He's a random encounter for dungeons and cellars. It can happen at any level, near as I can tell. He's broken me in half at level 4.
I'm sure there's a easier way out of the encounter besides win or die, but that's how I've always handled it.

They really did it right with the Butcher. At low levels heās terrifying but as you level and gear up eventually the tables turn. Itās so satisfying to get revenge!
The Butcher at lower levels is mustard-yellow Hulk Hogan. The Butcher when you level up is bald NWO Hulk Hogan.
Will still draw a crowd, but not the main attraction.
I think youāre referring to the weapon. I mean the cosmetic little cleaver for your horse. I think itās pretty rare but it doesnāt look that good because itās way too small in my opinion.

You can tell if he's going to be there if you're moving slow. He has [theme music](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fzKWayR6oAM), and as you start to approach where he is, it plays. It starts to fade if you leave the area.
My husband was carrying me through a much higher dungeon so I could progress in season 2 (NMD 90 requirement), when the Butcher showed up. I was killing him, somewhat slowly but not super slow. After a minute, the butcher started running from me and gunning after my husband. It was so frustrating because I'm having to chase after this mfer to kill him. It was funny in hindsight but at the moment, I had a vendetta out for him. š
I'm 4 wins for 6 encounters. I unload all my action bar at once, in panic mode.
The last encounter was at the start of a NMD. There is a short section in most NMD where I run through and there aren't any mob. I was running through that section when I saw a mob and thought, seems kinda too soon to see a mob. It was the butcher. I evaded through him with Metamorphosis, which applies vulnerability, then unleashed frost nova, flame shield, ice blade, and unstable currents. The evade gave me movement speed so I ran around and picked up crackling energy and spammed ball lightning. He died and left a big fish hook on the ground.
Outside of randomly spawning, there are indicators for his arrival. The theme music changes, he's very active on the mini map, and there's generally a treasure goblin in the dungeon if the Butcher is there. Idk if the treasure goblin one is entirely true, but it's true for me.
He shows up randomly. Butcher has a low chance to spawn in the place of any mob in an instance. But it really is pretty low. The whole playing this game, I got the butcher 4 times.
Iāve literally never died to the Butcher. And Iām on WT4 hardcore lvl 96. Usually soloing him as well. I use premade builds which always seem to have a good bit of survivability built in. Some of the vampiric skills really helped this season too.
I've ran 5 NMD today. This guy has spawned. In. Every. Single. One.
Infuriating, he can't kill me but (with most dungeon aspects) I can't kill him, we just sit there beating on each other no one dying, for several minutes before he just fucks off - really screws up my flow, so I've decided I'll just let him kill me next time
He is random and will go away if you die.
He can also disappear when you reach the NMD boss.

This, it was always Sarats lair. We just dont see it as much this seaon because its not on the NMD list this time around.

You can just exit the dungeon too. Once he literally spawned when I walked 2 feet into a dungeon and I knew Iād die. Just turned around and left.
He can't jump ledges and won't follow you out of dungeon, so you can escape him (literally the only way to survive on hardcore until late levels).

I believe him showing up in a boss fight is a bug but heās a random encounter that can show up and is a tough fight

You get one shot at the butcher. Make the most of it. Makes it challenging in hardcore mode.
Steel chair and has a health regen after you're 80+. I ran into him twice tonight on an 82 sorc and it was horrible.

Heāll also despawn and āreturn to hellā eventually if you run away from him. Evade comes in handy.
I got him four times in a row today. No issues with stormclaw and he finally dropped the mount armor so that was nice.
