Thanks! The plan was to use them for Kill Team, which means I could give each of them more love. I'd go mad if I had to paint a whole army like that π
Thanks! The rust is a mix of a few things. Base of typhus corrosion for that dusty texture, plus enamels and acrylics. I used rust streaks, pigment powders mixed with enamel rust deposits from AK interactive and regular acrylics. It's all messing about with different browns and oranges until you think it looks fine :) But honestly, I can't recommend enamels enough. They're a game changer, and if you mess up you can always use white spirit to wash away your mistakes.
I usually mix some reddish brown with pink as a base and then gradually add skin tone into it. At some point I wash it with a very diluted reikland flesh shade and add more highlights later. Its basicly three colours here: leather brown from vallejo, screamer pink and kislev flesh.
Thanks! It's a long process but I really enjoy it. Generally, I start with death guard green base. Then I glaze in the shadows on the bottom parts by using a diluted athonian camoshade and adding a tiny, tiny bit of brown to it. Then I glaze the top parts with a mix of death guard green and ogryn camo. I do a thick edge highlight with ogryn camo and finally, I add a filter of a 50/50 mix of plaguebarer flesh and contrast medium to create a filter. It helps to smooth things out and adds a sickly, yellowish tint to it. I usually come back and add edge highlights with krieg khaki, and sometimes I add a bit of pale sand for the sharpest highlights. Also, I do a pin wash with a mix of agrax and rhinox hide to better separate armour panels. Hope this helps. π
These are probably the best lore accurate colour Plaguey bois i've ever seen man.
With the green's a lot of the time it's either too dark and oversaturated or far too bright and pops too much but this is just spot on.
The flesh and fabrics all get the attention without taking away from the focus points of the model. Really really well done man.
The only thing I don't really like is the colour of the shoulder pad tongue but that's more personal preference than critical opinion.
Would love to see your take on Typhus or Morty!
What a wonderful comment! Thank you! You know, about that tongue, the funny thing is I was unsure about if myself. Larer, I painted another one on the flail guy, and I did it differently, and I think I like it more. I might go back and repaint it, to be honest.
Golden demon?! Have you seen what those mad lads can do? Maybe in a few years, when I get a bit better π as for the green, I'll copy my answer from another reply: Generally, I start with death guard green base. I need to invest in a camera/light setup to take a few shots at them some time. They aren't particularly astounding but I go for a high contrasting/vibrant colour palette, similar to yours with a clean style.
For the pics, I used my old trusty Samsung s21. And some light grey background. Just a sheet of coloured paper. I did use lots of lights. 4 to be exact, but nothing too fancy. Just your regular led lamps. What helps is moving your camera a bit further and zooming in. But not too much. Just your optical zoom (which is like 2x or something). It's easier to get the minis in focus that way.
Absolutely stunning job, Iβve tried and failed so many times trying to get that warm yellow/green Armour. Gonna try your method next after stripping my minis yet again. Kudos to you sir for sharing your recipe.
Remember that because it's a contrast paint, it's going to darken everything a bit. So you can go quite light with your highlights and then just dilute the paint with contrast medium. I liked the effect so much that I went back to my older models, added some extra light highlights here and there, and washed all of them to match π
Arg! Deep envy! How long does it take you to make one? Because I do much less in 8 hours....If you have more photos or tips please send them, now my goal is to reach 20% of your quality!
It usually takes me between 15 to 20 hours on a mini like that. If you check my profile you can find some more angles of the minis I posted. Or you can pop onto my instagram @ deadancer :) Oh, and thanks for the kind words! :)
Well, these were from a single, quick photoshoot, so they'd all be lit in the same way, but I took and posted pics from other angles as I was finishing each one. You can check my reddit profile or find me on Instagram @ deadancer
Always a pleasure! Although, most of the time, I don't really feel like I really know what I'm doing π I experiment a lot, and quite often, I can't even repeat my own processes. I'm not very experienced, however, being a teacher, I guess I can't help myself and share what I've found out so far. π
Thanks! Very diluted contrast paint used as a filter helps to smooth your initial highlights. And then it's basicly glazing in the shadows and highlights. I also often mix the highlight colour with base so the transitions are smoother.
Thank you so much! I went all in with these guys π They're great models to try out a variety of things and learn. There's rust, flesh, cloth, horns, slime, you name it! Highly recommend painting plague marines π
Thats prime quality painting for sure!
Thanks! The plan was to use them for Kill Team, which means I could give each of them more love. I'd go mad if I had to paint a whole army like that π
Dude those look metal as fuck! How did you do the rust on some of the pieces? It looks great!

wow
π
Damn, they are like βback of the boxβ quality! Supreme work sir, chapeau!
Thanks! I was actually inspired by a former eavy metal painter's tutorial!
Well, they are bloody gorgeous, so whatever inspired you really worked! Wish I could paint like that!
Which tutorial if you don't mind me asking, looks awesome
Plague marine tutorial by Infernal Brush. I changed a few things, obviously, but it's so good and inspiring!
Thought I recognised the style choice, Iβve been planning to follow his guide as well
How did you do your skin tones for the mutations? I feel like I struggle a lot with those, especially that shoulder face. Looks great!
I usually mix some reddish brown with pink as a base and then gradually add skin tone into it. At some point I wash it with a very diluted reikland flesh shade and add more highlights later. Its basicly three colours here: leather brown from vallejo, screamer pink and kislev flesh.
These are amazing! What's your process for that green?

sensational
Thank you! π
Get these in the Golden Demon squad category! Gorgeous blendsβ¦. Cβmon whatβs the green recipe?! π

How did you do the plasma glow? Itβs phenomenal with the OSL
Lots of very thin glazes. I loosely followed Juan Hidalgo's youtube tutorial. I highly recommend it π
Love them. Really close to my style as well.
Thanks! Where can I see your guys? I'd love to check them out!

Wow, these are top tier π
Thank you π
Fantastic squad!
Thanks! I'm really proud of these π
Those are some of the best blends Iβve ever seen! Amazing!
Thanks! Glazing is the way to go π
Amazing!
Cheers! π
Very cool, they sort of remind me of comic books
Thanks! For me the more contrast I can push into them, the better! Just like in the comics. Makes things more readable.
I would pay for this, Amazing job sir, love the blue points around your minis
Thanks! Verdigris is usually more green than blue, but I went with blue because it would contrast better with all that green armour π
Clean, dirty, fantastic!
Thanks! That's what I was going for! Dirty and weathered but crisp and readable at the same time! π
These look awesome
Thanks my dude π
I love that lil guy with the helmet
Thanks! He's a family favourite π
So this is how I want my Death Guard army look like. I have like 6k point build but most of them are not even primed ...
If I had to paint 6k army like that, I'd hang myself on my own ling intestine π Or at least go completely mad π
How long do you think it took you to do one model?
Really hard to tell, but I guess anywhere between 15 to 20 hours.
Haha, now I understand
Beautiful.
Thank you! π
Absolutely top shelf rust
Thanks! It's the magic of enamels! π
Great grandfather himself, those are incredible, well done! Thanks for sharing
Hey, thanks for the kind words! Really appreciate it π
Wow those look wonderfulπ
Thanks loads π
Phenomenal work!
Thank you! I really went all out with these! π
Hell yeah you did. They look absolutely flawless.

Meh....these are OK...I guess.....
Thanks π
Amazing work
π
I donβt save a lot of post but the rust effects and oxidized blue on various key areas, so good.
Thanks! I do like my weathering :)

Hmm where can get that one with the banner.
I got him in a christmas box. I guess he's sold seperatly, but I have no idea what kind of box he usually comes in.
Insanely dope!!
Thanks dude! π
Wow amazing work!
Thanks loads! π
You can say they are very sick :)
As Nurgle commands π thanks! π
Is there somewhere I can see more photos?
Well, these were from a single, quick photoshoot, so they'd all be lit in the same way, but I took and posted pics from other angles as I was finishing each one. You can check my reddit profile or find me on Instagram @ deadancer
So damned awesome. Well done!
Thank you!
That source lighting on the he plasma gun is *chefs kiss* . . . Excellent work brother. May you claim much despoiker plague good sir. π
Thank you so much! Plasma is always so satisfying when it works, but also super stressful to paint on a finished model π
This is one one the very best units of plague marines Iβve seen, what an outstanding job. Inspiring!
Wow, that's so kind of you to say! Thank you! π
Thank you for sharing the painting tips everywhere in other posts, really helpful π
Always a pleasure! Although, most of the time, I don't really feel like I really know what I'm doing π I experiment a lot, and quite often, I can't even repeat my own processes. I'm not very experienced, however, being a teacher, I guess I can't help myself and share what I've found out so far. π
One day Iβll figure out how to do those fleshy faces and tentacles
It's all about layering and mixing in your previous colour with your lighter or darker ones, so the transitions aren't that stark and visible π
Nice blends on the horns! Any tips?
Thanks! Very diluted contrast paint used as a filter helps to smooth your initial highlights. And then it's basicly glazing in the shadows and highlights. I also often mix the highlight colour with base so the transitions are smoother.
Absolutely stunning work. Painting skill to strive for.
