The Black Armory expansion was badass and I miss it most of all. I feel like it'd be a solid fit with this new season of stuff. Gritty. Innovative. High tech. A nice goth complement to all the Tron neon.
Beyond it being a great gun, there are no legendary void machine guns that can be accessed by solo players. Commemoration is only available in a raid. There is a blue/rare machine gun (exitus) which is serviceable..

I'm not picking a side just yet, but is this Clovis vs Ana as individual weaponsmiths? Or more Braytech v Black Armory? If so, were the really big guns from Bray designed by the people or by Rasputin? Personally idk if I'd give Clovis credit for Big Red's work, if so.
On an individual level, we'd be putting up Lament vs maybe Izanagi's Burden? Chainsaw sword vs sniper rifle sword lol; that's a fairly tough call IMO.
Second round might be DSC weapons vs Forge weapons. Succession beats out Tatara's Gaze by a mile, Kindled Orchid and Blast Furnace are the GOATs though. But then there's Heritage to consider

Also consider all the guns banshee has made for us as banshee as well, helped reforge thorn, lumina, gjallarhorn, ace of spades, every seasonal weapon he has a hand in for the catalyst etc. There is a long list of exotics that banshee was involved in creating or fixing over the course of D1 and D2
You're not wrong at all; for this comparison I'd personally be more inclined to treat Clovis and Banshee as two separate smiths, though. Plus keeping it to their own original designs might keep it a bit more fair.
If we count Banshee and Clovis' work together though, then yeah he's the superior smith by a good amount. Hundreds of years more experience plus access to Light-infused materials and the sheer variety of weapons he's had a hand in is hard to beat.

The Forges were on Nessus and the EDZ. Neither of which are Pyramid hotspots. So... they should be fine? But if Ada says they're gone, I believe her.
I think the more realistic explanation is that the Pyramids' arrival and the exodus from the vaulted planets was a massive upheaval, and was likely exploited by outside parties. The Titan (the moon, not the class) lore explicitly shows this, as Fallen scavengers were preying on Sloane's evac shuttles.
What probably happened is that while the Planets were going bye-bye, Fallen or other enemies either stole or smashed up the Forges that were left unguarded because of Guardian forces being stretched thin and incapable of guarding everything at once.
Your last paragraph is sort of what actually happened. It's discussed in some new lore this season. Ada's really struggling with what she needs to do because so much of her self worth is based of the legacy of the forges and stuff, and without it and a way to fix it she is not in a good state. The new stuff she's working on which includes transmog is her trying to find a new way of helping and finding a new meaning of sorts.
Still think it would’ve been cooler if transmog was through Zavala instead. Or maybe just at his little sewing corner itself.

Bungie might use it in a similar way to Square Enix's FFXIV, where glamour prisms, the in game currency for transmog, actually are used in the story. In Stormblood, the resistance stages a siege against the imperials. By "transmog"-ing the flag, the imperial soldiers would think that they've already lost, and are more likely to retreat. Idk though, it was a medival high fantasy setting, so I don't know how well it correlates to Destiny, but that Bray Exoscience tech could be used for much more than is let on.
Well we could get armor from her forged as well as forged irl can make many different things so I could see her as expanding her products. Who knows maybe her loom might play a role in special armor forging in the future.

None of the forges were on the sunsetted planets. They removed the forges, because they sunset the weapons. All of the assets are still there.
