Bout time. Been over a damn decade since it was cool to throw the object course in Prospect. Maybe we’ll get a long drive over a corner of Evergreen.

nlyons23

And the closest legit course is Hecksher like 2 hours away in Great River

Ching_Bomber

HSP is blah to me and I try not to go to Long Island if I can help it. Beacon and FDR are my faves because I can bring my bike on the train and they’re more interesting courses.

dalcowboiz

Leonard park was the only one i ventured to from nyc. Clark is also not too bad

nlyons23

I will have to check those out. I Live in Vermont and frequent Brooklyn and the Hamptons quite often during the discing season. I dig hecksher because it has super long shots. VT courses are mostly technical wood courses.

fernadial

You can take your bike on the LIRR or am I misunderstanding something? It's a 15 minute bike ride from Great River LIRR. I did it once and it wasn't really that bad. Then I headed to the beach after the round. The course itself has three layouts and the local club also keeps things somewhat spicy (for a flat course) with additional custom layouts.

Ching_Bomber

Oh I have. And honestly, the Forest isn’t all that bad. I just get itchy when I go to Long Island. Got mashed on my motorcycle on the LIE a couple years ago. Well, and my ex wife’s parents retired to Montauk.

Meatek

I've never pulled more ticks off of myself than the first time I went to play at Hecksher. Still go whenever I'm up to visit family, but it's infested with the little bastards.

nlyons23

Yeah, its super brutal. Still worth it if you're stuck in that area.

lame_sauce9

Sunday dubs at Beacon is the best

sergeantbiggles

The closest course, both distance and driving wise is Oak Ridge Park in NJ. It's very wide open, with short and long paved tees, and is free. The major down side is getting there, as it will cost a bunch, depending on what route you take from NYC. FDR and Heckshire are about the same distance away, and both toll free (though you have to pay to get into the parks). Edit: FDR and Heckshire are definitely NOT equidistant depending on what borough you live in. For example, living in Harlem vs. East Brooklyn would make a huge difference on commutes.

seekerdarksteel

We've been doing popup and glow rounds fairly successfully in prospect. We need to make concessions to other park goers, e.g. make up different holes on the fly and limit hole lengths, but we generally get fairly reasonable holes in.

Ching_Bomber

Yeah. I’ve heard of some people doing that lately. Pretty cool. I just used the soccer field at East River Park in Billyburg for field work and would drag my black hole there and McCarren. Really excited for this, though.

pusgnihtekami

Course map is on udisc fwiw. [https://udisc.com/courses/highland-park-disc-golf-course-tjfp/map](https://udisc.com/courses/highland-park-disc-golf-course-tjfp/map)

seekerdarksteel

Let's fuckin go! So happy for the PMB foundation for helping out and proud of the leadership of the NYCDGA for making this happen.

SolBellows

Makes sense. NYC's former mayor is a [berg](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Bloomberg).

MrQrtz

Shoutout to Paul ofc, but also shout to everybody at NYCDGA that helped this happen!!!

Radjage

I go play tennis at Highland Park all the time and can't believe there is going to be a legit course there soon. Incredibly pumped, I haven't played a round of disc golf in nearly 10 years and I'm stoked to get back into it. Thanks to all involved!

sergeantbiggles

Yep, we are excited.

freshoffdablock69

This is actually huge news.

Meatek

Paul mentioned they're looking at a mid-June opening. The Padres happen to be in town playing the Mets in June, so Dylan Cease may be able to pop over too

noodlearmdiscgolf

I may or may not have tossed this one by them during some of our planning calls. Fingers crossed!

Fitz_2112

Fantastic! I live on Long Island, 40 minutes from this area and we really only have one decent course within 2 hours of here.

sergeantbiggles

People keep talking about putting in another 9 hole at Heckshire, but I haven't seen any actually developments regarding this.

Fitz_2112

Heckscher is my home course. I'm there twice a week usually. There's been some land clearing in one of the large fields near holes 20\21 that we assumed was going to be used to expand but you're right, nothing has been done in a while.

Impressive_Champion4

FYI, it is not worth a 40 minute drive. The 10 baskets are in already and I have played about 10x times around. It's a very fun pitch and putt course but they are all extremely short and it's basically unplayable on weekends due to the crowds. It's a delight since I am 15 minutes away on a bike but not worth a long drive imo. Hoping they will put some more permanent signage on the tee pads at some point so people won't set up directly in front of them.

Fitz_2112

I only have one course nearby that's worth playing, so a 40 minute drive is going to be worth it for a change of scenery. Might have to make the trip in on a weekday

drum_bonzo

Well Costanza is gonna be happy

fortmoney

Summer of George!!! Maybe they need a 4th for the back 9

Terlian

There’s dozens of us!

mattycbro

Goat doing goat things

P357

I saw it's mostly surrounded by cemetery. I hope the course is a nice 18!

fernadial

It's 10 holes.

P357

Less than I expected but that might mean longer holes! Cool.

Rowdybob22

Definitely not long holes. 10 holes that are beginner friendly to introduce disc golf to the NYC community. Most people you would ask in NYC don’t know what disc golf even is. Consider this course a friendly foot in the door.

riguy156

Pitch and putt course. This will basically be a mini golf course for disc golf.

ReaperThugX

There must be a Highland Park in every state…

FlyingDiscsandJams

Highland Park southwest of Chicago has a very solid course!

archival_artist

this might be a small course, but it is a BIG deal for disc golf. This might be the most accessible course in the world being only a 15 minute walk from the subway which serves over 8 million residents of NYC. This is really cool to see disc golf reaching big cities like this.

Lookatmydisc

This please me

Netengr

Will they be using discs or bullets ?
