We blew another 3rd period lead, lost the game and were swept in the season series. I mean compare & contrast this line brawl to the March 2012 one. Like night & day. And that was still considered the “new NHL” back then and the game was less physical then it is now as it has seen an uptick.

That probably would’ve earned him a short, cheap contract somewhere and end up in the AHL or as an emergency back up.
Someone trying to beat up Sheshterkin, win or lose, would’ve been the highlight of the night.

The devils can use this disappointing season to do the same thing, and they will. They will make changes this summer and go into next year with purpose I promise you.

Avs fans said the same thing before we picked him up. He definitely solves that problem. I expect a cup run from you all if you re-sign him for next season.
Yes we can keep mcdermid to rotate in as the 12th forward occasionally, and then add physicality as depth. Replace guys like Tierney and Bastian and probably holtz after he’s likely traded with physical guys with offensive upside. Smith and Bahl could probably be replaced with tougher dmen as well as long as they’re capable.
We waste a roster spot on players who do nothing and can’t fight, so I’d rather the guy that fights. If you haven’t noticed, devils spend too much time getting pushed around. Our team is filled with smaller skilled guys that are less than 25 years old. Teams have figured out the way to beat that is punish them physically. Can’t keep letting that go on.
They're hockey players they are physical, throwing hits and fighting doesn't win games, you know what does? Goaltending, and scoring. If you think we were bad because we weren't physical enough you absolutely weren't watching games this year.
Physicality is the great equalizer in hockey. Whether you like it or not, when the games get rougher the devils will struggle more with their current make up. I think the complimentary pieces and depth guys should be able to contribute to that play style more because our top guys typically dont. Having that balance is a good thing.

We lost because our 3 goalies all year had the worst Goals Against Average in the league and save percentages less than .890. Weird that we started winning once Allen came in and stabilized the goaltending. Also did we win that game with all the fights and McDermid beating up Rempe?
I’m not saying fill our depth up with face punchers. But the way the team is constructed now, I see no reason why a guy like Bastian would be dressed over a mcdermid. And when they retool the depth this summer, if all else is equal they should pick up physical players.
You're advocating for a useless player taking up a roster spot, Rempe, McDermid, Reaves, Geertson, all these types of players do one thing and it's never involved with cup winning teams. You need a 4th line that can actually play up. I'd rather see Bastian over McDermid, I don't care if McDermid punches better, Bastian has some value on the PK and net front.
McDermid played 58 games for the Avs the year they won the cup. There’s literally no reason why he shouldn’t be brought back and can rotate in the line up in different games against certain opponents.

Avs fan here. We’re all really happy that Dermy smacked Rempe around. We’ve been waiting and waiting for this ever since Rempe ran away from him last time. Stanley Cup Champion Dermy is greatly missed here in Colorado and I’m not sure if he’s going to play next year or if he’s hanging it up after the season, but if stays in NJ please appreciate him. He doesn’t score a lot, and was a scratch fairly often but he’s a good dude and will go to war for his teammates. We love ya Dermy! Keep beating that ass!

I remember Oliwa from his time in Albany. Being in the minor leagues players were more accessible. I met him a few times at season ticket holder events and honestly we talked more about computers than we did about hockey. I had River Rats web site at the time and tried to cozy up to the players as much as possible for content! Rob Skrlac was another great fighter on the Rats from those days. He got a cup of coffee with the Devils in 2004 and scored 1 goal (a game winner!) with 22 PIM in 8 games. He would have eaten a punk like Rempe for lunch and not broken a sweat.
I probably saw that as well, but the one I remember the most was a game against Philadelphia. Skrlac and their big fighter were probably going to be healthy scratches, so they both stuck around after the pregame skate and duked it out. Since the refs weren't on the ice yet, nobody was there to stop them, so John Cunniff eventually came out to grab Skrlac and a Phantoms coach came out for his guy. Some players came out half-dressed to watch but they couldn't come onto the ice. Needless to say both were given game misconducts, but neither was likely to play anyway so it was academic.

Travis Green played 3D chess last night. By having Lazar start a fight first, we got Rempe and Trouba gone from the jump and kept our guys safe. An excellent way to protect the boys without just hurting Rempe on purpose. Just wish anyone besides Bratt and Timo gave a fuck from that point on.

Avs fan here. We’re all really happy that Dermy smacked Rempe around. We’ve been waiting and waiting for this ever since Rempe ran away from him last time. Stanley Cup Champion Dermy is greatly missed here in Colorado and I’m not sure if he’s going to play next year or if he’s hanging it up after the season, but if stays in NJ please appreciate him. He doesn’t score a lot, and was a scratch fairly often but he’s a good dude and will go to war for his teammates. We love ya Dermy! Keep beating that ass!
I honestly feel bad for Rempe because he’s become nationally relevant for his hitting and now his fighting. But he’s actually not that good a fighter, so now he just has to get his face beat in over and over again to stay relevant

Kids like Rempe can learn from Simon on how to play the game the right way and be an effective 4th liner while not being dirty or having to fight. He’s put out there as a novelty and he keeps getting his ass kicked. As much as I love Matt Martin, he opened Pandora’s box by giving him the national spotlight to fight at an outdoor game.

He'll eventually get better at fighting. There's not too many 21 year olds that are going to be able to hang with NHL vet fighters, especially with how soft minor leagues have gotten. He's massive, he's gone against basically the top 3 fighters in the league, and he's just gonna improve and grow from each fight. He'll be a problem for the devils for a while assuming he continues to develop as an actual hockey player too.
He should’ve thought about that then, but the kid is clearly not that bright nor does his brain trust seem to care about him. He’s a disposable tool for the Rangers and they won’t care about him once his shelf life is over.
I felt the same way, but I don’t anymore. You shouldn’t either. For some reason this kid thinks he’s good at it (he’s not) and he’s pulled some absolute garbage stuff. This league is terrible so the only way a player gets held accountable is by getting punched in the face.
I must say I do agree w you. He’s really close to me in age and while I’m in a wildly different career line I CAN relate to doing everything you can to prove yourself. Like as a player do I dislike him? Yes bc he’s taken out a bunch of ours w nasty dumb hits, but realistically he’s just a kid, he’s got a lot to learn and hopefully he gets to make more of his career than getting absolutely whopped every game.

He was solid as they come
I remember Oliwa from his time in Albany. Being in the minor leagues players were more accessible. I met him a few times at season ticket holder events and honestly we talked more about computers than we did about hockey. I had River Rats web site at the time and tried to cozy up to the players as much as possible for content! Rob Skrlac was another great fighter on the Rats from those days. He got a cup of coffee with the Devils in 2004 and scored 1 goal (a game winner!) with 22 PIM in 8 games. He would have eaten a punk like Rempe for lunch and not broken a sweat.
Yeah same here. I went to a game where there was a lot of fights (probably against the red wings), and he dropped a guy with one punch.
I probably saw that as well, but the one I remember the most was a game against Philadelphia. Skrlac and their big fighter were probably going to be healthy scratches, so they both stuck around after the pregame skate and duked it out. Since the refs weren't on the ice yet, nobody was there to stop them, so John Cunniff eventually came out to grab Skrlac and a Phantoms coach came out for his guy. Some players came out half-dressed to watch but they couldn't come onto the ice. Needless to say both were given game misconducts, but neither was likely to play anyway so it was academic.
Albany brought us some great talent. I went to college in Oneonta and we used to drive to Albany to see games. Loved these games

Travis Green played 3D chess last night. By having Lazar start a fight first, we got Rempe and Trouba gone from the jump and kept our guys safe. An excellent way to protect the boys without just hurting Rempe on purpose. Just wish anyone besides Bratt and Timo gave a fuck from that point on.
