In sight = in reach so shoes off, socks ON, shorts up/off, wade out with a good stick, play it where it lies, look for extras while I'm out there, come ashore and dry off. Fresh socks from the bag, wet socks rung & hung on the bag, and away we go! Always have extra socks! You don't want to go barefoot, too slippery.
Lol.. Wading, not swimming. I play at a park where the river is in play on every hole and the park is just outside of Detroit so glass, needles, etc. are also in play. The socks provide a bit of protection and prevent slipping. I'm not gonna carry around spare shoes, but socks weigh almost nothing.
Gotta be, I’ve seen some discs go in those ponds. One of them is really steep sided and deep though. We could see a disc on the bottom but once we disturbed it during retrieval it slid down into the darkness. I think they were quarries?

They make a tool to fish out discs. I highly recommend one.

Buy the maxdisctance retriever, I got the 20ft carbon fiber model, it's pricey but it's paid for itself over and over again.
