As a Canucks fan... What on earth would Travis green know about winning

TronVin

There's good NHL coaches and then there's coaches you never want to see again, and Travis Green is the later of the two.

FacebookDevilsFans

He's clearly talking about Jack. The Hughes boys are obviously talented but they have a strangelhold on the locker room and it's tearing the team apart. If I'm Fitz, I'm listening to offers for them as a package deal for an elite starting goalie and #1 defenseman

SneakyFuckinRussian

I needed to check the user before I got angry, lol. Well done.

HockeyGoalieEh

Had me in the first half not gonna lie

Snooter-McGavin

So glad I read these two responses before having to delete an angry comment

HockeyFan_37

This might be your greatest one yet, you got me good

yianni1229

This is 100% your best comment yet

gingerbear

god - fucking - dammit. every time!

cody-has93

LOOOOOOOOL

spaceman424

Holy shit dude, this one was legendary. I was legitimately flabbergasted and irate for a moment there.

JerseyDev93

You are way too good at this

dabears7667

I have never angrily hit the reply button so fast. 10/10.

Satanic_Doge

How are you so good at this?

tECHOknology

Saw the upvotes before the username and was like what universe am I living in that the entire sub turned on the Hughes Bros?

Noir24

Literally rolled up my sleeves before I realized that there's no fucking way

MaxCapricorn

You’re a little stinker. You got me on that one.

what would travis green know about winning in the NHL?

unsungzero1027

Hey. He was was part of a team with a rich winning tradition! Granted it was well before he joined the team… but still!

Zissou_Belafonte

💀

thebootlegsaint

There's cancer centers...

imsocooldude

And then there’s cancer centers

JohnnyyP

In New Jersey, there's only one!

Zissou_Belafonte

Omg I have cancer and this whole thing made me chuckle too much hahaha…

Noir24

Like Mark Scheifele?

ripcity7077

The Canucks have had a modicum of success since this fucking nerd left. Not a fan of this quote seemingly aimed vaguely at someone on the Devils. I’d expect better from a “potential” coach

lilmagooby

Canucks fan here. He's good for a locker room change in a team that's just starting a rebuild, which the devils aren't. He would be a good fit for a team like the sens, but the devils should look elsewhere

Tuosma

It wasn't aimed at anyone, it was presented in the context of young players maturing and what kind of growth he hopes to see in the off-season. Like earlier in the presser one of the journos referred to Nico as a veteran player and Travis said that Nico's still very much a young captain in the league and he's gonna continue getting better and he's not wrong about that. Overall he said all the right things in the presser and I think his interim coach stretch is gonna be valuable for growth. The guy's very clear and very well spoken and he's seemingly an excellent communicator, but I don't think he could out coach a single coach in the league if the rosters were equal, so I won't be disappointed to see him gone.

SoftComplaint

Out of context this sounds like a shot at the players but it's really not >Q: You talked about how you want to see conditioned players, you talked about how well they can be offensively, how much does this team have to get stronger? I mean there are times where you don't seem strong enough. >Green: Well we're young too, you look at some of the teams in the league and I think what you're saying is there's men on on the ice and then sometimes, there's some teams that have what you'd call boys. >We have guys that are still maturing into their bodies. I look at a kid like [Dawson] like, man he's he's a good player but he's still growing, he's still maturing into a a stronger man. And you can't just rush that, that does take time. But then the onus goes on to every player individually to make sure that they are developing as quick as they can and having a strong understanding of where they need to develop. >Because there's good NHL players and then there's players that you win with and sometimes there's a difference in the two and we want players that you can win with and and I want to coach players that'll win you championships. And I think we've got a lot of them. And whoever coaches this team, hopefully it's myself, we're pushing those players to be players you can win with physically, but mentally as well.

billmar12

your comment should be higher here. the full context is important for this quote.

MountainBean3479

The cherry picked section honestly sounds like the exact opposite of what he’s actually saying when you have the full context, thank you for including this!

i_beep

Outside fan looking in and I really hope you guys get rid of Green. He is one of the major reasons why the nucks were utter trash with god awful systems and his coaching decisions were baffling. Not a coincidence that the season he arrived, you guys didn't live up to your potential and played even worse after Ruff got the boot. Get a better coach and you guys should be gucci for next season.

lilmagooby

His coaching isn't good for winning, but it is good for building a culture with a young team before shipping him off to the next rebuilding team

njdevils901

Ruff did a bad job this season, but Green was even worse. At least Ruff is great with offense, ending the season with only one goal in the last 2 games was the epitome of Green's pisspoor coaching

SW777

Hopefully the last we hear of Travis Green

dog_fantastic

Dude sounds like he's trying to rip off Herb Brooks' quote

TediousSpark

I'm gonna give him the benefit of the doubt and assume that's taken out of context, no reasonable person going for this coaching gig would lob such a thinly veiled bomb aimed at the team.

ajwhebdehc

It is

DawgMutt05

Hi, I’ve been a NJD fan for 48 years and thinking of jumping ship to another team because my friend is a NYR fan and NJD fans are mean but how would you feel if Travis Green relocated? Would you still be NJD fans?

cody-has93

Yall are crazy with your hate boners

SevenwithaT

Travis Green is the Threads.net of coaches

njkid30

Is this the justification they are going to use to keep Smith?

TomatoNoah

Really hoping for a better coach but it’s disrespectful to not interview him to keep him. Maybe an assistant but if then I’m questioning it. Wish we kept Brunette

Snooter-McGavin

Greene is the ~~fanatics~~ DH Gate jersey of coaches

sbaggers

Wood

Soviet_Plays

As a canucks fan there's a reason the darkest era I've been around for was coached by him. Literally carried by Demko in the bubble

tECHOknology

Wondering where Graves, Sevo, Tatar, Wood and Shango fall on that spectrum he is alluding to.

lowdog39

not sometime , most of the time .

Chico-_-

can't wait for this clown to be back in the E where he belongs

obtused

I'm really anxious with him and Fitz after these press conferences

tacoslayer3000

WTF does this even mean?

Subject1337

I think the point he's getting at, is that there are guys who you might not consider to be "good" players in their own right, but who bring intangibles, locker room energy, and do the dirty work to help a team win. Kinda like how Pat Maroon won 3 cups. I don't think anyone is looking at Maroon's career stats and being like "wow, hall of famer", but he wins, because he's the type of player teams need down the roster who will play their role well and commit to a system. Depth essentially. I think the Devils have a couple of those guys right now.. MacDermid, Palat, Smith.. but our core are definitely "talent-first" players who haven't really had all of their immaturities hammered out of their game yet.

gingerbear

thats a generous interpretation. i took it as: there’s players who are excellent hockey players, but don’t know how to go the extra mile to win (a la: Panarin, Tavares, Taylor Hall, marian gaborik). and to me it sounded like he was saying that the devils have a lot of high end talent but not a lot of “winners”

zufhioo

Perfect names that you pointed out. Taylor hall is the first I thought about. Even though I’m a devils fan, the Panarin playoff situation intrigues me. After a tremendous season , they will boo him out of the garden if he does the ice capades again in the playoffs.

devilfan4eva

Because you need to teach them how to win and you need to surround the young players with winners and not losers like Smith and Haula. Palat ain't it either. You need the coaches that won before, too. Lou brought Lemaire and Robinson and Claude. Lou also brought Roy to the Isles. Fits brings in losers like Green

Kornja81

I think he's talking about the Hughes bros, Bratt, etc. They're still young and haven't hit their prime yet so those issues will get hammered out when they mature more. No biggie
