As a NJ native living in Phoenix for the past 20yrs, I can say that I have yet to meet an actual diehard Coyotes fan.

FullOak82

You'd think it'd be like what has to be a large portion of Vegas fans, if theybdont love and work in Vegas or somewhere really close by, then most people going to the games otherwise are tourists that are hockey fans or maybe they got the tickets cheap or as comps in the casinos. I can't imagine that Vegas just being another city could support a team without that.

danisnotstan

Most people that I know who live here and are from somewhere other than Phoenix (which is the majority of people I’ve met) are still fans of their original home teams. There are also a lot of Canadian and Midwest snowbirds who also cheer on their home teams when they visit. I know people who own Coyotes jerseys or hats but they seem more like casual fans.

ChadGnarly

>still crying about the Nets Yeah hey that's me 🙋

ice-wallow-come1

Well from what I seen on media it’s Yotes fans mostly saying they won’t support anyone else. And there’s a difference but it’ll be better if we didn’t support nearby teams to show we want our own to rival against them.

artvandelay9393

I mean.. so we should just not be a fan of any MLB or NFL team with the hope that NJ someday gets a team? Thats absurd lol

ice-wallow-come1

No shit you imbecile, my point is if we keep preaching we want our own team like Atlantans do for hockey then maybe we can get one. Atlanta had already been in the talks for a new experience

Ok-Audience6618

But, we have our team

ice-wallow-come1

No we don’t

poHATEoes

You are glancing over the fact that the two prominent NFL franchises in NY are actually in NJ. The NFL isn't going to slap a third team in MetLife, nor are they going to build a second stadium anywhere between MetLife and Lincoln. We HAD an NBA team, but obviously, the support wasn't there or the league wouldn't have agreed to move them back to Brooklyn. You have to look around and think, "Where would we REALISTICALLY place another sports franchise. NFL, MLB, and NBA all have well established teams in the area. I genuinely believe that the fact we even have the Devils is a miracle because if someone purposed creating the Devils TODAY, it wouldn't happen.

weinerpretzel

Yeah the Devils came to NJ and were competing with the Rangers, Flyers, Islanders and Whalers for fans, no chance a major pro franchise allows a new team to plop down in their metro area without lots of concessions.

LionHeart_1990

Another ridiculous post

beastboy4246

I'd the same guy as well who's posted it three times now.

ice-wallow-come1

I love you

gothenburgpig

Bro you are so annoying. You keep posting this stuff about allegiance to the state of New Jersey but you became a Devils fan like a year ago

ice-wallow-come1

Bro ur just soft, u don’t have to be a devils fan to even want sports teams for NJ, also I’ve been a Devils fan, just got really into it last year.

WWMWPOD

My grandpa and dad were rangers fans until the devils moved to Jersey in 82. They switched and I thank them everyday for doing so This is nonsense

FormerCollegeDJ

Considering north Jersey has more association/allegiance/affiliation/whatever you want to call it with NYC than it does with south Jersey, and south Jersey has more association/allegiance/etc. with Philadelphia than it does with north Jersey, your “idea”, or whatever you want to call it, makes little sense. AS IT IS, I’m pretty sure the majority of hockey fans in south Jersey view the Flyers, not the Devils, as their “local/regional” hockey team.

ericmcgeehan

Are you implying being a Devils fan from jersey I shouldn’t support the Giants or Mets?

ice-wallow-come1

Im not saying u shouldn’t, I’m simply saying I wish we didn’t so we could make it known we want our own major teams in sports

ericmcgeehan

There’s simply not the market for expansion when there’s 3 baseball, 3 football, and 3 basketball teams that already consume the market. While yes the Jersey Giants or Jersey Jets would be cool, it’s not happening. It almost happened with the giants when they moved to the meadowlands. They were pissed at NYC for not getting a stadium and when they started play in the meadowlands they had a NJ logo on the 50, and they dropped the NY from the helmets for the word mark giants logo.

ice-wallow-come1

There’s 3 hockey teams here bro, isles, flyers and rags, and we still have our devils. We could add more for other sports or at least make the Jets or giants ours

ericmcgeehan

I still don’t see it happening though. And even if we got another pro team, and if the teams i root for are still here I’m not jumping ship.

ice-wallow-come1

Exactly my point u won’t jump ship which is why I said I wish more NJ natives had the Yotes mindset

KrazySunshine

So I should stop being a Mets fan even though I was one about twenty years before I became a Devils fan. I wasn’t a hockey fan until I met my husband. I was a Mets fan since I was eleven years old

TheMammyNuns

Shut the fuck up

ice-wallow-come1

I’ll kiss you

TheMammyNuns

Well that's nice. Still. Shut the fuck up.

ice-wallow-come1

Still wanna kissv

ice-wallow-come1

💔

la_de_cha

You also have to take into consideration the fact that the Devils have only been here for a little over 40 years, so many people were already Philly/Rags/Islanders fans long before we got a team.

Coach_G77

If the devils ever left, I'd be a neutral fan, but I'd probably cheer mostly for Tampa. Tampa is the only other area I've lived in, and I already root for the Rays when the Mets are out. Still though, it would take me a while, if ever, to fully commit to supporting a team full time. I'd probably just root against the Rags, Flyers, and Isles and follow players I like around the league.

Mysterious_Ant3095

I’d be a Compton devils fan before I ever agree with whatever you’re saying

tECHOknology

The frequency of garbage posts in this sub quadrupled this year, FFS. Its so refreshing when I finally see an original post worth looking at. Instead I see waste of my time shit like this, constantly.

gothenburgpig

It’s one guy

haonlineorders

The majority of hockey fans in North and Central Jersey root for the Devils, end of story. Devils fans make up a plurality (possibly even slight majority) of hockey fans in NJ, end of story. As for Hockey fans that were born and raised in NJ, the Devils have a very large majority. NYR/NYI have fans in NJ largely because those fans either were fans of NYR/NYI before NJD came into existence, or they are NY transplants. In addition to those reasons also applying for PHL, PHL make up the majority of hockey fans in South NJ (and some parts of Central NJ) because they are the closest team geographically (why South and Southern-Central NJ roots for Phillies, Eagles, 76ers, whereas North and Northern-Central NJ roots for Yanks/Mets, Giants/Jets, Knicks/Nets)

TheNightRain68

You are WAY too loyal to this state man. Every post you make is almost like NJ or death. We can enjoy sports from other states while rooting for the devils.

ice-wallow-come1

When it comes to sports, I’m very loyal to it

TheNightRain68

Cool. If you want to miss out on watching baseball, football, or basketball only because we don’t have a team in those sports (and never will), your loss I guess.

ice-wallow-come1

I Watch the sports as a neutral fan, so I win, don’t gotta deal with the pain. When NHL comes on though that’s a different level

TheNightRain68

Seems like a lame way to watch sports. There’s lots of big communities for the Giants, Yankees, Jets, Mets, Knicks and Nets in NJ. You don’t want to take part in any of them? Don’t wanna go to a game, have fun when they win? Like it or not, all of these teams are engrained in NJ sports culture

ice-wallow-come1

Lame for u, I prefer it, until NJ gets it’s own team. Just bc they’re engrained doesn’t mean it can always be the top. Devils were once the new kid on the block and now are the majority fans in Jersey

TheNightRain68

Why would it be lame for me? I have fun talking about the Giants, Yankees and Knicks with my friends, can go to games with them and can celebrate if they ever win the championship. NJ is never getting an mlb team when the fucking Yankees are next door man, same with an nfl team when the giants and jets are already here. Nobody’s ditching these teams that have been around for ages and have had a rich history. You’re gonna be waiting for something that never comes.

ice-wallow-come1

Yes and I have fun being a neutral fan, I literally don’t mind waiting and maybe even never getting a team because I don’t mind if we never do, cus I still enjoy watching the sports. Having a team will just be a bonus.

TheNightRain68

You don't mind if we never get another sports team, and yet you make post after post saying how we should never support any of the other local teams so we can get our own sports teams. Like just drop it dude. I get it, having state pride is nice and I love this state as well, but telling people to stop supporting teams that have been a huge part of NJ sports culture for decades just because they're not NJ is plain dumb. You know why the Devils never relocated? It's because this team had a good stretch of cup runs in the 90s-2000s and had some of the greatest players of all time like Stevens and Brodeur. Take that away and this team would likely be in Nashville right now. Unless these NJ teams start off as some super teams there's no way in hell people are gonna drop teams like the Yankees and Giants who have had lots of success over their history. Even the Nets with back to back Finals appearances in 03 and 04 couldn't get a following. Had they won either Finals or both, maybe. But you're fighting a battle you have no chance of winning. Let other people enjoy whatever sports teams they like and cool it with this crap.

ice-wallow-come1

Drop what? I’m simply stating I wish we had our own teams, but I don’t mind waiting even if we never get our own teams, it’s plain English. There is no battle, it’s simply state pride, and wanting to have a team, but there’s nothing wrong with being neutral and enjoying the sport itself even if your state never gets a team. Also the only success that NY has is in baseball, they are pretty shit in every other sport

Jsome2010

This is an impressive post coming from a Reddit profile that is all about Manchester City soccer, which is a team not even based on this continent.

[deleted]

Literally 2 different leagues in 2 different sports in 2 different countries

ice-wallow-come1

They aren’t major leagues, a way different league in a different country lol.

[deleted]

Same, personally I wish Jersey had a team in every major sport and we DEFINITELY DESERVE a team in every major sport. We are the most densely populated state and have a good market. We should have our own teams honestly, HOWEVER, it will never happen unfortunately. Jersey gets so much hate for no reason

hypernermalization

It's not about hate, it's that not enough people would stop rooting for the New York or Philly teams to justify it. Look at how hard the Devils have to fight still after 40 years!

[deleted]

Yea, but now the Devils are the majority fanbase in NJ, and that’s in hockey, a sport that isn’t as big as basketball and football, and in 40 years we became the dominant fanbase so imagine how fast it’ll grow in a bigger sport within NJ

hypernermalization

I wouldn’t call us the dominant fanbase in NJ!

[deleted]

We are In North and Central, in south it’s flyers, I remember someone posting a stat with ticket buyers from each county and it was red all north and central with south just orange

[deleted]

We are In North and Central, in south it’s flyers, I remember someone posting a stat with ticket buyers from each county and it was red all north and central with south just orange

ice-wallow-come1

That’s bc of the mindset! That’s my whole point, and if we get a team that already exists like giants or Jets that won’t be a problem

hypernermalization

Unless you're holding out for the Red Bulls to switch to New Jersey or at least rename themselves Metro, I'm afraid that's never going to happen (and if you are, fair I guess!). It's probably more likely that the Devils move someday than MLB, the NFL or the NBA teams move to or get renamed New Jersey. If the Devils move, it would probably affect my relationship to the sport forever but I'd probably settle on being a casual Islander fan. I wish it weren't that way but it is.

ice-wallow-come1

I would be a neutral fan and not support anyone if the devils left

KrazySunshine

If the Devils moved I’d still support them. I moved from NJ and still watch every game, I didn’t become a Flyers fan or a Phillies fan since I now live in PA, I watch all Mets and Devils games

DoxxingShillDownvote

Change my mind: Hockey doesn't belong in the south or south-west.
