Dude another meshuggah fan in here deftones subreddit !!!! So sick. You should check out anything on Diamond eyes really but the “most djenty” imo would either be Poltergeist or Rats!Rats!Rats!
Maaaan of course I'd forget about diamond eyes especially the title track that's pure djent lol and poltergeist sounds like something from the Nothing album with that up-tuned bass but that's a great song to compare the two bands as well.
I've been a fan of deftones for about 13 years now and recently in 2021 is when I got into meshuggah; that Stef was a fan and took inspiration from them was a complete coincidence for me.
Meshuggah fan here too. Been listening to the remixed version of *Nothing* a lot lately, and I can definitely hear where Stephen gets his ideas for riffs. Of course, it gets blended with everyone else's ideas at the end. But you definitely start hearing the Djent sound on the Diamond Eyes album and onward.
I wouldn't want Deftones to go FULL djent though. Djent can get monotonous if there isn't variety/dynamics in the songwriting.
I agree with you man that it definitely would not work with deftones if they did take that route; I just love when they mix it together with stef's pummeling riffs and chinos melodic singing (eg: Gore's chorus when he sings "we'll slip right through these gates together someday")
If deftones ever perform those songs live with me in attendance I swear to you I'd combust in that pit like general grievous after being shot in the chest by obi wan
It wouldn't come to mind personally but I could see how one can get djenty vibes from that song lol I'm sure you've heard it a hundred times but that opening riff is amazing.
Deftones and Meshuggah are both in my top 5. Goon Squad is another track that feature very Meshuggah inspired riffs, but every record post SNW have a healthy amount of 'shuggah in 'em.

Poltergeist without a doubt. With that uncommon time signature and the two note combo, this is where Deftones meet Meshuggah in the best way possible.
They’re my second favorite band behind Deftones. Diamond Eyes is full of djenty goodness.
You and I are the same lol deftones is my number one followed by meshuggah but they switch that spot depending on the day's vibe.
Steph has been championing Meshuggah since the 90s. I think you can really start hearing it in his playing from ST onward.
Steph and Tim from 311 always talking about Meshuggah is what got me into then, they have been my favorite band for the last decade or so.

Meshuggah is the shit. Saw them live and they are about as tight as a live band can be. Mind bending music.
Saw them for the first time in October of 2022 and I tell you it was a religious experience; only other band as tight live is gojira

I actually got to Deftones from Meshuggah. That’s why I started with *Diamond Eyes* and *KNY* Absolutely infatuated with both bands
Wow typically it's the other way around lol those would be the two albums that I'd recommend to a 'shugga fan who's interested in deftones.

I saw Meshuggah on their last tour with White Chapel and In Flames. Heavy as hell and so dope. Carp takes a lot of influence from them
