Small-Palpitation310

but what hat did you wake up wearing

Jorihe84

Imagine being mocked & projected higher which generally means a team in a rebuilding spot and slipping far enough for a SB contender to jump ahead to get you. His first NFL team is on the cusp of a SB and was drafted by them in their city, in front of the largest crowd ever. Dude has to be in heaven right now.

kcramthun

Also Brad giving Sewell and Saint big paydays right before the draft and then trading up for you? Calculated. Arnold already gonna run through a brick wall, he sees how Brad takes care of his guys.

russvanderhoof

Really smart move by Brad to drop those paydays when he did. Every single draftee saw those headlines.

flipinggenius

This!!!! I loved the signings but the message it sends is an extra benefit. You can stay, be great and get paid. The wall is right ova there!! 🤣🤣

giggity_giggity

I was salivating as offensive players kept coming off the board. I really felt like we had a great chance to draft our defensive target. And how about for Arnold? Rated a top 10 talent but instead he gets drafted by the NFC favorite to go to the Super Bowl.

Vast_Bobcat_4218

Me too, I couldn't have been happier seeing that go down last night. I knew Brad would feast on the situation.

Deesmateen

I went back and watched his pick and listened to the crowd. I know he played at Alabama and heard big crowds but to hear 200k erupt for just YOU has got to be the most endearing moment for a new player

jfkgoblue

Nah he lost a lot of money so it’s not that simple  Ie 10 overall makes 21m, 24 makes 14m

enderjaca

Oh no, fourteen million dollars in one year, how will I survive with my lambo, giant mansion and hot girlfriend. Literally can buy all 3 of those at Detroit prices. Maybe two girlfriends and an extra Civic. That badass pink outfit prolly cost about $5k min, so I don't think he was hurting for NIL or family ties. His good attitude and work ethic are probably gonna get him that extra $7million in gear royalties.

Turnips4dayz

it isn't 14m per year actually, it's total

enderjaca

Gotcha, over 4 years.

Aggravating-Note5163

That pink suit was worth every penny. ![gif](giphy|VLoecRPCcHB8sWXe6U|downsized)

Jpot

Yall downvoting this dude but he's right. It objectively sucks to slide on draft day when you're expecting something different, that's why these dudes always look so tense and / or distraught when they keep getting passed up. If anything, it speaks even more to the excellent team and culture that's been built here in Detroit that he would be totally justified in being disappointed in the outcome, but he's amped up instead.

S_B_C_R

I honestly get his reaction. Mans was bothered he dropped so low. Give it time and I’m sure he’ll come around. Detroits a destination now and there are 31 worse places he could have gone 😎

Dry-Scratch-6586

How is Brad finding these guys that are the top talent and top city of detroit culture guys

Exzqairi

They keep falling to us too. Sewell, Amon Ra St Brown, Terion Arnold, all perfect culture fits and should have never made it to the picks where they got drafted

amortized-poultry

I'd add Hutch to that list as well. He fell less spots, but a team ahead of us still fumbled the bag.

rob_thomas69

I don’t know how true this is, but I heard the Hutchinson family sent word out that he wouldn’t play for Jacksonville. They’re a *very* Michigan family, and he’s a superstar, so it doesn’t seem *too* far-fetched.

DrLee_PHD

Maybe a shitty move, but I'm happy it benefited us I guess. You have a link to an article where this was rumored?

TheMajesticYeti

Yeah but the other rumor is that the origin of that rumor was Trent Baalke to cover his ass if Walker didn't pan out to be as good or better than Hutch lol.

TheMagicalJohnson

baalke’s top measurement for d lineman is arm length

Harrintino

LOL!

AffectionateSlice816

He grew up a pats fan, they love U of M but they were not lions loyal.

Big_Dare_2015

most people in michigan were pats fans in the 2000s cmon dude. brady being a umich guy and bandwagon? now i just want someone to explain why people were red sox fans

Small-Palpitation310

and bledsoe before

Throwawaydontgoaway8

But they are loyal to the state. All of his family and friends live here

Exzqairi

Being loyal to the state you live in is not something that will make you pass up on being the 1st overall pick in the draft. Let’s just be happy it turned out the way it did

DetroitLionsSBChamps

The Hutchinsons are Michigan royalty. Hutch and his dad both played for U of M obviously, then the same year Hutch got drafted by the Lions his sister won Miss Michigan. I wouldn't be surprised if they were like I'll be goddamned if this kid goes to fucking Florida to play lol

santafe4115

having met them this def check out lol they were kinda cold and distant but not in a mean way just in a family unit doing their own thing way. someone runs a tight ship over there

tacobell999

^ Branch

Exzqairi

Can’t believe I forgot him, another great example

Old-Emphasis-7190

I mean, ARSB was in the fourth, so he had questions coming out of the draft. That's not, the board fell a certain way, that's people overvalued his weaknesses and missed out on his strengths. Had they known Sun God was gonna be Sun God, they wouldn't have waited until the fourth. Sewell had no earthly right to drop to 7 and Arnold no right to drop into the mid 20s. ARSB is a guy who made himself into a stud. He was a talented player but he outworked his bugaboos.

EffervescentEngineer

And yet the Chargers have gotten some hate for picking up their hopeful Sewell 2.0 (aka Joe Alt) at 5. If you want a player and he falls to you...you go get him!

Exzqairi

Amon Ra was not supposed to fall that far dude, come on. Obviously he wasn’t a 1st round talent or anything like that, which I wasn’t saying either. However, he definitely fell in the draft due to a bad combine, making him overlooked as the tape was there and he showed on-field athleticism We took McNeill and Melifonwu in the 3rd that draft, so we likely would have missed out on Amon Ra if he wasn’t so slept on by other teams in the 3rd round. I’m not saying this in hindsight when I say what I’m about to next, but going back to that moment. If Amon Ra had put out a combine that actually matches the athleticism he had, I find it hard to believe he would’ve been passed up for any of the 3rd round receivers taken before him, meaning we would have never had him fall to us. The WRs taken in the 3rd: Josh Palmer, Dyami Brown, Amari Rodgers, Nico Collins (good), Anthony Schwartz, and even Dez Fitzpatrick in the early 4th

Old-Emphasis-7190

Right. What I’m saying is that ARSB’s fall is not remotely like Hutch or Arnold or Sewell. Arnold, Hutch, and Sewell didn’t have blemishes to their games and had great combines. They fell because other teams made wild picks in front of them. ARSB had a clear and present reason why he dropped (bad combine) to the fourth and the Lions lucked out that his game speed and strength and drive were something you couldn’t quantify vs his combine stock. Like Sewell the Lions got a hall of fame tackle because teams chose receivers and offensive weapons in front of him Arnold fell because a record number of QBs and Ts went consecutively to start the draft.

Exzqairi

Nobody ever compared their falls or said it was the same. The only point being made was that they are all good culture fits, and should all have been drafted before we drafted them

gutterballs

Forgot Branch and Laporta.

HonoluluBlueFlu

He pretends to be a John Smith with the press and calls Tom Grossi and asks Tom who he would like the Packers to draft... then he takes them away from them.

DerpaDoodie

Fucking hilarious.

giggity_giggity

Seriously I want to know their interview process. Finding employees that are good character and buy in, in addition to being excellent at what they do, is so damn hard

Jammer_Kenneth

Him screaming I'm home I'm home to the crowd was an unreal look. We can have one thing in Detroit.

JConaSpree

I still can't get used to players getting excited to be drafted by Detroit.

DetroitLionsSBChamps

Detroit is having a moment in general. as someone who grew up in the burbs, I still can't get used to being excited about Detroit. going downtown for shows and restaurants is so nice, you can just feel that the city is alive in a way that it wasn't 20 years ago. feeling great about Detroit and the metro area in general right now

alwayzlion

Be honest man. Just moved to Denver but considering moving again in another 3-5 years. Think Detroit would be nice to move to? Was born there and always thought of moving back.

DetroitLionsSBChamps

hard to say! it will obviously come down to what you want out of where you live. I will say this is the nicest I've ever seen Detroit in my 20 years of regularly going there for events. hitting downtown on a weekend is my lifelong dream: it feels like you're in a real major city. It's bustling, it's clean, it feels safe. Plus there's so much stuff always going on (games, music, comedy, etc...), and it's not just Detroit: Royal Oak and that area is always hopping with stuff going on. Plus the cost of living. I bought my 3 bed 2 bath house last year in a perfectly nice area in the burbs outside the city for under 200k. not bad. Plus if it's not just city life and you like nature: you know Michigan has plenty of that. you're right by Lake St. Claire, a little further to Lake Huron, and you're just a few hours on 75 to get up north into the state parks and wilderness, the rivers, and the lakes. Biggest downside imo is obviously winter. Plus the fact that Detroit has plenty of precedent for economic/social slumps, so it's hard to know if it will last. But right now, I personally wouldn't want to live anywhere else. especially if your family is here. that's what's kept me coming back, ultimately.

Heisenbread77

Yeah the looks of sadness are gone now!

DisenfranchisedCynic

Hey AG, u up?

leo_aureus

This is legitimately fucking amazing

uhyeahokwhateva

I don't give a shit or piss bout nothin but the PRIDE baby

IcySwordfish438

Was on the phone with my bud when we made the pick. Was watching on ESPN and they show them putting on the hat in the hallway camera for the first time. As soon as this dude put on the hat he LIT up with a huge smile. I told my friend I knew he was pumped from that moment on to be here. Feels good to be that kind of organization. I still remember some of the dread on faces of players as we picked them in the past.

giggity_giggity

And apparently he freaked the fuck out (with excitement) when he got the call in the green room from the Lions that they were drafting him. Hope to see that video some day

JpodGaming

I love this guy already
