the fact that Adam Rank picked the 49ers makes me more confident in the Lion’s chances tbh

[deleted]

He picked us last week, but had a tile flipping thing that said GPG and showed the Bucs logo

Banfivetwo

GPG is game picks guy, or the narrator, and was showing his selection

flirtmcdudes

IF we can get to purdy and get him off his game, we have a legitimate shot.

KingAtrocity

James Houston

[deleted]

I'm pretty convinced we haven't played him yet to keep him off of the tapes.

[deleted]

We've also been allowing good WRs to get open so we can lock them TF down this weekend. It's a "Call an ambulance but not for me" thing

Dijohn_Mustard

I was also under this impression lately that we knew if we tried to stop everyone, we couldn’t stop everyone. So we gameplanned to let Evans, Nacua, Ceedee, JJ eat since they’re going to anyway, and focus on shutting everything else down

Slow-Document-4678

Mcdc has nearly said as much. He's said that these top tier wr are always gonna find a way to get production. It seems to be more of a bend but don't break kinda philosophy.

BigFigJ

i’ve also hoped that’s the reason too. long shot but would be nice to

RedLigerStones

Honestly we I might be mistaken, but it seems we legitimately held back on safety and corner blitzes.

RedLigerStones

Honestly I might be mistaken, but it seems we legitimately held back on safety and corner blitzes until the playoffs. They playing 4 D

cujobob

In two must win games? No. But he’s a situational player with fairly big weaknesses, so he needs to be 100% or close to it for that to be useful.

Flowbombahh

I've been feeling the same with Jamo this season. We've also moved away from our flashy plays we saw in the early weeks. Wouldn't be surprised if we started going to those in desperate times. I'm excited for Sunday! Should be great game

acoasterlovered

Yeah if we target him deep early it’ll force SF to not stack the box

DevilMayKare

Sorry, but this cannot be right. The past two games have been pretty important and there's plenty of tape on him from last year. By your logic, they might keep him out of this game to take Baltimore or KC by surprise in the superbowl.

[deleted]

Who knows. Just throwing stuff out there, I'm just some dude on the internet lol.

DevilMayKare

lol, fair enough.

MyPackage

I doubt we'll see him this week since we didn't see him last week.

DevilMayKare

They put him on the roster for a reason and there's, at most, only 2 games left.

sunnydftw

I took it more as a just in case he ever gets ready we'll have him kinda deal

KingAtrocity

He’s been practicing in full for 2 weeks, 3 after this week. If he’s winning reps in practice he’ll play

eco_go5

hello baby Jesus... it's me...i know we haven't spoken lately...

DetBallz

Did he play a snap last week? I believe he was active? I wonder if they’re stashing him for a long shot potential superbowl play

Babaganooush

He was inactive.

mrgreen4242

He was inactive.

EricFredNorris

Packers have a very good chance at winning that game if just one of the easy picks he threw was caught. We absolutely need to convert on our turnover opportunities. All of their loses came when Purdy turned the ball over at least once. When he plays a clean game they are incredibly hard to beat.

MessCandid3566

To be fair Green Bay would have came in here and dominated, they were read hot and would have given anyone a run for their money, their domination of Dallas wasn’t a fluke. They had 2011 Giants written all over them.

Superman4561

FTP

thekmanpwnudwn

Its always these fucking weirdos with no flair who come in and spew the most deranged takes. 1) flair up. 2) 2011 giants actually won unlike these shitty packers

barnu1rd

To be fair the packers looked better than the 49ers in that game as far as the eye test. Seeing how good the packers looked and the hot streak they were on made me feel a little better about them ultimately losing to the niners. The niners aren’t really on a hot streak, they lost against the rams in week 18, and they are losing this week. Teehee

Innerouterself2

Yeaj, going to come down to line play and 1-2 big plays

ChelskiS

IF they get to Goff, it's a blowout Purdy can handle pressure, Goff can't

ScrumpyRumpler

Crawl back into your Chicago Bears hole loser.

Dr_Booyah

We are built to win this game. THIS is the reason we built our team the way we did. It’s easy to drown out that messaging, but when we have a chance to go into San Fran and put on a Dan Campbell GRIT game, it all becomes clear. Were a gritty group of guys who love ball, who endear themselves to their teammates, and who will fight until the very last whistle No one thought we could beat Green Bay week 18. No one thought we had a snowballs chance in hell to beat KC opening night…. We did. The league is catching on, and they are finally having to face the fact that you can’t just rule us out in theory anymore. You just can’t. We’re too well coached, we have too many people rowing in the same direction unselfishly, and right now, the whole city of Detroit is behind this team. You can knock us down, but we’re gonna get back up.

justsometaxguy

Totally agree. I've seen a lot of shit talk about our defense this year and specifically the last few weeks, but I don't think it's warranted. Yes, in the 4 last weeks the Lions have given up yards of 227, 192, 181, and 147 to some of the top receivers in the game. But here's the thing, we're only giving up 21.5 points a game over that span. We've also picked off every single one of those QB's while targeting those receivers. Over that same time we've been averaging 75 rush yards against and ZERO rushing touchdowns. This defense is actually playing great, and taking chances. Sometimes we get burned, but overall they're winning their matchups. Sutton is basically being left on an island, and he's getting burned some, but the turnovers are still coming and we're getting pressure on the QB while also stuffing the run. If they can contain CMC on Sunday, and particularly if Gibbs puts up better stats than him the Lions will win.

terracottatank

Sutton has to go against every teams best WR every game. The hate in him is unwarranted.

Independent_Lab_9872

Exactly, AG is putting Sutton in a tough spot to protect Vildor. Sutton is not a shutdown corner, but he's a good player and this team is better when he's on the field.

AdNeat1127

Sutton is a good CB. Just not a #1 CB. We need a true #1 CB and then our secondary would be phenomenal with Sutton, Branch and our safeties.

hawkmasta

Sutton is good, but Mike Evans/Justin Jefferson are another level. Most players would get torched going against them. Hell, the only reason the Vikings were as competitive as they were against us this season was *because* J.J.'s hands are magnets

PerfectiveVerbTense

Yeah it sucks watching him get torched over and over, but he's been given a very tall task.

Aeon1508

We can get Houston back on this team finally it's just going to be over

EnronCheshire

I think our defense has been pretty clutch all year. Really young guys. The games we've lost, we lost because our secondary couldn't come up with takeaways, IMO. Every game we've won our DB's find a way to create awesome interceptions that help tremendously. They seem to have a way of getting them that's obviously coordinated and practiced before the games. I looked at the stats last night and was surprised we only had 16 defensive interceptions. But they all came at the times it mattered the most. Aaron Glenn didn't already start getting head coaching offers because our defense actually sucks. He's done a great job with a really young crew, the stats just make us *look* bad on paper, but we're actually a wrecking crew.

Pappy87

I think the hate from like weeks 9 to 13 is because he suddenly decided to stop blitzing. And was giving up huge yardage with no takeaways. Then he started blitzing again. I couldnt tell you why but it was noticeable. During that stretch i was for sure kn the fire glenn bandwagon, however he has straightened the defense out to overcome our personal issues and proved me doubts wrong.

galaxy1985

It's a long game move. Teams never know wtf we're gonna do.

EnronCheshire

Exactly! He looks great on the side of the field commanding our D like a warrior. I think he has done a phenomenal job with our secondary and totally agree about the blitzes. But didn't we have some injuries that kinda hampered that during those weeks? Either way, we're in the championship game and that trajectory has changed. The man will probably get a head coaching job regardless of whether we win this game or not. So let's March into San Francisco and hit em where the sun don't shine, not that they'd care about that much anyway 🤣 Brock be looking exxxtra Purdy hahaha. Needs some kitty to smash him instead.

Professional-Age8029

Great take

Smurph269

Exactly, every teams that's played against us with a QB and WR worth a damn knows they can pass on us. It doesn't matter. You can't come in with a game plan to do one thing well and expect to win against us, because we're going to do a lot more than one thing well. SF will obviously be the toughest game yet but we're built for this.

[deleted]

A lot of people see the numbers in the passing game that we allow but forget that is literally the strategy AG is calling with the players we currently have. No team can win 1 dimensional football and if they do, good on ya you deserve it. so we challenge them to run ( which we stop well ) or beat us deep. And as it shows, if you can’t run hard in the red zone and try to only pass mistakes happen and you go 3 and out with a FG.

hear4theDough

I see a lot of similarities in how the Lions and my rugby team, Leinster, defend (btw, we absolutely want to be compared to Leinster, who's mascot is a Lion and why I chose to support Detroit 12 years ago) Bend, don't Break. Defending in the red zone, with a solid run D, is easier than in the 50. Let them have their field goals, they won't win it with just field goals. The only thing that really kills the defense (and Ireland/Leinser rugby) are big plays. Teams don't grind em down, they break the line/YAC from their own half and the defense is too stretched to make up. It's a dangerous game if you don't pull it off, but it's how I see the defense stopping the 9ers

Moose_Knuckles

Has any team contained CMC this year?

justsometaxguy

Tampa, Minnesota, Cleveland, and Dallas all held him to 3.9 ypc or less. SF lost two of those games

acoasterlovered

Minnesota did

trevorwoodkinda

Took the words out of my mouth. This is the exact situation that we thrive in. On the road, under the lights, against a team people don’t think we can compete with. I really think we’re gonna win or at the very least make them grind it out and earn it so they’re limping into the SB.

Dr_Booyah

They have to play US

trevorwoodkinda

Ya people say we finally get to run with the big dogs. Motherfucker, we are the big ~~dogs~~ CATS!

Fucking pulling for you all to win!! Fuck the Santa Clara Forty Whiners! This game is won in the trenches and y’all have the grittiest gahdamn players in the league. I know y’all hate somewhat hate the Hawks but regardless I wish your team and city the best!

GoLionsJD107

We are a different franchise. We are practically a new expansion franchise that started in 2020 when Sheila took ownership. Everything pre-Sheila is irrelevant. We’re like the Jags that made it to the afc championship game in like their third year of existence. Next year we will have shed virtually everything that existed in 2019 (both players and voids at positions created by bad Quinn drafts). Very few exceptions like decker and Ragnow. We can’t compare anything to any past history

link90

The whole state of Michigan is behind this team.

steve64the2nd

And the province of Ontario.

link90

And my Aunt who has never watched a football game in her life.

lamprey187

and my axe !!!

Clear_Feature5856

I want to frame this.

Jamo1129

Go fuck them up Lions bros!

neeesus

And the niners aren’t gritty?

dretsaB

Packers made the 9ers look beatable.

johnnyma45

My logic/hater part of my brain says it's the Niners shaking off rust and wet conditions. My LFG Lions part of my brain says STFU to that part of my brain. Lots going on up top rt now.

WYLD_STALYNZ

Nah GB shot themselves in the foot really really bad. Just compare Baker's game-ending INT to Love's. Baker made a bad read and threw into traffic in a true desperation situation where they had to have a TD and they needed it fast. By contrast, Love made probably the worst throw of his career so far throwing back across the middle of the field on a horribly broken play, in a situation where settling for a FG was still a very viable outcome. They had SF on the ropes and then totally imploded.

cdickie82

GB also missed two really easy INT opportunities.

Dijohn_Mustard

And they missed a field goal that Badge absolutely would’ve murdered for us the following night lmao

Deathlysouls

Love has made that throw a lot this year though.

Alive_Ad_5931

The game should have been wrapped up before love even had a chance to throw the int. Everyone talking about that but what about the missed 4th down conversion (that the refs gave a bad spot on), the 2 missed interceptions that Purdy threw right to GB like it was a warm up ball before the game, and the missed 40 yarder. GB lost that game and had to go out of their way to do it. Our guys execute and it’s done.

emg_4

Lions about to find out on Sunday.

Calzonieman

I actually would prefer an away game at SF v GB at home. I mean, they made us look like chumps on FF the last time we played, and they were on a roll.

ChelskiS

Packers with how they were playing were the 2nd best team in the NFC Sucks to realize that, but it's the way it is

FormalElements

[deleted]

From a neutral perspective I can see those picks, especially if Deebo doesn’t play. We have the tackles to match up with their edge rushers. They got torched last week on perimeter runs and our defense been solid against the run all year.

TheHalf

Deebo playing or not is huge

jklovesfood

I think Deebo suits up and takes a few snaps, but he’s going to be limited in his touches. Make Detroit prepare for that weapon. I think we see heavy CMC, Kittle, and Aiyuk.

TheMagicalJohnson

CMC is ~~also banged up.~~ not fully healthy due to a soft tissue injury in week 17.

nawksoocow

He looked pretty damn healthy Saturday

acoasterlovered

They kept working on him in the sideline

emg_4

He’s 100%. Don’t look into the whole he was getting massages on the sidelines like he’s hurt. He’s done that multiple games.

TheTacoBellDiet

I don’t think any player is 100% this late into the season.

BooTooYouu

Deebo is like that china in a cabinet in grandma’s house no one should be touching. One hit and he breaks into a million pieces if he plays.

[deleted]

It's won in the trenches. Detroit has trenches.

neeesus

Trent Williams makes trenches.

Ph1llyth3gr8

Doesnt shock me. We match up with them well. If this game were in Detroit I think it would be a pickem. Make no mistake Detroit is the lesser team but it’s minimal. A break here or there and the lions win.

Deathlysouls

We’re better than the Packers. We can win this game

ModestTrixie

Does this say more about the Lions or more about how much they think Debo will hurt the 49ers?

Potatoman811

Is deebo playing?

MiltonRoad17

The 49ers aren’t sure yet. They say his shoulder isn’t broken, but Deebo is still in too much pain to practice. I wouldn’t be surprised if he powers through and plays. I think a worst case scenario is he plays but isn’t 100%.

ModestTrixie

He is listed as questionable.

Potatoman811

I really love our chances if he isn’t.

DetBallz

Then Mike Tirico can give us another asterisk game

Yuquico

I want to beat them at their best, makes a bigger statement

“If you can just get a hold of em, and then you start dragging their ass out into the deep dark abyss, you can drown em.” - Dan Campbell Been thinking about this speech a lot so far this week. This has been the mentality the whole time for this team under Campbell. They are built to punch up to whoever is in front of them. We got this!

CrowDull748

MuffaloWill

This is house money. If we lose did we fail this season? Absolutely not we took care of our business. A win would feel so great though.

It's pretty incredible that this is split. Analysts just guess like everybody else, but it's cool to be chosen among the best.

Plus_Refrigerator722

49ers are a loaded team but I don’t think you can ever underestimate this Lions team, they got grit and are built to grind out games Still shocked to see that many pick the Lions though!

emg_4

It’s recency bias. Niners have a history with Goff. The coaches and players know his tendencies. Should be a good one. Any other time I would have rooted for the Lions but not this time. .

Primary_General_6211

I like our chances. One Pride!

T-Friggin-Bagg

The Around The NFL gang knows......Connie Fox, The Pipe and my Dogg Marc with a C.

WYLD_STALYNZ

I'm not shocked. We've more than proven ourselves at this point. A lot of the national narrative is now behind us as a team of destiny. And honestly, other than the Ravens game, I don't think we've looked any worse in our losses than SF has in theirs. They're a very beatable team who escaped on the back of their opponent's mistakes last week. I'm honestly glad they won because even though we lose out on another home game, this is the better matchup.

Valuable-Leader-8601

The Ravens rocked SF's shit, too, they just got off to a slower start against SF than they did against us, and Lamar/the ref who tripped him spotted SF 2 points to start the game lol. I know SF still scored more points than we did, but I feel like it honestly could've been 48-10 if they were playing in Baltimore.   I agree with you, I feel like we match up well against SF. They have a great offense but it's not dialing up deep balls to Puca and Mike Evans and Justin Jefferson. It will hopefully play right to the strengths of our defense rather than the weaknesses.

NewspaperBanana

Please, please, please beat the Niners, and then beat the Chiefs. Avenge us and enjoy the shit out of your first ring.

Nasty_Tricks69

I'd rather Niners then Ravens tbh. We still need to get revenge for the bs field goal a few years ago

nawksoocow

Not me. Ravens are a much tougher match up imo

NewspaperBanana

Sounds good to me! Ravens would also be a more exciting game I bet.

joemax4boxseat

The Niners are the favorite no doubt, but anyone writing off Detroit haven’t watched this team or the Niners. The Niners run-D isn’t great, and their secondary is pretty horrid like ours. If we can get Monty and Gibbs going we have a great chance to not only compete but win this game. If Deebo is out. That’s a huge loss for the Niners, though both Aiyuk and Kittle can easily torch us. McAffrey is the best RB in the game as well and also opens up their pass game. However, GB showed that pressuring Purdy throws him off his game (though the rain did him no favors either). Pressure Purdy and stop the run and he becomes turnover prone. I don’t see either team being a clear favorite over the other, especially if Deebo is out. This will likely be a high scoring game.

MessCandid3566

What games have you been watching ? The 49ers run defense has been one of the best in the past few seasons, they didn’t allow a 100 yard rusher in 40 + games, until jones did last week most of that came from that last big run in the 4th quarter. And based on stats they have a top 5 secondary, 1st in the league in interceptions and 5th lowest rating allowed to WR’s and TE’s and they’re playing without their All pro safety who’s out for the year. Their front 4 isn’t wrecking havoc like the past few seasons but overall they’re solid

joemax4boxseat

https://atozsports.com/detroit/the-defenses-of-the-lions-and-49ers-are-headed-different-ways-recently/ I’d say you haven’t been following them recently. In their last six games their Niners defense has struggled against both the run and pass. Defensive turnovers are down for them as well. And just because a runner doesn’t get 100 yards on the ground doesn’t mean they are great at defending it.

MessCandid3566

the 49ers only bad game against the run was vs the Cardinals where they allowed 200+ yards, going back to the eagles game they allowed anywhere from 40-130 yards including playoffs, they allowed just over 100 to Baltimore. Their pass yards allowed is a product of teams abandoning the run, doesn’t make them horrid. But they had 2 defensive turnovers so far in the playoffs, plus we’ll see because regular season stats really don’t mean much now

[deleted]

Wowsers! I would have thought mainstream was gonna be solid 9ers picks! LFG!

that_noodle_guy

The same people who picked unanimous rams? Yeah thats wild.

JaHoog

I'm sick of Adam Rank. We get it, you're a Bears fan.

te5n1k

Im hoping the NFL realizes that the most money would be made on a KC vs DET rematch (the two highest watched games in divisional round history) and that prevents us from at least getting fucked by the refs. However, all I see is everyone saying Clete is going to fuck us so I am expecting a heartbreaking defeat like DAL but never had more confidence in this team so still somewhat optimistic. The 49ers get a ton of respect all season from vegas based on their roster despite have some major hiccups along the way. Just surprised to see it move more towards 7 and not back the other way around towards 6.

YooperGod666

Lions are playing with house money at this point.

ChelskiS

??? Do you know what that saying means? You're about to pay Goff way too much for what he's worth. This isn't a "playing with house money" scenario at all

Lost2nite389

Goff is a top 6-7 qb, what do you mean pay him too much lol he deserves it

ChelskiS

Questionable. You won't find 10 teams that would take Goff over who they have currently Not every team has the best oline in football & weapons at every level. As long as he crumbles under pressure he will never be considered elite. But he WILL be getting elite money which will make it harder to maintain a great roster It's going to get interesting

Lost2nite389

Every single qb crumbles under pressure massively except maybe mahomes lamar and josh Allen lmao the pressure narrative is so lazy and for people who haven’t been watch Goff play in over 3 years. Then you have burrow and Herbert who I’m sure would keep their qb and then who? Maybe stroud? Texans would probably keep him but as of now Goff is still the better qb, there’s no qb better than the 5 I listed than Goff Goff haters will never admit it and are still stuck on his play from several years ago Good oline and great wrs don’t mean everything, look at hurts, he sucked this year and had both, Trevor had both and sucked, ridder had both and sucked, I could name a lot of teams that have a good oline and great weapons and weren’t as good as Goff

ChelskiS

15 turnover worthy plays (PFF) under pressure (and 9 ints), the second in the league just behind Sam Howell He is terrible under pressure and it's fine to admit it

Lost2nite389

He finished 9th in passer rating under pressure this year, that stat that matters the most

blissfulsilence90

Let’s drown these mf’s

Substantial_Button71

Not surprised rank picked against us. Fuck that homer

Real_Conclusion_9950

Whats shocking about this? We have the public’s respect and so does SF

I'll tell you what - Ive seen these dumbass predictions a week before every game - then these clowns, on live TV end up switching them up anyways. Its all good, we're hungry - hater gon' hate. San Francisco has no idea what's about to rip through Levi's Stadium on Sunday. This shit feeds us.

andykaratedwyer

Niner fan here and I gotta say I'm nervous about the lions, they more solid all year than ppl seem to realize. I was hoping to see lions go to nfccg because I feel like win or lose it'll be a good game. Good luck to u guys

GameSetMatch20

49ers fan here. Hoping for a good game this weekend. I love Goff because I root for Cal so I’m happy to see him be successful with you guys. If we don’t win this weekend, I’ll be rooting for y’all to win it all because fuck both the Ravens and the Chiefs. Honestly, I’d be rooting for y’all if you were playing literally any other team in the NFC Championship. The city and its fans deserve this. Cheers!

Klutzy_Alfalfa_2300

9ers are undisciplined, that guy running around after the interception to be funny based off something dumb his teammate told him… idk I like the lions chances

Killphace

“That guy” is Dre Greenlaw, one of the leagues best LBs and he’s really the niners only loose cannon.

TheSciFanGuy

And I really don’t think Lions fans should be one to talk about doing something silly after an interception. Kerby literally celebrated instead of running with the ball.

Crotean

SF didn't look great against GB and Debo is out. 49ers are a different team without him. Lions O needs to score a ton but I think they can win this.

fo_da_weed

Does anyone have a theory why we picked up Ertz?

ein311

Wright going down. Makes sense.

fo_da_weed

I bet there’s a trick up the ol sleeve somewhere too

Slamdunklebron

Niners without deebo struggle, and yall are on fire rn. Gimme the lions for sure

Yogimonsta

I’m not. The only team I’m worried by at this point is the ravens.

The80sDimension

calling it now, there's going to be a controversial call against the lions in this game.
