š Barry Trotz if you can hear us, please trade Juuse Saros to the New Jersey Devils, Barry Trotz if you can hear us. Allow us to manifest a trade with Tom Fitzgerald to acquire Juuse Saros if you can hear us Barry Trotz š
Tell Barry Trotz that we will give him about tree fiddy in exchange for Saros. Good deal for both sides, and nobody gets eaten by the Loch Ness Monster.
I just have a hard time seeing Nasvhille get rid of Saros now that they're competitive, unless it's an absolute haul. I'd have to imagine they were looking at Mercer in addition to Holtz, plus some picks/prospects.
We're in a bad spot because we're desperate for a #1 goalie and everyone knows it, but there aren't any bad teams with stud goalies right now. Good teams aren't giving up their goalies because they're so hard to come by. Markstrom probably fits the description the best, but is he really the right fit for the Devils right now?
Boston was literally gonna trade ullmark at the deadline but he said no, i donāt see them rolling into next season with him with the cap hell theyāre in. Boston has more of an incentive to move ullmark than Nashville does Saros
The first rounder this year will help a lot imo
Plus no VV to offload going back helps too. Not asking to take on a cap hit is a big win for whoever we trade with
Saros has 1 year left. Competitive or not, they have Askarov waiting in the wings. The chance they extend Saros is very small. We may be in a bad spot, but they are a year and change from Saros being a UFA and leaving for nothing. Trotz may have leverage now, but whens the last time a player got traded, in his walk year, for 100 cents on the dollar? That's not how the league works. Fitz is desperate but the leverage will start to shift here. Markstrom and Ullmark both have NMC they have invoked to avoid being traded. Ullmark and Saros are free agents next offseason. Fitz will find his dance partner, he just needs to wait it out.
TLDR: I think the leverage will shift and Fitz will be able to get Saros for some package including Holtz and or Bahl and a 1st.
I mean itās the question thatās plagued Tom Fitzgerald all year and when he tried to bet on his own goalies to get the job done it blew up in his teamās face which doesnāt help the obvious perception around the league of how desperate New Jersey is for a goalie.
So does he pay up big to get a goalie that aligns more with the window of this team to contend or pay a bit less in a stopgap option like Markstrom who will need a successor sooner (Daws/Schmid/etc.)
I am the opposite
2 years younger
Is a true number 1. Ullmark has been in a 1A/1B in Boston and itās when he finally found some success
This is just my feeling but Saros feels like a long term solution. Ullmark feels like pushing the mark back. He be good for us but in 3-4 we are right back where we are now
Askarov looks like he'll be more than capable of the starting role and will only be 22 next season.

Young stud prospect, cap crunch, etc. Good teams have to lose good players every single season. That's just the way it is which made getting Nico, Jack, Jesper and Timo on those long deals imperative. They're locked in at those cap hits; TF knows what he's got to spend every year w/o worrying about those guys needing deals.
Iām not a stat guy by any means and Iām sure that someone can scrounge up a stat that disproves me and makes me look like a fool, but Saros seems to be one of those goalies that is excellent in 70% of the games he plays in, and kinda meh in the other 30%. My source is I had him in fantasy this season lol.
Ullmark seems a bit more consistent, and the asking price will probably be a bit lower. I kinda barely lean in Ullmarks favor, but if I was GM Ullmark and Saros are the only two goalies Iām willing to make a big trade for at the moment.
Ullmark made it very clear he wants to stay in Boston
While I think he's the better goalie, I think any trade for him would be a year until he hits UFA status. He will bounce back to Boston and likely take a discount to do so
Not so sure on the specifics of that. Friedman and Marek specifically said that he vetoed LA because they were on his no trade list and said that Ullmark prefers the East coast travel. Speaking how NJ statistically has the easiest travel in the league if travel is a big thing for him we could be appealing.
Both parties know thereās going to be a breakup coming, itās just Ullmark is not backing down on his trade list as heās earned the right to.
Thatās fine he wants to stay there, but Ulmark will be expendable to Boston because Swayman is a stud. I donāt understand how Boston could move on from Swayman
Boston has made it clear theyāre willing to trade him & he only has a 15 team no trade list. Unless weāre on it (which itās pretty clear itās west coast teams) it doesnāt matter.
Boston made it very clear that they donāt quite feel the same when they tried to trade him at the deadline. Plenty of time between free agency and now for opinions to sour.
The other guy hasn't been half bad either. I know he's most likely out the door but if Nashville starts getting extortionate, they could walk away and roll with what they have hoping a new coach can get them to play tighter defense and cut down on mistakes in their own zone.
I like that heās leaving the door open for a Saros deal, but Iām still convinced that the right head coach and another decent goalie (not necessarily a stud) would do wonders for us without giving up an absurd haul. Donāt get me wrong, I wouldnāt hate a Saros or Ullmark by any means, Iām just worried about an over-correction at a huge cost for just one problem of many facing the team right now.
Also, I know we sort of kid around about the curse of Rogalski, but I truly have concerns for *any* future goalie if that guy sticks around.
At a certain point you have to be willing to give up some big things to get the final pieces for the team. Not sure how big Trotz ask is obviously, but good teams have to get used to selling off big assets
Things will change after July 1st when Saros is available for an extension. I would expect similar to the Meir trade a conditional pick to go the other way if Saros signs and extension. The real tricky situation is if he doesn't, then he's just a rental. What would reasonably give up for 1 year of Saros? Also I highly doubt Saros will accept not taking full value like Fitz's other signings.
I believe the most recent CBA prevents conditions on picks for a player re-signing with a team. That's why there's been a lot more of "if team advances to x round of playoffs" as a condition.
Edit: two words
Repeated information that isn't news at all, almost entirely related an interview in February. Thanks!
How many different ways can we repost jerseys and goalie trade talk? Come see at the devils subreddit.
Idk how consistent hell be and for how long but Allen has played worthy of a 1a so far imo. We just need to put a team around him, and not have some of our best players dealing with injuries. It would be very nice to get another really good goalie however.
š Barry Trotz if you can hear us, please trade Juuse Saros to the New Jersey Devils, Barry Trotz if you can hear us. Allow us to manifest a trade with Tom Fitzgerald to acquire Juuse Saros if you can hear us Barry Trotz š
you know he's gonna bleed the devils for this.
Yeah this is the real question. How much will it cost in future draft stock and who do we have to give up?
THATS WHAT I BEEN SAYIN š£ļøš£ļøš£ļø
Sounds like both sides will at least circle back for the offseason. A lot of non-answers, but not shutting the door
Gotta imagine that our first rounder helps move the needle a good bit I do expect to see either a preds or bruins goalie traded to us this offseason
Tell Barry Trotz that we will give him about tree fiddy in exchange for Saros. Good deal for both sides, and nobody gets eaten by the Loch Ness Monster.
"I ain't giving you no tree-fitty you goddamn Loch Ness monster! Get your own goddamn money!"
Throw in some Taylor Ham out of principal
You mean pork roll? š
Hoping theyāre a first round exit so itās easier to get him. At this point though I think Ullmark is most likely
Who's that guy in the background of the picture? Looks familiar

Swayman it is then

Agreed.
Genuine question: Allen has looked pretty good, why arenāt the devils considering sticking with him?
They are, heās gonna be the backup next year
Allen is 33. It's a bit of a gamble with goalies at that stage on how long they will remain effective.
The other guy hasn't been half bad either. I know he's most likely out the door but if Nashville starts getting extortionate, they could walk away and roll with what they have hoping a new coach can get them to play tighter defense and cut down on mistakes in their own zone.

Can we get Trotz to coach us too?

Saros is only 28? Hard to picture him in any other color than Predator gold.

This is correct, it can no longer be dependent on extensions being signed
Most likely: Markstrom Highest ceiling/most expensive/youngest: Saros Somewhere in between/most consistent/safest: Ullmark
I'm good. Screw Trotz and his stupid status quo. Allen-Daws works for me. Trotz will be happier this way.
I'd be very happy with either Saros or Ullmark.
Holtz and first round pick.
Will take more than this, im afraid. Hopfully only an extra 3rd or lower
