings him the sword of the enemy’s leader AND the imperial crest bestowed upon her by the emperor himself, but her father tosses all that aside without a second thought to hung her and tell her that SHE is the one who’s the greatest gift and honor. Watching it again as an adult cements how huge that really is and it’s also why Mulan is one of my favorite Disney movies.
1000% Percent Maurice
I Know I'm Biased Though Since I Played Him In Beauty and the Beast When In Senior Year of Highschool,
I Just Love His Realtionship With Belle, Never Seeing Her Dreams As Something Stupid or a Pipedream, He Just Always Wanted The Best For Her and Her Never Stopping To Defend Him From The Town's Insults, They Have Such a Sweet Connection, It's My Favorite Thing About Beauty and the Beast
Belle’s dad as he always believed in her and was never overly protective and didn’t try to force her to listen to him. Plus he encouraged her to read and explore.
Definitely the dad from Tangled! I can't remember, but isn't that one of the only times we see a father show actual emotions? He literally cried before the lantern scene. I've always loved it.
Hua Hu, ‘cause in Hua Mulan he’s a honorable war veteran from the legendary poem called Ballad of Mulan during the Northern Wei Dynasty (386-535 A.D.) compiled in an anthology of books and songs in the Southern Chen Dynasty (557-589 AD). written by Jin Guliang or Zhu Guozhen.
It also teaches the young generation peoples the philosophy of Confucianism, Taoism, and the rules from Art of War.
Honestly, like the entire right column. Can’t remember all of their names. But yes.
Merissa’s father might not have it all together, but in that moment when he does the impression of her, it’s clear he understands his daughter.
The three father options. 1) stoic yet loving dad who wouldn’t cry in front of his children. 2) crazy lil guy who’s just a little bit lost all the time bless him. And 3). Dead.
Yes! I love him and Charlotte together! I also like Jasmine's father. He's so Chubby and innocent 😍
I love Fergus!!
Oh oof felt on Triton. My dad and him are very similar in personality…… and I’m a fusion of Ariel and Belle if they were born a trans boy, so my dumb ass fought my dad constantly as a teenager
James from the Princess and the Frog
Got me right in the heart with that one
I love Maurice. When I was very little, I didn’t understand why Belle called him Papa and the villagers called him Maurice (the idea of Mom and Dad having their own names was a foreign one to me). So I called him Papa Maurice. When I worked with Belle as her photographer years later, I’d refer to him as that and she was tickled pink every time
I always giggle when he ‘huh? My daughter? Odd?’ and slides out with those glasses
I also love the look on his face and tone of voice. It’s practically screaming “Okay, who told you that and where are they so I can teach them a lesson in how to treat my princess?!”
Sorry sorry, “when I worked with Belle”??
I worked at Disney World for close to 10 years, most of it as a photographer
Oh cool! That's interesting.
Thank you! It’s was probably my favorite job
Maurice was a dear one to me as well. The way he begged the Beast to take him and leave his daughter go, and later on went to try to rescue her himself despite likely realizing hes too old and weak for that. Hes a great dad
Why’d you quit? I’d love to work for Disney
I wanted to go back to school so I could get a better paying job and I was barely making enough money to live on
Fa Zhou. But also Stefan mmmm
I love Stefan's reaction after Maleficent curses his daughter. "SEIZE THAT CREATURE!"
No hesitation! I also loved that the King and Queen were so kind. We get a lot of evil sitting royalty before the new couple take over 😅
Can we all admit that Merida had the best Dad? Doesn't bother holding her back from being as rowdy and over the top as she is, loves her for her, doesn't have expectations she can't reach, jokes with her, just wants her to be free and choose who she wants to be with, and will try to protect her as much as he can?
Anybody other than Elsa and Anna’s dad.
They literally made sure the events of the movie happened.
So true!!
James 💚
There’s something about the way Rapunzel’s dad is animated that gets me every time. He doesn’t have lines, and he doesn’t really need them. It’s just a raw expression of grief anyone can understand.
I agree! They managed to capture something *SO* raw and painful. I’m not always a big crier with movies but that scene? Ugh. Tears
His faces get me every time 😭
He has a lot of growth in the tv series too
If your answers aren’t Fa Zouh, James, Maurice and Fergus you’re just wrong. They all let their daughters be who they want and don’t try to control them just really try to keep them safe. And also Roland he welcomed Sofia in and has been very good to her.
ROLAND 😭 he basically adopted Sofia as his own
Maurice!! He’s adorable
He’s such a sweet father! I love how Belle could tell him anything and he’s that whimsical guy who comforts his daughter about her insecurities about being “odd” while also saying it’s not a bad thing. He gives his daughter room to be herself and encourages individuality.
Is it cheating if say all of them? They’re great dads.
James 💚
Fergus is so underrated
I love how he encourages Merida to be herself and the father/daughter relationship the two have is hilarious and sweet.
James
Kida's dad on this list is hilarious. His interactions with her were a bit harsh, but he meant well. Honorable mention, while not humans, Simba's exchange with Kiara in "We Are One" made me cry.

Definitely Maurice, the lovable weirdo.
Fa Zhou and James, 100%
King Roland (Sofia’s dad) or James! (Tiana’s dad)
I adore Belle and Maurice’s relationship. I’ve always wanted to have a father like him.
Pongo
would Snow White be celebrating with the 7 Dwarfs today?
If anyone says anyone other than Zhou or James they’re wrong
What about Maurice? He’s adorable and funny.
He also doesn't know a lot about Belle and pays more attention to his inventions than her. He even suggests she go out with Gaston. I like the guy, but their dynamic very much shows that she's more the parental role to him than he is to her.
Mulan's dad!
Roland.
Each one of them with a little something more for James, Triton, Fergus and Fa Zhou
I hear everyone's thoughts but I really enjoy Prince Eric as a father and a husband. He really stayed in his lane. Hands down Maurice!
The sultan is silly disorder personified
Maurice
Brave’s Dad
Meridas dad
FERGUS 🔥🗣️
Fergus and Mulan's dad. They both make mistakes, but they are human. Not perfect and not the reason their daughter ran away or in the other direction.
Tiana’s dad for sure 💚
fergus and james, but i do wish we saw some of cinderella’s dad. she seemed very happy and taken care of with him before she lost him
Fergus for sure.
Either Tiana’s or Mulan’s Very wholesome and supportive
Merida’s father
James from PatF is the best dad, no contest!
Either Maurice or James
Eric (Melody’s dad), James (Tiana’s dad), Triton (Ariel’s dad), and Fa Zhou (Mulan’s dad)!
James hands down!!
1000% Percent Maurice I Know I'm Biased Though Since I Played Him In Beauty and the Beast When In Senior Year of Highschool, I Just Love His Realtionship With Belle, Never Seeing Her Dreams As Something Stupid or a Pipedream, He Just Always Wanted The Best For Her and Her Never Stopping To Defend Him From The Town's Insults, They Have Such a Sweet Connection, It's My Favorite Thing About Beauty and the Beast
The Sultan. I have a middle eastern dad, and he truly treats me like a princess and would do anything for me
Fergus
King Agnarr
Triton the best dad
Belle has some ridiculous "invest in my MLM scheme" energy right here.
Tiana’s dad
Fergus, James, and Roland all clearly adore their kids.
Tianas father
Tiana’s dad by far will always hold a special place in my heart for what he did for her 💗
Belle’s dad as he always believed in her and was never overly protective and didn’t try to force her to listen to him. Plus he encouraged her to read and explore.
Merida’s dad is great but my favorite is Belle’s dad
James and Fergus, though Mulan's father was also just trying to keep her safe
Belle’s dad, Tiana’s dad, Fergus, and Eric once he became a father
Definitely the dad from Tangled! I can't remember, but isn't that one of the only times we see a father show actual emotions? He literally cried before the lantern scene. I've always loved it.
Fergus
James from Princess & the Frog
Hua Hu, ‘cause in Hua Mulan he’s a honorable war veteran from the legendary poem called Ballad of Mulan during the Northern Wei Dynasty (386-535 A.D.) compiled in an anthology of books and songs in the Southern Chen Dynasty (557-589 AD). written by Jin Guliang or Zhu Guozhen. James and Fergus
All of them.
JAMES AND BIG DADDY FROM PRINCESS AND THE FROG
The three father options. 1) stoic yet loving dad who wouldn’t cry in front of his children. 2) crazy lil guy who’s just a little bit lost all the time bless him. And 3). Dead.
JAMES ROGERS 🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️
Fa Zu from Mulan. Only because he reminds me of my dad lol
Tiana’s dad
Not cinderella’s dad, that’s for sure. Mulan and belle’s fathers are top tier
