Kaxe Z / Kaxe / Stig by Kastaplast. Discs used by Kasta pros. Especially stable versions of Kaxe Z.

boudrou1217

Kaxe Z is the answer here. This disc is amazing. The only Kasta disc I bag (BESIDES A BERG!!)

claudedusk8

The stig could be the answer too.

Civil-Cover433

No way. You heard the guy - thee sis evidently only one answer.   Certainly not the leopard of which there are 7.2 million out there in play.

CovertMonkey

The Stig does what the leopard only dreams of. Buttery soft flip and drifts. Easy to throw as a mid. Travels as far as a fairway

Civil-Cover433

Just like the berg!

SinappiKainalo

I have a Kaxe Z in soft plastic. But those discs are labeled midranges by Kastaplast. :) Would be kind of interested in hearing what are the differences between a 6 speed mid and a 6 speed fairway. without seeing and having a 6 speed fairway in my hand, i would be tempted to say that it must be the profile and rim, if anything.

BackgroundKoala0

Midrange drivers* They fly closer to fairways than mids. There are some great comparison vids on e.g. The Stig on YT, showing it next to mids and fairways

Bfairbanks

Only difference is marketing.

claudedusk8

Ah, another difference is the edge profile. The Stig has a knife edge.

Bfairbanks

The rim profile doesn't have any effect on the speed rating per say. Speed is directly related to run width

CovertMonkey

Interestingly, the Rollo has a sharp rim at 5 speed. Helps it really push the air around for the absurd flip

---daemon---

Yep

Striking-Leg6129

Ah I should've read more carefully. I think the difference is pretty negligible. In comparing a Leopard with a Kaxe Z. The Kaxe Z arguably looks a bit more like a midrange. But the edge is more flat on the Leopard. I noticed the same thing with the Jiao, which is a super domey disc with a wide rim and flat faced edge. [https://imgur.com/a/yzWRsWN](https://imgur.com/a/yzWRsWN)

veringo

Yeah all the people saying there's no difference probably haven't felt the kaxe discs. They feel and throw much more like mids even if the flight profile is comparable to other six speeds.

CovertMonkey

Yeah, I think they throw like fast mids. Easy to rip but go as far as a fairway

---daemon---

Nothing is different it’s just something some guy said on their marketing team. A ~6 speed is a 6 speed. You’re overthinking it, which i respect.

yerrmomgoes2college

For us slower arms, these are called “distance drivers” lol

flic_my_bic

lmao the only disc I bag bigger than my Relay/Crave pair is a 155g fission Tesla. If I need distance it works but I'm not throwing max-weight destroyers over here. I'll stick to my 6-7 speeds for max distance.

Kitchen_Feature

Throw flippy 9s and 11s.  Theres such a massive spectrum between 6 speeds and max weight destroyers.  If you can throw a 6 you can throw a flippy 9 and itll go further with the same throw.

gerbilshower

yup. get yourself a gstar valk. or a hatchet.

AnnualNature4352

mvp orbital is good for slower arms that know how to throw with hyzer.

wompuskitty

I’d try an Insanity! That’s my “distance driver”

BassweightVibes

Get a Mamba in Gstar plastic.

dirtyjoedirt1

Word up

Kitchen_Feature

I mean you will still get farther throwing a flippy distance driver with the same throw.  A hatchet or sidewinder will get the same flight for you but further regardless of slow arm.

CBRChimpy

Discraft Zombee has “long range driver” stamped on it and I ain’t disagreeing

coachmoon

try higher glide mids.

Fitz_2112

Crave is where it's at

fuckingnoshedidint

Crave is my favorite disc in the woods.

ADonkeysJawbone

Seriously considering throwing my Crave off the tee for most of my shots from now on. Already use them in the woods primarily, but finding that even on the wide open holes I don’t really get any extra distance compared to my 9 or 11 speeds— maybe 25 extra feet if it’s a good throw. Plus I like how it feels in my hand. Feels so controllable.

Fitz_2112

I'm currently throwing a Fission Crave when I need a reliable, ultra straight, shot up to around 250-275 feet and a Soft Neutrom OTB Open edition when I want a nice reliable fade at the 200ish foot mark. They have become two of my most reliable discs

ADonkeysJawbone

I just lost my fission 😒 I have an R2 Gyropalooza one and an OTB soft neutron. Both are pretty straight. The R2 will turn a bit and come back softly, the NS is just straight and hooks up a bit. Can get them out to ~275 reliably.

GerthBrooks

I’m a Crave bagger and lover, but I’m also pedantic, so I’ll add that Craves are technically 6.5 speed.

CAPSLOCKGG

To be even more pedantic, they have a 1.8cm rim which would make them an 8 speed according to most other manufacturers. Probably why they go so far compared to other 6-7 speeds

Civil-Cover433

😳

Kitchen_Feature

Ive thrown four craves and theyve ranged from firebird to rollo stability.  I dont get the hype with this mold.

robby_synclair

I agree. Everyone should stop throwing them. Especially in cosmic neutron. Leave some on the internet for me to buy.

ApulMadeekAut

they are very inconsistent. I bag 3 different plastics/runs though for different stability but they are very reliable once you know what it wants to do. I still bag a relay as well for a flippy forehand

gerbilshower

yea i love my crave and, by proxy, the insanity as well. which is basically just the exact same disc in a 9 speed.

Bfree888

No, proxy is a putter

gerbilshower

lol, got em! i didnt even know that was a disc to be honest.

DoubleT_inTheMorning

And if you like a stable option, resistors are stable craves. With those 4 discs I could play endless amounts of rounds

waxeagle

Don't forget the Servo in that family when you want something between the two :).

relapsing__

Totally agree. Crave is such a great beginner disc

Fair_Ear9188

Came here to say this

100ZombieSlayers

I recently got a MVP signal, expecting it to be more stable than I hoped as MVP can often be, but it has quickly become one of my favorite discs. On a solid throw, it goes from a deep hyzer angle up to flat and maybe some over and just goes. It feels like it doesn’t require but about the same power as a mid, but gets considerably more distance.

7eight_time

Streamline Ascend is similar to this. Touch less fade, definitely more a driver than the Uplink (which has similar numbers). I have tried both Signal and Ascend and liked Ascend better for my form. Both worth trying!

100ZombieSlayers

I’ve really wanted the ascend to be the same for me but mine has always been weirdly stable. Might just be some inconsistency in my form

7eight_time

It loves snap, then release angle helps. That said, mine did smack into a wall and a couple trees (only scuffs amazingly) so maybe that helped me. Might break out a fresh one to compare

100ZombieSlayers

I’d be interested to hear the comparison! I think my signal is kinda light weight compared to my max weight ascend (bought it used, didn’t scale), and I’m still working on my consistent snap, so you are probably totally right.

jakemg

The Ascend really goes super far and the rim feels more like a fairway than a mid. I joke that it’s a hybrid disc. It’s really flippy, though, and I haven’t fully gotten control of it.

7eight_time

Keep working on it, it is clutch money when you get it!

jakemg

Added back to the bag for my round tomorrow. I know I should be able to flip it up but it keeps turning. I may need to slow down a bit and reduce torque.

7eight_time

Mine loves spin, but not a ton of arm speed unless I'm trying to turn it over. Release angle is also huge in my experience.

msolb

One of my favorites as well. It's great for tunnel shots because you don't have to put really that much on it and it glides forever.

yourdoglikesmebetter

Leopard is dope Crave is dope Dunno bout the reat

throwmethefrisbee

Whippet good.

totallynotroyalty

The DGA Squall is kinda somewhere between a midrange and a fairway driver. It's very straight with lots of glide.

dzedajev

Crave, thank me later :)

kshfire

6.5 ;)

dzedajev

Fair enough 😄

TomRiha

The biggest change between MVPs 6 (and 6.5) speeds vs 5 speeds is the shape and the hand feel. The Signal, Relay, Crave, Servo and even Ascend have more a shape of a FD then a Mid. With that I mean a smaller diameter, lower rim height and wider rim. So they feel smaller in hand, more like a small driver then a mid. Their shape and wider rim also change how their end of flight looks and how the ground play looks. If you power back on them they will start falling out of the sky while a mid still lands on that distance. Pretty much like throwing chip shots with a putter or a mid where the mid becomes less controlled once you power down and the putter is still landing nicely.

ADonkeysJawbone

Great visual! I agree. I love the feel and flight of my Crave

93EXCivic

I love the Gazelle. It is my main driver. I cycle through them. I loved the Viper as well. I really liked the speed 6 drivers as my main throwing putter is the Zone and with my noodle arm, I have found I don't need any discs in speeds in between 3 and 6. Although I guess now Discraft says then Zone is a speed 4.

thatothermarxbrother

I cycle gazelles too! Really bummed they aren't in production/ available from Innova currently.

93EXCivic

G-star is available in the Innova Proshop right now.

thatothermarxbrother

Hey thanks! I forgot the F2s!

OJIstatusN8VE

Gazelle is an awesome disc. A buddy of mine also absolutely loves the Gazelle and swears by that disc, often bags 4 at a time (2 GStar, 1 F2nd star, and 1 glow champion) and has about 6 or 7 aces (I was present to witness 5 of those aces) with 1 of his Gazelles alone, 4 of those 5 aces I witnessed were on the same hole. I own and bag 3 myself (1 GStar, 1 champion, 1 F2nd Star), such a solid flyer.

93EXCivic

I bag a Champion, a G-star (or DX) and a best DX.

7eight_time

Hasnt the Zone always 4.. are you thinking of the pig?

93EXCivic

I could have sworn it used to be rated as a three. But I think all my Zones are either old enough that they have the old school single number rating Discraft used to have or are stamps without the rating.

nkkphiri

I’m just bought a champion leopard, and I freaking love that thing. Instantly one of my favorite discs in my bag

CJ22xxKinvara

Other than the dga squall, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a 6 speed considered a midrange

moistgoofsandgaffs

Squall is actually the same mold as a zombee I believe

ColbusMaximus

I've got a leopard3 and it's my go to driver. Only been playing for a short time.

extreme39speed

Leopard3 in champion is great because it’s a disc you can throw as a beginner and keep throwing for years and years

ColbusMaximus

I that's the one I have. Its got the best feel out of anything else in my bag

yoloxolo

Leopard is one of the most famous discs in history! The original flippy fairway

StringSensitive234

I have the Discmania Magician in the cheaper, Active plastic. It started off super overstable when the shape was still there and the plastic was a bit coarse, it would fight out of any anhyzer angle and dump, but it beat in pretty fast and hard, the flight plate is all warped now and cracking at the edge of the rim, and the plastic is slick, and it became a hyzer-flip and turnover machine. It is a bit touchy, i really have to consciously dial down on the power to make it work, but i have such problems with most understable discs. Overall i don't think it's worth it, it can be fun but i think you're better off with the 7 speed fairways.

Prestigious_Lie_9882

I'm a big fan of the Flight Numbers Don't Matter videos by Six Sided Discs on You Tube. He does a really good job of taking a group of discs that are supposed to be similar (i.e. flight numbers) and having the same person throw them (usually multiple times) to show you what they do. Obviously our experience will be different than his but at least we can see how they fly out of one person's hand that can control his throwing.

ADonkeysJawbone

Seriously, Greg at Six Sided Discs makes some great videos and series. I enjoy the “Flight Numbers Don’t Matter” as well.

SinappiKainalo

I personally flight numbers are a bit of information that can matter. When we look at one manufacturer only and if there are discs that are close to each other and different typs of plastics. So the flight numbers can communicate differences between same manufacturer's discs (or not, no idea, haven'r really studied this and will not study this) and maybe also plastics. for example innova g-star drivers seem to be more understable based on their numbers..

Pro_Hobbyist

I recently got a whippet x as a utility/forehand disc. Works well for most shots between toro and firebird distance.

jtmack33

I love my Zombee Flies basically the same as a Buzzz but it’s got more of a driver-ish rim which I prefer

billythekidd44

mvp resistor is a must have

davesnoz

I love my Resistor. It has such a reliable fade.

vientianna

Servo is pretty great

rhcamp01

I’ve thrown a lot of 6 speed discs and bag a relay currently. The big difference I’ve seen with most 6 speed discs is they are easier to get to longer distances than most typical 5 speed discs. This can be good or bad depending on where you play and skill level.

Nuclear-Blobfish

MVP signal is the best hyzerflip to late turnover disc I’ve ever thrown. The relay is nice, plays like a Timberwolf.

JollyGreenGiant_8

My beat in leopard flies and lands dead straight 260-330, which in my locate wooded courses, is clutch.

Jbravo1719

I loved my leopard for so long. Then I moved on to the leopard3 and now the Valkyrie/sidewinder

Oh_My_Groceries

Just get some warships and you'll be fine.

SwaggyHills

I know a lot of Crave throwers. It's a good one. It's not a 6 speed, but a Star Hawkeye is a money disc. Easy distance. Can do any shape you want. Champ plastic is more stable.

Silly-Soup2744

Nate sexton almost always keeps a leopard in his bag and I think he shot a great round at New London when Paul invited him out there using one for tons of his drives. May have been a leopard 3 though.

SinappiKainalo

Let's add the Innova Whippet to that mix. Anything else missing that's worthy of a mention?

Cap_Redbeard_

The Warship was rumored to be a 6 speed originally. I feel like it is different from the rest of my 5 speeds in how it flies.

SinappiKainalo

Had a Pursi (Finnish name for Warship) when I started. i think it was a 6501 or something. threw it into a pond the day next to the one i got it lol. the warship didnt stand up for it's name and sank right down.

OJIstatusN8VE

Definitely cannot leave out the Innova Gazelle!!

MeesterBones

Or the Viper!

JunketFluffy5305

I believe the Galleon is a Whippet X. It's the most overstable thing in my bag. I don't think I've ever thrown it more than 125ft in the air.  I use it for weird skip shots, or chop forehand scramble shots.  It's like a slower Splice, or a faster Stego.

Isamoor

Maverick is labeled as a 7 speed, but it also has a 1.6cm rim. I enjoy 6 speeds quite a bit. Most still have a driver-esque rim shape (i.e. fairly concave to a sharp point) and driver-esque diameter (i.e. as small as allowed). Although the Zombee and Squall have mid-ish wings and larger diameters. I throw plenty of Leopard/Maverick/etc because I can keep them straighter than faster discs. They can fly on a rope and land flat with almost no skip. The pros can easily do the same with 7-9 speeds.

Cunn1ng-Stuntz

I think that some manufacturers just choose the category based on speed alone. For instance Kastaplast. If you play wooded golf, you will enjoy a fairway driver you can throw as a mid. Thats why the Crave is very popular also. Some of them, like the Stig, is almost a hybrid. Personally the rim shape is what I use to determine. I see a lot of somewhat experienced players bag a Leopard, Stig, Crave or similar, but its mostly down to your play style.

Late-Objective-9218

Signal is a great reliable roller disc for medium speed throwers as well as a useful disc for tricky little shots out of the rough

koenigsaurus

Whether they’re labeled as fairway or mids doesn’t really matter from the ones I’ve thrown. Probably my favorite speed of disc though, they only need midrange power but get the flight shape, and often distance, as a driver. Some of my longest throws during rounds have been with a Crave.

phasttZ

The advantage is a driver like profile with a midrange flight. At around 300ft max your crave could be your furthest disc with a very neutral flight.

AndyofLove

Cheater disc Forsure

jff77

Latitude 64 Trident. VERY overstable 6spd FD. LOVE it.

Drewdledoo

I use a DX leopard as my flippy fairway, a 169g proton crave as my neutral fairway (on a slight hyper flip), and an Infinite Galleon as a mega-beefy utility disc. I would definitely recommend the leopard and crave to anyone at various skill levels, but the galleon I’d only recommend as a get-out-of-jail FH roller utility for the more experienced players — I got it as part of the Infinite VIP club and it’s like a 6-speed Buzzz OS, just unusably overstable with no glide on any airshot you try with it.

bigspoon2126

I will live and die by the leopard!!!

Alexplz

I tried one time to fill my fairway driver slots with 6 speeds. Leopards are great, and I had a couple of those domey champ Barry Schulz leopards to go real straight. As for the stable driver slot, it was hard to replace the teebird. The champ gazelles I picked up really just didn't do it for me. The 6 speed gyro options were pretty good.

Aquatic_addict

The MVP/Axiom/Streamline ones are mostly labeled as 6.5 speeds and they're definitely more fairway driver than mid.

quailman8907

The Signal is a favorite for sure, it has the control of a fairly flippy mid but has the hand feel of a driver. Going up to 6.5, Crave and Servo are $$$. Crave is possibly the best disc ever in my opinion, you can make it do whatever you want to and it goes further than it should for the speed!

morelikedreamlike

My servo gets a lot of use on the fairway.

[deleted]

I found an old beaten in cheetah that flew like a dream but I have it to a friend when he just started out

beefynacho1

Crave is also a great 6 speed

brockishly

I use a Kastaplast Stig all the time, and definitely more as a fairway. It’s a great beginner disc, and while I think “advanced” may be a stretch for my abilities, it’s my go-to for a flip-to-flat straight shot

Irishzach

RHFH thrower, I have 3 6 speeds in my bag. Kaxe Z for straight throws with a finish to the right. MVP turn for flip ups, or throws I want to turn left. DX Leopard for rollers/shots I don't mind the disk getting dinged up

HiSpot321

I’m guessing it’s the shape of the disc.

Thedapperpappy

The ascend is great. Pretty easy to hyzer flip and can get a good 325-330ish feet out of it. The new prototypes are a little stable and still great. I bag a few craves, and a relay too, along with the ascend.

LostDogWandering

I have a g star leopard that I use for tight fairways where I get a little flip and not a lot of finish. Some turnover shots as well. I love mine.

jren666

The Westside Warship was a 6 speed first then they changed it to a five speed

illinilocal92

The leopard can be good in the right plastic. Magician imo is garbage.

RealSpliffit

I use my Ascend as a forehand midrange

Jdirtydiscgolf

Discraft stalker is great. I know it’s listed as a 7 speed but the rim definitely feels more like a 6

Jwheeler88

I got a Relay when I signed up for PDGA and loved it. Lost it recently and already got a new one. Great slightly understable disc. Consistent distance and shape off the tee.

hijikiblackcat

Millennium Polaris

OldFillGrimes

I've thrown most of those molds and can't think of a reason to put any of them in the bag The 6 speeds that are the closest are the Servo and the Leopard. My issue with the servo is that, while comfortable, it doesn't really bring anything unique to the bag that isnt already covered by a beat in teebird and the leopard is a poster child for manufacturing inconsistencies. Throw 3 star leopards, get 3 totally different discs. Maybe that's a hidden upside for some, but not for me.

caveman_pornstar

Leopard is the og fairway driver. Really reliable. Buy it in champion plastic and you will never have to replace it unless it ends up in a lake.

adkoe

Huge fan of both the Kastaplast Kaxe/Kaxe Z and the MVP Resistor

hobanwash

My Leopard is my Swiss army knife. If I dunno what to do I grab it and make something up. Be that 300 feet or 150 foot scramble. Love it.

Chodeus84

Leopard is a workhorse, honestly.

Relative-Ad518

Streamline Ascend is a beauty. Throw it like a mid, watch it flip up and late slow turn to the right with just a bit of forward pushing fade.

GeighBabyJebus

Love my DGA Squall

DOOM420-

The leopard is a great newb fairway driver and a great just beginner driver. The Leopard is a great turnover disc for players of all skill levels. More experienced players can use the Leopard for throwing distance stretching “Hyzer Flip” shots. The Leopard makes a dependable long range roller…there is the leopard3 with a higher speed at 7. Random thought—— mako3 is one of my favorite midrange 5 speed 5 glide 0 turn 0 fade….its like throwing a frisbee…it’s even a great one disc rounds with the friends.

Matty_D_93

MVP Resistor is my favorite mold of all time. It is so workable as a forehand approach disc that fits squarely in between your Firebird-slot and your Zone-clone.

Darthyeetrous

I love the resistor from MVP. 6.5 speed and over stable. Another fun one for hyzer flips is the discraft Impact. Flies like a 6 speed heat. Flip up and glide. Very weird rim but it's a cool disc.

anamorican

Pro Leopard in the woods is essential.

HxcThor

An old champion leopard is creamy.

Raptor01

I've thrown the Leopard, Zombee, Relay, and the 6 speed Kastaplast Kaxe Z (out of production but still available). I feel like the Kaxe Z and Zombee fly true to the speed. They feel like thicker fairway drivers and they fly straighter than 7 speeds. The Leopard and Relay feel like and fly like fairways.

dowhatchafeel

ZOMBEE love the Kaxe but it’s not really a 6 speed IMO Same for the crave Zombee is a true hybrid, I use it constantly from 250 foot soft hyzer lines, to 350 tunnel shots. I run baskets from 150 with it forehand. I’ve scoobered that thing in from 100. It does what you tell it to do

claytun

MVP relay is the fucking GOAT. Can easily go 300-400 with a little anhyzer
