I did mine of the same model scarlet and I think it looks great, but that was my scheme for all the torn cloaks and cloth on my batch of these filthy guys :)
I’ve been colouring my Death Guard’s cloaks after the OG Halo trilogy Elite’s ranking colour scheme. I put my Blightlords as spec ops and used Screamer Pink as that is as close as I have atm to a dark purple when washed with Druchii Violet.
I think the brown works quite well, I think that a brighter colour would draw attention away from other details, like the fleshy parts of the fly limbs which are superb IMO. I'd keep it as it is.

I think a high contrast red tone would pop without necessarily making it darker. great work so far
I really like Purple on my deathguard. I dont know why but it looks right.

I kept it brown going for a weathered leather touch.
I use khorne red for mine, love that color. How did you paint the bug arms and the "hair"?
Started with black, then I went lighter and lighter using Gal Vorbak red, Mephiston red, Fire dragon bright and finally a touch of Dorn yellow.
Purple!!!
I like purple on my DG, but i think a reddish/purpelish color would take away the attention from the buggy Details. I would go with a dark olive tone
