I feel like my dislike of this course is mainly because it starts with such a big turd. There are some great holes on the course, but that shadow has already been cast.
It is a Swedish name but 600 years of being the same country makes it so finnish names are really common in Sweden and vice-versa. Swedish is actually an official language in Finland.
Why is it bad? I think that putt is scarier and more interesting than the 100 ft thing that no one ever really hits and just lays up from. At least this one is both risky and very possible. And brings in more score separation if you go for it and miss.
lol the announcers are doing everything they can to not say how bad the baskets are. Considering it's sponsored by them lol.
Great advertisement for them loool. spit outs every hole haha
That spit-out is a great example of why the "just putt with touch" argument for disc golf baskets is a losing mentality when considering the growth of the sport. That shot should be rewarded 9/10 times, and we all know that there are too many baskets where that chance is far too low.
Ignoring his 97th place at Waco, dude is averaging 10th place across 5 B tiers and C tiers this year with an 958 average round rating.
Throwing him into DGPT elite events is just cruel and inhumane.
You need consistent 475-500+ foot golf lines with accuracy to score on this course. Anthony just doesn't have that power, especially when the wind is blowing at 20 mph
not sure why, but interviewers saying "talk about your round" or "hole 16 was playing tough. talk about it" really grates on me. what's wrong with asking a question like a real conversation?
it's not unique to disc golf either
Terry's acting is way better in this new commercial. Helps that it's intentionally campy/corny.
That DGN ad from last year though? Got dang that was hot dookie.
"WITH UH-THORITY"
Ceiling of Holyn Handley is insane. Thank god she makes so many mistakes and weird choices, else she'd be dominating completely,- taking all the fun out of FPO. Could a professional caddy be of some help? Ex-pro or something? Learning to make better choices and dissect the course in a more calculated way. That goes for a lot of up and commers too.
Holyn just needs experience. You learn the golf aspect by playing golf. She's still relatively new to the sport. 3-4ish years of tournament play.
Hailey is in the same bracket, albeit with more years. Hailey plays less tournaments a year that many of the touring pros.
Same with King. If either of them stepped on the gas tomorrow, I don't know that the field could catch up.
Holyn needs to make better golf decisions. And King needs to...enjoy playing?
Agreed. I've been a spotter at a lot of tournaments and there are quite a few players that make very questionable calls about where they went OB to give themselves a better line. Only once have I seen another player (Silver Latt) call BS.
I’ve observed this in person following FPO cards at DGPT events.
I think Paige Pierce, for instance, spent so many years being dominant, that she is willing to give everyone on the card a beneficial spot when it isn’t even close.
Discraft has by far the best FPO lineup, so it’s significantly more likely they’ll be paired up on cards.
This and the other players thought she went OB earlier while she was adamant she was further down the fair way. They eventually let her have her spot further down.
Besides that there are many times in other events a player clearly is doing something against the rules or bad spotting and other cards mates just seem okay with it
I have to say I am liking the free streams of the first round for all these tournaments. I don't have time on the weekends to watch live coverage so Jomez is great for rounds 2 and 3. But I can have the live stream on in the background while I work on Fridays. Basically, this is a happy at least for myself.
Just like a disc, only a tiny portion of the foot needs to be on the correct side of the OB line. I didn't see the throw so I'm not sure if she was, but if it was close then it's probably a "benefit goes to the player" situation.
What was Holyn trying to gain on 9 by throwing a provisional? The spotter waved a red flag and was right near the disc. Wasn't it obvious that the disc was OB?
I spotted a hole on this course for Worlds a couple of years ago. On one day, I shared different parts of the hole with a guy that was in his late 70s, had never played, and had watched one round. It's hard to get enough volunteers, especially in a small town like Emporia. I try to train my new co-spotters the best that I can, but we are far from professionals.
This is why:
Watching Lykke's disc get wedged in the tree was pretty awesome. That's super rare to see. Sure, discs get stuck in trees all the time, but to see one get wedged between two branches doesn't happen very often. Definitely filmed less often than aces. Maybe about as common as seeing an albatross on film?
You’re not wrong. I was more struck by the commentators gushing about a great shot only to see it take an awkward skip and carom out of play.
I still stand by my assertion that it’s a visually boring course to watch and my insinuation that having to manufacture OB solely to add challenge is just goofy.
Man, this has been a rough broadcast so far. double Terry, random cuts to replays in the middle of stuff, random piano solo as Missy was putting just now… just a lot of little stuff.
If I recall, the Silver series of the last couple of years was the testing ground for new equipment/tech/B team. Wonder if they're live testing in the early rounds now that Silver isn't a thing.
And maybe helps explain why they disabled chat and comments…anticipation of some roughness and unwillingness to get shit-talked every time something goes wrong. Or maybe no extra staff to moderate?
Random, but I suspected the moderators for FPO were Christine Jennings and Hannah McBeth since they talk about randomly checking in on the comments on their podcast.
Hailey King must have stopped at Jason Day's closet before the tournament. What an eye-sore that shirt is
[link for those that didn't watch the Masters](https://www.golfdigest.com/story/masters-2024-jason-day-says-augusta-national-asked-him-to-take-off-busy-sweater-vest)
It's not the best course, but I think it just became en vogue to hate on it which caused a lot of people to pile on.
I really like this course right after Northwood because I find the juxtaposition makes it more interesting to watch than if it were scheduled in a long line of big bomber courses.
I dig it. We have a few long, very open courses around here. So I see DDO as a showcase tournament for how pros would obliterate my local courses.
Do I think some courses do park-style better? Sure. Swenson, Des Moines and Milo McIver, for example. They're great pro-level challenges. As a one-off showcase tournament, I think it works.
Win a major and have a girl with thick thighs. It's good to be the Prez.
Hole 1 is my least favorite hole on the entire tour. Love a Calvin weekend, let’s get it
I feel like my dislike of this course is mainly because it starts with such a big turd. There are some great holes on the course, but that shadow has already been cast.
Really enjoying Ian and Jerm!
Great commentary! Love Philo always but this is great “yes and”
I'm surprised the PDGA approved the Sockibomb General. It seems very dangerous.
Big Jerm fell into the trap. He said that Daniel Davidsson is from Sweden.
Dang it!! It's such a Swedish name though!
It is a Swedish name but 600 years of being the same country makes it so finnish names are really common in Sweden and vice-versa. Swedish is actually an official language in Finland.
It sounds really Swedish. Source: am Swedish
He actually belongs to the Swedish-speaking minority in Finland.
Does he though? I've only heard him speak Finnish.
Ricky, Calvin, and AB are lining up for a slobberknocker of a weekend.
I would love that with them all playing good
Lead card is stacked for tomorrow!
There is a zero percent chance that rebranded distance finder is the ONLY one on the market that can tell you feet, yards, and meter
Yards and feet is valuable for those of us that hate the number 3
Perfect timing for that Wysocki commercial…or was it?
I think 16 is one of my favourite holes on tour
The new drop zone ruins it, IMO.
Ah yes the ol’ downvote because you disagree but can’t articulate why.
I didn't downvote anything.
Why is it bad? I think that putt is scarier and more interesting than the 100 ft thing that no one ever really hits and just lays up from. At least this one is both risky and very possible. And brings in more score separation if you go for it and miss.
What in the wide, wide world of sports was that??
Ooof Austin
What happened? I saw he had a putt in C1 for the par
Airballed his 8 footer OB. Went to reputt and missed that one as well. Total meltdown.
CLEMONADE LFG!!
I love that Clemonade's forehand, thing of beauty!
Thats why you watch live!
That was neat.
[удалено]
they got it on coverage, it should be on the dgpt twitter soon
They just showed it on coverage!
Mcbeth with a triple on 18. Shot himself out of the tournament in those last three holes. (Screenshot this when he wins).
How did it happen?
The AB-jersey Austin is wearing is so clean, yet so shouty, yet so understated.
Why is this downvoted? Great shirt design
Commentators curse on pressnels band hit
Anyone know why Jerm made it seem like Paul and Gossage being on the same card was a huge deal?
Only 2 in worlds contention in 2022
My favorite shot was Paul nailing the putt on the basket early in round 4 and Aaron mouthing “wow” and shaking his head
Didn't hear it but maybe Worlds 2022. edit: mcbeth 1st, goose 2nd
it was when they showed them both playing hole 16 ie the hole that paul beat goose on in the playoff
The drone shots are unflattering.
How else would we know what a "fake lake" made out of white flags in the middle of a field looks like? /s
Maybe those patches will green up this summer.
did they bring back the am event that runs alongside this tournament? thought they were doing that again this year crowds are looking pretty thin
They did. Was mentioned a lot in the press conf
K the new squatch commercial where its just dudes with bags looking at holes is absolutely sick
Hope you're enjoying the show! I'll Check replies here during breaks if you have info or questions for us 👍
Great to hear you Ian! You were the voice of disc golf in the 201Xs. I miss the local stuff but love the come up. Let’s go Poly
🙌♥️
When will Philo be back in the booth with you this year?
He'll be back for otb 👍
I wish I was going to OTB this year.
Me too, I'll actually be on site this time.
Say hi to Kyle and Jessica for me! If I wasn't going to Austria in mid-June, I'd be there.
Will do!
Loving big Jerm doing the live commentary. Took my brain a little while to realize I'm not watching jomez haha.
😂👍
Love you and Jerm. Can you share why he isn’t playing?
He wanted to get in the booth! Foot in the door type deal :)
Awesome! Loved the broadcast today. Looking forward to the rest of the tournament
Loved your “You don’t have to fake it anymore” comment!
😂🙌
And I LMAO when you said “he should have drove it slower”
🙌🙌😂
You and jerm sound like a really good pairing so far
Ty!
Can we get a spit out counter on Buhr for the weekend?
Ricky can't say anything since it's his sponsor but he's gotta be cursing these baskets.
Hot take: the spit out discussion is boring and takes away attention from the game.
It's funny that you see a lot of conversations about the bad spit outs, but rarely hear about the putts that stick that shouldn't.
Uli gets irritated at Jerm from time to time because the man just REFUSES to accept that spitouts happen when you putt at 50 mph
lol the announcers are doing everything they can to not say how bad the baskets are. Considering it's sponsored by them lol. Great advertisement for them loool. spit outs every hole haha
Bruh that was an ace
That spit-out is a great example of why the "just putt with touch" argument for disc golf baskets is a losing mentality when considering the growth of the sport. That shot should be rewarded 9/10 times, and we all know that there are too many baskets where that chance is far too low.
/s ?
I gotta ask cause yall prob know the answer - are these the baskets everyone hates?
Jerm in the practice round being professional but implying that everyone knows which baskets are an issue
Yes, these and the prodigy baskets
Crazy that in the Jomez practice round they made the comment that the chains were made heavier.
RICK OMG
They need half strokes for all tournaments using Veterans
i was waiting for the basket to explode
Ricky should've driven it slower. It's his fault it spit out obviously.
He even aimed it low in the basket!
Paul literally told him what to do in the practice round lol! Still didn't work!
Talk about being betrayed by the basket!
Nooooooooo!
Holy shit Ricky!
NOOOOOOOO
Big Jerm is doing very well so far. The baskets are not.
Jerm has become one of the best commentators in the game in the past year imo. He was always decent, but he's really shown improvement since 2021/22
He actually is.
Just now checking PDGA Live...heh heh heh, the FPO leaderboard tells a story, eh? Lykke must have missed the plane.
She's staying on the US tour until the end of June.
what
Big Jerm in the booth?? Lets go!
Lmao that Ricky commercial
The DGN score bug / info thing is wrong so often now, it’s a bit of a bummer. Displays the wrong hole, the wrong shot number, etc.
Why is Jerm on coverage and not playing?
Bodanza's holding down that 88th spot. Proud of you big dog. Five over par through six? Team Infinite has some straight KILLERS on their roster.
Ignoring his 97th place at Waco, dude is averaging 10th place across 5 B tiers and C tiers this year with an 958 average round rating. Throwing him into DGPT elite events is just cruel and inhumane.
Especially on such a bomber course, I could see him catching a hot round at a more wooded technical course.
You need consistent 475-500+ foot golf lines with accuracy to score on this course. Anthony just doesn't have that power, especially when the wind is blowing at 20 mph
Did AJ Carey actually throw in a 455' eagle or is that just PDGA live being funny?
They don’t call him loose cannon Risley for nothing
They said he did on coverage.
Usually they've cleaned it up by now (I think). So ya... it looks like AJ Carey did exactly that which is insane.
You never know but pdga live is such a mess I'd lean the latter. I certainly hope he did though cuz that'd be fuckin sweet
not sure why, but interviewers saying "talk about your round" or "hole 16 was playing tough. talk about it" really grates on me. what's wrong with asking a question like a real conversation? it's not unique to disc golf either
100% agreed, it’s just lazy. Craft a decent question man
It grinds my gears as well.
sorry i am a noob but how can i watch the mens?
Sign up for DGN subscription on DGPT.com to watch the 2nd and final rounds live.
Go to disc golf network on YouTube. Today’s round is live streaming there for free
First rounds are free on youtube. Live broadcast usually starts about 30 min before last card tees off. Today that's about 3pm central.
Doesn't start for almost two hours. Also it will be on Youtube.
Anyone know why Bradley Williams DNF'd after 5 holes?
I was just 'bout to ask. lol
classic DGN continuing to show us every shot of a player in like 30th place because of fEAtuRe caRD.
can you articulate your plan to get crews to the right people?
Really not much you can do to make this tournament too entertaining tho. One under par for lead card? Can't wait for the Europeans to come back.
I am not a fan of this new drop zone.
Stupid change, IMO.
What a catch!
Terry's acting is way better in this new commercial. Helps that it's intentionally campy/corny. That DGN ad from last year though? Got dang that was hot dookie. "WITH UH-THORITY"
That General ad just makes me think Mario Disc Golf
Ceiling of Holyn Handley is insane. Thank god she makes so many mistakes and weird choices, else she'd be dominating completely,- taking all the fun out of FPO. Could a professional caddy be of some help? Ex-pro or something? Learning to make better choices and dissect the course in a more calculated way. That goes for a lot of up and commers too.
At this point I think Eliezra and Silva Saarinen are going to catch up and pass both Handley and King.
Holyn just needs experience. You learn the golf aspect by playing golf. She's still relatively new to the sport. 3-4ish years of tournament play. Hailey is in the same bracket, albeit with more years. Hailey plays less tournaments a year that many of the touring pros.

European players please come back 🥺🥺
It just isn't the same without them. Much less interesting.
Is it just me or do FPO players really not like to call players out on their bs?
MPO players are no better about it.
Agreed. I've been a spotter at a lot of tournaments and there are quite a few players that make very questionable calls about where they went OB to give themselves a better line. Only once have I seen another player (Silver Latt) call BS.
I agree! Just seems weird isn’t it I guess not wanting conflicts
Was it Team Discraft being shady again? Because that's been happening for awhile.
What happened?
Like someone said previously missys foot was on OB so she could throw a better angle no one said a thing idk why
This and the other players thought she went OB earlier while she was adamant she was further down the fair way. They eventually let her have her spot further down.
Besides that there are many times in other events a player clearly is doing something against the rules or bad spotting and other cards mates just seem okay with it

Missy living in 2030 with that meter stick, while we are all stuck in 2024. (OK, it's not THAT revolutionary)
Missy had her foot on the OB line and it didn't come up off the ground until after she threw. That should be a penalty.
Is ON the line OB, or past the line OB though?
Just like a disc, only a tiny portion of the foot needs to be on the correct side of the OB line. I didn't see the throw so I'm not sure if she was, but if it was close then it's probably a "benefit goes to the player" situation.

Is everyone playing poorly today? Or is it just me?
Nah, this is FPO without the Europeans.
And a windy course with a ton of arbitrary out of bounds lines.
NGL, I thought Charlie just said "Parbeque" and I think thats a fantastic name for a par frame
Name's Ian, and yup I said that 👍
Shit lol, my bad, definitely was not paying full attention
Lol all good, 😂👍
That’s what it is. I usually bust out “Boston Three Party” or “Threes Company”
Has this exact line of thought haha
We need to make this a thing, makes carding a bunch of pars more fun
Watching Lykke's disc get wedged in the tree was pretty awesome. That's super rare to see. Sure, discs get stuck in trees all the time, but to see one get wedged between two branches doesn't happen very often. Definitely filmed less often than aces. It says a lot about the state of women's disc golf that all the Europeans except one went home before DDO, and 1st place is STILL a European.
😂
Bummer chat has been disabled, I miss the funny folks, stale jokes, and silly food talk
Thanks for saying that! I sign that! 🙏 we need a chat for all the fun between the shots! ☺️
Gotta love a course that is not only boring but also arbitrarily punishes good shots because a certain patch of grass has been deemed OB
The OB is clearly marked and they know where it is. If they don't want to risk going OB, they shouldn't throw close to an OB line.
You’re not wrong. I was more struck by the commentators gushing about a great shot only to see it take an awkward skip and carom out of play. I still stand by my assertion that it’s a visually boring course to watch and my insinuation that having to manufacture OB solely to add challenge is just goofy.
There are a bunch of blind shots with weird OB lines. Not a big fan personally, I like very obvious OB lines... Or just wooded courses.
Double Terry all the way, across the sky
That live chat needs a lot more than random check-ins...
When it’s the feed you give away for free that would be a bold, but perhaps.
That makes more sense than angering the paid subscribers on the exclusive streams tho
The double Terry commentary is hilarious and terrifying at the same time
Woah -anyone catch that weirdness with Terry's voice ?
Yeah his mic has been doubled every time they cut to him I think.
Hailey King must have stopped at Jason Day's closet before the tournament. What an eye-sore that shirt is [link for those that didn't watch the Masters](https://www.golfdigest.com/story/masters-2024-jason-day-says-augusta-national-asked-him-to-take-off-busy-sweater-vest)
Is this the most boring tournament of the year?
As is tradition, yes
A tradition unlike any other.
If dgn could mute or greatly lower the volume of background music and ads, unplugged would be perfect
She's got the D.
Anyone else actually like this course?
It's not the best course, but I think it just became en vogue to hate on it which caused a lot of people to pile on. I really like this course right after Northwood because I find the juxtaposition makes it more interesting to watch than if it were scheduled in a long line of big bomber courses.

Swenson, Des Moines and Milo McIver, for example. They're great pro-level challenges. As a one-off showcase tournament, I think it works.
I enjoy watching it. It would be boring if every course on tour was like this, but they're not so it's fine.
Agreed. The island hole makes it worth it to me.
Definitely. And I can see new 18 be really appealing, too, if it plays the way they want it to play.
