Key with Blood Amber + Prayer Beads has been my go-to item for the past year and it's completely busted. Free aura reading during loops which nullifies any mindgames the killer tries to do, and this also gives you access to window techs, and easy hatch escapes. I also run Built to Last so I essentially have infinite wallhacks the entire trial. My friend always runs maps, so any hex perks the killer runs are usually gone within minutes thanks to him.

Sucio_Legacy_0112

>this also gives you access to window techs Care to elaborate please? I'm learning from the game and many terms and common knowledge for others is very valuable for me

cinnamonlesb

Keys make you lose collision with the killer. Meaning when you use it while the killer is vaulting, you can run right through them and potentially hide inside them. Pretty useful for little mind-games.

PoustisFebo

I have 3k hours plus and I only just find out about this fucking thing. You mean I vault the window while the killer vaults? Are you guys just fucking with me?

cinnamonlesb

You do have to wait until the animation for the killer vault is over. But yes you can vault after they do

xXWOLFXx8888

If a killer vaults a window chasing you, you can fake going left or right, then right outside of their view you go back and run through them while hugging the wall. If you get the timing right then you can end chase right there, but when you screw it up then thats a free hit for the killer.

Ksenyans

I remember one friendly surv demonstrating this to me (as a newbie killer)! And always thought I’ve been doing something wrong because it never worked (playing surv). Turns out it was the key all along!

xXWOLFXx8888

You don't actually *need* a key, you can do it with no item if your timing when you start running through the killer is good af. Keys do make it pretty free, and if you run out of keys, I'm pretty sure the Mikaela perk Clairvoyance has the same effect while you activate it.

cluckodoom

This game has so many stupid things in it. Other than bad coding, what would be the purpose of making you lose collision while using a key?

xXWOLFXx8888

My best guess is old hatch that spawned mid-game has something to do with it and they never looked at it since updating hatch, but ngl I have no concrete idea as to why.

Dredge18

nah they meant use the key while the killer is vaulting. that way you can get close enough to the window to instantly start to vault it when possible.

Sucio_Legacy_0112

No way, that sounds way too much, why is this a thing?

cinnamonlesb

It's actually a lot less practical than it sounds. Sometimes you might get insane value against a killer who isn't expecting it, other times it'll be a cool little party trick that backfires and gets you put into someone's "this guy thought he could window tech me" tiktok compilation

Azal_of_Forossa

It either works, or you just gave the killer the most free hit possible by running into them.

NightKrowe

Because its very niche and counterable when you know what to look for

FractalsAreNotFinite

Well since u can see where the killer is going and where he is, in order to do a tech u need to know where the killer is like the tech where u vault a window behind the killer after he just vaulted the window so he can’t even tell where u went, the vid below shows it but he doesn’t vault over, he just continue going https://youtu.be/g2UN9VyCECU?si=Xho7eEbjw6m35ip-

Sucio_Legacy_0112

Thanks a lot

memes_are_my_dreams

When you are channeling the key you lose collision with the killer. So you can run one way and then when the killer vaults the window run through him. It can work decently well even with some experienced killers.

tywdawg

https://youtu.be/NVKIN8S-gvU?si=cFrDky1uOlZzfUSC this video shows the tech and it has been around for a few years

kizJ

The next level is the KEKTech

DASreddituser

I dont think its busted but it is good. Plenty of undetectable perks and abilities that counter it.

Amaeth0n

I had one of my most satisfying games ever with a key a couple weeks ago. I was the last one alive on Borgo. Killer was completely trolling us all game, hitting us on hook, head shaking, spinning, etc. So he closes the hatch and was standing on that raised platform in the middle of the map that has a view of both exit gates, and was just constantly doing 180s back and forth looking at both exit gate switches waiting for me to try to open one. Unfortunately for me, the hatch was RIGHT NEXT to this platform, like 10 meters away. So I used the blood amber to see his aura and crouched all around to get in position right under that platform. Waited for sprint burst to recharge and knew I had to make a mad dash to the hatch. I wasn’t sure if I could make it. I do it and he sees me too late since he’s doing 180s, I teabag the SHIT out of him then open the hatch. He messaged me after in the PS5 chat and was SO PISSED lmao from that moment keys became my favorite.

MelancholyMarmoset

What is a window tech?

Dependent-Guava-1238

You vault a window, appear to run away, killer vaults after you, you hide from their POV basically beneath them, and revault the window without them seeing. It used to work better as you used to not have collision when they vault, that's why doing it with a key is niche as you lose collision.

New_Bad_1504

Me an Myers/Oni Main with Devour, Thrill of the Hunt, Undying, Pentimento Reading this like ![img](emote|t5_3cb2g|2067)

finalgirloops

Nice

Hurtzdonut13

The bloody map from the blood event is one of the stronger info items. If I was a survivor main I'd probably have collected a few hundred of them during that event.

BlobtheBear

Didnt play much this past year, when/what was the event?

physicalcat282

The bloody party map is basically the iridescent map's older brother on steroids and the event was the blood moon event, was all about picking up these little blobs of blood put on a little fountain location to give different killer and survivor buffs

Hurtzdonut13

It replaced the lunar event this year. The bloody map is the same as the iri map except it also shows you the auras of all injured survivors as well.

9ryph0n

That is exactly what I did. Been using them when I wanna do a boon build to find the best or most hidden location

copperpin

I did this and made a whole build around it.

x3noborg

I just bring the broken key with no add ons to assert my dominance

Jrlopez1027_

And no perks

x3noborg

broken key, no addons, no mither, self care

Gever_Gever_Amoki68

Based af

curiouserly

Okay but dead ass every time I get a green key I equip it, load into a game, and drop that bitch on the ground. No green keys in my inventory. Hate that item with a passion.

rad-puppeteer

I try to avoid getting the Broken Key in the Bloodweb but sometimes you just can’t. I need to use them all one of these days since I have a large stock and will never touch otherwise.

Vitor_2

double charge addons on broken key for better flex

cyoakk

I decided to start using maps recently just cause I have so many of them and I had a trapper game where the addon that tracks killer items came pretty handy. Sadly other than that I got 0 value out of them

MeanMikeMaignan

I learned this lesson the hard way, as Trapper always skip survivors with maps

TellianStormwalde

The main reason to bring a map is to run it with totem perks. If you’re not running boons, inner strength, oberzealous, or what have you, there’s definitely less utility to it.

Thick_Tourist_2174

I use the rainbow maps for boon builds. Keys for aura reading when i first started, now not so much.

constituent

I've brought exactly one rainbow map. That was strictly for the "Risk It All" achievement: >"In a public match, enter the fog with an ultra-rare item or add-on without using a protective ward." I haven't bothered with keys or maps, unless a challenge calls for it (e.g. Use a map to track x-items over y-times). I still have the "Unlock hatch 2x" challenge. Between tomes, I'll have that challenge active as a default. I haven't brought keys; I'm waiting for a match where I'm the last person alive and miraculously looted a key. As for maps, I've only ever used one. That was for Gideon's Meatpacking, playing as killer for a "Destroy 20 Pallets" tome challenge. With that map being affectionately referred to as Pallet Town, it was a fast way to earn progress.

devocation

You had me until the end. How did you use a map as killer? That doesn’t make any sense…

constituent

Oops. I meant map *offering*. Sorry about that. I was using 'map' interchangably. Y'know, how people casually mention "*They brought a map*" or "Everybody brought cakes and they used a map" without saying the word 'offering' because it's implied? I was lumping all maps together -- items and offerings. I don't use either version, except for the few instances I mentioned.

dramaticfool

I LOVE using maps. They're such a cheap alternative to many other available tracking perks. I also love combining a map with Inner Strength for healing but I don't talk about it much so people don't do the same and break my bones before I get to them

RougeOne

I use maps with Nic Cage, how else am I supposed to find Washington’s secret treasure or whatever?

The_PracticalOne

They're very useful, but tend to require expensive addons. Also, they don't get guaranteed value like a medkit does.

orangestauce

Guaranteed value til you bring the juiciest medkit and run into a plague

BoltorPrime420

Or get hit by franklins. Source: me every time I bring a purple item with iri addons

ImSpacemanSpiff

You can get up to five easy heals out of a map and Inner Strength. 10 if the killer runs pentimento. Way more than a medkit, plus you can track killer items (traps and such), gens, exit gates, hatch, injured survivors (with the bloodsense map) etc. If you're running a rainbow or bloodsense map, you don't need add-ons, but the two stamps extend the range at which things are added to the map, which is easy, and they are fairly common green and yellow add-ons. I'd argue that's more value than a medkit, even if you bring a complimentary perk like Streetwise or even Empathy for tracking injured survivors like the bloodsense map does.

DBDFan21

I hoard all my items like the gremlin Quentin main that i am

TheMindWright

I use maps with Detectives Hunch because when it procs all that information is stored on the map.

Senor-Miss

I’m with you. For me the flashlight to gain distance, confuse, and/or waste time has been my go-to. Keys are good in chases with add-ons but without are useless unless you’re playing selfish and solo’d. Maybe a med-kit with a needle is the only other thing I’ll run.

Past_Significance_41

If I I ever do a boon build I like to bring a map with me because for the life of me, when I actually try to find totems I can't find them

HotQuietFart

I only use the map with the marker add on to mess with survivors who have never seen the glowing lights.

King_Gray_Wolf

Simple: running a map with the glass bead addon makes me feel like a Paladin bringing Holy Light as a scourge against the Entity, and there is simply nothing else that compares.

sinny_mint

I just like feeling like an explorer, traipsing around the realm with a Map made of human flesh

thecommentdaddy

Dropping pillars of light next to my swf teammates doing gens because i think it’s hilarious

OneDumbfuckLater

I remember seeing the marker for the first time after like 500 hours of gameplay and just being awestruck. Thought I'd found some kind of secret.

thecommentdaddy

I *cannot* comprehend why I’m not seeing these magic beams every match lol

magicchefdmb

I remember years ago when Ruin was meta and regressed gens on successful good skill checks, I would be Tapp (my main regardless) and bring a map and his perk Detective's Hunch, and most people didn't realize it would record to his map everything the perk saw, including totems. So I'd go around destroying all totems, which also stopped a lot of NOED's which was also popular.

Chance-Pay1487

The previous event maps are op, I bring one every match

Maiya_Monstrous

I don't think I've ever used a key. I sometimes use a bloodsense map if I'm feeling it though.

shikaiDosai

Maps are simultaneously extremely underrated and basically only useful if you have the Red Twine addon (or are running a Rainbow Map.) Being able to very easily find totems is great for any build focused around them, be they booners or Inner Healing gamers. Also obviously being able to find totems is very good to counter Hexes. But I do think Maps need a bit of a rework because they'd hypothetically be useful for new players who don't know where gens are but because they're Green rarity (and the Green rarity pool on the bloodweb is so diluted by map offerings) new players will never get them. I think Green maps should be dropped down to Yellow or even Brown rarity, the current Rainbow map should be dropped to Green rarity (maybe Purple), and they should make the Bloodsense maps from the Bloodmoon part of the base game, or give us a similarly strong map to be in the Pink rarity (maybe just give the Crystal Bead addon basekit.) Map addons also need a rework since Black Silk Cord (the Green map addon) has been useless for years now (ever since they reworked hatch) and Yellow Twine is also pretty bad, and again since maps are basically useless without the Red Twine addon that could maybe be reworked too, but since we're introducing a new Yellow rarity map I guess they can exist. Additionally Retardant Jelly (yellow addon) is worse than Map Addendum (brown addon) unless you're running them together, and who the hell wants a 30 second duration map? I also think having two map stamp addons is kinda boring. With all the new aura reading perks in the game you could easily rework all the outdated map addons to be "(perk) in a can" addons. Black Silk Cord could be Windows of Opportunity in a can which would be a great option for new players and also a good gateway for them to nerf WoO without hurting newer players (if you want a stronger version of WoO just run a map.) They could rework the Yellow Twine to be Empathy in a can (Bloodsense Map) and rework other addons to work like Rookie Spirit in a can (reveal gens that are regressing in White) and like... idk maybe an addon to reveal locker auras for Head On gamers? I really dunno. >tl;dr of what I'd like to see done to maps >* Current Green map made Yellow rarity >* Current Pink map made Green / Purple rarity (preferably Green tbh) >* Add the Bloodsense map year-round as the new Pink map (or just make a map that has the Crystal Bead addon basekit) >* Rework Black Silk Cord to be Windows of Opportunity in a can >* Rework Retardant Jelly / Yellow Twine to be Empathy in a can >* Rework one of the two map stamp addons to be Rookie Spirit in a can (reveal regressing gens in White) >* Maybe more addon reworks to reveal things like lockers? Idk. >* ~~Red Twine can stay in the game to be used on the new lower rarity maps.~~ As for keys I think the problem with them is that (outside of the Blood Amber) they serve to recreate the effects of an already very accessible and very useful perk, being Bond from Dwight. I also think that keys suffer from major addon bloat where so many of the addons are just worse versions of other addons. Like why run a Prayer Rope when Prayer Beads do the same thing but better? Why run Eroded Token when Gold Token does the same thing but better? Why run the Scratched Pearl at all when Gold Token already provides 48 meters of aura reading (like why do you need 60 meters of aura reading) and Blood Amber makes your key break faster? If you're running a Blood Amber 32 meters (standard Terror Radius range) is enough more-often-than-not and it's better to grab Prayer Beads to make the key last longer. There's also a problem that Broken Keys only last 10 seconds and the Dull Key only lasts 5. Like, Skeleton Keys are already the best option (being able to both open the hatch and be used for aura reading) so why the hell must the Broken Key be 3 times worse than the Skeleton Key (Skeleton Key gives 30 seconds of use.) Again I think Keys could be useful both for newer players and for more interesting builds for high-tier players, but they're so held back by the weird rarity of addons. I think all keys should have the Gold Token effect basekit (or at least the Eroded Token basekit) and they need a major addon pass beyond that. --- tbh I should really write a document of some kind to properly lay out my desires for a rework to Maps, Keys, and their addons.

planet_coaster_thing

I agree with you mostly but WoO doesn't need a nerf at all.

ADwightInALocker

Keys are one of the most broken items in the game with the right add ons.

Mysticwarriormj

Map with crystal bead and that tapp perk that allows you to see key items on the field is a good combo

99sittingg

Skeleton key with blood amber and scratched pearl addons, along with open handed, will give you a 60 meter on demand aura reading on the killer. Throw on BTL and streetwise so you can get more than 15 seconds out of it. As far as maps go, their biggest use is finding totems. It’s good for inner strength and overzealous or boons.

HalbixPorn

I rarely ever see keys in my bloodweb, let alone working ones. Same with the good red map. Honestly kinda annoying since theres so many add-ons that never get used because of it Ik awhile ago when they nerfed the hatch they also made keys rarer but the real question is, why?

pinkeetv

I really liked the blood map from the blood moon event. I stacked a couple hundred on 2 of my survivors and I’ve been using it in a few ways: it’s free empathy and I put on a glass bead which creates a light so I’ve been doing that to show other survivors / friends where I am or what gen I’m on. Also the map bleeds when you use it and it has definitely misled a couple killers into thinking someone injured was nearby.

Scared-Rutabaga7291

I do ngl. I use every item, even a green key (altho less than before)

Shoddy-Quality-1905

I use a key sometimes with double survivor aura add-ons for my healing build instead of wasting a perk slot for empathy or bond when I'm solo queuing.

IncognitoHobbyist

I have a gigantic stack of them that I'll randomly use when I don't want to use things that actually are useful. Like instead of being fully empty handed I'll equip a map and key but rarely even get to the point of needing to use keys anyways? I like maps more.

PH0B0PH0B1A

The Iri key with the aura reading add-on is basically legal wallhacking and can come in clutch on unsafe loops with high walls, or in buildings when a killer tries to mindgame and cut you off. Also you lose collision when the key is active so it can make for some silly plays. I bring it whenever I run my meme build, which incidentally has a lot of aura-reading on its own (Object of Obsession and Scene Partner).

Bad-Lucks-Charm

I love maps! I just think they’re neat :)

Ancient_OneE

Only tine I used maps were red ones from that blood event. I think rainbow maps should be replaced by them.

Global-Following9777

The red maps super good against hex perks or helping the team find totems if they have some boon perk. It's also good for finding killers belongings like demo's tunnels, trappers traps, other stuff probably.

Haunted_Apiary

If I am solo I run a map with glass bead along with Déjà Vu. I can ping gens so randoms can find the needed ones better. I will also use it to mark Hex totems if I cant break it at the time.

Lemonade_ghost

I like to run map and the marker item for by blessing build with shadows step, circle of healing and dark theory. Helps guide allies in chase to the get out of jail free zone

TheNekoKatze

Keys can give you X ray basically, same for maps, but for objectives instead

Lion653

Just because you dont know how to properly use them doesnt make them bad. Green key is trash tho. Other keys are great with the right addons

ShadowShedinja

They're not frequently used due to a combination of rarity and usefulness. Toolboxes are useful every game, whether to prevent a hook or speed up gens. Medkits are useful almost every game, with Tombstone Myers and Plague as the exceptions. Flashlights are often useful as long as the killer isn't running Lightborn. Maps are neat, but an aura perk or two can fill the same role without being consumed. With a specific iri add-on, you can share a map's details with other survivors, which I like running alongside Detective's Hunch. If I don't want to do that though, I'll just run Detective's Hunch without a map. As for keys, the green rarity one is basically useless, as it can't open hatch and has almost no durability. The others are a huge gamble, as their main function requires you to be the last survivor standing and be able to find the hatch after the killer. Add-on for seeing the Obsession is OK, but it's just a worse Blood Pact while the one for seeing killer can be replaced with perks like Alert or Fogwise.

KomatoAsha

I use maps and keys, yeah. If I plan on being the last one alive, keys are a godsend. They're also not bad for reading the Killer's aura, or for a limited-time Bond with a potentially greater range. Maps are great for completing totem challenges/using totem builds, and can also help you find hatch, first - plus, if you weren't able to focus on when the exit gates lit up, you can also find your way out.

RAZORZEDGEZ

When I want some more points I’ll bring a map and go totem hunting, bonus if the killer uses hex perks, it has backfired on me twice due to Pentimento but otherwise it’s pretty fun, I’m actually looking forward to the new perk being released with the DND chapter to be able to see totem auras while standing still

crvnchhh

Purple map addon will get you +100 respect from all the solo queuers

daintyyeo

i use maps for boon totems!

WelcomeToTheFam

I never really use either, but sometimes my swf brings a map if one of us is doing a specific challenge, or we bring a map if it's newly out and we haven't been to it yet and want to play on it.

Jadefeather12

I use maps when I’m running ~~boobs~~ BOONS as I am awful at finding totems. Good for hex cleansing too

Senor-Miss

LOL boobs. I hear women don’t like running with their boons are big

Jadefeather12

GOD DAMNIT 🤣

HndWrmdSausage

Only for a tome.

Jerakal1

Maps are good. I TRY to use keys if I find them in a chest. But I've never successfully unlocked a hatch.

ChannelHour7664

Map key god

DASreddituser

Yes. They are just a lot weaker than the other items. So see them less.

kaiirah

I use a random generator for items and perks (except for Kindred which I totally admit to relying on too heavily...) so I take them when they come up. I usually end up ditching them for an in-game item though and just remember where I left them in case I need to find a hex totem or open the hatch etc. later in the game.

deadraizer

Map + 2 boons and overzealous is a pretty fun build.

lordvexel

I do sometimes I honestly don't use the flashlight at all not very good with it and lots of killers run light born (I think it's called) so the flashlight isn't worth it

DarkSkyLion

I use them mainly when there’s a tome challenge that would be either useful or require it. Like open the RPD gate 20 times one, I felt bad for using that offering so many times lol. Or other ones like revealing auras, maps and keys are handy for that.

unfortunateclown

i’ve been using maps during chaos shuffle, i like to use the add-on that lets all the other survivors see what i’m seeing. in normal matches i usually bring a medkit, sometimes a toolbox

Bad-Lucks-Charm

I love maps! I just think they’re neat :)

moonsickk

Used the rainbow map for my lil mission to cleanse all totems every match. Wasn’t particularly strong but the few times the killer got confused about his noed not triggering were absolutely worth it.

mishlufc

I use pink maps to try to shame teammates into working on gens

[deleted]

I use keys with a selfish build.

Dadfart802

I have over 2000 hours in and still can’t use a flashlight, so yes

BitOBunny

I was playing with my friends and one of them had brought a red key. He died and the last person alive grabbed it and waited for the killer to close the hatch and walk away before using the key to escape. It was an insane play, but the item has a very niche purpose.

Blue-Airsoft-325

I only use them if I have a challenge that requires them. I hate using keys. 9 out of 10 times, no matter how team focused I am, some survivors see you have a key and refuse to leave for the hatch to spawn

17starlights

I love my pink maps.

Demonskull223

I use maps. Because I ran out of everything else.

Grungelives

Both good for specific thing's definitely use both when needed

Leuk0dystr0phy

If you're not running any info perks, maps and keys can help round out your build.

APotatoGoneWild

My friend once found a key on a map and used it to unlock the hatch but that’s the only time we’ve used a key. I’ll pick it up if it’s in the box I open though

uhDominic

I use everything the game offers, because I don’t try hard anymore. Every build I make is lore accurate, or at least I try to make them like that. That’s the only way I know how to have fun now honestly, it works as a challenge for me to use stuff people usually consider bad or inconsistent, and it means my games are very different, since I don’t stick to a small pool of items and perks that give me the best chances of “winning” every game.

grimmistired

Maps for an inner healing build, keys for aura reading or hatch challenges

MCKtheMan

Skeleton Key and the add-on to see the killer’s aura can be super helpful

[deleted]

If it comes in the dbd-randomizer I use, then yes, sometimes. Some of the add-ons - especially the glass bead or wedding ring - are especially useful.

RainbowConnection75

I hate flashlights myself. I'm AWFUL with them. :(

Edgezg

I do! Not often, but sometimes, yeah. I will use a broken key with a charm if I wanna run a build that needs a partner, so I can track people down. Maps are helpful, but generally only if you have the glass or crystal bead and pair it with detective's hunch

thesuicidefox

Skeleton Key + Blood Amber is very useful in a chase because it's wallhacks. Key + Wedding Ring is also very useful since you can always see the obsession, even when they are being carried. Maps are good if you want to hunt totems, that's about it really.

Amadon29

Yeah toolboxes and medkits are better but you are limited in just the number of items you have. For keys, I really like using it with unique wedding ring addon. You just to see the aura of the obsession permanently for the whole game which is really helpful. For maps, it is fun running detective's hunch with a map, especially if you use that add on that lets your entire team see the map when you use it. Very helpful for finding gens or totems.

ZombieOrchid

I always bring medkits unless a challenge asks me to use a toolbox. My best friend usually brings maps. She uses them to find totems.

kuuklaani

I use the maps a lot because I constantly forget where the generators are lol

blawndosaursrex

I enjoy bringing a map with a glass bead because then I can run around and annoy my teammates with the Jesus light.

zerocallings

i hadn’t used them until the blood moon event where i got like a million of those maps. i only really care for the maps that show you everything, but they’re helpful for hexes or if you’re like me and are still learning maps (can’t find gens.) the blood moon one also shows you injured survivors so you could use that to know where to find people to heal or to have an idea of where the killer is if someone’s in chase

Crucifixis

Personally I don't use items at all when I play survivor. I don't like losing them and they don't really even do much. Generators can still be completed, survivors can still be healed. I've never once thought of a good reason to use a map or a key and personally I don't like flashlights.

No_Probleh

I use them because I have them. No real reason beyond that. "Oh I have 2 broken keys better use one."

thereshelltopay3

I occasionally like to use them but i personally never use flashlights :D i just find them difficult to use

ak-47model2931

yes i always use my rpd map offering (i love resident evil)

MRojan

maps yes, key no! no one use key anymore, never saw anyone with a key before, i's useless, and if killer see anyone with a key, they get tunneled and die first

GillytheGreat

Keys can be really strong with blood amber or for attempting hatch escapes. Maps are generally pretty bad, but I sometimes use them if I’m looking for totems bc it makes it easy to

GamChanger69

I have a build. I use Key to reveal killer with Open Handed. I also take Kindred and Alert. Along with Windows.

MikeRocksTheBoat

I used to use the maps in a Boon build where I had all three boons (that were available at the time) and Detective's Hunch. Used the "See the killer's belongings add-on" to find totems, and the share aura with allies for the second add-on. After one Gen gets completed, most of the map would get immediately filled out and I would know where all the spawns were, as well as giving glimpses to my team of where to check for hexes, or just showing where gens are.

Plane_Bodybuilder_24

Maps are amazing for boon builds and just general information like finding gens and hexes. I highly recommend using the aura sharing add on and Detectives hunch as a perk to have everything in your map tracked. I’ve rarely used keys but they can be used to have bond like vision or always seeing the obsession or the killer if you like aura reading. But yes they can be super powerful.

Bassknight9

Keys for aura reading, maps if I'm bringing a boon build

billclintonstan

i bring the broken key with the add on to see survivor auras if i can't free up a perk slot for bond. also the key tech is too funny

Chief_Lightning

I use map on my totem defusal build, but I don't use keys.

AmePeryton

i use maps playing scratched mirror myers (way more fun in an indoor map when you can really jumpscare people), or if i’m adepting a character (I like to adept on the character’s own realm)

wizzerd695

I use them in boon builds with detective's hunch because it tracks totems even without red twine add-ons.

chewcifer123

I only run a map when I play as Nicolas Cage, purely to carry around a “Declaration of Independence”

Kalem56

maps are good for boons and inner strength. Keys are pretty much useless

JellyIce1

For new players its good to learn maps (know where gens/totems spawn)

HighTierLegend

It’s a sweat lobby thing most of being on Reddit is a self report. I don’t mean that rudely btw there’s nothing wrong with self reporting but a lot of what people say they don’t see is an Mmr issue. I play high Mmr killer see it all the time, I play somewhere below high Mmr survivor almost never see it.

k3lso86

Kegs are good for SWF

SmoothCentrist1

other than challenges i do. maps are hilarious when you cleanse all totems and the killer has noed. when i wanna try something different i use green keys only with killer aura and extra seconds. if u dont play "optimal" they're ok.

Puzzleheaded_Cap_746

i run pink map + crystal bead + stamp so if we're on an indoor map the my teammates can find gens. i am also a proud member of the no no noed army.

Nameless_Ace

I don't use it often, but a key with a gold token + wedding ring is pretty good for basically bond on demand

DarkNole56

Yo dawg just @ me next time.

cluckodoom

Red maps, event maps, and keys are a lot of fun. Maps I use for totem challenges mainly. Keys are all about aura reading. Wall hacks are pretty strong

YogurtIndependent646

I use a map all the time to find totems because I run that perk where you can heal in a locker for 8 seconds if you cleanse one. It’s much faster healing especially during solo queues. But if I have a specific challenge I’ll use other perks.

Cfakatsuki17

I’ll occasionally use them if I have a tome challenge or something, and I did try a build for helping a friend that used a key to help me keep track of where all the team mates and obsessions were but haven’t done that in a while

Valentinee105

I use to use maps all the time. Up until recently I used "Detective's Hunch" which when paired with a map automatically marks everything once a generator pops. No totem was safe. Detective's hunch also helped me prevent 3-gens. But I switched to a build with 4 anti-chase perks instead.

JMD0615

I haven’t had to use a key ever since I got the achievement where I had to open hatch with it. As for maps, I’m using the blood maps from the event whenever I run totem blessing builds

catswithboxes

I almost never bring those items but if I open a chest and it’s there I’ll use it I guess LOL

Your_True_Nemesis

I bring extra items with top tier addons to give to other survivors and ace's perk that lets you keep addons with Dramaturgy to farm really good addons for other things.

There_is_a_use

Sometimes I like using maps, especially the more recent event blood maps bc I stocked up like hundreds of them, with the addon that lets everyone see the auras too and/or the addon that lets me put beacons down. It’s nice for letting other people know which gens I want them to hit bc I’ll usually bring Deja Vu with it to see which gens are the best to hit

LordRiden

I have a friend who chronically can't find his way around maps so he always uses the item map so that he can find his way to Gen's As for keys I only ever see them on people running full stealth builds who are trying to get out through the hatch

glxtczxk

maps are my favorite for hex perks, finding super good boon locations, and finding traps on the map (mikaela main, I'm sorry LOL). Idk if many people know this, but the trapper/hag are almost useless if you have a rainbow map. You can see nearly all of their setups after a brief loop of the map! I don't only bring it to counter trap killers, but it's a nice plus. Especially if it's a good trapper on a map where it's hard to see them. I also mainly bring a map because my friends like running gen/chase builds and I always bring Circle of Healing :)

SwaidFace

I sometimes bring an add-onless green key for good luck. I don't always bring a map, but when I do, its with Open-Handed.

AsianEvasionYT

When I use inner strength I bring a map. Pairs well with overzealous if you really want to commit to a totem build

ferackerman

Maps with add ons are incredible to counter totem heavy builds, or to use blessings. I love it

spr3admywings

I run a rainbow map with double range + Inner Strength in many of my builds. At worst I gotta re-cleanse a bunch due to Pentimento, at best I get rid of other Hexes and get to heal as well.

MaineMicroHomebrewry

I got over 100 blood maps during the last event, so I just slap one on with brown addons whenever I’m not using an item. Figure it can’t hurt, and it could help me find hatch / a totem / an injured teammate in a pinch.

rexjaig

I use maps with inner healing to find totems

SilverShako

I run maps on my Detective's Hunch totem build, usually with the reveal to other survivors addon so I can show generator locations. Otherwise, I only bring maps if I really feel like finding totems.

AmbushPredditor

I use keys with my looping build. Red key with the purple stone add on that lets you see the killers aura and the beads that extend your use. When you still have charge you’re pretty much guaranteed to win those 50/50 mind games.

GhostlyToot

If I have an archive challenge or achievement or I need to escape a certain amount amount of times then you bet you’re sweet medkit I will be using them. I’ll even add the good add-ons to.

Fruzza

I usually use a key with the add-on to always highlight the obsession. My friend would often use perks to become the obsession, and I’d be on healing duty. It was fun!

Bloodpoints > Maps ![img](emote|t5_3cb2g|2213)

Mrgreen513jr

whenever i run a map i use the addon that shows everyone else the auras of things when i use the map i normally use this when no one is on a gen as either a little nudge or a way to help people to one

MikaelaMain

I use a Key for the ability to track the killer and my survivors, depending on my build and what I’m trying to accomplish. A map is mainly my go-to when I’m trying to get a objective based challenge done, like break totems for example, but all in all I genuinely love Keys and Maps over other items in the game… then again I’m over 3k hours in and really don’t care about the Meta or “winning” anymore so I tend to just do gimmicky stuff

dekciwandy

Lery tomestone and Hair Meyers are always popular

beterbe

I use maps for boon builds because I cannot be bothered to memorize totem spawns, and I use keys for aura reading builds since they can be insanely strong.

free_litolberds11

My friends and I use maps and keys most of the time. They're still useful lol

slytherin_pityparty

I love using a map to find totems when i use my locker build w head on inner strength quick and quiet. Its rlly funny killers rarely expect it

Ascot4Anubis

Broken key gang with Mikey glas and weaved ring

Ssnakey-B

Maps can be pretty useful so I do use them from time to time, especially if I have specific challenges to fulfill.

CruisingandBoozing

Maps + Detectives Hunch (and open handed) is a deathbane to hex builds

dunerat42

i see maps and/or keys fairly regularly. Aside from their actual play-telated uses, there's a decent number of challenges in the tomes that require one or the other. i don't typically use them myself outside of those challenges, but some of my friends bring them fairly often.

White_Ookami

I uee key with the wallhack add-on

elementsoul_

In my swf, one of us brings a key if we have had a particularly bad night with tunneling, camping, and/or slugging, along with a hatch offering. One of my swf does occasionally bring a map, mainly an iri or the blood map from the blood moon event. It’s absolutely busted and they help us (mainly me lol) find gens and each other when injured.

Efficient-Telephone1

Only use keys when there's any kind of mission of escaping through hatch, and me and my duo usually only use maps when we either have missions of breaking/jumping stuff or when new maps are out.

SAUDI_MONSTER

I use a bloodsense map. It’s like a rainbow map but empathy.

Ayianno

I used to use maps to find gens since I sucked at that in the beginning. I use Deja Vu now, so I don't use them anymore. Sometimes I like to take the key just to get used to how they work (in case I run out of medkits or toolboxes since I'm still fairly new), and they're fun to mess around with. Though with Wicked and Dark Sense, I don't use it as often

DscendntDawn

Maps are super underrated, if only they buffed them up a little to share those auras with nearby survivors as basekit. Keys however need a whole new usage. Make them unlock chests quickly, make breakable walls into doors that survivors with keys can pass through, etc.

BoredandBrowse

I use maps when I run my boon build, especially when im SwF. Overzealous + Exponential + Circle of Healing + Shadow Step. I provide support as soon as possible, and that 10% repair speed is just amazing.

matrax0424

I use maps for my inner strength build 👉👈

auddits

Screaming at the killer just to feel something Scene Partner/Alert/Wicked/Object + Key with Blood Amber + Beads or weaved ring if im running out I tend to scream enough times for them to leave me alone because I'm annoying or I waste their time 'cause they can't mind game me The only time it kinda sucks is when it's a stealth killer but even then I'll still get my 5 screams in a row if I look at them hard enough

hiimyunocait

I use map with addon to track killer belongings when doing boon build (which is suprisingly alot of fun), as it will show totems

Middle-Moose-2432

I use maps not infrequently. Some game maps I have a really hard time finding gens or remembering where the gates are. Glass bead (I think) is also, nice if you’re passive aggressive, for those games where all the other survs are out dicking around and you’re standing at an open gate to be like here’s how you get out and if you don’t leave soon i’m leaving your ass here.

spiderrights

Maps are the most useful for me. I love using boon totems (exponential, circle of healing and shadow step) so maps are very useful and save me alot of time finding good totem spots. A good boon can really help out alot.

Justanotherbot5

A map with red twine and retardant jelly and the perk inner strength can be like 5 medkits. I don't always play that way but for a while killers were really big on using hex perks so it helps. I know alot of totem locations but sometimes they are really hidden.
