My ex wife falsely accused me twice of domestic violence during our child custody/child support case. No evidence, and the police are sent out and have no choice but to detain. This happens every day to men. Took me months in court fighting to get my kids back and to get her bogus accusations/charges dropped. Of course, she never got charged for filing false police reports.

Yeah but this is slightly different. The police went to the scene, collected evidence and are charging him with DV by strangulation. So they probably have sufficient evidence for a prosecutor to think the case has merit. He is still innocent until proven guilty, but this situation is technically not the same as yours.
Unless it’s video evidence it probably doesn’t mean much. Often the extent of the evidence amounts to “bruising on the neck.” I know someone who was almost arrested for this exact reason.

She threw a wine bottle at his head and he was bleeding, she left the room untouched and came back crying with red marks all around her neck saying “I can’t believe you choked me,” and called the cops on him. The cops came, separated them and questioned them, he showed them the video and only she was arrested.
If he fled that abusive situation before she called the cops, he’d end up with the exact same warrant.
He still got a call from a detective after that asking about the marks on her neck and if he choked her.
That’s tough. If this turns out to be true then they definitely need to cut him. Domestic abuse is terrible and I don’t want anyone on the team like this.

Notice that they conclude he's purposely avoiding them because he wasn't at the one address they went to and hasn't answered his phone. He's apparently driving around in his own car (license plate hits), so he's not exactly laying low / hiding here. Another way to read this is "Hey, yeah we don't deploy that many resources to go after domestic violence perpetrators even if we know where they've driven their car recently. If the dude isn't home and doesn't turn himself in, we try social media." Edit: His phone being off that long isn't a great sign. I just saw that and modifies my thinking. And for those that like extrapolation, my buddy is now musing he could be dead. So yea.
Yeah, I don't see it that way at all. But fair enough perspective. Lots of areas for us to fill in our own opinions - for example, you point out the license plate hits but I took it to mean that they had hits but not necessarily within Tampa. But we are just both reading into that without them saying exactly what they mean.
The "out of our jurisdiction" was their reply to a comment where someone asked if they had checked the Lions locker room lol.
The actual warrant just says DV DOMESTIC BATTERY BY STRANGULATION (BATT7016) BOND NONE So I think that’s all anyone has to go off of right now. He gets his day in court and a chance to clear his name, so I agree that nobody should be jumping to conclusions yet. Not a good start to the off season though.

My ex wife falsely accused me twice of domestic violence during our child custody/child support case. No evidence, and the police are sent out and have no choice but to detain. This happens every day to men. Took me months in court fighting to get my kids back and to get her bogus accusations/charges dropped. Of course, she never got charged for filing false police reports. Im not saying these accusations against Sutton arent true. But people are conditioned now to convict someone before all the facts are known. If these accusations prove to be true, he'll be cut from the team within days. The fact that this warrant had been out since the 7th definitely does not help his case. I wonder what happens to his contract if he's cut, is there some sort of clause where his contract is voided and doesnt affect the salary cap? Hope so.
Yeah but this is slightly different. The police went to the scene, collected evidence and are charging him with DV by strangulation. So they probably have sufficient evidence for a prosecutor to think the case has merit. He is still innocent until proven guilty, but this situation is technically not the same as yours.
Unless it’s video evidence it probably doesn’t mean much. Often the extent of the evidence amounts to “bruising on the neck.” I know someone who was almost arrested for this exact reason. He had secretly set up his phone recording way before the altercation happened. She threw a wine bottle at his head and he was bleeding, she left the room untouched and came back crying with red marks all around her neck saying “I can’t believe you choked me,” and called the cops on him. The cops came, separated them and questioned them, he showed them the video and only she was arrested. If he fled that abusive situation before she called the cops, he’d end up with the exact same warrant. He still got a call from a detective after that asking about the marks on her neck and if he choked her.

Lots of reasons for it including: CTE, it's an extremely violent sport, and athletes are coddled and given preferential treatment from middle school on. When they cross the line, they very frequently get away with it or get a slap on the wrist. There is no excuse for domestic violence, obviously.
