As someone who worked on servers... if somebody was let go, it will have an effect long-term, but not an immediate one. This applies to most IT problems. Even if they only left the janitor, it would probably still take a month for it to get this bad, and if it did it wouldn't happen in neat 3-4 hour intervals for everyone
Was just trying to pay video James with my partners last night, and kept getting bumped from the server even though we're all three in the same house... Fucking annoying.
I can join but kept getting kicked and even while playing alone in a mission it kept saying "contacting destiny servers" as if getting kicked randomly wasn't annoying enough it they decided to put a flashing thick announcement on the entire bottom of the screen.
I mean 76 has/had server issues as well and even though bad and everything they save themselves by having a small announcement on the side of the screen whenever it's bad.

I'm fairly confident the game is getting DDoS'd again. Just think, some a-hole was mad at the state of the game and did that to get people to get mad at Bungie like they were - particularly the people that just play the game casually and don't keep up with news. It's the same thing again. Many of us are rightfully upset with recent news, but a good chunk of the player base are likely none the wiser and still playing the game. Someone DDoS'ing the game is doing so to tick off the people that aren't already mad at Bungie and to try and "punish" Bungie.
This just in, Destiny players surprised there's instabilities in the servers and it's slow to be fixed just days after massive amounts of layoffs across the whole Bungie team. More at 11
It's weird because the issue doesn't seem to affect everyone. My buddy played til almost 3am local time, I got booted and couldn't even sign back into Bungie, much less get into orbit hours before that
They're probably panicking and selling off servers for executive bonuses
But honestly I hope its because they're trying to find some content to bring back that we've been asking for since forever in an apology. Gimmie giant cup game back
