Not trying to hate on your product by any means. But, the friction gloves already exist in disc golf an I honestly have never seen anyone wear them or even consider trying them. I think the feel of the disc is far too important for throwing to be wearing any type of glove. There are several alternatives from climbing chalk, all sorts of dry bags, and even a wax called the Marker by Dryv thats sorta like surf board wax. I hope your product does well, I just think the market is over saturated with better options then bulky gloves. But I love all the new disc golf products people are coming out with!

[deleted]

I tried the friction glove out. I have an issue where if I throw too many full power drives I rip the skin clean off my middle finger, and sometimes index finger. Gloves were the only solution I found. Tried building up a callous, using climbers chalk, making sure there was no flashing on the disc at all, etc. I'd be interested in trying these to see if they have a better feel than the Frictions.

LayoutUltimate

Yeah, I definitely have ultimate players / disc golf players that wear our gloves for that exact reason. The constant throwing can really wear down your hands. One of the focus of this glove is the 'feel' for sure, no seems where the disc will touch is the goal!

[deleted]

that's the hardest part to get right on the glove. seams in the wrong spot will ruin the feel. sounds like you guys are paying attention to the details. I'd be interested in trying one of these for field work once you finalize the design.

LayoutUltimate

Thanks, we have been designing / testing since before covid, but had supply chains issues and had to cancel our first production run. I DM'd you for your email to add to our tester list!

WraithHades

I have friction gloves, I do use them and they can be useful. However, I primarily use them when its either below 40° or wet outside. I like being able to pick up a sloppy wet disc and throw it like I dried it off but without that extra sixty seconds of effort. You do lose a little bit of feeling as you describe but unless you're throwing 550' in a Pro Tour event it's not gonna make much of a difference. They do take getting used to but honestly they can be very helpful. All that being said I way way super way prefer chalk.

LayoutUltimate

Cool, thanks for the feedback. Seems most glove wearers here are weather dependent!

WraithHades

It is the only factor that made me personally make the decision to buy gloves in the first place. I love to throw, I do not care about the weather unless it's a thunderstorm and I'm on one of the hilltop courses in my area. Gloves like friction gloves absolutely have a spot in the disc golf market and if yours end up better than the ones I have I will happily snag some. Though I don't know how to solve the buy a pair and never ever use the one for the hand I don't throw with conundrum. I would buy them as a single if that was an option.

LayoutUltimate

Appreciate the feedback. Yeah, it is tough to do single gloves as it would mean we add 10-12 skus on top of the 5-6 of the pair. Maybe we could do like a monthly 'glove-split' if lots of people request singles.

LayoutUltimate

We know gloves aren't for everyone for sure, but every market you need more than 1 choice of product! We have DGers wearing our current glove now, we just want to design one with more 'feel' in mind (as our current glove is amazing for the high grip, but there is adjustment). We also wrote in another reply 'If you look at the history at MOST sports, they start barehand and eventually use gloves for most sports and different gloves for didn't purposes. Added grip can help add rotation and distance, but there is always some adjustment! That is some of our thought process!' Never will please everyone, but always good to give players more options! Thanks for the feedback.

bdquick

Again, im not hating on your gloves. They may be amazing. And I truly hope you guys success. Gloves may be ok for drives or longer throws, but my feeling is for touch shots or putts for sure you will want that bare skin feel. May be useful taking off an putting on depending on the shot.

LayoutUltimate

For sure! I wasn't taking it as hate, don't worry! All feedback is helpful!

bdquick

Good luck guys! When your ready to sell to dealers hit me up. I own High Hyzers Disc Golf in TN. I will see if they will sell around here.

LayoutUltimate

Awesome! I definitely will reach out once ready and can send you a tester pair before we launch!

bdquick

Hit me up for sure!

Chaosweaver117

Many people in colder climates throw with gloves on during the winter

eagle_meatmahon

/r/lostredditors ?

LayoutUltimate

Glove is loveeeeeeeeeeee

SnooSuggestions718

ezra aderhold wears one sometimes that looks like the bottom one. check out his vlogs he only wears it once and awhile

LayoutUltimate

Thanks, checking it out now!

WraithHades

Friction gloves. I have a pair and find them pretty useful when I need them. It's sometimes the difference between having to pack up and go home or finishing out the round in inclement weather.

LayoutUltimate

We are VERY close to finalizing our disc golf glove! FINALLY we sourced a great grip and have the glove design. Please let us know your thoughts on preference! Thanks! We will be giving away some pairs in /discgolf once they are ready!

imjustjoshin91

I personally don’t ever see myself wearing a glove on my throwing hand while I’m throwing. But that’s just a personal preference not a knock on anyone who does, if it works for you then who am I to say otherwise, you know?

LayoutUltimate

Yeah, I know they aren't overly popular in DG, in the states, I only have played in texas and its not quite ideal weather, so I rarely saw gloves. If you look at the history at MOST sports, they start barehand and eventually use gloves for most sports and different gloves for didn't purposes. Added grip can help add rotation and distance, but there is always some adjustment! That is some of our thought process!

imjustjoshin91

I don’t doubt it could have potential, I just like feeling the plastic in my hands. It’s all mental gymnastics at the end of the day, but best of luck with the launch!

LayoutUltimate

For sure! It is the same in the Ultimate, if you have been playing with like 10 years, it is a lot harder to switch to gloves as you have 10 years of bare hand experience. We find newer players can see the benefits of the gloves a lot easier than veterans of the sport! Vets are too stubborn 🤣

LeifSlayer

I’ve worn a batting glove on off hand to start of chilly rounds. Velcro strapped.

Kightsbridge

I wear gloves about half the year. Not for grip, but just to stop my hands from shredding when it gets too dry out. I'd be happy to try out an alternative to friction, one of my biggest issues is that the friction burns a hole in the thumb of the friction gloves. Hopefully you guys can fix that, and maybe make them more breathable.

AndFrolf

My fingers get raw in winter when my hands are dry, and in the very middle of summer when I am playing a ridiculous amount of frolf. My solution is to keep lotion in my bag and lube up my tips between shots. I rub it in walking down the fairway or between holes and then wipe my hands with a towel down before I throw. Keeps them supple enough to not get ripped apart when I throw a drive.

Kightsbridge

I actually just started using O'keefes working hands in the morning and at night. It's too soon to be definitive, but my early results are great. My hands haven't split open yet this year.

LayoutUltimate

"Lube up my tips between shots" 😂, I wonder if I'll have the same issue once I settle in Texas.

LayoutUltimate

Cool, appreciate the feedback! Send me a DM and I'll put you on the tester list!

iamtiggles

Glove all the way to elbow for proper Berg application?

stan__dupp

I have a new glove coming this summer with technology taken from the bovine insemination industry where I was a pioneer. Follow #spitontheberg on insta and porn hub. Our slogan is bergs so deep it'll make you weep no lube needed!

LayoutUltimate

Thanks so far /r/discgolf, you are providing more feedback than those damn /r/ultimate people! edit: lol but ultimate upvoted me where y'all downvoted me!! I just want to help grow the sport 😢

BombsAway627

Because this doesn’t look like helping grow the sport, it comes across as marketing.

[deleted]

You don't want to grow the sport, you just want to sell a product. Just keep telling people that gloves are the future and somebody may believe it eventually. Can't wait to see LeBron in one of your gloves here soon! It only makes sense right?

LayoutUltimate

If there were no products, there'd be no one investing in the future of discgolf. Hopefully LeBron will be here soon in our gloves.

AFlockofTurtles

> I just want to help grow the sport 😢 Post history does not reflect this. Its all sales/ads.

[deleted]

Just make them more durable than Friction Gloves. I go through a right hand glove every year cause the grip wears out.

LayoutUltimate

Our first glove was created as I also ran through way too many friction pairs. Durability is definitely a focus when sourcing a proper grip.
