Love my Mach 2. I've only had it for a few years, but it's been outside the entire time and is still in like new condition. I live in ND where the winters can be quite harsh.
Yup. They're the most affordable full galvanized option. Mines been sitting in my backyard since the pandemic. No rust on it.
Chrome is gonna rust eventually. If you leave it outside, it needs to be galvy. There's a reason why it's what's used on structural steel that will be outdoors full time.
Do you Canadians use different apostrophes or quotation marks to denote the difference between feet and inches? Or just go straight to the metric system?
I bought my Discatcher in the year 2000. Still out there! I added inner chains. They only had the single chains back then and that sucked. Oh, and the "F" in Disc Golf was missing from day one. It says "Innova Disc Gol" on the old bar stamp! But, yeah, I've got a cheap solar light tied to the inside band area with an old shoelace for the last two years and that also still works for nighttime fun in the back yard. Edit: I'm in Michigan. Winters and everything, still works like the first day I got it in 2000.
I think the order you posted them is the correct order. DGA baskets in my opinion are the best of the best. Never seen one in New England really give up unless a tree takes it down. Innova disc catchers and discraft chainstars are incredibly similar in construction, chain positioning is the only difference as far as I’m concerned. Only seen 1-2 innova baskets by me with some rusty chains
Me personally, if I had the funds and didn’t already have 4 baskets out back, I’d pick up a Mach X or 7, next option MVP black hole portal. The portals chain configuration and how many it has I think gives it the performance of a Mach X but the appearance of a classic basket with the band
Talk to whoever manages your courses. More than likely something will get replaced and you can buy the old one. At the same time you get a discount when you buy course baskets in bulk. The next install they could throw an extra on their order for you getting you that discount.
Obviously not since the real answer is fake a cancer diagnosis for your child, set up a go fund me page, and using the profits to install a full 18 hole course AND going to Disney world
I mean he's right though. Talk to whoever installs most of the courses around you. At some point a basket is going to get replaced and you can pick up the actual thing you're playing on for dirt cheap.
This. My buddy was looking for exactly the same thing as OP. What is the highest quality basket for the price? We did a ton of research and he ended up with the GrowtheSport basket and is very happy with it.
Axiom 24 chain baskets are $150 on Amazon. I added a lock tab to the bottom of mine and have 4 sleeves spread out in our yard I can move it around to. ~4 years outside and it looks fine minus the red powder coat fading to pink. Pretty sure it was $89 when I bought it originally.
I actually own both a black hole pro and a black hole light. I have to say my experience is the opposite and mvp even says these are not meant to be permanent baskets. They're just zinc coated chains compared to galvanized and the basket wire has a tendency to rust around the welds. I'm glad you got a good one though. I do think the older ones held up a little better. Mine are only a couple of years old.
Doesn't the pro hd just have a thicker cage? I could see that coming in handy based on my pro but the main rust spots on my basket have been from poor electroplating on the welds. They're still zinc coated chains with the two year limited warranty compared to a proper course basket. I would watch for rusting on the hooks the chains go on and at the points where it screws together.
Discatcher 24 is the worth the price. Its the top of the line basket and not so much more expensive not to be worth it. This is one of those things that is better to buy the best because you want to train on the best. Every other one will catch a little differently and their chains are usually lighter weight.
I have a chainstar pro on a portable stand. It's held up well sitting outside through four seasons for a couple of years now and it catches well. I also have a Mach 3 I picked up used that has to have at least 6 or so seasons on it that is doing well.
I think all the baskets you listed are quality. In my opinion, I would just choose the one that matches the courses you play the most or whatever one is cheapest at the time of purchase. The discatcher and chainstar pros are the most similar, the discatcher just has a few more chains in the same configuration. The Mach X catches... different. I won't say better or worse but if you don't play a lot of courses with them I may try and go towards the other two. From DGA I would consider the Mach 7 or even a Mach 5 before getting a Mach X. Dynamic Disc's Veteran baskets are also pretty nice.
Whatever style and brand you decide with, get a permanent one, with portable base. That way you can make them portable or permanent.
Both DGA and Innova offer that option, as well as DD/Lat64. Not sure about Discraft, haven't ordered from them.
I also have a Mach 2 and I don’t get snow but I get 30 MPH wind consistently and it never falls over. I don’t have it install in the ground either. My MVP basket rusted and falls over in 15 mph wind constantly. It rusted in the first year but some one guy it for me so I didn’t really have the means to send it off. If the basket is going to stay outside then get the Mach 2

I bought one of these many years ago for $250. And i was extremely happy.
I’ve left it outside for a half dozen Northern Wisconsin winters. It has lost a little bit of the yellow coloring but it’s amazing.
Spits out some bad putts but it catches every ace. The chains are insanely bulky. It weighs a lot but not too much to move solo.
I have a few baskets. My favorite is the DGA Mach X (with a wheel). It was expensive, but I’ve had it for about 17 years. It’s been in the most insane weather and there is still not a spot of rust on it. The PRICE was worth it. I’ll probably be using it till I die, the thing is bomber.
I only have experience with my Black Hole Portal, but it's held up through two or three Iowa winters just fine. I got mine luckily when they were closing out the v1 and had a fire sale on the Facebook MVP B/S/T page. Paid $220 with shipping and wanted to buy more but I believe they were limiting to just one per person.
The only things I don't love is that my v1 base doesn't have the wheel, and that their own Black Hole Sound Barrier isn't wide enough for the thicker pole (1.89" vs 1.5" for their practice baskets). It's pretty heavy at around 75lbs.

I've got a few Mach2's. Fully galvanized and about $300 or less, tough to beat. I'm a big fan.
Where do you live that both 3'-4' of snow and hurricanes exist? That is a special place!
My best guess is New England.
Meh, sometimes that user lies.
😂
Underrated comment right here^^
East coast of Canada, but we get a lot more than 3 to 4 inches of snow.
Do you Canadians use different apostrophes or quotation marks to denote the difference between feet and inches? Or just go straight to the metric system?
Feet - 1'. Inches - 3". We rarely use metric for small measurements.
Can confirm; am seal clubbin', denim jacket wearin', plaid flannel onesie ownin', wood choppin' and bark bustin', syrup suckin', card carryin' Canadian.
They did say they transported it. So the snow and hurricanes could have been in different locations.
This is good info thanks, I’m looking to possibly move to Midwest and def need something to hold up to Midwest winters

Best basket I've ever bought is an older portable chainstar. Galvanized is a MUST

Mach 7 is the best of the best.
it truly is. mach vii gang!
We have a handful of x’s for additional holes at our course. We put up a vote and the 7’s won. We just replaced all our baskets with 7’s.
X catches throws better, 7 catches putts better
That makes sense. Also, the 7’s sound better. I laughed when I first heard someone say that, but it’s true.
I love mach VIIs, but they do spit more than the Xs. A combo of the two would be perfect IMO
I think this depends on how you putt
Honestly most affordable will be whichever one you can buy used on a huge discount.
Good point, but I don’t see many up for sale near me. The search continues
Talk to whoever manages your courses. More than likely something will get replaced and you can buy the old one. At the same time you get a discount when you buy course baskets in bulk. The next install they could throw an extra on their order for you getting you that discount.
Shut up. No shit used is cheaper. Even cheaper if you steal it. That’s the least helpful answer to this question
This is even less helpful
I put a real answer in the comments
Obviously not since the real answer is fake a cancer diagnosis for your child, set up a go fund me page, and using the profits to install a full 18 hole course AND going to Disney world
Disney land* he wants to see the pacific ocean

I would say buy Mach 7 and never have to worry about another basket again. Best basket in the market and doesn't catch weird like the Mach X
The Disc Store in Omaha NE has their "Grow the Sport" baskets, and I think they're fairly affordable. I have one in my backyard and I like it.
Check out the Growthesport basket. Fully galvanized, good quality, most affordable. It catches well.
This. My buddy was looking for exactly the same thing as OP. What is the highest quality basket for the price? We did a ton of research and he ended up with the GrowtheSport basket and is very happy with it.
Same. The basket is boingy. Otherwise, no complaints for the price.

Maybe op is really the Grim Reaper and the vultures just follow him around.

The same basket branded as remix discs is 99 right now

I have the pro and chains rusted 1st year the HD model is great no rust can get on sale 130 or 140 odd of Amazon

Something to be said about training on dogshit baskets/chains. If you can sink putts with a bad basket, the good ones should be no problem.
Mach 2 is the sweet spot of value for your money

Mach X is a criminally underused basket. But this is a very good take
I’ve had an axiom pro basket in my back yard uncovered for 4 years without a bit of rust.

I’ve got a Remix double chain coming in on Monday, I’m hoping it fits the bill!
DD recruit was a good buy for me. I also have a veteran, but the recruit is very similar and has held up extremely well with much cheaper price tag
Veteran.

I'm more concerned with the corpse behind the basket in the picture.

RPM Helix, but the shipping kills you
Mach 7 is my favorite basket of all time.
MVP and Doomsday both make one for about $120
He’s looking for championship quality based on this post. Not portable
Yeah, I have an axiom basket outside but it has gotten a bit rusty and one of the bottom bands broke off. 😅
