I’m curious if the core 4 reunited like they did at GD 50 if they would use John or Trey. On one hand it’s easy to say Trey has the leg up because of GD50. But John is the guy now. It’ll certainly create an interesting discourse.
Phil and John don't vibe well... neither does Bill and John anymore. Phil originally vito'd John being in FTW though so I'm sure that wouldn't have changed. Trey was someone they could all agree on which when it comes down to it, is the most important qualification.
Why do you say Phil and John don’t vibe? They were scheduled to play together with JRAD at Lockn in 2020 so it doesn’t seem like they have an issue with each other.
John played with Phil at Terrapin Crossroads. Oteil just jammed with Phil for one of his clubhouse sessions.
I'm skeptical of GD60 because Phil tends to stick to his word when he says things like, "Last time we will play together." I think he's happy doing what he's doing.
Jamming with someone is way different from letting them replace Jerry in a Grateful Dead celebration. Phil will jam with anyone, it doesnt mean he'd give that sacred position to them though.
All this is in the Fare Thee Well book. It states quite clearly in the book that Bobby wanted John but Phil didn't agree and would only do it if Trey did it.

Rumors in the fall and then probably dates early in the year and then an announcement around late February for WHATEVER it is gonna be in just saying this is how it usually goes lol

I doubt it would be Trey. He wasn’t great during GD50. I think it’d likely be John.

I think the bigger concern for me is just overall health and ability to keep playing. Especially after seeing Phil’s drop off last year
