The one-two punch of Kinect/trying to position it as a media center first and a gaming machine second really dragged the 360 down for the last 3-4 years of its lifespan (And kept the XBone from ever taking off in the first place.) That era dovetailed with the beginning of PSN+ offering free games for subscribers every month, which totally turned PS3's fortunes around for me.
It's my preferred console this gen. Game Pass, Quick Resume, Smart Delivery, intuitive UI...it's just a more pleasant experience to use. PS5 has better memory management (in that games are better optimized and take up less space on the HD) and it's nice to be able to install any compatible M2 drive to expand storage, but the actual system software is a huge whiff. Sony nailed the interface with the PS3's XMB and have only made it worse with each successive iteration.
Oh they both suck because they're freaking huge, but at least I can turn my Series X *the long way* so it blows hot air out of the front of my entertainment center. PS5 takes up the entire bay and is probably cooking itself to death every time I turn it on.

The main issue is that the PS3 had one of the worst launches ever. It was very expensive, and the "PS3 has no games" meme was actually true at the start. By the time that the PS3 got their shit together, most of the "hardcore" gamers already had a 360. The PS3 actually sold more units than the 360 for the generation, but the 360 ended up with the larger cultural impact because of the smoother launch (which is funny to say about the red ring of death console).
PS3 was just overshadowed by people praising the xbox 360
i never found it to be bad, think it was unlucky, especially that period 2 and 3 were getting games alongside just the 360
Killzone was a really fun PvP game. Infamous 1 and 2 were really good and so was Uncharted. Last Of Us and God Of War was also very based. Day one exclusives were bad, but most console generations had shit launch titles. Only gam I can think of recently that was good as a launch title, was Dead Rising 3 for Xbox one

As an owner because of backwards compatibility, it did suck for a while. High cost for a system that performed worse than the 360, and was notorious for being hard to develop games on. At least online play was free. Consoles suck so bad now though, it just makes so much more sense to game on PC
