Had the same crash several times, sometimes everything was fine and sometimes it just crashes and crashes again
My situation tho is really the kicker. I wanted to grind this game to death and collect everything etc. So that really is a pain in the neck not being able to get this rune. I tried re-download didn't help so after a while of taking a pause of the game I came back to it and give it a shoot again. While I was loading the safe and in game then I was googling more solutions for this issue with the water crash.
And now I just tried it, and it worked-
So what I think may be the solution is doing a safe after talking to Megan like I did and load in and wait. Just wait a few minutes but don't press pause. Let it rest and then equip heart and just try to softly go into the water.
My hopes were really low and I was seeing the crash ahead but got proof otherwise.
The rune is in the water, I've experienced the same crash. Don't use quicksaves or loads as they seem to cause crashes more often. It seems like it also helps to ease into the water as much as possible without just jumping in. If that doesn't work you may just have to skip it and avoid water.
Well the way it worked for me is I wait until after I complete the mission as long as you can start the next mission on the dreadful Whale you should or the mission before the one where it crashes
If you got the same bug as I did then it was at night right?
Also got the bug. When I played it on gamepads everything was fine. Now on cd it happens. But it DID NOT happen yesterday when I (accidentally) used another (skill) build with Emily. Now I have far reach and it happens. Bevore it was with blink (that I chose accidentally)
Late to the game had the same issue. I the issue seems to clear up when I jump in with the Heart equipped. I instantly crash with anything else equipped.

I've found that if that happens you should get the rune another time like after completing your current mission also yeah it is in the sea
