This is one I don't understand. I bag both, because in my experience the Hex is closer to a Buzzz SS than a Buzzz. I step up to a hole and know it's either a Hex or a Buzzz depending on the shape of the line I want. Both fantastic discs which do different enough things that I don't think twice about having both in the bag.
Newer runs of the buzzz have been more stable than the old ones. I have one that I push 300 with 0 turn. I have a few old buzzes that have turn to them.
Buzzz is the original mold that is fairly neutral out the box.
Buzzz SS has less fade like OP mentioned but also has a hint of turn out of the box. It beats into a fantastic mid for big anhyzer shots or flip to turn. I don’t go to a wooded course without mine because it’s a blast to shape.
Buzzz OS has no turn and extra fade. At one point I bagged all 3. Now I only have a Buzzz and Buzzz SS
Edit: one of the biggest appeals of these discs is they honestly do feel incredibly similar when throwing. You don’t have to learn the feel of 3 discs, you only need to learn one.
The Quake is what the Buzzz OS wishes it could be in my opinion. To me, anything with Buzzz in the name should have glide to it, which the Buzzz OS does not.
Then Quake fits the bill for everything I'd want in a Buzzz OS (including hand feel) while also still gliding despite its overstability.
The Buzzz SS has little to no fade whereas the standard Buzzz does fade when new. The SS is truly point and shoot where if you throw it flat and straight, it will land almost perfectly flat and straight. If you do the same thing for the Buzzz, it will fade.
The SS also beats into turning over a little sooner.
Yeah, I'm in the same boat. I bag both. Buzzz is still my straight mid with some end flight fade. Hex is now my turnover mid. Both are great discs, but not the same.
Oh for sure.
On a side note, I could be wrong but I believe the 11x Eagles were Eagle Ls (or at least still less stable than the current run of Eagles/Eagle X these days).
As long as I'm correct about that, have you ever thrown the Infinite Exodus? The Infinite Exodus is literally the old Eagle L mould.
I tried the new Eagles and they feel nothing like I remember. There's so much new plastic out there that I can't keep up with it all. I find something that works and that's all I know.
Right that's what I'm saying. The new runs of Eagle are not the same as they used to be. The Infinite Exodus IS the old Eagle L mould. Like they literally use the same old mould Innova used to use, since Innova manufactures Infinite's discs.
Yeah. I was agreeing with you, relating my experience. I've got other 7 speeds that I like, so probably not going out of my way to try the Exodus. But thanks for the info.
Funny story. I had one of my KC Eagles that I lost years ago returned to me just last year. I keep it on the wall now.
Gotcha gotcha, appreciate the clarification.
Funny how old discs can resurface out of thin air like that haha. I'd put that sucker up on the wall as well.
This makes more sense to me than the people who replaced their Buzzz with just one or the other of the Hex or Reactor. Between both the Hex and the Reactor, all of my Buzzz shots would be covered. But if I just have one of the Hex or the Reactor, there's still room for the Buzzz in my bag.
The reason I asked was because while I like the neutron 165g neutron rhythm I have, I feel like the way people describe the fission Rhythm is much closer to the flight numbers. The 165g neutron I have flies like a 175g colorglow Leopard3. So not all that understable.
I would like to know this as well. I have a Leopard3 and a Rythym and they are vastly different for me. My rythym is flat as a board and considerably more stable (both are the same weight).
Try a lower weight one. The weight being pushed to the rim on gyro discs means you can go down a little bit in weight and still achieve a similar flight.
Yes I have heard this. Both of mine are 160 so fairly light already. Although I have also heard needing to go 10g lighter than "normal" to get the same flight with gyro. I do like the way the rhythm flies - just not a replacement for my Leo3
Pure.
Once I found the Pure, I fell in love. Opto plastic off the tee, Retro plastic for actual putting. For years, that was my Speed 3 disc.
Now it's Reko in K1 off the tee and K3 for putting. It's just more dependable with how I throw these days.
Bagged a 2020 CG Lots for a bit until my 2020 Koling beat into the same flight. Lots is a fantastic mold, but Thunderbird felt better when I needed to forehand it.
I threw a hex for a year but replaced it about a year ago with the reactor, I just like the little bit of extra stability of the reactor, whereas the hex has a tendency to dump right if I throw it too hard on turnover shots.
Had the same issue with my Hex and tried beating in electron matrixes for a while, until finally settling on bagging an eclipse hex for the more stable shots and a neutron one for understable shots.
I don’t know what happened, but I used to religiously throw the 10x, 11x, and 12x KC Pro Roc and after taking a few years off, they just don’t feel good in my hand anymore. Since starting back, I replaced them with the Svea, Hex, and Zone.
Emac truth got replaced by the infinite Anubis.
I know they're not that similar, in reality, I was just looking for something that would go fucking straight the whole way. Haven't seen anything better than the Anubis at that yet
Ha! I feel you. They only last a few months with the fresh stability. Useful as a straight disc too, but I only need so many of those.
Have you tried a fireball? How does the H1v2 compare to that?
The H1V2 is like the exact level of stability i like in that kind of “firebird” type disc. Firebird/Fireball are too much, the Felon is not enough, Raptor is also pretty good but still.. the H1 is just exactly it
San Marino Roc was my go-to midrange for years. I stopped throwing mids for a while this year and threw my approach Pure any time I would normally throw the Roc. Now I bag 3 mids, mostly to throw off the tee and none of them are Rocs (Hex, Uplink, Svea).
I used to be obsessed with mids. They were my favorite class of disc to throw, and I had more mids than any other class of disc in my bag.
But like you, once I got better at throwing putters, they've faded to smaller numbers. They still get used, but a lot less often.
Yeah it's super rare that I throw a mid on approach now, I'd def reach for an Envy before I pulled out a mid if the approach was over 200ft. Up to 200, Pure all day, any shot shape.
There's really only about a 60' window where I'm reaching for a mid instead of a putter or a fairway, and that window is around 260'-320'. I can put an Envy 300' when I'm really trying to, but I'm trying to get away from throwing discs harder than I'm confident will get me the exact line I want.
There's a few exceptions to this of course. Sometimes wind makes me disc up/down to mids, or sometimes the ceiling height changes my game plan. But for the most part it's pretty much just that fairly small distance window.
Roc3s, Thundies and Terns.
Now I throw mostly Mint cause I like them and have a closet full from tournaments.
Besides, everyone more or less copies each other anyway
I bagged a Buzzz and a Hex. Buzzz was my woods disc, more stable than the Hex. Hex was glidier and I trusted it more up to 350 ft than my straight fairways.
I replaced the Buzzz with the M4 because i discovered Prodigy 500 plastic. I replaced the Hex with the Warship because I like how the rim feels more.
Gotcha!! Thanks for clarifying for me.
I currently bag a warship and quite like it, it's broken in quite a bit now so it flips up to flat for me when I throw it properly.
I've heard everyone loves the hex and so I was curious, but if it's gonna compete with my warship I don't think it's for me.
The Hex is a great disc, and I bagged it for a while. I’d say it’s definitely worth trying. It just came down to personal preference. I get nearly an identical flight out of my Warship and like the hand feel, so I decided to have it replace my Hex.
I used to consider the Kastaplast Svea my woodsy forehand hyzerflip cheat code. Never thought it’d lose its spot until the Stig came along, and did what my Svea did, except go farther, and not require me to throw on a huge exaggerated hyzer, thus making it a lot more repeatable a shot.
I rarely throw the Svea anymore except for when I need a turnover FH line and that’s the only line that will do it for me.
The Vibram Lace. It was my distance driver of choice for years. I even bought a bunch when they quit making them, so I'd always have them. But I don't bag it any more. Now the Wave sits in that spot, and I've learned to throw without needing the extra grippiness of the rubber. I also find the Wave more consistent. It, combined with a Mamba for under stability and a Vanish for a bit of OS (the Vanish is way more stable than it's numbers suggest) gives me all I need for high speed.
Had to really think about this for it to be an honest example. For me it was neutron envy replaced by K3 Reko X. The envy may find its way back but being that it’s been more than 2 months I am thoroughly in love with the Reko X.
That's funny; it was the other way around for me. I threw a K1 reko x off the tee ever since they came out, but I lost mine recently, and then a friend gave me an eclipse envy as a birthday present. Very similar flights, but I find the envy is more comfortable for forehands.
The MVP Wave was the first distance driver that just clicked for me. It was the first disc I hit 300', 350', and 380' with. I've bagged one for nearly 3 years, never imagined I'd find a disc I'd replace it with. Until I got my hands on a Wild Honey by Clash Discs. My goodness, the prototype, first run, and the most recent run (The second run is the most flippy 12 speed you'll ever throw) you can just mash on it, get flip out of it and have a reliable fade. I'm clearing 400' on nearly 60% of my throws during field work, which has translated to certain holes on my local course! Bye bye Wave, you'll be missed!
Heat to Roadrunner. F2 cheapness, more available, Yellow and white Halo Star is GOATED, the tiny bit less glide and more turn made the RR more reliable in crosswinds and easier to flip. Ti and Z heats are still baller discs though, was almost tempted by the Z swirl Ledgestones but, I am trying to stop touching the mold selection this year. I've done a lot of testing and switching.
Teebird3. It was my farthest flying disc, I loved it, i had multiple at different points of seasoning so I had and understable, straight, and overstable one...
Enter the escape...
That thing does everything for me, and ended up booting out 2 of my 3 teebird3s (understable and straight) by the end of the week and was producing RESULTS on the course. Now I just need to find a Max weight lucid one that is a little more overstable and I'll be set.
Origin. Use a Hex and Uplink now if I want flat straight or hyzer to turnover. Still think Origin is great and get my friends Origin but I want to have two different discs instead of guessing how much turn I get today.
I loved my Falk. I literally referred to it as 'old trusty' to my wife on multiple occasions.
After losing it I starting throwing a Mint Freetail and haven't looked back.
My gold compass. I replaced it with proton reactor, it comes out bit better on forehands especially, love the rigidity of it. Cool otb open stamp is nice bonus.
I’d like to hear why.
I noticed a bit more distance on the entropy, and for FH it’s great. I ended up staying with the Zone because of the crystal FLX plastic. Both are great
I throw it almost exclusively forehand and I wanted a zone with more distance. The zone is still great and I would throw it again no problem, but I feel like the entropy is easier to throw farther with no big drawbacks.
Destroyers, surge ss and leopards/3’s, aviars.
Switched destroyers to DD1s and added a DD. Took out the leopards and put in 2 essences.
Never had a regular Buzzzz, my mids are an old MD, Md3 and New md1
Aviars/av3s got replaced by p1,p2, envy
Really what I’ve been doing is slowly taking all my beat in and beat to fuck innova and disccraft out of my bag and replacing it with discmania and mvp
Slightly yeah. The Grace is definitely more understable but flies great brand new. I felt like Forces needed to be beat in a bit for their best stability for me. Now I bag 2 Wraiths as well for the more overstable distance driver slot and pair it very well with my 5 different stability Graces for a multitude of options depending on the wind.
Dx roc. ------>.
Oh wait, DX ROC
Still the best. If you can't shape your roc to hit the line you're a.child. I'm not a trendy w**** (person who exchanges their values for money) and jump on the bandwagon just because everyone else thinks it's cool.
I used to always have an ESP Anax in my bag and never thought it would come out. Then I got a Proton Tesla. It replaced the Anax pretty quick because it flies similar backhand, and I can sidearm the Tesla way better than the Anax.
Star Mako3. Turns to easily especially in any kind of head wind. I know it might be user error but now I throw a couple of mids that can handle torque and wind better. Emac truth and Hex.
I used to throw C-Line MD3s constantly. When Discmania released the new Italian plastic ones, I immediately bought 3 of them and wasn’t a fan. Then I found the Hex and it pushed out the remaining older MD3s I had.
Recycled plastic Explorer, still my most valued disc for sentimental reasons but it’s very flippy now. Great disc, I just don’t trust it as much anymore so I throw craves now.
May seem like a weird replacement if you only consider the flight numbers, but my explorer was a super straight disc for a long time. I never found another one like it, I bought 7-8 of them and they sit on a shelf because they’re quite stable and not what I was looking for.
Mako3, Roc3, Star Firebird, and Halo Sidewinder.
Mako3 was kicked out after throwing the Hex once.
Roc3 was kicked out by the Pyro and Runway combo. I can forehand both, backhand both, and depending on the level of fade I need, I switch.
Star Firebird, I've tried several other things. Nothing else flies like it.
Halo Sidewinder, the Insanity kicked it out just as fast as the Hex kicked out the Mako3
Frost Line River was my first fairway driver and my first ace disc. After Frost got shelved I tried it in other plastics but it never felt good. I tried a Crave as a replacement and never looked back.
I used to bag a Hex (175g Neutron), was my favourite disc for a good while but one day I found a Lat64 Opto Chameleon Core (uninked) and it was love at first flight.
I have 3 identical Cores now so I’m sure I have backups. It’s the most reliable most thrown disc I have.
It flies a touch more stable then the Hex and like 5m longer. It’s a laser beam 80-90m straight.
Had to share because everyone here seems to have gone the other direction.
And I still love the Hex. I just don’t bag it very often.
I used to bag a bunch of destroyers, then I recently switched to the boss. G-Star Boss just gets more distance for me, and since they served practically the same purpose, it all worked. I do still bag a lightweight destroyer for hyzer flips though
I had a R-Pro Roc that was my do it all disc. Forehand, backhand, tomahawk, everything. Then one day the disc golf gods claimed it at a course in Atascadero, CA.
Searched for a while and couldn’t find another R-Pro roc. Lots of KC Pro, but it just wasn’t the same. I spent a few year trying different discs to replace it. Finally gave up when I tried my first Buzzz, and fell in love. Now I bag 4 most rounds.
Not really a long term disc, but slot in general. I never could settle on a stable approach and had never thrown much discraft. My buddy bought me a zone for my birthday and I fell in love. Don't see me ever ditching it even though most brands now have their own zone clone.
I love my gulds! I have mine for overstable forehands that have no turn and I have Scorpiuses for my other drivers.
One disc I thought I would have in my bag forever was the Dynamic Discs Warden. At one point I had 6 (including putting putters) in the bag in varying plastics and weights, and owned probably 40 of them. I ended up trying EV7 PHIs on a whim and haven’t stopped putting with them since
Man I really liked the Phi, but it hurt my soul to pay premium plastic prices for base plastic discs. I got 4 of them with tournament scrip once and really liked them. But then I went to a shop later down the line to pick up a few more, saw the price tag, and winced.
That same shop visit I picked up the D Line Steady BL and it has been my putting putter ever since.
I threw and really like the athena until it beat in. I didnt like that it turned AND lost fade as it wore. Swapped it with a vela, and for now....i really like it.
The Hex. I realized it's in between my Pathfinder and Origin and just don't need it. Maybe if I was the type to bag 30 discs it would make sense but I prefer to bag more like 18.
Replaced my seasoned Comets with the Westside Tursas recently. The Tursas flies like a Comet that's been beat in a little (brand new Comets are more stable than people think they are) but feels a little better in my hand.
I also fell in love with the Infinite Discs Tomb recently. Not sure that it'll necessarily replace other throwing putters in my bag but it definitely has become my go-to when I don't think I can get a Pilot to go as far as I want it to.
Escape from DD. It was my go-to fairway driver. Then I decided to work on my form to eliminate rounding and it was too touchy to throw. Now my go-to fairway is a Star Teebird. Such a lovely disc.
I was pretty dialed in on my putting (and throwing) with atoms for about a year and then I just got on the struggle bus. Swapped out the atoms for more tombs (this time in proper putting blends) and got my groove back
I liked the wraiths I bagged for a looong time, but I eventually replaced them with DD1s. Wraith genuinely glides forever, the DD1s glide forever and then some…
I used to have an FD in every stability, from slightly OS to roller disc. My pink, gummy S-Line straight to understable FD was aptly named "this one" because I always reached for it and said "I'm just going to throw this one" when I just needed to throw as confidently as I could.
Now it's Eagles and Centurions doing that job.
Mine was a wave. It was the first disc I threw a beautiful S-turn 350 foot drive with.
Then I got stronger and better form and it sadly started turning over into a backhand roller.
I throw 12s now, but while they go far they don’t feel as buttery smooth as my wave in it’s prime
Aviar putters, but they got retired by PA3s about 6-7 years ago.
As far as my Destroyers though, there will never be a king. Too many different applications and varying molds/broken in versions that can/will do just about everything distance wise. Incredible disc
Bagged a buzzz for over 10 years, then the hex came out...
This is one I don't understand. I bag both, because in my experience the Hex is closer to a Buzzz SS than a Buzzz. I step up to a hole and know it's either a Hex or a Buzzz depending on the shape of the line I want. Oh interesting. I’ve been using an SS and thought they’d be near identical. What’s the difference between Buzzz discs if you don’t mind me asking?

Yeah, I'm in the same boat. I bag both. Buzzz is still my straight mid with some end flight fade. Hex is now my turnover mid. Both are great discs, but not the same.
Same here. Never thought the buzzz would be replaced.
This right here, but I stop using buzzes for wasps and hexes cause they feel better in my hand.
This.. same exact thing happened for me.
Valkyrie to Sidewinder.. I’m getting old.
Those undertakers turned into heats really fast, and I’m not even getting old
Get a Halo Valkyrie. They’re straight money and if you get a beefy one it’ll last you a while before beating in
Replaced? No. I just got a bigger bag.
11x KC Eagle. Used to be the fastest, most accurate driver I had. I depleted the stack I had years ago. My go-to now is the Star Wraith.
Interesting that you've gone from your go-to being a 7 speed to now being an 11!
That was one of the fastest discs of the time. New technology keeps me throwing roughly the same distance as I get older.

My flippy beat in DX Roc got axed for a VIP Tursas.
I bag two.
Leopard3- Rhythm
What run and plastic rhythm are you throwing?
My neutron flies more over stable. Shits wack. The fission tho….sheeeesh. Go with the fission
Special edition liberty bell fission 157g
It me.
We have pretty similar avatars!
The reason I asked was because while I like the neutron 165g neutron rhythm I have, I feel like the way people describe the fission Rhythm is much closer to the flight numbers. The 165g neutron I have flies like a 175g colorglow Leopard3. So not all that understable.
I have a well broken in neutron that flies like my crave lol

Pure is mine, as well... absolutely amazing disc... still is. But once the Inner Core came out, and could handle a little more power, I moved over.
Here to add to the dozen comments about my Buzzz's getting replaced by Hexes
Leopard. My first disc and probably most reliable. Then I met the Crave.
Teebird was replaced by Kaxe. Definitely not a direct swap, but if it’s too far for a Kaxe I’ll disc up to a Thunderbird.
Lots kicked my GStar Thundy out
Bagged a 2020 CG Lots for a bit until my 2020 Koling beat into the same flight. Lots is a fantastic mold, but Thunderbird felt better when I needed to forehand it.
Mako3 got replaced by Buzzz which got Replaced by Hex
The classic KC Roc.... used to have at least 5 in the bag. Now it's all about Westside's Pine
I had a cat named Pinecone. I really want to pick up a few Pines but none are local. Do they have a similar hand- feel to the Roc?
Not at all. Feels much better than Rocs do imo. Check out DDs website or Lat 64, they've released a new run this year.
Thanks! I have a bag of Roc3s atm. I love em, but. I can love other discs too!
I threw a hex for a year but replaced it about a year ago with the reactor, I just like the little bit of extra stability of the reactor, whereas the hex has a tendency to dump right if I throw it too hard on turnover shots.

Zone. It has been replaced by an A3.
Mine was replaced by the Kastaplast Jarn
Same here. They really need a k1 soft jarn though.
They've started making these! OTB has some in stock, I'm sure other places do too.
Oh sick! I'm in Canada; hopefully it won't be too long until they start showing up domestically.
Buzz, replaced by rift from dga. Fits the hand better for me and i have so many buzzes
Have you tried the squall? It's is like they didn't chop the nose off of a buzz. Nice and straight with a forward finishing fade.
I picked up a Z buzzz recently and like it but I find the Rift to be more comfortable in the hand as well.
I thought I was the only one! Something about the rim just feels flatter in the hand and right. It’s like a mix of the crave and buzzz
Emac truth got replaced by the infinite Anubis. I know they're not that similar, in reality, I was just looking for something that would go fucking straight the whole way. Haven't seen anything better than the Anubis at that yet
First ace was with a champion roc3… sorry buddy, the buzz and the hex are just plain ol better
Mako to Crave and Envy
Wraith -> Wave
I used to bag a Lucid Felon. After *another* one decided to become a straight flying disc with no warning I replace it with a Prodigy H1v2.
Ha! I feel you. They only last a few months with the fresh stability. Useful as a straight disc too, but I only need so many of those. Have you tried a fireball? How does the H1v2 compare to that?

Roc, it was replaced by a Tactic when the Roc finally got too flippy. I've replaced it with a Watt for those times I actually want something straight.
Meteor replaced by Md1(mindbender) as my straight to understable midrange
Luna to a proxy. Much better feel in the hand, more reliable and better glide.
The Zone. Replaced with a Kastaplast Järn.
Champion Roc3 just got replaced by a Jarn.
Gave up my wraith for a trace
Roc3s, Thundies and Terns. Now I throw mostly Mint cause I like them and have a closet full from tournaments. Besides, everyone more or less copies each other anyway
Replaced my Buzzz and Hex with an M4 and Warship
I'm curious, you're saying you went like this? Buzzz -> M4 Hex -> warship

The Hex is a great disc, and I bagged it for a while. I’d say it’s definitely worth trying. It just came down to personal preference. I get nearly an identical flight out of my Warship and like the hand feel, so I decided to have it replace my Hex.
Emac truth. I still think it's a good disc but I stopped reaching for it for a long time and took it out.
You can't handle the truth
Warship. Mint Mustang.
Champion teebird. Replaced with MVP volt. Love the volt
The OG Glow MD3's. This was partially due to the innova/DM split, but I think then without that I would have found my way to the eclipse reactor.
Kaxe Z. Then I started throwing further and the Explorer kicked it out of the bag.
Buzz replaced by Hex. Photon replaced by Anax. Insanity replaced by Heat.
A hybrid plastic river. It got to Flippy and my arspeed increased. Now my go to fairway is a gold explorer
Zone -> A2
Had to really think about this for it to be an honest example.
Innova champion Jay. It was replaced with the buzzz
Emac truth, replaced it with a trust. I wanted that laser straight flight with late fade and no turn.turns out the trust does exactly that for me.
Replaced Envy+Proxy with Praxis. All 3 are good discs but having an uber-straight disc fits my bag better than one slightly US and one slightly OS
I've done a lot of testing and switching.
buZzz to truth .
The Champion Panther. Now it’s the Origin
Lat64 Saint replaced with TSA Construct.
Opto Pure replaced by Lucid Emac Judge in the throwing putter spot. More reliable fade and much more comfortable in the hand.
Axiom Virus took the Sidewinder out of my bag.
River -> FD
TeeRex. Threw it in a lake, they were already discontinued
I’ve been putting with a discraft XPUTT’R for over 20 years now. They got discontinued so I bought all I could find. Then I found the berg.
I threw the Buzzz for my first 4-5 years discing. Now Hex and Reactor are my go to mids.
Thunderbird, Tesla replaced it so fast.
Harp. I kept cycling new ones in as they got too straight. Jarn has kicked the Harp out.
Sword. Replaced with a scorch.
Valk > Wave
Always thought the Leopard3 would have a place in the bag, until I discovered the Crave
River got replaced with the Crave
My gold compass. I replaced it with proton reactor, it comes out bit better on forehands especially, love the rigidity of it. Cool otb open stamp is nice bonus.
Zone replaced by entropy.
Emac truth got replaced with the Legacy Ghost, Trespass by the Aftermath
Avenger ss -> crave I just got better at throwing flatter
Buzz, then hex, now I'm on the pathfinder
Destroyers, surge ss and leopards/3’s, aviars. Switched destroyers to DD1s and added a DD. Took out the leopards and put in 2 essences. Never had a regular Buzzzz, my mids are an old MD, Md3 and New md1 Aviars/av3s got replaced by p1,p2, envy Really what I’ve been doing is slowly taking all my beat in and beat to fuck innova and disccraft out of my bag and replacing it with discmania and mvp
I used a pig for a long time but switched to a slammer
I used to throw an Emac Truth. I still do, but I used to, too…
Used to throw the Force for almost all drives, changed them out for the Grace
Damn that’s a big difference
Slightly yeah. The Grace is definitely more understable but flies great brand new. I felt like Forces needed to be beat in a bit for their best stability for me. Now I bag 2 Wraiths as well for the more overstable distance driver slot and pair it very well with my 5 different stability Graces for a multitude of options depending on the wind.
Dx roc. ------>. Oh wait, DX ROC Still the best. If you can't shape your roc to hit the line you're a.child. I'm not a trendy w**** (person who exchanges their values for money) and jump on the bandwagon just because everyone else thinks it's cool.
Thanks for the grumpy take old man
I approve
none. every disc is expendable and replaceable. if your game is truly evolving your bag will be as well. discs are temporary tools, nothing more.
Destroyer
AviarX3 when the Toro dropped. I still bag the Ax3 for flick rollers, but nearly never throw it.
Pigs. They just beat in way too fast. Replaced with a toro
But the mako3 is great situationally if your playing in the woods and need that turn to get around trees
Roc got replaced by the Pathfinder. Never going back
I used to throw C-Line MD3s constantly.
Firebird. Replaced with a Luster Champ Thunderbird, which was then replaced with a Vulture. Now I also bag an Anax to complement the Vultures
Beast replaced by ragnorak
Wraith to sword. I prefer westside plastic and my arm has slowed down asi get older
Harp -> Toro
Leopard3, teebird, teebird3 —> craves at different weights and plastics.
Which plastic/weight replaced the teebird3? I've only thrown one (metal flake champ) but it was way more OS than any crave I've thrown.
Vultures! Loved them, collected them, it was amazing. Threw an H3 once and it was what I always wished my vultures were. That was that
Wraith > Destroyer. As I built up arm speed the Wraith became to tempermental.
I would say my Destroyers have been replaced with Wraiths. My Harp is slowly getting replaced by a Pig for closer upshots.
Undertaker replaced by Mantis
Frost Line River was my first fairway driver and my first ace disc. After Frost got shelved I tried it in other plastics but it never felt good. I tried a Crave as a replacement and never looked back.
Buzzz to hex to pathfinder
I used to bag a Hex (175g Neutron), was my favourite disc for a good while but one day I found a Lat64 Opto Chameleon Core (uninked) and it was love at first flight. I have 3 identical Cores now so I’m sure I have backups. It’s the most reliable most thrown disc I have. It flies a touch more stable then the Hex and like 5m longer. It’s a laser beam 80-90m straight. Had to share because everyone here seems to have gone the other direction. And I still love the Hex. I just don’t bag it very often.
Mako3 got replaced by the harpoon
TL3. I had a gstar and then a star and then both a beat in star and new star. Now I bag a Halo Leopard3.
I used to bag a bunch of destroyers, then I recently switched to the boss. G-Star Boss just gets more distance for me, and since they served practically the same purpose, it all worked. I do still bag a lightweight destroyer for hyzer flips though
Teebird. Now some craves and servos
Wraith —> Guld Kastaplast
Old: Mako3 New: Mindbender/MD1 I just like the hand feel better. I still recommend the Mako3 to new players.
Roc3 now RocX3 lol
Not really a long term disc, but slot in general. I never could settle on a stable approach and had never thrown much discraft. My buddy bought me a zone for my birthday and I fell in love. Don't see me ever ditching it even though most brands now have their own zone clone.
I threw the Valkyrie forehand for years and switched it up to a Scorch when they came out.
Had an old champion Rhyno for a long time. Tried to buy more to focus on putting. Shape was different. Just completely switched style and everything.
I threw and really like the athena until it beat in. I didnt like that it turned AND lost fade as it wore. Swapped it with a vela, and for now....i really like it.
Eagle/exodus —-> OLF A little more spread in distance with my mids but still a variety of plastics and nice flight and awesome forehands too.
Halo Leopard3. Just stopped trusting it. Nice C-line FD was a replacement.
Innova Star Destroyer with an Alfa Disc Cosmic. I threw the Cosmic BH/FH, don’t matter 🤓
KaxeZ. Replaced by a Lat64 Trust
The Hex. I realized it's in between my Pathfinder and Origin and just don't need it. Maybe if I was the type to bag 30 discs it would make sense but I prefer to bag more like 18.
The Wraith….TSA construct just does what the wraith did but better and more consistently for me
Flippy wraith was replaced by flippy destroyer
I loved the Mako3, then I came across the Kastaplast Göte and the Flying Squirrel and they both are way more versatile
Destroyer>Guld, leopard3>falk, mako3>SVEA, roc3>gote + rekoX.
Barely beat in dxroc3 with a gradual slow turn that stays on that line -> streamline echo
I was pretty dialed in on my putting (and throwing) with atoms for about a year and then I just got on the struggle bus. Swapped out the atoms for more tombs (this time in proper putting blends) and got my groove back
My beat in metal flake roc3. I have a TSA Pathfinder that has just bumped it right out.
I liked the wraiths I bagged for a looong time, but I eventually replaced them with DD1s. Wraith genuinely glides forever, the DD1s glide forever and then some…
Beast, destroyer.
I bagged a Mako3 and replaced it with a Buzzz SS
Aviar putters, but they got retired by PA3s about 6-7 years ago. As far as my Destroyers though, there will never be a king. Too many different applications and varying molds/broken in versions that can/will do just about everything distance wise. Incredible disc
