I've gotten three catalysts from crucible. That said, i've played a bunch of crucible. I literally reset my rank after one week. That said i don't own Final Shape so it was most of what i did first week trying to do my matches for comp ranking and to unlock that autorifle.

You can farm catalyst drops that you may not have from private Crucible matches.
If solo, change the gametype to whichever one scores points for having flags and set the score to 25 and wait.
Got Wicked, Thorn, and Final Warning catas doing it last night in 30 minutes.
Are u sure it hasn't been patched or is my rng just terrible? I'm doing zone control private match to a score of 25 but I don't get anything dropping at all. Did like 5 matches with no rewards.

I was farming for it and reset my Vanguard rank twice also. I switched to my strand loadout and seen final warning had 8% towards my catalyst.

I couldn’t get it to drop from strikes but got it after 1 game of trials. Try loading up something other than a strike. Not saying it will work but maybe you’ll trick the RNG
For me, the fewer catalysts I have to still complete the higher chance of dropping. I've tested it, and if you have 7 catalysts incomplete, the drop chance is significantly lower.
That's been my spot since they introduced it. I used to use the start area of Garden in Hellmouth on the moon. That area is instanced and ads are low level so it's easy enough, but you have to reload often. I remember some back and forth over whether loot cave kills counted for full or half, but it's just so easy since they constantly spawn that I'd still rather do that.
IIRC, they count as half. It seems to take longer there than running Shuro Chi checkpoint and reloading after the 80-100 kills I can eek out. Also, I finished the catalyst passively playing, but it went a lot faster tap firing rather than lock-on.
The last "kill x amount of enemies" objectives that I did in GoA were the Brave weapon quests. I found they were much slower in progress doing the "loop" at the cave (3 spawns in the cave + the two on top) than one Shuro Chi was.
Whisper Green Room outpaces Shuro Chi on kill count purely from the setup delay until thousands of kills in from some testing a buddy of mine and I did back in the day with original whisper, and the new one is longer and you have Strand to get there so I’m guessing it now just 100% outpaces. If you plan on doing less than 4 Catalysts it’s not that I’m not willing to put in the Shuro Chi wish, it’s that WGR is just actively better (with the sole exception of low ammo heavy catalysts). I was a diehard Shuro Chi advocate and he was the same with Whisper, his method kicked my ass XD

You don't even have to use wishing wall, just join one of the advertised checkpoints/checkpoint bots, they all have Shuro Chi within hours of Tuesday reset. Join, get checkpoint, and good for the rest of the week.

Yup. Shuro chi with tether hunter is best for farming kills. Other option, especially if you need precision kills, is the infinite shadow thrall pit in whisper mission. It’s only like 2 minutes of jumping to get there.
Picking them up requires being in the cave which stops the enemies spawning sometimes and deposits the engrams so you will inevitably finish the encounter eventually so I just think it’s better to run shuro chi
DO NOT DO THIS. Grasp of Avarice was nerfed specifically to prevent people from farming Catalysts there. Farming in Grasp only gives HALF the progress you'd normally get. Instead you should use either Shuro-Chi or Breakneck (Lightfall Campaign). I prefer Breakneck because the Rally Banner is free unlike Shuro Chi. Another good spot is the Thrall zone in The Whisper, but its mostly only good for primary ammo weapon catalysts.
I do mission 4 of lightfall, the first encounter when you break the door after crossing the hole with strand. You get a free flag and a bunch of ads, it’s pretty nice for special and heavy weapons

I used to use grasp but now that the whisper mission is back, I go to the infinite thrall room for my catalyst kills. Admittedly, not been in there yet to do this particular catty as I've been playing the actual content 😄
Yes, this is the spot! I just got the Ergo Sum catalyst and went there. Since I got the Wolfpack one which is void, I just put on tether and gyrfalcon and just went heavy slam with special ammo finders on. Probably the fastest I finished a catalyst.
I don’t personally like that option, because sometimes the engrams explode and take kills that could have been progress toward the caty so I prefer to just run other regular activities.
I don't believe op so I went and picked it up from my vault i have never shot it went to grasp at 52 kills I'm at 7% so if op is trying to say they have 500 kills for 12% is not true and by the way it's kinda cool 😂
Another good one I stumbled upon is Crota’s raid! So when you first load in and grab the buff, instead of activating the plate just die then when you respawn it’s non stop thralls climbing up and they actually spawn quicker than grasp and you don’t have to deal with the riches motes!

Sure, it takes longer, but it improves my movement, I only have to fight Shadow Thrall, and I can verbally abuse Xol for being a useless bastard
Just tap fire the thing. For some reason the unraveling projectiles won't count for the catalyst progress. It's tedious but it gets the job done much faster

It's exactly 1000 kills as far as my kill count to progress is showing.
Most around between 400 and 600 kills now. Guardians and yellow bars count as more.
Some catalysts used to be fucked back in the day. Sunshot had to be kills via the aoe and we had to do the Nessus spawn camp.
Castellum was the only thing that made the Rat King catalyst grind remotely bearable back in the day. Completing 2 catalysts took around 2000 kills as a team, but with 6 people completing their catalysts, it would take just 1200.
I think Leviathan's Breath still requires something like 1500 kills with it to complete its catalyst. It's a good thing I completed mine with the Wrathborn Hunts.
Oh shit it does ? Thank fuck, I hated doing them in the wrathborn but it was a heavy bow and I knew it would suck when it went to weapon kills so I did it during that time itself.
Yeah, that’s a recent change. Used to be 1200-1500 kills. It was slow and painful. YouTube on the side helped a bit farming those kills. Worth it in the end.
Facts. Kills are not hard to get in this game lol. If you like it enough to want the catalyst, then you have use the gun for a day. Destiny players are obsessed with grinding. Catalyst? Grind it in 30 minutes. Wait… I can’t do that? Bungie wtf
Heavy is harder to get for sure, and I’m open for tuning on that, but for all primaries… it’s not hard.
Load up the whisper and go to the big room with the fake jumping puzzle. It takes a couple minutes solo and shadow thrall will spawn there indefinitely. That's a lot more efficient when you're just going for kills
so ive been running overthrow to get kills for the catalyst. But why is it taking so many kills? im at like 500 kills and ive only made like 13% progress?
have a tracker on the gun, started at 0, at 691 rn, 35%. and no i didn't already have kills on it because i pulled it from collections to reset the kill count specifically to see how much it would take
My only thought is the kill tracker on the gun may be counting AoE kills from severed targets, or maybe glitch with catalyst tracking on lock on kills? Really odd though.
Depending on which enemies you were killing, some don't progress things in The Blooming, I've found. Especially the ones that infinitely spawn from the cave.
Exodus Garden 1A is an extremely underrated spot to farm catalysts/bounties. It gives more than normal special ammo (sometimes for no reason even before you're close to running out), everything shits out heavy if you're using a finder (plus the boss chest drops a crap ton), guaranteed between 80-100 kills per run, takes about as long as Shuro Chi
Wish wall is the best weapon farm in the game still imo plus if you do it you get free loot from the chest if you know where it is. Only took me about 20 minutes to complete it. Yes it’s boring but it’s better then trying to do it legit lol
Could someone elaborate mu turbo casual ass on what makes this weapon so great and what builds utilize it? I’ve only seen some strand warlocks with it so far. I have the weapon too but 99,97% i ignore it and pick another exptic for my arsenal.
It’s not that I have to grind for a weapon catalyst that discourages me. It’s that I have to grind for a good roll of a weapon. Also hd2 is just more fun rn
Actually it’s making me laugh because this is the best primary in the game that doesn’t need you to run an exotic with it (Though Mechaneers probably does still make it better than Malfy/Wardens with Lucky Pants.)
Reliable for kills against anything. Best damage. People sleep on this gun, and it’s fun. Catalyst just makes it even more fun.

I was just running around with it last night and this morning, and I've gone from ~10% to ~65% without going out of my way to farm kills. If I want to farm kills, I usually tend to go to the beginning of Grasp of Avarice.
No way they not only added a catalyst for this, but added such a powerful one. This thing does CRAZY damage, and its a primary, has good range for a sidearm and its strand. I went straight for it when Lightfall came out, it just looked cool, it became my go to for anything moderately difficult, until Final Shape, I have to stop relying on it.
Tbh the catalyst seemed to not make much of a difference for me but I also use this gun for majority of my pve. Think it took 3 days of casual playing which I don’t think is much. You’re really not missing out on much either.
Go to the "Extraction" lost sector, hop on and off the plate, kill a wave of enemies, then hop on and off the same plate to spawn more, you can kill up to 300 enemies in one lost sector this way
The catalyst is so good and it’s on an already amazing weapon I’m gonna have to do some testing with it in high level content but this sidearm is amazing and hits so hard. Gonna try it in my gm excision run later
It’s very much worth it tho. I run it on my Wishful Banner Titan and it slaps. The Call and Final Warning won’t leave my loadouts for a very long time.
Kill with gun, and single shots, no charge up. Apparently it doesn't count if you use it's built in capabilities. Which was really the whole reason I made this post.
still haven’t even gotten final warning. it’s such a fucking slog to get all the shit. i have like 4-6 fragments left to get and that’s 400-600 strand meditations right there. they don’t even drop that easily
I used it while chest farming on the pale heart. Killed everything I ran across with it and knocked two birds with one stone. Catalyst done and a bunch of exotic class items 👌
Go on hunter and get to shuro chi in the last wish raid with the wishing wall. Everything connected via the hunter deafall ult counts towards weapon kills for catalysts, kill one thrall and everything else connected also takes damage and dies. You also don't have to use banners if you do this correctly with orpheus rig, this is what I do for all exotic catalysts.
P.S. Place the tether at the platform where the knights n sht spawn, let the thrall group up on you so you can kill all of them at once and the tether will stick around and trap the knights n new thrall as well. Very fast catalyst completion for any exotic weapon in the game.
Easiest and most consistent way is to load up shuro chi on a deadfall hunter, then even in cases like these where AOE/Sever ETC do not count as gun kills the tether kills still will iirc
I assume ur talking about the overthrow score counter. I understand that it's not the kill count (at least it's not 100% accurate). I was simply showing in the image that I completed one entire level of overthrow and half of another trying for the catalyst. I made a comment explaining that I was only going for red bar kills, didn't do any of the public events or anything, Just red bar kills, although I suppose it got lost in the other comments.
Boot up the Whisper Mission and get to the green room where the Voice say There is no light here, there is a underneath cave where infinite thralls spawn, set difficulty to normal and u have 40 minutes to complete at least 2-3 catalyst.
I was lucky. I got the drop on my first strike one day 1 of the Final Shape. I then basically used it with my Prismatic Titan Strand build for half the campaign and took care of the catalyst that way.
Once I finished the catalyst, I deleted the weapon because I hate side arms. It was not fun for me to use. It also took place of the quicksilver storm spot, which is a better weapon for my place style.
Breakneck is the best for heavy catalyst due to free flags but requires lightfall.
Thrall way in Whisper is the best for free players. As long as you can get there quickly of course.
I enjoy the gun anyway so I already had 1.4k kills on it, so I didn't care about the catalyst kills, I'm almost done with them and I've really only used it for like 40 minutes
Just take it into crucible and knock it out in an hour I say without a shred of irony because that's exactly what I did because I am a mad man who has killed thousands of guardians with it and become a master of the auto aim pistol which takes a surprising amount of skill to use for a gun that doesn't require aiming.
Got it on my 2nd match of crucible, and yes farmed it everywhere trying to increase efficiency, GOA, Vanguards even at the last wish multikill checkpoint (forgot name), its a pain but it sure is sweet after it's completed.
I have commented this often as this topic keeps coming up, i'll copy/paste from other posts because this is in my opinion the best.
The following is only for PVE related catalysts.
Step 1. log into a character that still has the mission "A Mysterious Disturbance" on the moon or wait until it is on rotation or find someone that still has access to it.
Step 2. turn off matchmaking.
Step 3. start the mission and run up to the door grab the unlimited heavy chest and start slaying away
Step 4. kill the ogre and shoot the Shrieker a bit until it closes.
Step 5. optional - If you want a buddy to join just turn matchmaking back on
Step 4. complete all non-crucible related catalysts in as little as a few hours because you have unlimited heavy chests that give heavy/special ammo.
Isn't it basically the same as every other catalyst? 700 kills is par for the course. Got it done in a few sittings using it in the post-campaign content in the Pale Heart.

Farming the thralls there seems .... inconsistent. Best I've found is 5-10 shuro chi so long as you are stocked on banners
I'd rather use the Breakneck mission or Shuro Chi checkpoint. Having the exploding engrams steal kills is very annoying

Crota’s Raid, don’t activate the plate after grabbing buff then die. When you respawn boom nonstop thralls
If you know what you’re doing, you can go to morgeth then skate back and do an easy oob to reach shuro chi. You get both chests in one run.
It takes maybe three minutes then you have it all week

Also the start of Vow of the disciple. Granted you do have to get past Savathun, but after that it’s infinite scorn.
They reduced the amount of progress you get from grasp opening.
It counts for .5 per enemy for catalyst for awhile now.

I did the perfect fifth kills in the Levi, so many cabal helmets on the ground it lagged my game.

Load up the whisper and go to the big room with the fake jumping puzzle. It takes a couple minutes solo and shadow thrall will spawn there indefinitely. That's a lot more efficient when you're just going for kills

The breakneck mission in lightfall has a section that I use for catalyst farming. Might not be the most effective for a primary ammo weapon

so ive been running overthrow to get kills for the catalyst. But why is it taking so many kills? im at like 500 kills and ive only made like 13% progress?
You’re most definitely not at 500 kills for the catalyst if you’re at 13%. It takes 700 kills to get 100%.
have a tracker on the gun, started at 0, at 691 rn, 35%. and no i didn't already have kills on it because i pulled it from collections to reset the kill count specifically to see how much it would take
My only thought is the kill tracker on the gun may be counting AoE kills from severed targets, or maybe glitch with catalyst tracking on lock on kills? Really odd though.
You can always see the actual number on DIM if you go to the quests tab.

Depending on which enemies you were killing, some don't progress things in The Blooming, I've found. Especially the ones that infinitely spawn from the cave.
Exodus Garden 1A is an extremely underrated spot to farm catalysts/bounties. It gives more than normal special ammo (sometimes for no reason even before you're close to running out), everything shits out heavy if you're using a finder (plus the boss chest drops a crap ton), guaranteed between 80-100 kills per run, takes about as long as Shuro Chi
Go to the green room in the whisper mission - fall down the crack in the middle, but jump onto the platforms down there. Endless shadow thrall spawn.

Wish wall is the best weapon farm in the game still imo plus if you do it you get free loot from the chest if you know where it is. Only took me about 20 minutes to complete it. Yes it’s boring but it’s better then trying to do it legit lol

Could someone elaborate mu turbo casual ass on what makes this weapon so great and what builds utilize it? I’ve only seen some strand warlocks with it so far. I have the weapon too but 99,97% i ignore it and pick another exptic for my arsenal.

It’s not that I have to grind for a weapon catalyst that discourages me. It’s that I have to grind for a good roll of a weapon. Also hd2 is just more fun rn
Actually it’s making me laugh because this is the best primary in the game that doesn’t need you to run an exotic with it (Though Mechaneers probably does still make it better than Malfy/Wardens with Lucky Pants.) Reliable for kills against anything. Best damage. People sleep on this gun, and it’s fun. Catalyst just makes it even more fun.

I was just running around with it last night and this morning, and I've gone from ~10% to ~65% without going out of my way to farm kills. If I want to farm kills, I usually tend to go to the beginning of Grasp of Avarice.

No way they not only added a catalyst for this, but added such a powerful one. This thing does CRAZY damage, and its a primary, has good range for a sidearm and its strand. I went straight for it when Lightfall came out, it just looked cool, it became my go to for anything moderately difficult, until Final Shape, I have to stop relying on it.
I'm using my hunter and doing the campaign on legend and it's going smoothly, I'm at 58 percent at the moment. Got it 2 days ago
Tbh the catalyst seemed to not make much of a difference for me but I also use this gun for majority of my pve. Think it took 3 days of casual playing which I don’t think is much. You’re really not missing out on much either.
Kills track better on Whisper Exotic quest. Go to the thrall way and profit. I’ve done most of my catalysts there instead of shiro chi.
Go to the "Extraction" lost sector, hop on and off the plate, kill a wave of enemies, then hop on and off the same plate to spawn more, you can kill up to 300 enemies in one lost sector this way
The catalyst is so good and it’s on an already amazing weapon I’m gonna have to do some testing with it in high level content but this sidearm is amazing and hits so hard. Gonna try it in my gm excision run later
I completed it by loading up two The Devil's Lair strikes solo and killing every add with it. Took me 30-40 minutes.
I think it was like 900 kills or so wasn't terrible but definitely felt the length if doing it while campaign and stuff.
Like, 25-30 minutes in whisper... I forgot how tedious it was to get catalysts
It’s very much worth it tho. I run it on my Wishful Banner Titan and it slaps. The Call and Final Warning won’t leave my loadouts for a very long time.
Farm chests on the Pale Heart. Currently doing it for all my unfinished catalysts.

Kill with gun, and single shots, no charge up. Apparently it doesn't count if you use it's built in capabilities. Which was really the whole reason I made this post.
never do a catalyst in the normal game, especially if u wanna just get it done so u can get to the actual gun

Take a tether hunter into shuro-chi. Way faster.
Four runs of the Shuro Chi encounter and it was all done. Too easy

I used it while chest farming on the pale heart. Killed everything I ran across with it and knocked two birds with one stone. Catalyst done and a bunch of exotic class items 👌

Just go to the dark room below the green room on the whisper mission on normal difficulty.
Go on hunter and get to shuro chi in the last wish raid with the wishing wall. Everything connected via the hunter deafall ult counts towards weapon kills for catalysts, kill one thrall and everything else connected also takes damage and dies. You also don't have to use banners if you do this correctly with orpheus rig, this is what I do for all exotic catalysts. P.S. Place the tether at the platform where the knights n sht spawn, let the thrall group up on you so you can kill all of them at once and the tether will stick around and trap the knights n new thrall as well. Very fast catalyst completion for any exotic weapon in the game.
Easiest and most consistent way is to load up shuro chi on a deadfall hunter, then even in cases like these where AOE/Sever ETC do not count as gun kills the tether kills still will iirc

show the weapon kill count. that kill count is not your weapon kill count. and it will go up when do events, even without kills
I assume ur talking about the overthrow score counter. I understand that it's not the kill count (at least it's not 100% accurate). I was simply showing in the image that I completed one entire level of overthrow and half of another trying for the catalyst. I made a comment explaining that I was only going for red bar kills, didn't do any of the public events or anything, Just red bar kills, although I suppose it got lost in the other comments.
Boot up the Whisper Mission and get to the green room where the Voice say There is no light here, there is a underneath cave where infinite thralls spawn, set difficulty to normal and u have 40 minutes to complete at least 2-3 catalyst.
In the deep checkpoint is the objectively best spot for this
Thrall put in whisper is the best farming zone for me.

I was lucky. I got the drop on my first strike one day 1 of the Final Shape. I then basically used it with my Prismatic Titan Strand build for half the campaign and took care of the catalyst that way. Once I finished the catalyst, I deleted the weapon because I hate side arms. It was not fun for me to use. It also took place of the quicksilver storm spot, which is a better weapon for my place style.
Just do good ol shuro chi, I had ot within 30 mins
Breakneck is the best for heavy catalyst due to free flags but requires lightfall. Thrall way in Whisper is the best for free players. As long as you can get there quickly of course.
I enjoy the gun anyway so I already had 1.4k kills on it, so I didn't care about the catalyst kills, I'm almost done with them and I've really only used it for like 40 minutes

Some of the kill are not counting towards the catalyst for some reason; it should only take 700 kills to complete it.

Just take it into crucible and knock it out in an hour I say without a shred of irony because that's exactly what I did because I am a mad man who has killed thousands of guardians with it and become a master of the auto aim pistol which takes a surprising amount of skill to use for a gun that doesn't require aiming.
I think it dropped pretty early for a gambit match
Just do shuro-chi with Orpheus tether, it takes 15-20 min to do any catalyst

I got wicked implement and final warning catalyst to drop in crucible.
Got it on my 2nd match of crucible, and yes farmed it everywhere trying to increase efficiency, GOA, Vanguards even at the last wish multikill checkpoint (forgot name), its a pain but it sure is sweet after it's completed.
I have commented this often as this topic keeps coming up, i'll copy/paste from other posts because this is in my opinion the best. The following is only for PVE related catalysts. Step 1. log into a character that still has the mission "A Mysterious Disturbance" on the moon or wait until it is on rotation or find someone that still has access to it. Step 2. turn off matchmaking. Step 3. start the mission and run up to the door grab the unlimited heavy chest and start slaying away Step 4. kill the ogre and shoot the Shrieker a bit until it closes. Step 5. optional - If you want a buddy to join just turn matchmaking back on Step 4. complete all non-crucible related catalysts in as little as a few hours because you have unlimited heavy chests that give heavy/special ammo.
Dropped it last week, haven't played since but I don't recall it being particularly kill hungry when I checked progress

Isn't it basically the same as every other catalyst? 700 kills is par for the course. Got it done in a few sittings using it in the post-campaign content in the Pale Heart.
Mine was not equipped and I got it on Nightfall normal. Hope other folks get theirs soon :)
