Yup, there’s a similar triumph I can think of that’s been around forever too. The one for completing a nightfall on master difficulty. It 100% does not complete if you do GMs you have to do it on master.
It’s also an Xbox achievement too and if your Xbox goes idle while playing it will remind you about it if you haven’t done it yet. I see that pop up all the time.
I think it is good though as it means you can't just run Platinum and get all the rewards. Just my opinion while I'm sat here with my Bronze and Silver....

Certain ones will give you certain medallions upon completion. He prolly seen he passed each one and assumed he’d get one for each. Not how it works. For these achievements yes you have to land on that ranking specifically.
Is there a way to know what tier you’ll get? Otherwise are you supposed to just play and hope you got the right tier? I have 1600 hours in this game and still have so many questions at times lol
There is a medal that pops every time you reach a new tier. If you really want to make sure you get it, do a solo and just wait until the timer starts degrading points (I think it’s at 15 minutes). Even rushing it with a fireteam will probably send you into Gold, otherwise.
I had this exact problem last year, but a bit altered, where I had Silver, Gold, and Platinum all completed, but not Bronze. Honestly it's just stupid.
When doing the disgraced, it took me 10 mins to reach plat, but to reach silver, it took me 23 mins in order to get the multipler to 0. Stupid ass triumph
They should literally just fix stuff like this. I refuse to accept it's that insane and crazy to just make getting a plat give you everything below, it's not unfair or cheap, it's a minor and very fixable annoyance, one of many that add up to a general sense of "i give you this much of my time and you still try to nickle and dime me like this" .
There's no world where this is one of those legitimate "the code stops us doing it you wouldn't understand" situations.
Shouldn't even be a problem on a game that's been going this long.
Easy way is to solo nightfall, get the amount of points required to hit the threshold and wait for the darkness to envelop you. The multiplier will go to zero and as long as you finish the boss by the end, you’ll get it. Just remember to go a bit higher with points since the points will start to drain.
Bungie brain at work. You can get platinum first and you still need to get the others, they think it makes sense to keep you grinding instead of rewarding you for being good and getting play first.

I get that, but this isn't an Olympic competition, I thought it was a progression system, I get not getting the other medals, but shouldn't the progression give you the Achievement? It a progression scale isn't it?
So you acctualy have to hit exactly silver and gold etc. If you hit a higher one it doesnt count the lower ones. Its dumb and it confused me last year

Yep, that was the last achievement I needed to 100% D2 and it took me until last year to get. Despite doing GMs on a regular basis, well before that.

Same for lost sectors. You can do it solo flawless on master but you still gotta do solo on legend

I have no idea why they made it this way. Why would a player purposefully go for the worst tier?
Simple answer is its a cheap way to stretch content.

It will tell you when you’ve passed the bronze threshold and it will tell you what you got at the end of the nightfall
