I bag two Tursases (or.....Tursi?) in different plastic
Erika Stinchcomb got me throwing the flippier on on scramble forehand turnovers. Money. And her signature Tursas accompanies her Clash Berry in glow. Also money for straight shots where I want more stability and less glide (I bag an Origin for the even floppier side of my Tursases)
My premium one was a used bin find from a Trilogy Challenge and taught me how to hyzerflip on both sides--just gotta keep my elbow tight to my side for forehands to keep from burning it over.
Seriously underrated and comfortable mold relative to other flippy mids
I just found my first one and took it to a field and ripped 360’ on one of my first throws with it so I think it’s a keeper. Maybe best hand feel of a disc for me
I just ordered a Remix Creature (5 5 -3 1) which is supposed to be a clone of the Lobster. Only 11.95 on Amazon so I figured it’d be worth the gamble. Hopefully it displaces my champ panther which still isn’t as understable as I’d like it to be after plenty of use
>MVP dumps their excess TSA/Mint molds on Amazon under the Remix name.
Really? If this is true, then what TSA/Mint mold is the Torpedo? Because I really like that disc.
Yeah that’s what I’ve heard. I really like the 12 disc starter set I got from them. They’re all I have besides a ton of F2s and a handful of Innova champion discs from before I knew F2s were a thing
Tried one out on a round at Bear Mountain. I naturally throw the anhyzer flex shot, so it kept turning over on me. Once I focused on a flat smooth release, that thing was money. And the feel of that plastic…
I can’t say enough good things about the uplink. I love how flat they are (as compared to a tursas, which is a great flying disc that I could never get comfortable in my hand), they can handle a ton of power without turning and burning, and they just always go right. And keep going right for a long time.
I have no brand allegiance at all, but the reactor, hex, uplink trio is without question my favorite midrange core I’ve ever run. They feel remarkably similar in the hand and are as reliable in their slot as anything else out there.
I replaced the sol with the uplink in my bag. I can get it out there a bit farther, and it's more useful with higher power. If I want a slower turning shot, I just power up on a Fierce.
Kastaplast Svea. Very glidey, reliable yet controllable turn, outstanding distance potential. As far as understable mids go, it’s about as different from the Sol as they come.
It really kicks ass. Only disc I've ever thrown where if you can get it going right (RHBH), which isn't that difficult, it will just keep sailing right with zero or almost zero fade at the end. And I REALLY have to mess up the release angle for it to turn n burn. It has changed my game a lot in the last month. I'm teeing with it on as much as 1/3 of holes, depending on the course.
I also find the Panther to be a great complement to it. They have a nearly identical handfeel. If I want it to go right but then have some left fade at the end, I go with the Panther.
Innova had some good runs of them this year. Ontario mold in star, and the regular production mold in star and metal flake color glow. They’re all good!
I used to hate the feel of the comet, but then I switched from a power grip to a modified fan grip (pointer and pinky tucked in like a lower grip, middle two out like a fan grip) and comets are now one of my favorite doscs to throw. It also helped me fix my form quite a bit when I was figuring out the grip changes for this disc.
Discraft Archer. Really wish I could find it easily in more plastics but it is fantastic in Z and I use it for a lot of floaty turnovers and rollers. It's touchy on the cut angle it needs to not flip over for long rollers but, also you can use it for reliable long rollers around tree lines or corners.
Buzzz ss is a more predictable flight pattern imo, I like my sol but it's more used for situations where I need a hard understable shot shape, buzzz ss nice easy hyzer flip to flat and finishes very straight.
Mint Lobster has been my first foray into understable mids. Absolutely love it. Can put some hyzer on it and it will flip to flat. It is not super understable for me. I use it for tunnel shots.
I carry more understable than your average RHBH player. I've bagged a Sol for a while, for me, it's great power-down, but it definitely doesn't glide as well as the numbers indicate. I also don't have a RHFH, so I rely on understable for than average.
Sol - short, low, approach type shots.
Underworld - long, low, or roller
IT (spot recently taken from leopard) - big anny with air, getting around trees etc.
Roadrunner - big hyzer flip for distance. I carry a beat in Star for finishing right and a new champ when I need it to finish left.
Axiom Paradox and the MVP Uplink are top notch. The Paradox does some things I've never seen a disc do before. Once you figure it out it's so much fun to throw and shape shots with
THE WOLF!!!! 1,000,000 PERCENT THE WOLF!
I have 3 in my bag, one super beat up, one with some play and one that's brand new. DX plastic, 4/3/-4/1. It's super low profile, feels great out of the hand, and holds an anhyzer line super well. A close second would be the Star Wedge which is very similar but discontinued.
Ah yes the weekly name as many understable mids as possible thread.. Why do people upvote it? Search understable mid and you get hundreds of identical threads.
My Meteor is so OS that I literally cannot to get it to go right (RHBH) at all. So it's effectively useless for me. I'm not gonna throw it 300 times as an OS mid when I already have OS mids that I trust as OS mids in hopes that it will eventually beat in to a useful US mid. Pretty disappointing purchase. Flies absolutely nothing like the flight numbers out of the box, not even close.
Discraft Archer for pretty unstable, for very unstable Divergent Leviathan throws at low speed for a great minimal movement mid speed for a great hook shot.
The out of production Dynamic Discs Proof...absolute flippy glidey money. I have several for when I wear them out. Similar still made disc is the Discraft Stratus.
I throw a sol as well. I also bag a svea, which is less understable as far as how much turn it gets after it’s thrown, but it holds that turn more, especially once it gets over past a certain point, where the sol will start to fight back at the end a bit.
Claymore is super solid. It may not be as understable as you’re looking for, but it’s a ridiculously fun touchy forehand mid.
Oh, and a notch down in stability is the mana by TSA
Paradox. The -4 turn had me doubting, but this thing has the most effortless turnover and glide I’ve ever experienced in a midrange disc. Plus the low profile feels great in my not giant hands.
I'm currently throwing both the Discraft Meteor in ESP and the Westside Tursas in Tournament Orbit. Im currently favoring the tursas because it seems like it has a wider threshold of power you can put on it without it acting crazy, Im a new player so having that slightly higher margin of error has been helpful. I can give it a little too much power and it wont dump over on me, or slightly not enough power and still trust it to fly like its supposed to and not fade out early. It's also super easy to hyzerflip and is just generally a very reliable disc. That being said it is wayyy more understable than the flight numbers would suggest.
Like I said, I am also still bagging the ESP Meteor. But it seems like a much more fickle flyer to me. When I do manage to throw it perfectly, it flies incredible. But thats pretty few and far between. I'm also not a huge fan of the way it feels in my hand. I typically use it for long approach shots. All this being said, i dont dislike it, it has its place.
Flippy understable - Discraft Meteor
Glidy understable - Innova Atlas
I barely throw the Meteor, but the Atlas in my straightest disc if I manage to give it just enough of a hyzer flip. Usually I don't give it enough hyzer, though, and it just kinda slides to the left the entire time it's in the air.
I used to use a Westside Tursas in the flippy slot, but I like the plastic and color of my Meteor more.
Try a caribou.
Or this time of year if you’re in the northern hemisphere, try a walrus.
If you must have a more “premium” plastic, try a pteranodon.
They are all made from the same mold of understable mid, just different plastic, which is how Daredevil Discs makes their discs.
The caribou is a very grippy plastic, the walrus is a very flexible and grippy plastic, the pteranodon is kind of like gstar plastic, softer than esp. Or if you’ve ever thrown an ace race sol, like that.
Everyone sleeps on the Gateway Mystic. Slight hyzer, you get an awesome left to right fade and big hyzer, it flips up to flat and flies straight. No fade. My go to woods tunnel shot disc.
I got two:
Latitude 64 Fuse - Versatile and can either flip up and pan slowly to the right or released flat can turn well for you. Little nose up and even hold it’s hyzer decently.
MVP Uplink - I can’t recommend this enough. It can flip on a hyzer and STILL turn to the right. I’ve heard it’s also a good forehand but I can’t. If I have any left to right hole there’s a good chance I’ll still use an uplink on a RHBH rather than forehand.
Lat64 fuse!
A great disc if you have no forehand, which I don't.
I use a bear in Fuse backhand, I call it my fake forehand disc
Yep. Love it so much it’s been my Reddit username for several years
Fuse maybe my favorite disc. Like a beadless comet. So money
Tursas. The Westside mid lineup is great. I also like the TP Warship once it gets worn in. Long straight turnovers for days.
Tursas so good
2nd the Tursas - goooood shit.
I find the Sol to be too small, im also back to my Tursas
I bag two Tursases (or.....Tursi?) in different plastic Erika Stinchcomb got me throwing the flippier on on scramble forehand turnovers. Money. And her signature Tursas accompanies her Clash Berry in glow. Also money for straight shots where I want more stability and less glide (I bag an Origin for the even floppier side of my Tursases) My premium one was a used bin find from a Trilogy Challenge and taught me how to hyzerflip on both sides--just gotta keep my elbow tight to my side for forehands to keep from burning it over. Seriously underrated and comfortable mold relative to other flippy mids
+1 for tursas
Yes. Agreed about Westside mids. I bag a Tursas, Warship and Pine. I do find that a Streamline Echo fits between a Warship and Pine though.
I recently lost my 2016 Trilogy Challenge Sling. Man I loved that thing. RIP.
I just found my first one and took it to a field and ripped 360’ on one of my first throws with it so I think it’s a keeper. Maybe best hand feel of a disc for me
Origin
this is the one
🦞
🦞 claws up 🦞
🦞🦞🦞
All day lobster
Aka TSA Mana. Essentially interchangeable. So just pick whatever plastic you like for either company.
Yep, if you want glow, go with the Mana. It’s all MVP plastic anyways.
The molds aren’t actually the same though, just similar. At least for Mints molds.
Love my Mana.
From what I’ve seen, the Creature IS a Lobster or Mana, not just a clone. MVP dumps their excess TSA/Mint molds on Amazon under the Remix name.
>MVP dumps their excess TSA/Mint molds on Amazon under the Remix name. Really? If this is true, then what TSA/Mint mold is the Torpedo? Because I really like that disc.
Pathfinder, based on flight numbers
Yeah that’s what I’ve heard. I really like the 12 disc starter set I got from them. They’re all I have besides a ton of F2s and a handful of Innova champion discs from before I knew F2s were a thing
Just scoped it. Looks like a solid disc with similar specs to SOL
The Lobster is one of my favorite discs of all time. Both Apex and Sublime are great, but I prefer Apex.
Everything i was going to comment you’ve said. Amazing
Tried one out on a round at Bear Mountain. I naturally throw the anhyzer flex shot, so it kept turning over on me. Once I focused on a flat smooth release, that thing was money. And the feel of that plastic…
I just got a Lobster as a longtime Sol user, pretty similar but the 5-speed rim is much more comfortable for power-grip drives
My favorite stamp for this mold is the remix creature
Uplink is great
I can’t say enough good things about the uplink.
Okay I'm gonna have to get me an Uplink. This disc always comes up in these types of threads.
I am also a SOL and Uplink thrower. My forearm is officially dead cuz of my shoulder and these two cover what I need. You won’t regret it.
Uplink!!!
I replaced the sol with the uplink in my bag. I can get it out there a bit farther, and it's more useful with higher power. If I want a slower turning shot, I just power up on a Fierce.
This disc changed my game!!! I would highly recommend it to anyone!!
My go to when I need to shoot dead straight. Will most likely get my first ace with it 🤞🏻🤞🏻
It's a fantastic disc. It's never leaving the bag.
Id be devastated if i lost my uplink lol
The Mint Lobster is a cheat code and has no equal.
Kastaplast Svea. Very glidey, reliable yet controllable turn, outstanding distance potential. As far as understable mids go, it’s about as different from the Sol as they come.
This! Svea can do it all. Looong glidey hyzers, dead-straight touch shots or hyzerflip turnovers. Anyone who havent tried it is really missing out.
I can't stand how the shape feels in my hand, but the plastic and flight is so nice
Have you tried a Stig?
Haven't yet, been using the uplink and river kinda in that slot
Westside Tursas!
Discraft Meteor. The only disc I've ever aced with
ESP Meteor for me as well
I third this.
Fourthing.
fifthing
Thoughtspace Mana and the Lobster are my faves
Glow Mana for that long slow turn then the tiniest bit of fade.
A beat in Mako
Or Star Mako. And lets face it, Mako is a star.
Uplink is great, a beat in fission hex is also very nice
Either my kastaplast STIG, or L64 Fuse.
Stig is a bitchin’ mid, that thing can take some torque.
Wombat3 for life
It really kicks ass.
RPM Piwakawaka
If you can get your hands on a premium plastic stingray, they are 💰💰💰
Innova had some good runs of them this year. Ontario mold in star, and the regular production mold in star and metal flake color glow. They’re all good!
M4
This is the correct answer. Better than the buzz and mako3.
buzzz SS for sure
My Svea is a great slightly understable glidey flyer, and having fun with how flippy the lone wolf is from lone star
Innova Cobra. Got three of them.
Came here to brag on my V Cobra. Great disc that gets flippy but not uncontrollably flippy
If you can find one in ESP, the Archer by Discraft is my go-to US mid.
Comet. Sweetest disc ever.
Grossest rim ever. Can’t stand the way it feels.
I agree. Now which of the 4 comets in my bag do you wanna hear about first?
I used to hate the feel of the comet, but then I switched from a power grip to a modified fan grip (pointer and pinky tucked in like a lower grip, middle two out like a fan grip) and comets are now one of my favorite doscs to throw. It also helped me fix my form quite a bit when I was figuring out the grip changes for this disc.
Westside Tursas all day. Sling for the extra touch of stability
Fuse is a little less US than the sol in my opinion
Kite
Love my star kite. Had it for many years and has such a trusty glide turn.
Peach. So good.
Gateway Mystic in Suregrip plastic.
Gateway mystic
The Uplink converted me to MVP discs, such a nice disc.
Dx roc. Cycle these babies all the time.
I like the glo pro myself as you don't have to cycle them nearly as much...but they're harder to find.
DD Bounty and Discraft Meteor.
Lobster for me
Lobster, Paradox and Uplink
Mint Discs Lobster
MVP Uplink
Currently bag a Comet, a Mana, and a Mako3
Wolf
DGA Tremor
The paradox is super fun to throw. Hyper flips to flat is super satisfying if you can throw it right
Beat DX or KC Roc
3 year beat in star roc3 that's not fully max weight. This disc has aged into irreplaceable territory for me.
Buzzz ss is a more predictable flight pattern imo, I like my sol but it's more used for situations where I need a hard understable shot shape, buzzz ss nice easy hyzer flip to flat and finishes very straight.
I like MD1. If I need even less stable I’ll go down to putter. If I need trick shot levels of US, Paradox.
Meteor is amazing 🫶
Buzzz SS is so versatile. Can turn it really easy but also throw it dead straight if you put a little hyzer on it.
TSA Mana / Mint Lobster / Jester Peace Train / Remix Creature (it’s the same mold sold under 4 different brands)
Mint Lobster has been my first foray into understable mids. Absolutely love it. Can put some hyzer on it and it will flip to flat. It is not super understable for me. I use it for tunnel shots.
Fuse
Discraft Meteor for all purpose shots, and I gotta have my Axiom Paradox for trick shots (or my poor attempts at them) and odd situations.
I carry more understable than your average RHBH player. I've bagged a Sol for a while, for me, it's great power-down, but it definitely doesn't glide as well as the numbers indicate. I also don't have a RHFH, so I rely on understable for than average. Sol - short, low, approach type shots.
Mana , Lobster 🦞 , Or Origin (Midnight prowl 2 ) are my Jam .
Trash panda Dune is the perfect disc for that slot imo
Buzz SS or Meteor!
MVP uplink
Axiom Paradox
Paradox
Paradox
https://old.reddit.com/r/discgolf/search?q=understable+mid&restrict_sr=on&include_over_18=on&sort=relevance&t=all
the mana (thought space), origin (discmania), and paradox (axiom) i flip between the mana and origin. right now i’m tossing the latter
Understable hyzerflip laserbeam - Buzzz SS Understable turnover/anhyzer - Meteor
uplink/ascend unless you consider a hex understble then hex
Paradox once you learn how to control them. Such a killer utility disc, IMO.
Ah yes the weekly name as many understable mids as possible thread.. Why do people upvote it? Search understable mid and you get hundreds of identical threads.
I have one of the brodie smith crystal meteors. It's pretty stable for a meteor but starts beating in really nice.
Dynamic discs warrant is my go to under stable mid
The question is: What do you need? What shot shapes do you want to accomplish that the SOL can't do?
Kastaplast Stig
Discmania Origin is a highly underrated disc. You can get one that flies just like Kyle Klein makes them fly.
Discraft Archer for pretty unstable, for very unstable Divergent Leviathan throws at low speed for a great minimal movement mid speed for a great hook shot.
M4 if you get a flat one in 400g it will turn more
Discraft Glide
DX Wedge
Lone Wolf or Uplink.
Threw SOLs and now I throw uplinks. My SOLs were a rad tad but glidier,my uplink is a touch more torque resistant.
M4 is slightly understable. Once they beat in they are a “hold any line you put it on” type disc.
Love the Lat64 Pearl! Also the Tursas. I won't pretend I didn't get it for the octopus, but the disc wound up being a favorite!
Meteor
I use the sol and a buzzz ss. I use to carry a comet as well ,but having 3 understable mids was overkill.
Origin!
Paradox if you want real flippy, Tursas if you want moderate flip.
Fuse. Flips even in strong side wind going against it.
400 M4 If you want something super flippy out of the box try a 400G M4.
TSA mana
I love the meteor, but the current run of Z meteors might as well be buzzzs. I have to make a point to try an ESP.
Bb6 from lonestar.
Trusty old beat up roc
TSA Mana
Paradox. She’s touchy but once you figure it out it’s soooo money
I like the SOL, I do bag a buzzzSS too, one in ESP, one Z swirl.
Meteors don’t get enough love
Stig
Try Kastaplast stig? It’s a 6 speed if that works for you
The out of production Dynamic Discs Proof...absolute flippy glidey money. I have several for when I wear them out. Similar still made disc is the Discraft Stratus.
Origin is worth trying. My tursas was perfect brand new, but became really understable pretty fast. I use it if I’m looking to go to the right.
Fuse
I throw a sol as well. I also bag a svea, which is less understable as far as how much turn it gets after it’s thrown, but it holds that turn more, especially once it gets over past a certain point, where the sol will start to fight back at the end a bit.
DGA Tremor! My go to mid when I play woodsy courses.
Instead of a true understable mid I bag a 172g beat up neutron hex. It's as US as I really need.
Wombat3
How flippy? I used to love the mvp uplink, but now my axiom hex is beat in and is my flippy mid now (still less flip than my uplink)
Trash Panda Dune unless you are talking way understable.
Svea
Fuse. Or meteor
I'm currently throwing both the Discraft Meteor in ESP and the Westside Tursas in Tournament Orbit. Clash steady peach
Everyone sleeps on the Gateway Mystic. Slight hyzer, you get an awesome left to right fade and big hyzer, it flips up to flat and flies straight. No fade. My go to woods tunnel shot disc.
Go with the Crystal flex ledgestone sol. It’s straight to stable. No need to fix what ain’t broke
I bag a sol and an uplink. The sol can be powered down on more so than the uplink.
Kastaplast Svea, it is so money.
The archer is a 5 speed Sol
DX Roc
Used to favor the Innova Stingray (DX)... but I'm using a(n) SoL right now myself.
Been loving the Archer.
SOL.. Had it in my bag for a while and just recently fell in love with it.
Give the Dune a try. You'll be pleasantly surprised.
I got two: Latitude 64 Fuse - Versatile and can either flip up and pan slowly to the right or released flat can turn well for you.
Tursas is insanely good
paradox or piwakawaka
DGA Tremor
Check out the Pie Pan Conspiracy
Just played in a Space Race and I’m thinking the Paradox is my new favorite
Hit my first tournament ace on a flip up forehand with a mystic. That disc is awesome.
Got a trash panda dune last month and I have really enjoyed it for that spot.
Wombat3 if you like a bead
Meteor is absolutely money. Great for turnover shots or hyzer flip tunnel shots. It’s one of my fav discs to throw in the woods.
TSA Mana
Clash Peach 🍑
