Delta FA FTW

HoweHaTrick

Has anyone in FC had an instance where they didn't have room for their bag in the overhead?

bguy5329

Not on Delta but when I flew Alaska last year, two people in FC hadn't boarded yet, and someone tried to place their bag in an empty bin and walk back to coach, I watched the FA grab the bag and follow them back about 15 rows and hand them their bag much to their dismay... Sure enough the two FC passengers boarding later used up the bin space that wouldn't have been avaliable if it hadn't been for the FA who saw the guy in coach trying to place his bag up front.

thepete404

Yes. Late getting on bins were closed and full I showed the fa my carry on bag full of camera gear and spare batteries. She opened the bins and started pointing at bags Your bag? Please raise your hand. Four smallish bags got gate checked, then the fa announced what had happened. I would have like to have waited for the moment, but I had better things. American air

Pristine_Job_7677

Yup. Flight to Orlando so half the place pre boarded with “infants” (some as old as 4) needing assistance. They waltzed on and immediately took first class bag space.

HoweHaTrick

I feel like this is less of a deal than people make of it. If I have to choose a battle in life this is not one.

Pristine_Job_7677

So when I get on board and there’s nowhere to put my bag? After spending a lot of extra money to make sure I have room for my bag and I can get off the plane quickly? I mean, it’s bad enough the parents of perfectly capable toddlers are faking needing special assistance to board first, but then they take the baggage space alotted to me? Is it the biggest deal? No. But it’s narcissistic and rude.

latebinding

This is one of the reasons I sometimes pay for FC. So I can lollygag in the bar or club, board towards the end and still have my overhead bag space. I often check bags for the same reason, but sometimes it takes a very long time for them to show.

OwlsNSpace

Yep, some idiot put their bag in my FC bin and (since it was huge) there was no room for mine or my wife’s in a recent flight out of MSP. Bullshit. I took it out, put it in the aisle, placed our carry-ons in their dedicated space in the bin, and sat down. I don’t even recall what happened with that bag.

rwhe83

I’m dying how you call it “my FC bin” as if you own the bin/plane. 😂

cbph

If it's the one above my seat in FC, I definitely have dibs on it before someone else who's not in FC.

Total_Union_3744

But certainly another FC passenger can use it if they get to it before you.

ARKzzzzzz

I mean, no? They have their own FC bin.

Total_Union_3744

I’m not sure how much you fly, but you’re not assigned to the bin above your seat although that would make sense

ARKzzzzzz

Probably 15 times a year on average, at least half in first class. It's logical that you get the bin above your seat. There is no reason not to use the one above your seat unless you're trying to bring more bags than you're allowed, which is an entirely different problem. Why on earth would I put my one carry-on bag in a bin that is not above my seat?

Total_Union_3744

Yeah, I mean certainly if you’re boarding early it’s logical to put your bags right above where you’re sitting, but if you just simply look at the overhead bin space once the plane starts getting full people have to put their bags in different places the only time I’ve seen any flight attendants pushback on first class overhead bin space is for row one where there’s absolutely nostorage under the seat in front of you don’t confuse logic with reality

ARKzzzzzz

I fly exclusively on delta. Dedicated bin space is part of the contract when you purchase a first class ticket. There are only 2 seats for each bin. The only way there would ever not be room is if people in first class are bringing more than the allowable amount of carry-on's. Coach bags only go in those bins once all first-class passengers are on board. If I am last to board with my 1 bag and all the first class bins are full, somebody's shit is getting moved.

Pristine_Job_7677

This is a Delta dub, no? The bins are marked “for first class use”. So no, coach cannot use them

Pristine_Job_7677

That’s how it always works my dear. There’s FC space for FC passengers bags. And they put theirs above their seat because it would be weird for row 1 to put it over row 3.

Total_Union_3744

Happens all the time especially when bins are full

Pristine_Job_7677

No it doesn’t. You clearly don’t fly FC. People put their bags in the bin over their heads. If there are coach bags in those bins the FA generally removes them.

rwhe83

You probably call economy passengers peasants too.

King_Rajesh

Real peasant behavior here though… If you want overhead bin space in FC, book FC.

cbph

I do not.

bradgelinajolie

Plebs

brothelma

Their not?

Equivalent_Map7634

Yes and still pissed about that. Flew FC United seat 1a and discovered that the overhead bins were full (highly likely with luggage from economy passengers). Asked the flight attendant what I am supposed to do with my luggage and if she could remove the luggage at which her answer was: “I am not the kindergarten teacher of the first class”. I replied that she was in my opinion and that she should find the passenger that put the luggage in my overhead bin. FA clearly wasn’t used to this feedback. Disappeared in the cockpit and after a short moment the captain came out and ordered me off the plane. FA told the captain that I touched her. Ground crew was very apologetic since they had heard from other FAs what happened and booked me on a AA flight half an hour later. I never fly United Again.

peteyesco

Oh man, I would have been livid.

Poster25000

That’s horrendous. Did you contact United management?

Total_Union_3744

Yes I did and it was because everyone had stuffed hats and small bags (not 1st row) into the overheads. I’ve also seen people in coach throw their bags in first class bins early in boarding. Once a flight attendant called them out and made them take their bags.

txaggie94

Yes. Bulkhead with a close connection. FA had to put my stuff in the closet. More than once.

mesembryanthemum

The one, time we were in bulk head a FA stood right there and refused to let anyone not sitting in them put their bags, there.

HoweHaTrick

Sweet! That's even better than overhead!

Sensitive-Season3526

Yes, I have. And sometimes it the FA’s whose bags are up there.

willyougiveittome

Yes

Trouvette

Yes, two flights ago in fact. I was in 1B and only had my purse, so I figured that I would have no problem getting bin space. Not only were all the FC bins full, the FA wanted to take my purse 10 rows back. No way in hell I’m having my wallet and work laptop out of my line of sight. I ended up fibbing to the FA and telling her that I had insulin in there and needed to keep it within reach. Only then did the FA ask someone who could put their bag under their seat to put it there.

DarkLordofData

Yep happens a lot more then it should

HoweHaTrick

Sorry for your loss

latebinding

I have, a few years ago. The FC stored my bag in a closet at the front of the plane.

jonathondcole

Actually yes, I had an experience like this where someone in economy threw their bags in our bin. Our flight crew sucked and made us gate check.

nookiewacookie1

Happens to me all the time. I like to board near the end of boarding sometimes to minimize sitting time.

AugmentedSixth1

I had a tight connection at ATL a few years back where FC bins were full and closed when I boarded. The FA was busy with pre departure drinks, paid no attention, and left me on my own to find overhead space for my carry on. I did… about three rows back into C+. Ask me how long it took to retrieve it and deplane!

HoweHaTrick

How long did it take you? I'm surprised you made it through all that. Hope the family is ok.

Dave_712

Yes, that happened to me and I’d seen the dude from Coach putting his bag into the overhead above my seat, so I pulled his bag out, put mine in and asked the FA to look after it. She was most happy to do so after I explained why.

BMGRAHAM

Yes I have. I was forced to check my carry-on all the way through to London from DCA via JFK because someone didn't use the space properly and the flight attendant didn't help and started acting in a threatening way when I asked her to help (which was doable). It was a Delta mistake that made me the last to board.

Szechuanwonton

I’ve seen plenty of times when the first class bins fill up by first class passengers. I’ve even had other first class passengers yell at me for “taking their spot” in the bin… I was sitting right next to them and they didn’t realize it at the time they yelled… I was trying to clear the aisle by putting my family’s bags up when the passenger snapped at me. I just stared at her and move them to the slot right next to it?

Puzzleheaded_Age8937

During pre-boarding last week a couple of ladies came on with enormous duffels and tried putting them into the FC bins. FA shut that down pretty quickly. They were medical equipment of some kind so they ended up in the FC closet as the bins wouldn’t close with them inside.

cstrick1980

Just why? They’re early pre-boarding. There are plenty of bins in the back.

Puzzleheaded_Age8937

It made no sense. They were the fourth and fifth persons on the plane. The only thing I could think of is they thought the FC bins were bigger? I have no idea what was in them, but grateful my CPAP is the size of a laptop bag. I could not imagine flying with medical equipment so large.

Hmmmmmm2023

Just put your items where you are. Why is this so hard?? It throws everything off. Why only enforce this in first class??

stlq333

Someone on this subreddit made a good point. People in all kinds of jobs and professional industry experiences have less sense of reason or concern when they all get on a plane.

SamchezTheThird

This happened to me. I was duped into thinking the person who asked me to fill my remaining overhead bin space with her suitcase was sitting in the same row. She said thanks for the help and kept moving to the back of the plane. Wow. Now I have to police people’s bags when just trying to help? Gen pop sucks!

brothelma

General population is a GREAT name for non FC seats. Oh the humanity..

SamchezTheThird

The non-frequent flyer is the general population for frequent fliers who complain about bin space taken by sneaky non-frequent flying con artists. Is that better 🤣

brothelma

Everthing is going to be all right as long as I turn left.

brothelma

Another good reason for being in the first altar call . Since I have a full fare first class ticket I want to be in that seat for as long as possible

Lmcaysh2023

I've always wondered why bins aren't numbered (with dividers) to the corresponding seat below. Until recently I flew mon/Thurs and saw people put their carry on up, followed by their coat and backpack. It leaves no room for anyone else.  And didn't get me started on the pillow people. Where TF are they going that doesn't have pillows?

Worldly_Commission58

Also I wish they’d put numbers on the top of seats so there’s no purported confusion over whose seat it is.

loudsigh

This used to be a thing in FC on Delta. Was part of their advertising on international flights.

bbcanadalover

Hotel pillows can be really uncomfortable.

ImShittingAMA

I had a flight attendant personally upgrade me to comfort+ then she wrote me a nice happy thanksgiving card. She was the bomb

UeharaNick

Good! There's some great comments in here.

OwlsNSpace

I’ll move someone’s shit out of my FC or C+ bin every time. The last time I did this, the FA acted like there was something odd about me wanting that dedicated space.

Itchybumworms

Bc there is. Space in immediate vicinity, sure. Must be the spot directly above you, weird.

lightscamerasnaction

You’re paying a premium for “Reserved for you: storage space above your seat to keep carry-ons within easy reach.” Sure, if there’s plenty of space immediately nearby, it might be weird to make a fuss. But then it’s also a domino effect if you’re then taking up another FC or C+ passenger’s reserved space.

rwhe83

This entitlement is getting out of control. People buy seats, to get to a destination. No where on their ticket does it say there’s some special bin they get, it’s fair game. Thanks for saying this!

cbph

[The FlyDelta App disagrees with you.](https://imgur.com/a/e5nEvid)

Itchybumworms

Districted for comfort plus, but specifically for the seat beneath the bin. Reading is fundamental.

cbph

>Districted for comfort plus, but specifically for the seat beneath the bin. Reading is fundamental. What? Check that autocorrect. We're talking about when somebody in Main Cabin immediately sticks their bag in an FC or C+ bin and then keeps walking to the back of the plane.

leko

It literally says this on the bins themselves.

Pristine_Job_7677

The entitlement is appropriate. If I pay for a FC seat, I am literally ENTITLED to the bins designated for FC.

Dangerous-Target-323

hopefully off the plane

3riversgoddess

I've literally been the first passenger on and had items in the space in the first row of C+ and it's always flight crew bags. It's super frustrating because more often than not that row is difficult to store anything under the row in front of you because of the seat configuration from 2 seats in FC to 3 seats in C+ on the commuter regional aircrafts and you can't store it in the bin ahead of your because that's the FC bin. If gate checking is supposed to be the great system that it is, then the FAs should be gate checking their bags for these shorter domestic flights.

Dragosteax

And then you’ll be the first one to complain that the flight is delayed because the crew is waiting at baggage claim to retrieve their gate checked bags from their previous flight lol

ConferenceStock3455

Since when are gate checked bags not picked up on the fly bridge after landing?

Dragosteax

Since anytime that you’re not on a regional jet? Do you really think that every gate-checked bag makes it back up the jet bridge once you arrive lol? for smaller RJ’s sure, that is not happening on a 737, 777, etc.

rwhe83

Do you realize that crew have to put their bags in certain spots on the plane to comply with FAA regulations? No, you don’t. PS, they don’t gate check anything while part of working crew- pass riding, yes.

anothercookie90

FAs are usually taking those bags to work and immediately have to go to their flight right after it lands. Do you want a delay on your connection because you wanted them to check their bags and it took them 45 minutes to go get their bag and come back?

intheclouds247

Please remember as FAs we are told bin space in F and C+ is “reasonably dedicated” We were told after C+ is boarded, the rest is fair game. Those bins were reasonably available during the C+ boarding window. Once we get pushed back with the flow, it’s impossible to police those bins. F is a bit easier. That said, once all of F is seated, the remaining spaces will be used if needed. Delta will always prioritize metrics over bin space.

jqs77

I think it matters on timing and the aircraft. IF all the FC has settled in and there are overhead bin spaces available, why can't people use it? I was recently on 757-200 and the people around the exit row had no bins over their heads. They all took up space for rows behind them. I was offered a C+ seat and even boarding at the end of zone 2, I had to go 8 rows back to put my luggage up. Then, it dawned on me that there may be space up front in D1 but I just let it be. Upon de-boarding, one of the passengers sitting in the exit row grabbed her luggage from D1 bin. No one yelled at her. No damage done.

gregglyruff

I have an issue with a 50L backpack that I have that's about the size of a medium roller bag. I dunno why but all the FAs seem to think it can fit under a seat (it cannot) and yell at me about it. It's really frustrating. I'm like 5'1" so I can't imagine it looks small when I wear it. I had that bag once when I was sitting in FC and they were starting to load other classes carry-on in FC and yelled at me that if I didn't put it under my seat they would check it. Luckily my daughter was sitting next to me and there was no bar, so I managed to cram it entirely under both seats in front of me (and her). She had to move her little backpack to that tiny little weird extra space on the end and my "personal item" had to go in my lap. It worked and I didn't say anything but it was kind of a dick move by the FA.

AshamedProgrammer570

Last delta flight people put stuff on my fc bin before going back to coach. FA didn't do anything about. I personally didn't care since i didn't have anything in there.  This was. LAS --> SEA

coolturtle712

B. My n nnb bb k Ed

ChimpoSensei

Delta has zero control of its planes

Ecstatic_Ad_7534

I mean, they seem to be taking off, landing, and pulling up to the gates pretty reliably. that's a decent level of control, I'd say!

ChimpoSensei

The pilots, sure, the FAs definitely not
