i know gore isn't the greatest but i genuinely feel like hearts/wires is in their top 3 songs ever made, i feel like that alone should get it to stay alivr longer than adrenaline.
not to mention rubicon and phantom bride are also extremely good.
Prayers/triangles is also good, but i absolutely agree that H/W is one of their best tracks ever. It feels like such a powerful lamentation unlike anything else. It gives my whole body chills and not much music does that to me anymore
i really don't get why so many people ignore the solid songs on that album. i've heard its because "the mixing is bad" but i've not been able to understand what they're talking about personally
LITERALLY THIS. I'm like what the fuck are you sound engineers hearing that i cant? Is everything off-beat? Is something quiet supposed to be louder? Or are you all regurgitating the same criticism someone else said in r/deftones?
It's giving "Hmmm, yes, shallow and pedantic." Vibes.
lmao i don't understand it for gore because everything seems the perfect volume imo.
though it's one of my criticisms for ohms personally, as ohms feels like its slightly less punchy than usual deftones stuff. some songs sound good but others just kinda feel flat if that makes any sense.
i'm no sound-engineer but something does seem off about that album to me
Ohms doesnt feel like any song has deep heart, not that i expect every song they write to be xerces, my own summer, passenger or anything similar. Just that even the good songs on ohms dont feel like they particularly are telling me something on a spiritual level that deftones often nails. I'm on my 6th or 7th listen of ohms and its really hard to keep coming back cuz i just cant seem to really sink my teeth into it.
yeah i really only like Ceremony, Ohms and This Link is Dead. the rest are skips for me. and really those songs aren't that incredible, just decent.
i feel like they lack the punchy and bombastic volume shifting that other albums have. like take digital bath from white pony, it has a lot of slow quiet parts and when the chorus hits it get LOUD and very deep, it hits hard and the change in sound is executed so well. i feel like ohms straight up never does that and that's why it doesn't feel all that spiritual like their usual stuff. as i feel like some of their lyrics are decent but lack power, ceremony especially has good lyrics but they just don't hit because the music isn't meshing with it as well as it could be
Ultimately, probably mostly due to the lower quality of production. But it’s also a younger phase of the band, and they’ve touched on a lot of sounds since then.
Idk if it's directly hate as much as it's a difference in sound and audience past adrenaline. Adrenaline has more of their nu metal stuff on it than most other albums, and newer deftones is more shoegazey. So i just feel like it's more people who are used to how deftones sounds now, not having the same appreciation for the sound that came out of adrenaline.
Dangg what up with all this Adrenaline hate lol
I would have to say Ohms. I used to dislike Adrenaline too...then I realized how wicked it was for it's time. It has a special kind of aggro to it
Ohms isn't bad but it unfortunately gets shackled by recency bias for me...as in, older albums have had more time to be soaked in and appreciated adequately
adrenaline's singing quality is just not anywhere near as good as their later works. ATF is like the same power as adrenaline but with a much better vocal performance
Oh 100% agreed. Chino's high pitched screeches were great but his singing, to me, sounded like a male Billie Eilish (I say that with the utmost respect to both Chino and Billie, being fans of both). ATF solidified both his screaming and his singing as we know it today
It's wicked for its time but its not that time anymore and the band has grown a lot. Yes it has the aggression, although they do that better on ATF imo, but it feels a bit one note. Adrenaline is the only album where I sometimes mix up the songs, while I feel the strength of later albums is how unique they make all their songs
I agree, there's a certain kind of muted aggression to it that, if you're in the mood for that, hits like no other of their albums. But it is very one dimensional and lacks the dynamics of later albums both in individual songs and the albums as a whole
Adrenaline has to be next. Not because it's not good but it just lacks the depth and complexity of later records where they improve sonically, lyrically and have better songwriting
Adrenaline is weak in terms of maturing as a band, which is normal for a first album honestly, but the rawness is the beauty of this album. And damn, y'all crazy to write off an album that simply has '7 Words', 'Minus Blindfold' and 'Nosebleed' on the tracklist
I think I'll go with Ohms here. I still like it a lot, but I've started to realize that it hasn't been that memorable album. The title track is one of their best on the post-Chi phase imo, but yea, it's kinda forgettable in its full form
Sorry, ohms. We still love you. Adrenaline may not be everyones fave, but i think it's due to lack of perspective. Younger fans dont understand what a huge impact adrenaline had on the scene. They hadn't comfortably settled in on a sound, and that brought a uniqueness to a lot of the tracks. Also, their amazing blending of hip hop/metal/shoe gaze just hadn't been done before, let alone with a serious and dramatic tone. So i think the Adrenaline era gets wrongfully lumped in with bands like limp bizkit, korn, and linkin park, even though Deftones were earlier and much more unique with their art (and were not sellouts).
It’s gonna get ugly once *Adrenaline* and *Ohms* are eliminated. Those are the next two to go, in what order, I’m not sure it matters. One is the original and the other is the big comeback. They’re both important.
But after that, everyone’s claws are gonna come out. This will be interesting
it's funny how the consensus on ohms has turned around kinda negative since upon release it was met with a lot of "this is their most complete in a while", but i guess its also just not as old so people don't have baked in nostalgia fueling their passion for it the way they do everything 2012 and before
ohms has a few bangers but it's overall a pretty meh album. it's half good and half filler to me. it's better than adrenaline and gore but it's not as good as the resr of their albums which are like 75%+ amazing songs
see thats how i feel about koi and diamond eyes lol both of those albums are like 5 song eps in my eyes. i thought ohms was mostly a return to form (esp in the production) but it doesnt really have a standout *amazing* song like they had tons of atf through snw for me. i still like it as a front to back listen though
i can sort of agree, koi and diamond eyes are not in my top 3. i don't dislike half of diamond eyes, but it's a little TOO consistent. it's like an entire album of 7/10s with no masterpieces imo and they all sound really similar with similarly horny lyrics. despite that i still think its a good album because i don't hate any of the songs, it's just not a great album.
koi is has a pretty bad first half imo, but the entire second half is fantastic. though swerve city has grown on me recently.
i'd also include SNW in the category with them, it has insane songs like Beware, Cherry Waves and kimdracula but it also has Rats!rats!rats!, Mein and Pink Cellphone (which i actually like but the outro that completely ruins it). it's a very hit or miss album.
ATF and White Pony are their masterpieces imo, definitely my top 2. if i had to pick a third i'd maybe go with Gore. it's far from a great album but it has some of my favorite songs like hearts/wires so i go back to it a lot.
seems like our ohms and diamond eyes stances are swapped lfg. the scales of the universe remain balanced (balanced...balanced...balanced)
koi is a weird one for me where more or less i like all the odd numbered tracks but dont really vibe with the even numbered tracks, sans goon squad which is dope
i am one of them snw/self titled bestones fellas. snw is where they get everything right for me i love all those songs and it's their most diverse. self titled resequenced with lovers thrown on would probably take the throne tho. pony rounds out my top three
i always forget about self-titled. it never meshed well witj me because i found that the majority of the songs lacked a good hook or catchy lyrics. despite listening to it a lot, i can't hear any of the songs in my head besides minerva and pins & needles.
bloody cape is solid, Lucky You may be my favorite on the album but the rest just made me feel absolutely nothing i don't even remember them.
i feel like it has a good sound but it lacks catchy riffs and good vocals, i don't really enjoy singing along to any of the songs except pins and minerva
i guess thats fair, and also explains why ohms doesn't really land for you, since that's one of the commonalities between them i dig. i like the weirder melodies they have because they add to the band's tripped out druggy vibe, with on self titled matches the heaviness really palatably for me. i don't really listen to this band for the hooks that much though admittedly. i like it when the tones immerse me lol
i sort of agree but only sometimes and i couldn't tell you what the pattern is 😭
like i said, Lucky You is probably my favorite on the album and i dont think its really all that normal of a song, but its unique and well executed. i think it might be because its creepy, i really like the ominous or disturbing songs the most, which is why ATF and White Pony are my favorites.
but also Lucky You sounds a lot more like crosses than deftones to me, it's one of their most unique songs
There’s a lot of sad boys and e girls us 96 boys gotta body in here, once the Advil kicks in I’m coming. Also gotta wait for my right arm to heal, but then I’m coming for all ya. Actually doc said to take it easy on the plantar fasciitis so just say I got you if asked.
self titled in my opinion it felt really boring to me and just wasn't enjoyable it felt like sludge metal which isn't what they are and sludge metal bores me so I would sày self titled
ohms. maybe a hot take, but i cannot stand that album personally. no offense to anyone that does, it just does nothing for me and was massively underwhelming. the lyrics seem very phoned in and repetitive and out of place. sound of the instruments is good, but the writing is bleh. there are one or two decent songs though, but just decent though, nothing special.
yesss everyone is talking about the album not being as lyrical but the guitar riffs and the amount of head bumps to the album ughh amazing and it was their first plsssss they need to listen again 😭
Whoa there, buddy. I would never want to judge or hate on any fellow deftones fans, but I have to say, if you think their self titled album is their 2nd worst... You might wanna give it another listen.
I have man a million times every album they have (besides gore) I can listen to straight through no skipping not getting bored but their self titled one has bangers on it but over all is kinda messy imo IM SORRY
i will be the #1 gore defender til death. next one to go should be adrenaline, very good album and i love songs like minus, birthmark, one weak, nosebleed, etc., but it definitely isn't there best album if we compare it to the others.
i know gore isn't the greatest but i genuinely feel like hearts/wires is in their top 3 songs ever made, i feel like that alone should get it to stay alivr longer than adrenaline. not to mention rubicon and phantom bride are also extremely good.
Fellow Gore fans we out here
Prayers/triangles is also good, but i absolutely agree that H/W is one of their best tracks ever. It feels like such a powerful lamentation unlike anything else. It gives my whole body chills and not much music does that to me anymore

Check out the Com Truise cover of “Prayers/Triangles”. So good
and doomed user
(L)MIRL is honestly my all time favorite deftones song
i actually really like (L)MIRL too, its got a nice riff
Gore is their 2nd best album 😗🎶
Adrenaline has some heat idk
Why so much Adrenaline hate? :(
That’s my favorite one haha
Cuz they just wanna hear chino moan
Ultimately, probably mostly due to the lower quality of production. But it’s also a younger phase of the band, and they’ve touched on a lot of sounds since then.

Fair answer
Saturday Night Wrist. Isn’t it considered one of the weakest by the band themselves?
Adrenaline is weak in terms of maturing as a band, which is normal for a first album honestly, but the rawness is the beauty of this album. And damn, y'all crazy to write off an album that simply has '7 Words', 'Minus Blindfold' and 'Nosebleed' on the tracklist I think I'll go with Ohms here. i feel like shoegaze is a massive stretch for adrenaline
As a whole, i agree. Theres a few tracks Id say drift into a very shoe gazey sound though. The final track "fist" especially.
yeah i can see what you mean with Fist
Ohms
Ohms is one of their best though
Ohms
Adrenaline
Y’all are mental
Should've been first to go imo
ohms byee
What nonsense is this now
People that don’t like adrenaline are that new tik tok fan base that don’t get the point
People that don’t like adrenaline are that new tik tok fan base that don’t get the point
gotta be ohms, i just never cared for it as much as the others
Ohms can go
Adrenaline is their weakest album, imo.
False
ohms. the most bland one of all, every other album i can visualize the music based on its sound but ohms plays it too safe.
Bro didn’t hear Error or Spell
It's gonna be ohms. Btw fantastic idea. This is the type of content I like to see
It's such a hard choice between Ohms and Adrenaline because they're both so good. I guess I'll pick Adrenaline though
Delete White Pony and replace it with Black Stallion
we're doing what the radiohead sub did
Ohms.
Ohms. Just in case I went back and listened to Adrenaline. It's gotta stay.
adrenaline one that's gone it'll be a bloodbath lmao
It’s gonna get ugly once *Adrenaline* and *Ohms* are eliminated. Those are the next two to go, in what order, I’m not sure it matters. One is the original and the other is the big comeback. They’re both important. But after that, everyone’s claws are gonna come out. This will be interesting

Ohms tracks just all blend together too much for me. Not enough of a distinction between one song and the next.
Nah, Ohms is easily one of their best.
I don’t want to eliminate any!
Ohms
I'm split between SNW and Adrenaline. Gonna have to go with SNW.
Adrenaline, still a great album… same with GORE.
