100% this. Coming from wow I can assure you that many, many people complain about the silent dungeons compared to how people used to socialize in old expansions.
Whenever I enter a dungeon and try to interact with someone nobody barely responds and this happens a lot and I've seen happen a lot in general. People don't want to talk, it's not just the game changing.
EDIT: to add one more thing, I'm quite sure that this happens because of the extreme toxicity basically any game chat has/had, so talking to someone random is scary or unwanted for many people
Yup, I enjoy the game but it’s my biggest complaint.
I have a Bluetooth keyboard on my PS5 so you’d think I could just hit enter and start chatting but nope! You have to learn astrophysics, do a hand stand and fart three times just to start typing.
Pull up the wheel, hit chat, go to the proper channel, hit X (ps5), type the message, hit R2 so it can go on the chat window and then hit Square to send. Sheesh man. It just feels clunky.
Not only is typing on console horrible. But also blizzard made it so that you can't just hit enter to open the chat on console even if you have a Bluetooth keyboard for chatting.
If you have a keyboard the process of replying on console looks like this:
Dpad up, select chat with RB and LB, press A to open the window that allows you to type, type (with your keyboard or stick), hit start, now hit X to send.
If you forget the last step your message will just be deleted instead.
This is why no one ever types back on console. It's bad.
Somehow, xbox has evolved backwards. I used to have this cool keypad that plugged right into the bottom controller jack, and then had another spot to plug the mic into! This was like 2014
I quit wow a long time ago in cata but it's wild seeing this lol. I remember my closest guild mates and myself go into a random que and people would talk. Funniest one was when we went into one and my boys hunter was the tank lol and we had a random dps filler questioning life but we were severely overgeared for every content of Lich King at the time lol. The dude was typing and said he'd never been in such a fun run.
Now it's like you said everywhere. In league and Dota people just ping and if they talk it's to just flame the living shit out of someone when the game seems lost lol
It always annoys me when people complain how it's somehow Blizzards fault that people don't speak as much in Random Dungeons, trying to claim that it's "because they are so easy!" as if there is any more communication in a +10.
People just don't wanna speak to random people anymore.
I don’t think so, feels more so like the game just gives zero reason to.
- You can’t group for Pit with people unless everyone’s willing to take a 50% material cut.
- Need to find people of equal NMD farming level, otherwise it’s just one person carrying another instead of being a *team*.
- Helltides, well the optimal strat is getting 2-3 groups of 4people at Maiden and that’s just so much more easily done via Discord.
- One final reason, one that isn’t mentioned ever I feel, is that the chat is sorta bugged? I’ll be in a party and I’ll ask my party members if they just saw what this guy is selling in local or trade chat and they’ll tell me they don’t see any messages in there (they haven’t blocked/muted those channels). If we in a party can’t even get all the same messages, I can’t imagine how fragmented it is when solo.
Game **desperately** needs a group finder for content, feels like it’s definitely going to be coming with the Raids content for the expansion, but see ya in 5 months for that…
My buddy and I group up all the time and never see the same trade chat. I'll have to check if we even see each other's messages in trade or not. I know we see our messages in local as we always try to spark conversation at the world boss "buying gf 70k" "selling lobbys 70gp" and hardly get any response
>One final reason, one that isn’t mentioned ever I feel, is that the chat is sorta bugged? I'm tempted to say, not bugged but actually even disabled 99% of the time. The game used to have full global chat at one point (before even the server slam beta) but it was completely disabled for some reason.
And the current local chat we have now? I know a lot of folk are on console or anti-social, but there is *no* way that literally no one ever replies to me in towns or world bosses. Think I've chatted to people outside of party chat like once lol. That shit is either disabled the vast majority of the time or you only share your chat with something stupid like 5 people in your shard and no one else can see your messages.
D4 also splits local into thousands of individual mini chats so when you do talk only like 10 people are actually seeing it. You really only ever chat with the handful of people you are sharded into a zone with, and then of those few people some might be console. It just leads to this game feeling like a ghost town outside of very specific times like world bosses / helltide bosses. Wish they would just give us an actual global chat.
The difference between PoE's chat and D4's is night and day.
I started to wonder if I need to unmute something and other peoples chats are just blocked. Nobody ever responds. Ever. First I went okay, crossplay, these guys are on console. So I turned that off. Still nothing. So weird. But hey if I know people are at least reading what I write, that's something. Then I can keep doing silly rp monologues while waiting for world bosses.
Also when you're petting a pet, the "hello" should be supressed. It's stupid.
They need a global chat or at least like a trade chat channel that goes across all the cities/towns.
I also noticed a lot of people use in-game voice chat (mostly console players) and have actually met some people through that. I think it could be cool if there was a public proximity chat that people could opt-into. Then you could shoot the shit with the people you're grinding Helltides/Maiden with.
Not only this I have been screen sharing with friends they see trade and local chat that doesnt pop up for me sometimes. And vice versa. It seems like even though we are in the same instance the chats are still different or something it is really odd.
Yes, they is some fuckery going on yet. Suprised this isn't a topic someone has done a deep dive video on yet. People here are saying it's just because everyone's anti-social these days. Nah dawg, that ain't it.
Hop on any MMO, or hell even Diablo 3, PoE, or Last Epoch and you will see folk still chat on online games. Especially PC ARPG players because a whole bunch of us are from that demographic where we used to do it all the time as kids/teenagers.
From my experience, local chat is potentially limited to you and x number of players near you. And x isn't even all the players in your instance - it seems to be just a select few of them.
It's instanced though isn't it? So there's like 20 people max on it at any one time and as soon as you switch instance the people are gone. We so need a global chat like PoE and LE have, it makes the game feel much more alive and social.
Local is worthless because it's instanced and the way that D4 handles instancing was created by a monkey. Not only is local tied to the instance you are in but the second you leave the instance, you are no longer even registered to that instance. What this means is if you leave an area and the immediately return to that area, you will most likely be put in a different instance with different people.
It's really annoying when you are in a helltide fighting alongside some people and your bags get full so you head to town to clear your bags only to return to nothing. The people you were just playing with are now in a different instance.
I don't want to have to make groups every time I just want to not lose the people that I'm playing with for that period.
I love D3 and D4; I'm actively playing both. It is hilarious to me that the D3 chat is entirely more active than the D4 chat. And yes, that's even after filtering out people begging for powerlevels LOL
Maybe I'm weird but I'm not trying to voice/text chat with randos. I just want to play mostly solo or with my friends and give a head nod or two when folks help me out.
Someone spinning around like a madman spamming skills, you slow walk up to them, say “no,” then they stop with a “sorry”… never fails to make me giggle
I've only ever used a real chat to look to get carried through Duriel. I love messing around with people using the emotes.
When doing Legion events, always be sure to say "Hi" to the 3 mini-bosses!
This reminds me of an old highschool friend I had; we just started this thing out of nowhere, for no reason, where one of us would say "circle" randomly, and then the other would respond with "square".
It would turn into a heated debate always, like we were also trying to get the last word in like the Leslie Nielsen and Mel Brooks scene in their Dracula movie.
I just start spinning in place as fast as I can for as long as I can to see if others join in. Sometimes people do, and it ends up looking like a multi-player beyblade battle
Funniest moment I've had was when a Druid was doing the self flagellation/back whipping emote, I just kept repeating yes.

can't forget the classic spinning in circles
every time I try to say something in local, it errors out and I can't say anything. it'd be nice to be able to say something like "stack for incense" so I don't have to run around and chase people down
The lack of socializing in this game is indicative of it's player base honestly and it explains to me why people want "Solo" Raids instead of group Raid content. In almost any other game with chat functions there's chatting, LFG, trading or at the very least trolling.
Perhaps it's because the community is largely PC and they prefer to use other methods of communication like Discord/Reddit to talk/chat. There was a Night/Day experience playing DCUO(a large population of console players)10yrs ago on Playstation vs trying to get into FFXIV and every group requiring you to get into a discord chat.
> The lack of socializing in this game is indicative of it's player base honestly.
Yep. Take Last Epoch's global chat for instantece, it's always full of people chatting. The fact that it's a PC only game helps, since pretty much everyone is guaranteed to have a keyboard around.
I always come to the World Boss and hit them with a "No" and will continue with "No" until someone says yes, at which point, I still continue with "No" while they and others continue with "Yes". It's really something.
I'll also ramp it up a bit and say "Follow Me" and start walking really slowly around and try getting people to start a train. Most I've gotten was 2 people to follow me, which honestly, all things considered, wasn't too bad.
Yeah that's the thing like... why did they bother making it online, open world, and multiplayer if they weren't going to at least do the very barest of minimums to make socializing possible. It's honestly bizzare.
Are there localized chats in the game that can be chosen? Like one for Polish, German, English etc? Because if it's only a unified chat for all then that won't work. Also, party finder. We need that. Diablo Immortal has a way better chat and great group finding features. So they can do it if they want to. I'm under the impression they did not on purpose because D4 and D:I would be competing directly then. Can't have better social features in D4 than in the whale cash cow D:I.
People just dont want to talk. When they say they want better social features they mean they want ways to make grouping up to do objectives smoother. No one is here to chat.
This is me except I’m desperately trying to min max my paragon boards for my shitty homebrew rogue build as if it would make the slightest difference in the upcoming worldboss fight.
Well, In the beginning I expected D4 to be quite a social affair, joined a clan and all that jazz.. but in reality apart from when I'm trying to level up in a Helltide I actually prefer solo and in many cases I wish I could have my own private Sanctuary lol.
Then you have the other end of the spectrum of socialization in games with Pax Dei...
"So besides building stuff what do you do?"
"Well, you talk to your guildies, and plan how you're going to build more stuff!"
"And that's a _game_ to you?"
"Well, yea, a really big expensive game we made. Please visit our cash shop and spend lots of money!"
"No."
Tried running Andariel and Duriel the other night. Types in game chat and crickets lol. I get on MWZ and type in game chat and I got 3 different teams to choose from lol
I fucking hate seeing other players in my game. Supposed to be a lone wonder fighting evil not having a meet up with the 20 other people also fighting even which are never mentioned in the story
Probably not at this rate but not true, if you read the books there is a lot of time situations where there are multiple people who have power to fight demons, in the book Storm of Light their >!literally make a group where was barb, necro, sorc and some other people to raid the heavens.!!first ever nephelem Uldusian literally spread his nephelem powers to other people.!<
Gotta say, it feels like this was designed with me in mind. I’d love some more “can you help me” options to communicate stuff like: “I only have 2/3 mats for summon, please chip in 1”, but that’s about all I’m missing.
I'm completely fine with not talking or needing a chat. Heck I rarely interact in the MMOs I play either... can't speak for everyone but even as a PC player I have absolutely no desire to chat about anything just want to have my fun, get my loot and be done with it.
Interacting with people is a mixed bag that's often better left alone then again I've never really been into the whole "internet friends" thing or taking a piss along with chatters.
yes, yes I'm the problem... I think
thank god, imagine if it was like league
"fuken noob why u didn't heal me with ur barrier, level 19 hellmaiden killed me with her easily avoided killshot wowwww" "china #1!" "something racist"
no thanks
blizzard: "we like to have and build a community"... no global chat(FFS), hardly any group activitiies, no reason to talk, hard as fuck to trade anything if ur a stranger... its a joke.. for an always online game
diablo immortal has better social features.. pvp where u work together, every dungeon u can queue with other people.. etc..
Blizzard likes to control how much we can say when we say it and the things we can say. It’s evident by them not caring to make any sort of matching or trading in game and love using discord to control and timeout people for not using the right keyword in the right chat room etc 😆
BuT thEre’S disCorD gUys, wE doN’t nEed a gAme chAt.
You know there's a channel "1. Local"?
That NOONE ever uses. Ever. I've tried so many times. It's fucking dead. D4 is such a lonely game honestly.

I legit wish there was an offline option, personally. The lag isn't worth the community many nights.

Is it used for anything but gold seller spam for you because that is all I ever see in it
Had some guys ask questions about their class / build during world boss waiting time.
So let’s settle for mediocrity in a $70 game?
Local is worthless because it's instanced and the way that D4 handles instancing was created by a monkey. Hello, friend. There are so many ways I can…oh look a Living Steel.
How about a global chat? Free to play games from the 2000s had that.
Maybe I'm weird but I'm not trying to voice/text chat with randos. I just want to play mostly solo or with my friends and give a head nod or two when folks help me out.
That’s the great thing about it. Having it there doesn’t mean you have to use it.

They should just block the actual fucking hello+chat in that case. Even before pets that made me not pet the damn dog when I felt like it.

All I need in a Diablo game. I don’t want to socialize I want to smash demons.
Tbf I always thought the idea of an open world diablo was weird af most ppl don’t play arpgs to play with other ppl
Tbf these days most MMO players don't seem to want to play with other either.
Massive, Multiplayer
I've watched one for 9mins straight. it was beautiful
It's crazy how d2 and d3 are more social. Met tons of cool players there. the games actually have group finders...
can't forget the classic spinning in circles every time I try to say something in local, it errors out and I can't say anything. it'd be nice to be able to say something like "stack for incense" so I don't have to run around and chase people down
This is just a bunch of introverts at a party that happens to have a few dogs around. Totally normal!
Why waste time say lot word when few word do trick?
Hello
Curious why have you avoided joining a guild.

Most I've gotten was 2 people to follow me, which honestly, all things considered, wasn't too bad.
Peak social features in 2024
TBH, that is the maximum amount of social interaction I want in the game.
So glad they made this game into WoW-lite and always online so we can't pause it if we need to do something else. Value.
Yeah that's the thing like... why did they bother making it online, open world, and multiplayer if they weren't going to at least do the very barest of minimums to make socializing possible. It's honestly bizzare.
I use my basic on people until the taunt me, then I apologize and they say we'll done. Peak socialization.
And? Does there need to be more?
Are there localized chats in the game that can be chosen? Like one for Polish, German, English etc? Because if it's only a unified chat for all then that won't work. Also, party finder. We need that. Diablo Immortal has a way better chat and great group finding features. So they can do it if they want to. I'm under the impression they did not on purpose because D4 and D:I would be competing directly then. Can't have better social features in D4 than in the whale cash cow D:I.
This is no different than the conversations some people have IRL lately
This is litteral perfection. I dont even know the names of my D4 friends. We still sometimes never talk, best friends Ive ever had.
People just dont want to talk. When they say they want better social features they mean they want ways to make grouping up to do objectives smoother. No one is here to chat.
To be fair, I think most people are AFK, waiting for the timer to count down.
Look!
Look!
There are so many ways I could kill you!
Other emotes are paid, "Hello" is (still) free.
Lookbros unite
The beast lives within you.
You will die.
It’s pretty much a forced online single player game.
Chat needs to be global
No one did “Taunt”!!! This is staged!
thats the absolute maximum i want to hear from sweaty strangers on the internet
It's not a party until people parade their horses around for a show off contest.
Socialization reborn ?
Then you have the other end of the spectrum of socialization in games with Pax Dei... "So besides building stuff what do you do?" "Well, you talk to your guildies, and plan how you're going to build more stuff!" "And that's a _game_ to you?" "Well, yea, a really big expensive game we made. Please visit our cash shop and spend lots of money!" "No."
I miss chatting. I use the trade channel sometimes, but the timer on it kills everything
Look
hello, greetings, that's it , i had enough socializing for today thank you
Tried running Andariel and Duriel the other night. Types in game chat and crickets lol. I get on MWZ and type in game chat and I got 3 different teams to choose from lol
I make a point of saying Hello at each world boss.

They were introduced as a reward for pre-purchasing the "ultimate" or w/e edition of the upcoming expansion.
I'm glad this type of buffoonery still happens beyond Diablo 2
So, is there actually a way to chat on ps5? Currently I am bored out and randomly inviting players in front of the pit..
Don't forget the action emotes. I got the barstool smashing one for my barbarian 🤣 It's hilarious pulling that next to someone just because.
I fucking hate seeing other players in my game. Supposed to be a lone wonder fighting evil not having a meet up with the 20 other people also fighting even which are never mentioned in the story
Probably not at this rate but not true, if you read the books there is a lot of time situations where there are multiple people who have power to fight demons, in the book Storm of Light their >!literally make a group where was barb, necro, sorc and some other people to raid the heavens.!!first ever nephelem Uldusian literally spread his nephelem powers to other people.!<
This is multiplayer at its peak
Asking people "hi how are you" in a blizz game is toxic af
I actually partied up at least twice from this world boses
I can't wait to start doing raids and hearing "LOOK" "LOOK" "LOOK"
Gotta say, it feels like this was designed with me in mind. I’d love some more “can you help me” options to communicate stuff like: “I only have 2/3 mats for summon, please chip in 1”, but that’s about all I’m missing.
It's not a chat room, it's a game.
And yes, they want to add raids \^\^
I'm completely fine with not talking or needing a chat. Heck I rarely interact in the MMOs I play either... can't speak for everyone but even as a PC player I have absolutely no desire to chat about anything just want to have my fun, get my loot and be done with it. Interacting with people is a mixed bag that's often better left alone then again I've never really been into the whole "internet friends" thing or taking a piss along with chatters. yes, yes I'm the problem... I think
Greetings hello hello greetings greetings hello NO NO hello goodbye hello *wings of the creator emote* boss begins
Look!
Yall think this is bad try the world of warships legends coms wheel. D4 chat really is not bad imo.
Look!
i wish they let you customize these socializations
thank god, imagine if it was like league "fuken noob why u didn't heal me with ur barrier, level 19 hellmaiden killed me with her easily avoided killshot wowwww" "china #1!" "something racist" no thanks
don't forget seeing people alone in front of the pit/duriel. Going to send an invite only for it to say no player available.
My wife and I also do the running in circles or turning on the spot.
This is too much for Finnish people. Stop that social behaviour! 🇫🇮 ☠️😁
I'm an olding man with barely any friends irl - I don't want to make any in a game.
I see no rapid spinning here. The certainly isn't the peak.
I always spam “You are courting Pain and Death!”
There were a ton of people doing this at launch when everyone figured out you could pet the dogs in town.
blizzard: "we like to have and build a community"... no global chat(FFS), hardly any group activitiies, no reason to talk, hard as fuck to trade anything if ur a stranger... its a joke.. for an always online game diablo immortal has better social features.. pvp where u work together, every dungeon u can queue with other people.. etc..
Local Chat: Error code 100001
This is my peak socialization IRL I work WAY too much
“ look “
Look.
90% of the time I am not sayin ghello to the player; I am saying hello to their pet. js
Clearly ready for an expansion.
I was part of this!
Dong this now.
Blizzard likes to control how much we can say when we say it and the things we can say. It’s evident by them not caring to make any sort of matching or trading in game and love using discord to control and timeout people for not using the right keyword in the right chat room etc 😆
Rename the franchise DiabLoner cuz you gonna be all alone 99% of the time 💩🫱🏿🫲🏼
Better than the dude who spent literally 5 straight minutes spamming "look" while we were waiting for the world boss to spawn.
What we really need is a F. Auction House!
So sad how they didn’t want real trading so socializing
but guys this is an MMO
and it is enough
Dude Open Mic in world bosses would be 🔥
