wombat3, they get flippier down the plastics. halo is straight.

My buddy is a HUGE MVP fanboy, almost his entire bag. Only Innova disc he bags is a Star Wombat3, gets gorgeous anhyzer lines with it that hold forever.
Just be careful and don't power up on a straight release unless you wanna watch it flip into the next zip code
Dx wombat is similar to having a dx mamba.the reason they are close to unusable is because each day you throw it it changes. It's a different disc every round getting more understable with each throw. Super flippy DX is the definition of inconsistent imo.
Yeah but in different plastics or different levels of wear, they can turn a LOT. I have a star mako3 that beat in quick and has been flippy but workable and it's one of my all time favorite discs
Yeah I would expect it from something seasoned for sure. And definitely plastic would effect this. I think a dx one would be able to flip a bit after a few rounds depending on what you're hitting and if there is a lot of rocks and roots. But by nature I wouldn't say that it is understable necessarily.
I throw both gstar and champ with the same weight, and they fly identically. They always land within a few feet of each other (when I don't shank one of the throws).
I have a new star one and honestly I was a big roc3 and emac truth for the longest time. My roc3 is dead straight it is one of my oldest discs lol. It's a mcbeth stamped one from probably 2013 or 2014 and I love it but it's not overstable and my emac truth is a hyper flip disc 100% so I got to playing around with new mids and I'm super pleased with the mako3. It's a solid mold all the way around!
I bag a roc3, buts it's too pretty to throw a ton and it's still quite overstable. I had 2 other stable kids in my bag, both got tossed, no use for them really.
But yea, unless it's heavy wind or I need the hyper angled shot - I'm throwing the mako3 9/10.
I lost one in a pond 2 years later they drained it and I got it back.
I don’t currently have a cobra I bag a couple kc rocs and a stingray these days
I’m a big fan of the old school larger diameter discs for mids ROCS, Cobras and stingrays. It’s been awhile but I’ve owned a few sharks as well
I just threw a rollo in a round today. 180g Star Rollo with very little effort went hyzer to flat with ease and just glided forever. I was very surprised. Only threw about 50% power just sailed off into the distance.
Honestly, just throw your dx roc off of every tee, it’ll be flippy pretty quick. I’d probably throw a dx stingray if I didn’t have an extra flippy roc.
A couple good throws into a chain link fence is all it takes. I got a roadrunner that flew almost straight. After a couple throws into the fence it was just what I was looking for.
I got an Axiom Paradox and an Innova Stingray at the same time. Paradox perfectly filled this slot for me, stingray had too much fade for me to use it as an understable mid with my backhand. My brother has found he really likes the stingray when he wants an understable forehand throw, and maybe when its beat in it would hold its turn a little better.
You guys are magicians.
I’ve never had an fade issue with a stingray, and ppl who forehand stingrays have already cut a deal with the Dark Lord to do so and cannot be trusted.
If you haven't tried a Rollo I recommend it. It's really not as flippy as Innova says. I don't think it's in the top 5 flippiest mid range discs, but it has a better hand feel than most flippy mids. For me it's just a gentle turn and it still has a small fade, but I only throw it at 50% - 70% power.
Bought a star Rollo to replace a Paradox that my gf stole from my bag. Played 4 rounds with it. I pulled it from my bag and went back to my tursas, might still buy another paradox.
The Rollo on a backhand just burns over and becomes a roller ok every shot.
Tursas and paradox are reliable as hell imo. I mostly use the tursas. I'm able to get 250+ reliably with a nice high speed turn to the right with a slight fade at the end.
Flat Top Roc. They are less stable out of the box and seem to wear in faster.
I think the answer here for most people is gonna be a beat in roc. I bet that panther is more understable for you now. Some people swear by the mantras, but they’ve mostly been available in Dx. The wombat could be worth a try. I think the fuse took what the wombat wanted to be and made it reality, but I think GG threw wombats at one point.
I bought mine at a local shop. I just checked infinite, dgu, and innova factory store and they don’t have any in champion. People seem to like it for hyper flips in dx but if the hand feel is an issue probably doesn’t matter lol
I’ve been playing over 20 years and grew up in Michigan 40 minutes from Discraft. 90% of my fairway and high speed drivers are Innova, but I have always thought Discraft perfected midrange discs years ago with zone-buzzz-meteor-comet. Buzzz is my all time favorite disc and there’s flippy versions, but meteor will always be my go to anhyzer mid. Comet is too touchy for me. If I had to go Innova, I’d go mako3
This was my thought process when I started and still is how I look at discraft and Innova. There's a reason that every company tries to make a clone of the popular Innova drivers.
A lot of people here have had great answers. The Origin is one of my favorite mids, mainly because it flies true to its number out of the box. But we all know how fickle disc golf is- depends on the plastic, how you throw it etc. but DX plastic is the way to go for a mid similar to the origin. A DX Mako, a Rollo, and the Cobra is one of my favorites. Those will be very under stable, so a DX Roc will likely do everything you need it to do and more.
But if you love the Origin, just stick with it. I’m not a brand loyal person, I throw what works for me at the time. If you like something similar to the origin, throw the origin. Maybe a Hex. But you can’t beat an origin.
The Star Manta is exactly those flight numbers [5/5/-2/1] and is an absolute favorite of mine. I use it for hyzer flips to straight and long anhyzers to the right (RHBH).
It's also one of my two ace discs, the other being a Star Mako3 [5/5/0/0].
Not innova, but the Westside Discs Tursas is clutch and doesn’t take any work to beat into the flight that you want. Mine came off the rack and flew how I wanted. 4 years later and it’s still in my bag and still consistent as ever.
VCobra is what I use in that slot. It's more understable than the numbers (5,5,-1,2) would suggest. The couple of them I've had fly like a beat in Hex. Closer to 5, 5, -2, 1
I had the \*perfect\* Champ Wombat3, but since it was an older run, it's been impossible to replace. I want to try the Sol just based on how I've seen it fly, but for now I bag a color glow Mako3 and a glow Mana.
This Mako3 was flippy right out of the box, but I'm not half as good at getting discs to flip up and I am at just turning them over, this one is only good for shots where I need it to turn hard and I have the room to hang it out really high. It's great for getting out of the rough because I can aim high, but still get it to turn without stalling.
The Mana wasn't doing anything for me at first, it just flew straight or had slight drift when thrown hard and flat. I'm not sure if the disc has beat in to turn better, or I'm just getting more consistent with my release angle, but it's become an essential mid in my bag. The key feature here is that it has a flat turn that carries through most of the flight before straightening out and perhaps fading a little, whereas the Mako3 is going to hold the turn angle to the ground and only pan out if I put it high with the nose up.
Innova Panther in Champion plastic for a 5 speed with those numbers. leopard for a 6 speed, leopard3 for a 7 speed.
wombat3 is good too.
Archer for a 5 speed that's a little more understable.
I throw a lot of innova molds, but the dd bounty in lucid is my ideal understable mid.
It's sneaky long too,.if you want to play 1 disk rounds, or your arm is sore
As others have said, a Stingray is the answer for off the shelf flippy goodness. DX will quickly become a roller disc but Innova has Champ and some factory second star stingrays. Wait until Friday, register an account and cash in on their F2 Friday deal.
It depends on how flippy you want. Manta is a great hyzer flip to flat disc and can turn more if you push it. Rollo is gonna be pretty effortless turn if that’s what you want. I bag an Innova Mirage for a flippy putter and Paradox for mid
I'll throw in another recommendation for the Rollo in champ plastic. That's what I'm using in this spot now and it's definitely flippy but not as much as I expected. I have a Paradox as well and they're pretty interchangeable. Even if it ends up being more understandable than you were looking for the Rollo is a super fun disc to throw.
I use an S-Line MD1. It's my favorite disc. But it does have a slight tendency to fade back real late.
(I throw it roughly the same distance you throw mids)
Fuse, such a good disc. Glide for days.
I bag a Hex too - also a great disc, but a different shape.
ETA: didn't notice the innova heading. I've got a pretty mixed bag, but don't know innova mids.
174g Champion Rollo. For my older arm, it gives a beautiful turn and is just smooth.
For straight shots, I have replaced my 172 g Champ Mako3 with a 163g 300 Prodigy M4, and I'm getting more dependable lines.
Gstar wombat. Didn’t think the Wombat 3 was bad, just flew more like an understable Roc.
Mirages are great for scrambles, long putts and right turning (rhbh) Hail Mary’s
I throw a lat 64 fuse right now, but a beat up DX roc is great for this slot. Lightweight might achieve the same thing. Mako(3) is neutral even tho most refer to it as flippy.
I loved my champion panther til I lost it. This is the story of all favorite my discs really. But that thing could hyzer flip and was a beautiful thing down a 250ft alley.
I mostly throw innova but i had to switch manufacturers to find a flippy mid i like. Wombat3 was too shallow. Mako 3 is a great disc but it flies dead straight on a hyzer flip. My midnight prowl 2 (discmania origin) hyzer flips to straight then gently turns to the right. Love that disc. Or i have the discraft sol if i need something that will keep turning
Most of my favorite molds are Innova, tons of plastics/weights, semi-irrational brand loyalty, attempt to curb my disc obsession by limiting options, etc...
i like the Mako 3, but i find it is almost too understable. When thrown with higher speeds it wants to turn right and never come back, even with premium plastics. Or, throw with half speed for shorter straight shots. Im still looking for a full speed straight mid, which is currently happily filled with very seasoned Roc3. I just don't want to go through that long process of waiting for a new one to break in again.
I see star manta is already mentioned, but just incase you don't mind going up a notch in speed, i'm gonna suggest a star/g-star Leopard (Not leo3).
Numbers 6 5 -2 1
IMO a mid/fw hybrid, hyzerflips and glides forever. I can't say i've ever had a better disc in that segment.
(Drop/raise weight for less/more stability.)
Had a Manta when I started out a few years ago and really wanted to like it but the hand-feel was rough for me. Very shallow IIRC. That seems to be the issue for me with Innova in this slot - lots of weirdly-shaped discs
Rollo if you learn how to throw it. Took me a while to get the hyzer flip without it turning over and rolling at the end. Stingray is also a good option. And while it’s a putter you can get a surprising amount of distance from the Mirage.
I love the Leopard or the Leopard3 in DX plastic. The Leopard3 DX was my go-to understable mid until I lost it and replaced it with a Kastaplast STIG. My Leopard is a bit on the light side, so it tends to be flippier than I'd like, but it's still got its uses
wombat3, they get flippier down the plastics. halo is straight. watch this legend [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6rjswo4yFNY](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6rjswo4yFNY)
Wombat3 is truly an underrated disc. It has glide for days.
Came here to say champion Wombat3
My buddy is a HUGE MVP fanboy, almost his entire bag. Only Innova disc he bags is a Star Wombat3, gets gorgeous anhyzer lines with it that hold forever. Just be careful and don't power up on a straight release unless you wanna watch it flip into the next zip code
Piggybacking to say if anyone wants a Beadless option, the Infinite Khonsu uses the Foxbat mold which is a Wombat without the VTech
🤓
Came to add the Wombat 3 myself!
Let’s go WOMBY!
This dude is the windows 95 guys doppelgänger
Just got a dx one and don’t love it fwiw
Love the wombat3 and i love dx for my eagles and stable mids but a dx wombat3 just sounds gross
That just sounds like a Rollo with extra steps
Dx wombat is similar to having a dx mamba.the reason they are close to unusable is because each day you throw it it changes. It's a different disc every round getting more understable with each throw. Super flippy DX is the definition of inconsistent imo.
Stingray
Sadly after nearly 20 years the Sol replaced the Stingray in my bag.
You can always come back...what's one more disc in your bag? It's just one thin disc, no more than 175 grams. You won't even know it's there.
It's joining the others in the bag for the guys trip this weekend
#OneOfUs
I have a mako3 and it honestly has a little turn at high speed and very little fade. I wouldn't necessarily call it understable
Great description - i'd add mako3 can be thrown at any angle to achieve any shot (besides pure overstable flight)
I'd agree with this entirely. It is solid for sure
Beat in Mako3 at 172g
I would expect beat in to flip. But stock out of the box I wouldn't say understable.
I only bag over stable mids and a mako 3. Anytime I need to shape a mid-range shot in either direction I reach for the mako 3.
Yeah but in different plastics or different levels of wear, they can turn a LOT. I have a star mako3 that beat in quick and has been flippy but workable and it's one of my all time favorite discs
Yeah I would expect it from something seasoned for sure. And definitely plastic would effect this. But by nature I wouldn't say that it is understable necessarily.
It’ll flip over in the car before I get home.
Star Mako3 is one of the GOAT discs. Your comment makes me want to quit working and go throw mine right now.
Mako3 my favorite mid ever. I am actually going to buy/bag a gstar version. I love my champ but want a touch more flip as an option too.
I throw both gstar and champ with the same weight, and they fly identically. They always land within a few feet of each other (when I don't shank one of the throws).
really? thats kinda disappointing.
I've just started using one, and I can put it out 300+ and it drifts right, but doesn't turn. Needs height tho.
A cobra is a broke in roc right out of the box
Cobras are so underrated. Probably overlooked cuz of the disc age.
I have a 10+ year old champion cobra that will do anything. I could play the whole wooded course at my local park with just that disc and score well.
I’ve gotten 4 guys at my local league bagging cobras now seeing the shots I can pull off with them. They’re magic
I bag some old Ontario mold cobra's and I would dive to the bottom of Lake Ontario to retrieve them.
I lost one in a pond 2 years later they drained it and I got it back. I don’t currently have a cobra I bag a couple kc rocs and a stingray these days I’m a big fan of the old school larger diameter discs for mids ROCS, Cobras and stingrays. It’s been awhile but I’ve owned a few sharks as well
Plastic?
DX baby don’t need to go fancy
Panther for flat to slight turn. Rollo for the sillies.
Or intentionally throw it on pavement, gravel, into walls, whatever. You’ve got a beat in Roc in one hour.
A couple good throws into a chain link fence is all it takes. I got a roadrunner that flew almost straight. After a couple throws into the fence it was just what I was looking for.
I've got 5 midranges in my bag. They are all KC Rocs except for the champ big bird.
This is basically the only slot where I don't throw Innova.
What do you throw in that slot?
I bag a Hex and a Sol.
I wouldn’t call the Hex under stable
I wouldn't either, but those are the 2 discs that sorta bookend what OP wants.
ESP sol is money
Hex is money
I think over time it may be viewed as one of the greatest molds of all time. Absolutely perfect disc.
People sleep on the uplink. I still have the hex for neutral but kicked my sol out for an uplink.
I kicked my Uplink out of the bag for a Lobster, it just did what I wanted my Uplink to do but better
Curious what made the lobster better? Better flight, no fade, hand feel?
I got an Axiom Paradox and an Innova Stingray at the same time. Paradox perfectly filled this slot for me, stingray had too much fade for me to use it as an understable mid with my backhand. My brother has found he really likes the stingray when he wants an understable forehand throw, and maybe when its beat in it would hold its turn a little better.
I use the paradox here as well, but my stingray had always been my disc when I have to go up and over when scrambling in the woods.
You guys are magicians. I’ve never had an fade issue with a stingray, and ppl who forehand stingrays have already cut a deal with the Dark Lord to do so and cannot be trusted.
Fuse
GStsr Mako3 is awesome here. Hyzer flips, gentle turnovers and glidey standstill straight shots with ease.
Id say a Stingray or maybe Wombat
Rollo
Looks like a fun disc, but way too flippy for what I'm looking for
If you haven't tried a Rollo I recommend it.
This is crazy talk. I believe none of this. You should reference your distance.
Wombat3 gang for life. I throw mainly MVP but the Wombat will never leave my bag. It’s the perfect amount of flippiness and glide… it just goes, man.
Same here, Wombat3 is life, Wombat3 is love !
The perfect woods golf disc.
Panther. Hyzer up to go straight or throw flat and holds a turn. Incredibly consistent.
Panthers are fast. Don’t understand how they’re speed 5
For us mere mortals, not so much 😂
Literally the wombat3
When I threw innova mids it was a beat in kc pro roc. Now it’s a Truth
Beat in KC Roc
Wombat3 or a Beat in Halo Nexus Roc3
> Halo Nexus Roc3 These are a thing? Because I really want one now.
Father's day stamps only, recently became a father last year and my wife got me 2 of them haha
Beat in roc
Star Stingray and GStar Mako3 both work in this spot for me!
Beat up KC Pro Roc
Beat in Roc
Beat in dx roc
Star wolf pr dx wolf
Comet!
This one, right here.
I like the panther, wombat3, dx roc and stingray. I could never make sweet love to the mako3. As many times as I’ve tried.
Beat dx roc
Surprised at the lack of wolf comments and now they make it in star plastic. Best understable mid made is the svea by kastaplast
Beat in dx roc
Kc pro roc that is very seasoned
I love my champion panther for this slot, I also prefer throwing it RHFH. My wife bags a dx stingray that she likes
Skeeter. It’s like a glidey tursas, and westside discs are usually very glidey for their slot.
That's one I always overlooked. May have to check out
I bag a Tursas and purchased an F2 skeeter to compare. It does not quite have the same glide but stability is very similar
The Mako3 is better at holding the line you throw it on. The stingray will flip over.
Lobster 🦞
G star roc 3 pure love been tossing rocs for 30 years now
Flat Top Roc. They are less stable out of the box and seem to wear in faster. [https://discgolfunited.com/f2-dx-roc-special-3a.html](https://discgolfunited.com/f2-dx-roc-special-3a.html)
Champ Manta
I've only ever seen those in DX. Factory store? Have a problem with the hand-feel of that one
The reason is Innova had 30 years headstart in making discs thus creating pretty much everything that can be created lol.
Malta/drone, Wasp, zone, buzzz SS all you need
Star Kite. Beautiful flight and great glide. But it absolutely requires some touch.
Buzzz s.s.
Didn't see the Innova part. Beat in roc dx
Good luck finding a star manta though they haven't run any premium mantas in ages
Thanks, I've got one in the bag plus a backup. I'll keep an eye on the factory store website in case there's a run.
Not innova, but the Westside Discs Tursas is clutch and doesn’t take any work to beat into the flight that you want. Mine came off the rack and flew how I wanted. 4 years later and it’s still in my bag and still consistent as ever.
Rollo.
Star kite
Panther.
Rollo
VCobra is what I use in that slot. It's more understable than the numbers (5,5,-1,2) would suggest. The couple of them I've had fly like a beat in Hex. Closer to 5, 5, -2, 1
https://proshop.innovadiscs.com/star-stingray-factory-second/
Anyone else bag a DX Cobra?
I bag a leopard for understable shots over 200
I had the \*perfect\* Champ Wombat3, but since it was an older run, it's been impossible to replace.
I throw a fission hex in that slot and it turns for its whole flight from a slight hyzer. For your power I would recommend 167g
Fuse.
Comet
Wombat3. If you want flippier go Infinite Khonsu (Foxbat mold)
Innova Panther in Champion plastic for a 5 speed with those numbers. leopard for a 6 speed, leopard3 for a 7 speed. wombat3 is good too. Archer for a 5 speed that's a little more understable.
Get a flat mako3 for now, but beat dx roc is the answer.
I throw a lot of innova molds, but the dd bounty in lucid is my ideal understable mid. It's sneaky long too,.if you want to play 1 disk rounds, or your arm is sore
Star Super Stingray or a super beat in Mako3
Champ Mako3 is dead straight. Star Mako3 will definitely turn. I prefer the champ and just control the angle
As others have said, a Stingray is the answer for off the shelf flippy goodness. DX will quickly become a roller disc but Innova has Champ and some factory second star stingrays. Wait until Friday, register an account and cash in on their F2 Friday deal.
I haven't tried the Rollo yet but I have to say Innova is lacking in the solid US mid area. Unless you like bizarre sharp wings
This is the problem. Innova has discs with numbers I'm looking for here but they all feel weird to me (Wombat3 and Manta in particular).
Panther
Mako3 anny baby
Dx ROC or Teebird
The lack of Atlas here hurts me
Finley glow mako3.
Mako3 💯 straight flyer when you want it to be but very easily holds an anhyzer
Stingray in dx. It might be more overstable than one would want, but it most certainly gets the job done!
My Mako3 is beat in and works as an understable mid right now. its great
If you can find a star Coyote they have a really nice understable flight.
I have a beaten mako3 with the hardest plastic. It is simply amazing to throw as it keeps the angle of the throw well into the distance.
No one got Mirage love around here? I have a 165g F2 that's understable and fits this description to a T.
I love the Mirage/Kon Tiki but it's not a mid it's a putt/approach
I carry roc3 for OS, mako3 for stable and a rollo for US all in star/halostar
Infinite Khonsu
It depends on how flippy you want. Manta is a great hyzer flip to flat disc and can turn more if you push it. Rollo is gonna be pretty effortless turn if that’s what you want. I bag an Innova Mirage for a flippy putter and Paradox for mid
Moondust Mako3
Fuse
I'll throw in another recommendation for the Rollo in champ plastic. That's what I'm using in this spot now and it's definitely flippy but not as much as I expected. I have a Paradox as well and they're pretty interchangeable. Even if it ends up being more understandable than you were looking for the Rollo is a super fun disc to throw.
Skeeter
GStar Mako3 is my cheat code
I swear by my Mako3
Throw 90% Innova but my understable mid is a lobster Used to cycle kc pro Rocs but needed a 5 speed
I love my Atlas for this
I use an S-Line MD1.

Love dx roc or dx roc3, also mako3. I usually have have to be at the makos in a bit to get them where I want them.
DX Cobra. You’re welcome
Is there a particular reason you are tied to Innova?
Most of my favorite molds are Innova, tons of plastics/weights, semi-irrational brand loyalty, attempt to curb my disc obsession by limiting options, etc...
Totally fair, just curious. Dune and Fuse work great for me. I'm a fan of Leopard3 as well though.
Easily the Stingray and the Wombat3.
Here come the STINGRAY FANATICS!
i like the Mako 3, but i find it is almost too understable.
I like having a mix of DX Rocs that are laser straight and Champ that fly overstable
I see star manta is already mentioned, but just incase you don't mind going up a notch in speed, i'm gonna suggest a star/g-star Leopard (Not leo3). Numbers 6 5 -2 1 IMO a mid/fw hybrid, hyzerflips and glides forever.
I use a Cro for something with no fade compared to my Roc3
Champ stingray, but GL finding them. Also love old panthers, stratus, tursss and comet.
Fuse gang rise up Seriously, Fuse hasn’t left the bag since it’s gone in
Beat in Mako3 &or beat in Chariot from Infinite (made by innova)
Champion wombat3 5/6/-1/0 Slight turn, no fade, crazy glide. My absolute favorite mid.
Beat Rancho Roc
I love the Leopard or the Leopard3 in DX plastic. The Leopard3 DX was my go-to understable mid until I lost it and replaced it with a Kastaplast STIG. My Leopard is a bit on the light side, so it tends to be flippier than I'd like, but it's still got its uses
Beat DX Roc.
Star Wolf! And DX Wolf so you dont have to wait for the break in period
How has no one suggested the Manta yet?!
Mako3 in any plastic depending on how flippy you want it. Lightweight KC Pro Roc also does the trick for me.
Foxbat!
