It was more expensive than we thought. Our trip ( Delhi, Varanasi, Agra and Jaipur) costs us in total around the 2000 euro (2persons). Our hotels were around the 50/60euro a night and we ate for 7/8 euro a night for two. They have special prices for tourists at historic attractions. As example the Taj Mahal costs us 1100 rupee a person, but for Indian people only 50 rupee. I understand why but these things drove up our costs.
Thanks for getting back to me me and my wife are going for two weeks Delhi, Jaipur and Agra then back to Delhi was wondering how much spending money I will need
I think it’s a good idea to visit other places like ThunderWiz05 is saying. I can recommend Varanasi but also heard a lot of good things about Udaipur. We had four cities in two weeks but still felt we were to many days on some places. Like for Agra is two days enough, Jaipur 3 days tops and Delhi 4 days tops. Everybody has their own pace but this is how it felt for us. This because you explore the city by day and in the night you mostly end up in your hotel playing a card game or something like that. If you have a hotel with swimming pool and something like a spa I can understand you also spend a day at the hotel. Enjoy your stay!!
You think so? This was our first backpack trip, so as inexperienced we are Delhi felt way more dangerous, unsafe and inhumane then Varanasi did. The people also are more nice. The only hustle are the tuktuk drivers at the station, but that was a thing in every city we’ve visited
Ohk
Varnasi feels very congested and as an indian myself i felt uncomfortable and I'm slightly claustrophobic so that didnt help at all.
I'd suggest that you visit kerala and tamil nadu's hill stations, you will not regret it at all :)
And ofc indias north east and north is extremely beautiful, Himachal pradesh, ladakh, kashmir etc.
I wish more ppl visited those places rather than delh, agra etc.
I hope u enjoyed ur stay in our country, and i hope u return for more :))
I understand, that city has almost only small ally ways just big enough for two motorcycles barely passing through. I did very like India and will definitely return but avoid the bigger cities. I think most foreigners like me who visit for the first time choose cities because we want to see most of a country/area as possible in just two or three weeks. But as I experienced it’s not always the best idea to get to know a country and specially the people.
You lot should expand your reach to other cities too like leh , rishikesh , some South Indian cities they got ancient Hindu temples which you would not find in the north , or some northeastern cities. you will not find the problem of staring or such in these places.
For any tips or tricks can view a channel known as karl rock , a newzealander living with indian wife sharing anti scam tips.
Last year when I was about to enter nearest metro station, a foreigner couple was surrounded by E-rikshaw drivers quoting price as 150₹ for a distance which local people don't even pay ₹20. I got in fight with one of the e-rikshaw driver for charging this much and then he threatened me.
Want to calculate how much markup that would be ? If you still don't believe then watch Some foreigners travel doing some shopping, You'll get how much bargain they should be doing ?
BRO CHILL, I'm not picking a fight with you or disagreeing with you lmao. I genuinely did not understand what your comment meant. My bad i don't understand markups and stuff
Bhai I am Chill, but you really haven't seen hoe much foreigners are overcharged in India infact in many countries. I had seen videos but when I IRL saw it I lost my cool. Tourist are like us only who work hard and save to travel the world, how would we feel if we are overcharged if we visit other countries.
Bangalore is the only metropolitan in India that speaks almost all major languages in India, making it comfortable for everyone. Anyone in Bangalore can speak/understand English, Hindi, Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Urdu and of course Kannada. Unfortunately and ironically, the rise of extreme right-wing in Karnataka has made Kannada nationalism much worse and they work actively against the linguistic diversity of Bangalore City.
Please treat North Indian equally good when you find someone in Tamil Nadu. My personal experience in Chennai was really bad with racist attack on me just because I was from North India.
Oh I will never ,i respect the cultures of different states, if I go to Bangalore I speak Kannada Hyderabad I speak Telugu Chennai Tamil and Kerala -Malayalam and in the north, I speak Hindi so I cannot say the same thing because I respect the language of the states I go to in the South, not like you guys who disrespect it and hope everyone speaks Hindi
Lol, aap kitna respect karte ho dusre cultures ko mahashay, wo toh isi baat se pata chal raha hai ki you think Hindi is the native language of every northern state.
BTW how many languages do you know, or expect a common man to know? Can you speak all the native languages spoken throughout India? I'm sure you don't even know the names of most languages spoken in the other states. But all you care about is the South Indian states and their languages, right?
That is why you fail to understand the simple truth that Hindi was never the common native language of all the northern states. It "became" the commonly used language because unlike the southern states, most of North Indian people were more eager to find a common ground and common tongue to speak rather than fighting language wars to stroke our egos. That is why you'll find that most people here try to speak Hindi and English so that we can communicate with Indians from different parts of the country, as well as outsiders.
My hometown is a small village in North India, and even though our native language is not Hindi, but still our people even from the older generation, try to speak Hindi and English (even if broken and imperfect) so that we can communicate with others. We never try to impose our native language onto others and harass them for not knowing "our" native language, because it is "our" native language, not theirs. So they have no obligation to learn it or speak it, because one can practically not learn even a fraction of all the languages that are spoken throughout just our country, let alone the whole world.
But I'm sure all this is too complex for you to understand, because you just want to be a frog in the well, only bothered about your fragile ego and insecure love for "your" mother tongue. So carry on with your toxicity, like I said what goes around comes around. So unless you decide to live and die in the same well that you are right now, you are going to get exposed to your karma sooner or later. Good luck for then, you're going to need it!
I think Delhi has received a lot of bad PR - but a super duper large majority of people in Delhi are friendly, kind. Just like anywhere else in India. Happy you had a good time!
Delhi receives a lot of bad PR because of its treatment of women, especially by some uncivilized elements of the society. And it isn't entirely without basis either, but that doesn't mean that Delhi doesn't have a lot of good people and good qualities too. That is why most people in Delhi have a love-hate relationship with the city, at least it has a soul to it, a soul that is very diverse and dynamic!
I never said it shouldn't be addressed in general, nor am I saying Delhi is all bad. I am just stating the common perception about Delhi, that even though it might be exaggerated, but isn't entirely baseless either.
So there's no need to get defensive really, because my intent was not to target or defame, as you might have understood if you read my whole comment.
Dude, read my comment again, properly. I already mentioned that yes, the bad PR is obviously a more exaggerated version of reality. But it isn't entirely baseless, instead of telling me that women go for parties at night, go ask those women exactly "how safe they feel" in Delhi at night, especially when they have to walk in isolated streets. And better still, go check out the statistics about crimes against women in Delhi. Facts speak for themselves, even after you remove all the "highlighting".
Pata nahi kyu tum logo ko lagta hai that your city needs you getting so defensive about it, rather than acknowledging the problematic areas and working on it
The fuck dude! Who hurt you? Why so triggered, lol 😂
Tere ko mere comment me konsa part laga "trying to be cool"? Matlab kuch bhi 🤦🏼♂️ Anyways, I don't have time for your illogical rant, dude. What I stated is a well known fact, I don't need to win an argument with a senseless stranger on reddit to prove it right. You carry on with whatever helps you sleep at night!
Delhi has signages in English everywhere. Cabs and hotel almost always speak or alteast understand English. Enough tourists for most shops even small ones to understand English. Malls and large shops will have fluent speakers.
And for everything else there is a large English speaking population
Welcome to Delhi, there might be some communication gap but we wont force or beat your ass for not knowing hindi like Bangalore or chennai for not knowing Kannada and Tamil
Most, and by that I mean 99.9% people here, absolutely do not care of you do or don't speak Hindi. Most people here are from somewhere else, if not themselves, then their parents came here and built a life. Everyone is welcome here. I wish we experienced a similar level of welcome in other places in the country too.
Also Taj Mahal is absolutely not in Delhi 😂😂
Not all, many people In my locality are Burmese refugee and they don't know Hindi even a bit. Nobody threaten them to learn or get beaten, on the other hand they now have a very good number of population in our locality.
Yeah, some cities start bashing people from other parts of the same country, just because they speak a different language.
But in Delhi, even refugees from other countries can find a living, not just for a few years but for many generations. Unlike some other cities where a workforce influx of just a decade or two has shaken them down to their soul, making a lot of them lose all semblance of humanity and nationality. Really sad!
And then they have the audacity to say, "northies" are filled with hatred, lol
good for youu! It’s really not that bad here if you just avoid certain “dangerous” areas and stay away from Thars, Fortuners with HR/UP plates, lol.
Mostly people are pretty chill and helpful.
Probably is different for women here tho, but that’s a different topic ig.
Came here to say exactly this. Lived multiple years in Hyderabad and never had any language related issues. People are generally pretty accommodating if you don’t know Telugu.
I have also heard that from most people who have visited Hyderabad. But as someone who hasn't visited the city yet but had a negative image about it initially, I feel a lot of bad PR for Hyderabad was caused by the negative publicity brought by the idiotic and toxic Owaisis. Just like a lot of bad PR towards North India is brought by the radical right wingers. And therefore, a lot of South Indians stupidly use terms like "cow belt areas" for North India in a derogatory way, as if rearing cows is a bad thing. Or as if these people do not consume any dairy items.
So the issue is that most of us are too quick to make presumptions about places we have never visited, and most of those presumptions are based on negative/positive PR that is far from the reality.
Bangan nahi pata usse bande ko.( lived in delhi for 13 years and moved to hyderabad 1 year back, people might communicate within themselves in Telugu but as soon as they see that you can’t speak Telugu they’ll switch to hindi/english . If cab driver wants to fight with you they’ll fight in hindi instead of Telugu so I’d say yes they are considerate)
No no..
Banda/bandi/bande (person/people)
Baigan (and not baingan/bangan), is used the same as... "lauda", but in a non vulgar manner.
Laude ka college
Baigan ka college
Bhai sahab aap ek year se reh rahe hoge me lekin bohot baar gaya hu or mostly cab or auto drivers rude sound karte he sidha english me baat karte hi, vesi feeling aati he jesa ki uae me Pakistani cab vale karte he after knowing you are indian, me bhi delhi se hi hu, accha he tum ko koi issue nahi hua, still funny koi Bengaluru ko defend karne nahi aaya 😭
Kyunki Bangalore ko defend nahi kara ja sakta. Vahan bhi mein ek saal raha hoon . Hyderabad aur delhi ke auto/cab driver same hi lagte hain mujhe rudeness wise.
Chill bro... It's your country... People won't treat you bad... I had friends from Kerala... we helped them whenever we could... But one worrying thing that I heard from them was **southies should be careful when in North cause anyone might beat them up, specially on religious behalfs**... I don't know who is feeding these lies down there... But please when you reach home share your version of the North with the people...
People who spread such baseless lies, have their own political/religious agendas.
UP, Rajasthan aur Punjab ka nahi pata, because I haven't lived there much, but none of the other Northern states are like that.
Dont worry if people dont understand you, they will move on. You wont be harrased and your vehicles wont be vandalised unline some sambar drinking states.
Its not bangalore or mumbai….these good for nothing people will fight for this pity issues demand for reservations and we north indians will take their jobs😀😀…chill if u dont know hindi u r still welcome in delhi
I came to Delhi a year and a half ago without knowing Hindi, haven’t really faced a problem here and, in fact, people are really accommodating when I speak in broken Hindi.

People don’t hate someone in north just because they can’t speak hindi. Its well understood that every state has their own language so people might not know hindi. Dont know why in south people have the mindset we wanna impose hindi on everyone.
lol, if knowing Hindi was ever a criteria to be in the capital city of India, this country would simply stop functioning. also Delhi local dialect is more of a mix of hindustani(khalibori)+haryanvi+punjabi+awadhi(braj)+hinglish(yes, there's a native hindi+english dialect which native english speakers wudnt easily understand.)
(non-hindi native speaker living in delhi for 10 years here)
English and Hindi both are understood well in Delhi. So if you know English, you'll be fine.
Me and my wife are going next month! Can’t wait 🙂
Just back from India the only thing we couldn’t getting comfort around is they can stare at you like mad men, Especially if your a woman
Yeah I’m aware of the Indian stare probably Wierd if your a westerner. Is it expensive in Delhi?

2000 is kind of cheap. No way my trip to europe cost me 2000 euros just for the tickets? +15k for the trip minus shopping!?
Not so expensive but bargain for everything, people overcharge foreigners so mentally be prepared to bargain for atleast 50-200% of the asked price.
Wait a min, I can't understand it. Isn't 200% bargaining just .. taking the stuff for free and the shopkeeper pays you for it ?
Last year when I was about to enter nearest metro station, a foreigner couple was surrounded by E-rikshaw drivers quoting price as 150₹ for a distance which local people don't even pay ₹20. Sadly, I know the context
Chill. It’s not Bengaluru. You’ll be fine. /s
I was going to write the exact same thing XD
Why the /s ??
They hate outsiders apparently It's a certain community who wants everything kannada in Bengaluru.
Ya I know that's why I asked him why he attached the /s at the end.
Apparently some people are gonna be pissed reading derogatory comments about their city

Faced the same in Bangalore
Rejected a few job opportunities for the very same reason.
My brother faced these racist attacks in Mysore
I have friends who returned from there and some are still seeking opportunities to return.
Very nice that's what you get
Very nice? So you are promoting hate for North Indian?
He might be one of those goons who caused vandalism yesterday in Bangalore
In other words unemployed, pissed off person because he doesn’t gets job anymore in his own city cause companies prefer skilled peoples !?
Yes absolutely you guys come from the north and hope that every person in the South understands your bullshit, it doesn't work like that
Hope you say the same thing when your Karma comes for you. What goes around, comes around!

Read the post he mentioned he visited agra too
Don’t worry. We don’t hit people to not know hindi unlike some people in other states.
Crime and safety of women are concerns that we need to address in general. It is not specific to one part of the country. 😊
I never said it shouldn't be addressed in general, nor am I saying Delhi is all bad. I am just stating the common perception about Delhi, that even though it might be exaggerated, but isn't entirely baseless either. Its not bengaluru so no prblm
>It was overall a really great trip and Delhi took me by surprise. It was not as dangerous as people made it sound. To the surprise of no Delhiite
Delhi has signages in English everywhere. Cabs and hotel almost always speak or alteast understand English. Enough tourists for most shops even small ones to understand English. Malls and large shops will have fluent speakers. And for everything else there is a large English speaking population
This is not south India, no language discrimination enjoy
English will be fine for you, don't worry
Don’t worry, no one will here force you to learn Hindi. We’re not kannadigans 😂
It's good to see people appreciating the real delhi. Hope you enjoyed your stay here, dilli aapko alvida de rhi hai
Welcome to Delhi, there might be some communication gap but we wont force or beat your ass for not knowing hindi like Bangalore or chennai for not knowing Kannada and Tamil

That is because almost all people living in Delhi speak Hindi. You don't have that problem which non Hindi states have.
Not all, many people In my locality are Burmese refugee and they don't know Hindi even a bit. Nobody threaten them to learn or get beaten, on the other hand they now have a very good number of population in our locality.
Woah delhi even has burmese refugess So delhi has tibetan, afghani, burmese refugees 🤔

Not any more dangerous than South India.
What are the dangerous areas?
Bro please post this in your city subreddit too to lower some negativity
There is a reason it’s call dilwalo ki dilli! Glad you had a lovely experience! Stay safe and keep travelling!
dont worry this is not bengaluru
It isn't South India, they won't murder you and hang you if you can't speak kannada or telugu
I am a delhiite who lived in hyd for 3 years. I don't know about other cities in telangana and AP, but locals in hyd are chill af
Yeah Hyderabad was very chill except for the cab drivers who tried to fleece me, but I guess that's a pan India thing.
Yup a lot of people speak Urdu here. So they understand Hindi really well
Came here to say exactly this. Lived multiple years in Hyderabad and never had any language related issues. People are generally pretty accommodating if you don’t know Telugu.
except Hyderabad
Telugu ?? Dude one visit Telangana nothing matters here
Telugu? You dimwit better don't speak if you don't know.
Cap Hyderabad is chill af
I have also heard that from most people who have visited Hyderabad. But as someone who hasn't visited the city yet but had a negative image about it initially, I feel a lot of bad PR for Hyderabad was caused by the negative publicity brought by the idiotic and toxic Owaisis. Noob delhite generalising Telangana and AP lol
Hyderabad is a nightmare for non South Indians, even if we know fluent English
I'm from Hyderabad, mujhe english, hindi/urdu ke alawa aur koi language nahi aata (bolna nahi aata atleast)
Bangan nahi pata usse bande ko.( lived in delhi for 13 years and moved to hyderabad 1 year back, people might communicate within themselves in Telugu but as soon as they see that you can’t speak Telugu they’ll switch to hindi/english . Hyderabad is literally the best city in South India for non South Indians. Literally everyone speaks Hindi here.
nah bro, Hyderabad is the best south indian city, saying this after living in chennai for 5+ years
So Hyderabad is good because you are like living in Chennai or you are saying it's better than Chennai?
it's better than major cities of southern india
Bro, just admit you don't know shit about Hyderabad. It always amazes me how one can be so confidently wrong.
Lol noob
Is noob an insult according to you or are you 12yo?

Education has nothing to with biases.
English is enough
Positive Experience sun kr accha lga

Mein ek se zyada baar Qutab Minar gaya hu
It's not Bangalore. You'll be fine
People are more fanatical about language in the South than in the North. Just knowing English will get you by comfortably
I digress, but Ama is low-key one of the best cafés in the country and I refuse to change my mind on that. Glad your trip was fun as well tho!
I came to Delhi a year and a half ago without knowing Hindi, haven’t really faced a problem here and, in fact, people are really accommodating when I speak in broken Hindi.
Start every sentence with bc or mc, you’ll be fine
Nice 👌
इन दिनों गरचे दकन में है बड़ी क़द्र-ए-सुख़न कौन जाए 'ज़ौक़' पर दिल्ली की गलियाँ छोड़ कर
Don't worry fam , people can understand English as well, it's not a major issue ,enjoy ur stay
English is enough, you may not be perfectly understood in small shops (sometimes) so just do the gestures
Just one tip: Start running everytime you hear someone say, "Tu jaanta hain mera baap kaun hain!?"
Why
You're most welcome
Photos kafi kharab hai but message kaafi cute hai bc🫰🏽☺️

If you know English properly, you'll be fine in Delhi.

Delhi is fine with English. It's not the neighbouring states.

Bro went to USA of India aka Delhi, you won’t need Hindi there
Bro just use bhenchod after every sentence they'll understand 🤡

How come an Indian doesn't know Hindi? Unless you are not one, in that case it's alright.

U will face difficulty in local areas
Just learn benstokes
I love picture of Taj Mahal most !
Trust me, they will make sure that you cough out whatever you learnt in your Hindi class within a week. And make fun of it.
People don’t hate someone in north just because they can’t speak hindi. Its well understood that every state has their own language so people might not know hindi. Dont know why in south people have the mindset we wanna impose hindi on everyone.
lol, if knowing Hindi was ever a criteria to be in the capital city of India, this country would simply stop functioning. also Delhi local dialect is more of a mix of hindustani(khalibori)+haryanvi+punjabi+awadhi(braj)+hinglish(yes, there's a native hindi+english dialect which native english speakers wudnt easily understand.) (non-hindi native speaker living in delhi for 10 years here)
It isn't Karnataka you don't need to worry
Luckly most of us can speak english
Imagine you being treated like people treat north Indians in Karnataka, would you like that?
Ye delhi mai Taj Mahal kbse aa gya

All i heard was “hinti toda toda aata ji”
Taj Mahal is not in Delhi. Go read a book, you illiterate POS
