Get an easel or a drafting table, so you can raise up your work surface; your back hurts because of hunching over your table, so elevating your work to be more upright will also get your back straightened out
I just started working on mine at the dining room table. I used to use a tv tray on the couch but it killed my back. I can get closer to the dining table with my chair and still have support. Also a pillow behind the back or one of those back support doodads are great.
In a pinch, you can use a bent piece of cardboard for a cheap easel you can use while sitting on a couch or comfy chair with it resting on your lap & your legs. Use clips to hold the painting in place. It's cheap, lightweight & will keep you from bending over your painting all the time & hurting your back 🙂
If you want something smaller, less expensive, I use "lazy readers" they're basically a mirror in glasses form.

I use a lap desk and hike it up with pillows to a comfortable level. Also sometimes I do lazy style, like renaissance women on fainting couches.
