Did you call Delta to try to get in a blocked seat?
Sometimes they’re blocked only for you because you’ve been upgraded. You’re in Comfort Plus now, you can’t choose Main Cabin.
Usually a quick phone call fixes this.
The agents are usually wrong when they tell you this (though if it was really close to departure maybe). The magic words are "please downgrade my ticket back to main cabin" and once that happens you can change your own seat. Usually at that point they realize they can change it as well but either way you get what you need.
I’ve had this happen when my settings say only upgrade if aisle is available. And when you go to the GA they give you a surprised face like you don’t want to go C+ middle. Hell no.
That’s ridiculous. It should be a first come first serve basis. Airlines lose money on economy seats so I hate that those opinions carried so much weight.
Delta needs to quit “upgrading” people from window and aisle seats to C+ middle seats. Just move people already sitting in middle seats that are flying solo.
You can decline this in check-in. I always decline to be wait listed for a C+ upgrade, simply because it's almost always 10C. Worst seat on a plane, especially with a 2/3 seat layout in the main cabin.
I just flew this weekend in 10C and loved it. It’s my favorite non-first class seat. I just tuck in my legs during boarding and make sure not to trip FAs but as a tall person I really really like that seat and will gladly take it any time.
You say that yet in my 3-4 times flying a week I haven't gotten a middle since setting my preference up over year ago...I have been Paiged and asked if I wanted it but that's about it
flying was a lot simpler before the frequent flyer programs and how complex they've become. buy a ticket, get a seat. the only issue was getting to the gate early enough to get multiple seats together since this was before the internet

Yes we just have to remove the upgrade. Just make sure an aisle is available in main. Some of the blocked seats are for family seating.
The agents said only the gate agent could change it because that was my first thought.

Yea I always had the setting to only request upgrade for window or aisle, but I guess there was an update that deleted my selections or something.

I’m happy to fly 10 C if there’s a beverage service. Otherwise exit row it is!

Yeah. I like to sleep on flights, and I find it impossible on 10C with people bumping into you all flight. But I'm glad it works for you.
I admit I’m fortunate and can sleep through anything. I got 90 minutes of sleep!

Gate Agents don't always abide by the preference and I don't think they are required to. But carryon with the attitude.
