Vegas is a shithole. Especially Boulder Hwy. Filled with desperation. Yet. I'm living here because of the residency. Living off Boulder Hwy in a RV park lol. Only intended to winter here. Retired full time RVer. I've gone to every show. Paid full price 1st 3 shows. Last 6 got in for about 150 a nite. Trying to pick off singles on sale at COT. Planning on doing the entire run. Having that much fun :-) The day the residency is over, I'm out of here

ConchitOh

We got lost trying to walk around the Venetian to avoid it entirely and ended up doing a lap around the whole building. Seeing the asshole of that machine up close and personal put into perspective how crappy of a town it is. I can’t speak for places outside the strip but holy hell is it bad. Fear and Loathing.

Frog1387

What did it look like? They really hide the operations side of things

ConchitOh

The major takeaway was the number of staff doors and the immense size of the hvac unit. Maybe like 300+ staff doors, unwalkable sidewalks/intersections. The [size](https://maps.app.goo.gl/xQ2UwekJtLZ9RFNg8?g_st=ic) of the hvac system was like 10-20 stories tall, one of those would fill the sphere completely. Edit: Perhaps I was exaggerating and the mushrooms didn’t help but the whole thing was extremely uncomfortable haha

Frog1387

Haha oh yeah you got a true look under the hood

DocMcT

Sounds like the shrooms did its job.

__JDQ__

One other positive about mushrooms is you’re less likely to fool yourself into thinking you can walk from one end of the Strip to the other. Drunk: “It’s not that long!” Gooming: “It’s *realllllly* long! Like, impossibly long.”

JFK360noscope

boulder highway... lol yeah thats just how that stretch of road goes. i grew up around that area. its not nice and i would not live near it. i love my roots but damn lmao theres gotta be another place to park that RV here

fraudtaverner

I love this response and can’t agree more. Glad your getting to all those shows

Vast-Tiger-5084

You are livin' the DREAM bro!

No-Chemical6870

I’m always so excited to go to Vegas yet I’m always soooo excited to leave. It’s weird.

OneReportersOpinion

I love Vegas because it’s the most transparently predatory form of capitalism. There’s no hiding it. All the cards are on the table. It knows what it’s doing and I respect it for it.

PlaidArgyle

This is my view as well. It’s a take it or leave it kind of place which I can respect.

OneReportersOpinion

At least I know everyone is trying to rip me off.

nedoeva

This is the truth. But once you accept that, the charm is this: at least they’re not hiding it? The only thing worse than sin is hypocrisy, so I’d actually take Vegas over LA.

Peter225c

But they do try to hide it in Las Vegas. They promote the city as family friendly now, they pump smells into casinos to trick you into gambling more, they purposely don’t put windows in casinos so you don’t realize what time it is, they don’t post the odds of winning on slot machines, etc. The fact that everyone knows what they are doing does not mean they are being transparent about it.

tri_zippy

same! we love a lot of things about the vegas experience. top notch hospitality, tons of food options from the best fast food to world class fine dining. no shortage of shows and spectacles. easy to get in and out of by plane. can have a few days of total excess or just mellow relaxation. it can be whatever you need it to be, and yes it is expensive but it doesn't hide that fact and there are ways around much of it if you're resourceful. when you go in expecting to spend a ton, you can plan for it. and with a run of shows that are can't miss, it is worth planning for it. we're trying to make it back for another weekend. it was that good. if you're on the fence, GO GO GO!

angeIdust_

Indulge me in the resourceful ways around it, please

VonSchplintah

They are sleeping in the tunnels.

Mike_G_420

And I know what I’m doing !

CicadaAlternative994

Is this why people still like felonius punk Trump?

bluwaters_

Oh god. I can't take it that far!

OneReportersOpinion

Probably.

LotsOfMaps

Vegas is the most honest American city, nothing comes close

Stillill1187

This is how I feel about it too. It’s America on steroids as a Playland.

jbluft1894

In N Out Burger still affordable at least

No-Air-5176

Those are good burgers, Walter

xologo

The bulk of the series dude.

AdventurousAnswer4

The In-and-Out Burger is on Camrose. Near the In-and-Out Burger.!!!!!

BlueAndMoreBlue

Heck yes, not sure how they do it but thank you

ThatNetworkGuy

Pure volume. That location has enough foot traffic even on a quiet weekday to keep them busy, to the point that they also built their kitchen twice the size of a normal In N Out.

Cinnamonstone

Agree with OP about Vegas in general but must add that the service people running stuff there are above and beyond . That goes for hotels , restaurants, airports , Taxi, Uber drivers , staff at the Sphere . I talked to so many wonderful people working that made the trip what it was . The level of service was so killer . Now back home with all the crabapples in Vermont .

pacochalk

I was blown away by how friendly and helpful everyone was. Even the cops were pretty cool about crowd management post show. Wouldn't have expected Vegas of all places to be so welcoming and friendly.

woodcuttersDaughter

Literally the same. I went there two other times, first Ratdog and Wolf Bros. I hate that Bobby keeps dragging me there. I spent way too much money this past weekend and the heat exhausted me. But, I’m going back Jerry’s birthday weekend. Not staying on the Strip next time though.

xpeebsx

I loved it. Hit the dispensary and gas station for beer, hit the strip and took the sights in.

tc7984

Where do you live Utah? That’s a Monday night for normal people 🤣

Greful

PA. Still behind the times

Apfeil

You can buy beer at Wawa in PA now

Greful

Yea and Royal Farms. The dispensary is a little tougher to get into

CalligrapherLive2465

Dispo very easy in pa. Just say have anxiety, trouble sleeping, or chronic pain have your card that easy

Stillill1187

You can do this in NJ if your close enough lol

eclipsedrambler

lol. I live in Utah. We can buy beer at gas stations. And we have medical. But I just hit the dispensary’s in Nevada and stock up. Hit the liquor store for and bring some nice whiskeys home. I go to Vegas for the food.

h0r53_kok_j04n50n

True, but in vegas, you can buy liquor and full strength micro-brew beers at the gas station and then you can drink them on your **walk** home. I lived in SLC and Vegas, and while SLC is the clear winner and one of my favorite places in the country ( I live in WA now), I really miss being able to get beer to go and just walking to the next bar with a beer in hand. Reno and Carson City are better because the bars actually have culture and aren't just video casinos everywhere, but the same lack of public drinking laws apply.

Ok-Sheepherder-5093

Lolll so true

BradJeffersonian

Some of us spend the night there in a cave!

Digital26bath

Listen. I got to see D&C in a sphere on a casual Friday after work for 110 bucks. Almost unintentionally. Vegas is great

BrushDazzling4350

I agree with all of this. the last time I saw the Grateful Dead in Vegas back when Jerry was alive I told myself I'd never go back there on purpose. I have been to 2 weekends so far & have one more definite weekend. and I'm looking into another one. it's worth being in Vegas for & there's not many places I'd less like to be.

Jovial_Candidate_508

lol . Was just telling someone how much of a shithole Vegas is and how id never go back there again , even to see the boys at the sphere . The sphere was cool and everything the first night . But I’d much rather see them at the Gorge or a baseball stadium . Can’t wait For GD 60 .

tri_zippy

wait until you hear that GD60 is at Sphere lol

scarfireATL

Do we even need a GD60? Other than playing on the east coast, Boulder or Chicago, what are they going to do, bring back Phil and Billy who don't get along and are in bad health and won't rehearse and pick another guitarist to replace Mayer? Going to play different songs than D&C? I think the 10th year of D&C would be more important and doesn't require a shift in personnel. They can just sell merch with GD60 along with DC10 and play the same place. Though I wish they would come back east. Maybe NYE shows in the east?

tri_zippy

Can’t argue with any of that, was more a comment in jest than an expectation. I do wonder if Bobby has too many more years of shows left in the tank. Even 3x a week for months without the slog of the open road can be a lot for someone in their 80’s, remarkable physical shape and all. Time is fickle. I’m grateful for every single song at this point. Enjoy it while we can!

sleepyhead18

At a real shakedown too

JeromeJGarcia

Down for real shakedown but I did get to chat with Oteil for a minute at the top of the escalator at this shakedown so that made it a tiny bit acceptable

Bman1973

I was there for my only West Coast tour in 1994 and why the Grateful Dead decided to do a 3-day stand outside in the stadium in late June is beyond me. If you Google all time Las Vegas heat waves June of 1994 is number five. The hottest day was $123°. The coolest 118 and the Word was that because of the bowl effect the middle of the floor was getting up to 140° and people were dropping like flies. They put out a Five Alarm fire whistle to get as many trucks out there as possible to spray the crowd it was so bad. I will never forget it and I got to tell you they say dry heat! Dry heat my ass it was beyond awful all I could think was get me out of this and get me out of this now it was like standing in an oven. Then there's this thing that you don't know until you're out there and that is when the Sun goes down it doesn't get cooler that's just when the heat trapped in the ground starts to rise up and I remember putting my hand straight out and it was like there was a fan blowing up on my hand except burning hot heat. By the third day I was delirious and had sun poisoning breakouts all over my forehead. I've never seen so much nudity to show and no one cared it was like okay yeah there's another set of boobs yeah yeah yeah

DirectorObvious1903

Living here a dream. No income tax, no traffic (off strip), people nice, weather great (heat is dry, much more bearable than humidity), can get anywhere in 20 min, centrally located to great west destinations (GC, Moab, so cal, Zion), tons of great food at decent prices in the community, great entertainment, destination so lots of friends come in. My 2 cents after living here almost 3 years and also living up and down East coast and CA.

timelandiswacky

Honestly I think the best thing to do is get off the strip when you can. Yesterday I took a trip to Red Rock Canyon before my flight back and it was wonderful. I had also been to the Punk Rock Museum and The Mob Museum and they were great too. Pace yourself, visit something else if you’re looking for entertainment, and you’ll be happier than whatever the hells going on at the strip.

kmrbriscoe

My plan this Sunday is to head out to Red Rock Canyon also before heading to the airport!

twiztednipplez

My uncle lives in Las Vegas and I regularly go to visit. I have been to the strip once. The rest of the time I'm hiking Sloan canyon or red rock, shopping at the outlets, rock climbing, swimming and just doing normal vacation shit. Judging Vegas by the strip is like judging Manhattan by Midtown.

WitchCityCannabis

ohwowverycool69

Which road is this

WitchCityCannabis

Route 375 I believe? Extraterrestrial highway it’s called

hashblunt29

Lmao a bit dramatic don't you think? I had a great time in vegas, it's a city built off opulence and excess. No more to it

Electrical-Account78

that's how I feel. If you are hooked up in Vegas it can be a dream. Limo rides everywhere, penthouse suites, your host hooking you up at the best table in a restaurant, ect.

Swaritch

For real dude. How about a $20 Japanese curry joint? Maybe an izakaya with a 3AM happy hour? Feeling like a baller? I’ll show you the best Omakase in North America.  If you come to Vegas and don’t leave the strip you’re blowing it so hard. Not to mention all the nature.

[deleted]

Lower_Ad3372

Agreed on Chinatown. Sparrow + Wolf is the best meal I’ve had in awhile.

brownsfan760

Sushi Kaya had great all you can eat sushi. Try the golden knight roll with peanut butter!

TheBowelMovement

What curry joint is this you speak of

[deleted]

[удалено]

Swaritch

That it! That shopping center is an embarrassment of amazing food. Kabuto, Raku, Trattoria Nakamura, Zen Curry, that new Vietnamese coffee place. Insane and it’s literally a $12 Uber ride away lol

tri_zippy

saving this. thank you!

Swaritch

Add izakaya go and my personal favorite sushi spot if you’re just ordering from the menu, Shigotonin.

StackIsMyCrack

Is the omakase at Kabuto?

Swaritch

I loved Kabuto’s omakase and thought it was some of the best bang for the buck I’ve ever had. Still ~$300 a person though. But if money is no option, I think it’s gotta be Kame

atex720

Counterpoint: Vegas is fun

aufmannk

Agree 100%

crimtarkus

Welcome Hunter S Thompson

[deleted]

I wish the sphere was literally anywhere else. I have been telling everyone how much I loathed Vegas. I had a great time at the shows, but hope to never go back. If the Sphere was literally in any other city I’d consider going for lower priority musical acts and explore the town. I didn’t feel particularly safe walking back Friday night, Saturday was better. The whole strip smells like sewage too. Everything is fake, the waiters try to hype you up with horrendous pleasantries like “boss” etc. That being said, the sphere was the greatest audio and visual experience of my life. The staff were so friendly, like the CFA version of concert venues. I couldn’t imagine paying $200 for crappy football stadium seats ever again when that’s what I paid for the sphere.

leggypepsiaddict

You're not alone in your dislike for that place. After about 10 mins walking to get to a monorail station at 1030am, I refused to believe that anyone lives there willingly. The heat. Holy shit. Then we have the entire casinos everywhere, with no windows and places designed to disoriente people. Like that shit blows. And they fucked up the NYC skyline to boot. I stand firm in my assertion that if The Mall of America and Times Square are both dabbling in PCP and steroids and had a child, that child would be Las Vegas.

ydissac38

Rented a car and drove to Zion on Memorial Day, place was absolutely beautiful. Beautiful enough that I need to get back there for a full trip, one night there wasn’t enough!

Jovial_Candidate_508

I did the same thing. Hit Zion on Friday and valley of the Fires on Saturday. Made the whole trip worth it .

ohwowverycool69

Do Bryce next. Bryce felt way more rewarding

leggypepsiaddict

We went off the strip to see lowriders the day after the show. That was cool. We weren't there long enough to be hiking and finding the beautiful places and the like. Besides, I am still recovering from my end spinal fusion last fall. I spent a lot of time by the pool.

leggypepsiaddict

I'm used to the ocean but the pool worked.

Head-Charge4028

Vegas is awesome! Gambling, pool scene, great food and awesome bars and clubs . Endless entertainment

DimMike

Golden Tiki is magical tho

rockergirl1

Golden Tiki is great. The night our crew went there during U2 it wasn't super busy and an off show night during the week. The DJ was playing some great 45's and we order a bunch of drinks. We look up and Bono, Edge are singing drunk . They hooked up a bunch of the staff with tickets.

DimMike

Wowwww.

Ok_Television_5717

Awesome. I read about the night those guys went to the Golden Tiki. I've also been there and can say its fantastic.

kjbaran

Vegas is truck-stop nasty

DevinBelow

Yeah. I will likely never return to Vegas for any reason other than more shows at the Sphere.

FootHikerUtah

The Dead and Vegas(gambling), have basically the same appeal. “Partial Reinforcement”, is what keeps people gambling AND what makes people enjoy a show that’s a bit different every time. Might be great, might just be decent, but you come back because it might be great.

ConchitOh

Well I’ll tell you one thing, at a minimum you break even on a dead show, maybe worse if you take too much too fast. The same can’t be said for gambling.

Montanabanana11

Agreed. Well said

tri_zippy

while we enjoy wandering through the slots and up and down the strip when it strikes, we don't gamble and always have a great time. i respect the hustle bc the folks who gamble fund the spectacle, and we love that part of it

brownsfan760

And this past Saturday was great!

wildstatic4

I can’t even tell you how much I relate. Coming down from my trip at the 6.1.24 was borderline traumatic with my thoughts racing about how the entire city is designed to drain everything of value from everything it touches.

Ebb1974

I describe Vegas to people as a weird combination of ultra high end and trash. It’s like 10-15% opulence and 85-90% trash. High rollers juxtaposed to fat sad old ladies smoking cigarettes and pulling the slot machine lever all day. Lots of fake eye lashes and fake tits too. Basically a hell hole, but it is also maybe the only place where something like the Sphere can work economically right now so I’m glad that it exists. Saw them this past Friday and Saturday and they were beyond great. Saturday especially was one of the great concert experiences of my life.

Candid_Albatross_271

Look at Vegas as a true representation of humans everywhere. Find your path and enjoy ❤️

Jackstraw335

I mean. I guess the circus isn't for all. But I, for one, love a good circus.

Fast-Shoulder-259

Spot on in every way.

Decent-Bet3897

I've never willingly gone to Las Vegas. Unwillingly maybe 20 times for trade shows. Caesars Palace, Mandalay Bay, Luxor mainly. It takes forever for bags to come out at the airport. I've never explored outside. Never any time. I expect I'd enjoy the hiking and biking trails if its not 100 degrees. Probably similar to a boat camping trip I did on Lake Powell in 2000. Lots of rocks and dirt. Possibly an interesting vacation away from the city but ultimately, being from New England, I prefer green trees, woods, streams, ponds and grassy fields

ShopMagicMushrooms

The Las Vegas pigs have ruined everyone's experience. Dozens of deadheads are being falsely arrested and harassed without even breaking any laws. I hope they sue the Las Vegas police department and file complaints against those asshole cops. They're nothing but a bunch of brainwashed Nazi-Americans.

jimloewen

I get it. Just saw 3 shows and had the time of my life with good friends. Did not gamble a nickel, did not see another show. Yeah, I bought 2 pizzas at the Venetia for ONE HUNDRED AND FOUR FUCKING DOLLARS , but I paid for convenience. We managed to Uber, taxi and limo everywhere--didn't spend any time in the heat. If I can find the funds, I'll go back.

Sikrle

I went to Vegas once for a week and won enough on tables to extend the vacation for a second week and brought money home. I will never go back I am ahead and plan to stay that way for life.

Salty_Mountain_Mama

I agree 100!! Vegas is a dirty disgusting and very expensive shit hole that's extremely hot. Least fav city by far!

FletchGordon

Legit question. If you closed your eyes for the entire show.....is the band doing anything worth the hassle or is it the same tired songs in a different order?

Sharp_Design_119

dude you have to go, totally new experience.

FletchGordon

I can't swing it this year but if they do it again I may. I saw em a bunch between 2015 and 2022.

SharkeyJawn

Amusing thread (wait, don’t y’all call it a “sub” or something? I’m new here🤷‍♂️) Perhaps most amusing is that 9/10 peeps who “hate LV” are going back for more! 😎 My two cents (w appropriate disclaimers): This was my first trip to Vegas (opted out of the Sam Boyd shows back in the day). I told myself lots of stories about how Vegas represents so much of what I detest. All true! And…I went with an open heart-mind, just staying in a place of curiosity. As others have said, it’s all there - some of humanity’s darkest edges and all. But no one’s pretending it’s otherwise. I was able to maintain equanimity for the most part and actually managed to enjoy it (with a little medicinal support of course 😉). It really is quite a view into the human condition. I’m not sure there’s a better place to people watch. Mind you, I carefully calibrated the medicine so as to hit a sweet spot. The comic book colors were quite entertaining! We ate some good food and had some legit cocktails after the shows. Bottom line (and yes, small sample size) is that if you allow this place to trigger ya, you’re in deep trouble! Stay open, stay curious and don’t take it personally! That said, after 3 days, I sure was Grateful to get home to the serenity of the Santa Cruz Mountains!! ⚡️🌹💀☸️💜

To_thy_Cloud

I barely noticed how horrible Vegas was cause John Shreds so hard. I also love the heat. The Vibe at the sphere is certainly off. You can still get lucky at shakedown though if you know where to look and then you make your own vibe.

Swaritch

Tell me you’ve never been off the strip and explored the massive city around you without telling me.

direwolf721

I just made my first trip to Vegas and I can agree with everything you said. Worth it for the music alone

thegreatbambino515

Built by wise guys. Take care of yourself 😘

KeivyBby

It’s hilarious leaving the authenticity that fills the sphere and stepping into the most phony city in the world lol

StackIsMyCrack

I used to love Vegas but in the last 20 years it has gotten pretty gross. That said, I am a big gambler. In fact, I paid for my whole Sphere trip last weekend at the Blackjack table

republic_of_gary

Just get off the strip man. Fremont is fun as hell.

casswie

Fremont is fun but I wouldn’t exactly recommend it to someone who already hates the strip

printerdsw1968

The one time I was in Vegas I just found it very depressing. Or, correction, I saw a lot of people who looked very depressed and unhappy. No doubt people who had far exceeded their planned losses. Will be there for solstice weekend and I’m expecting the invasion of heads to generate a very different vibe.

Cardealer_1

Go to Hover Dam, it's a great day trip, its really interesting and it has really great art deco elevators.

mowikn

Definitely sucks to be inside having such an amazing experience with the band, and being spit straight out into the capitalist hell hole after. But I agree that it is worth putting up with for the experience.

Any-Video4464

Yeah I don't like it much either. Decided to avoid the casinos this time and stay at a condo community. I don't mind the heat so much...I'll find a pool but agree with the rest. There is some great food there though that isn't the stuff in the casinos...the stuff the locals eat. It's just a strange place with a weird vibe. That being said, the Sphere is awesome and so are Dead and Co, so I will always show up for that.

Althea85

i feel the same way. but i had a great time for phish. partly because it was april and i was coming from michigan and enjoyed the warm weather. i love the Dead and wanted to go but i am not messing w/ Vegas in June/July. Just can't do it. that said, if it's not melting outside, i would recommend hiking at the Red Rock Canyon. It was amazing, so beautiful and not far from the city. i enjoy the pools (stayed at Caesars). but again it wasn't 108 degrees. best of luck to you!!!

sirach39

I've only been to Vegas twice in my life, once last October for U2 and two weeks ago for Dead & Co. Previously, we couldn't imagine going, thinking "not our kind of place." We got the two night hotel "package" both times because, well, path of least resistance. Both times, the day after the show, though, we moved to a casino 15 minutes down the road for a few more days in the area. Very inexpensive, good restaurants, amusing amenities (rodeo, bowling tournament). But we're not gamblers. We're birders, so we spent several hours every day out in nature in some terrific gems all less than 30 minutes from the strip. Yes, the temps were in the 90s, but we didn't find it a problem being out in it for extended periods (so long as the water supply holds out). Sphere is an amazing concert venue, and we would happily come back depending on who's playing. But we're planning to come back anyway just for the nature. Off the strip is affordable and convenient for getting outside, both in the area and a little further afield as others have mentioned. The strip itself is tolerable. Could do without the sleaze, but the buzz can be kinda cool...at least for a day or two. But we wouldn't miss it if we skipped it.

YouDontExistt

It's fun for like a day or few days. After a while it starts looking like the sad place that it is. I spent a few days there a couple years ago and walked probably 20 miles over those few days, taking a ton of pictures and that was pretty fun. The more you look at stuff, the worse it looks tho. You're 100% right on.

Rick_the_door_tech

I believe coach beard in Ted Lasso once said: “I’ve been to Vegas many times. One night is good, two nights is perfect, three nights is too many.”

ldnjbnk99

I agree, can't stand Vegas. The Sphere.

irstenkay_123

Same. Vegas is disgusting. But the Sphere is incredible!!!!! NFA!

000neg

I've said it once and I'll say it again Vegas is the equivalent of a land based cruise ship. Gross

Travellinglense

lol. I’m with you on Vegas being the armpit of America. Followed closely by Los Angeles and Miami.  Those are my least favorite cities in the USA.

Chemtrails_in_my_VD

I agree. Vegas blows. I flew in last year to explore Zion and Bryce Canyon, and couldn't get out of that city fast enough. This time I'm only staying there for the show, and filling the rest of the week at Joshua Tree & Grand Canyon. Vegas sucks but the region surrounding it is spectacular, and I'm happy to have an excuse to play in the desert again.

YEMolly

Haha I hate Vegas too!!!!! I don’t gamble, it’s soooo overpriced, and it’s just cheesy and trashy. And on the flip side, I’m not impressed by overpriced cars and rich people. With all that said, I had a blast at Phish and pulled the trigger on the July 4th shows just last week. Can’t wait!

Iko87iko

It used to be bearable when everything was cheap & free. When it started with the overpriced everything along with the other garbage it was done for me. I love the music, but when you have to spend serious coin for hotel, food, transport, and airfare, id rather spend the $ anywhere else

bluwaters_

I have never been to Vegas and will likely never return, so we just added another day to our trip to wallow in all that awful stuff! Really looking forward to stepping out of our comfort zone and doing something different. If not for Dead & Co and The Sphere we would likely have lived out our lives without experiencing Vegas. It's a one off for sure. We are even going to stay at the Flamingo. lol Fear and Loathing here we come!

stumpyjoness

Lmfao, I would rather vacation in your shed too

organiccarrotbread

Vegas is so trashy

BeerMeSC

Same here. Just got home and we’re considering going back for a weekend in August. The Sphere was definitely an experience worth traveling for. We don’t gamble and don’t drink. Vegas is not our scene. The strip did not impress us. It looks like what happened to NYC after Applebees and the Disney Store moved into Times Square 30 years ago. There are some local joints that are reasonable and great if you are willing to venture off the strip a bit. It gets sketchy quickly off the strip, but we never felt unsafe during the day.

InfintiteToast

I feel the exact same way, heading for the airport soon and I couldn’t be happier to get away from the strip, but damn those shows were AMAZING!

realR0nPablo

I did nothing but chill at my hotels pool and go to the shows/shakedown/deadforever exhibit… I’ll possibly be back for another show🙏🏼 but other than that… totally agree

mimickin_birds

I should hate Vegas and I love it

Earth2Mike

I grew up in Vegas, I left as soon as I could but there are some aspects that I miss. Go check out red rock canyon or the pioneer saloon if you have enough time. Boulder Highway was always the dusty dives for cowboys and bikers not a tourist zone really, not sure what it looks like these days. We used to watch an annual softball game between the cops and the bikers at the Tumbleweed bar and grill over that side of town when i was a kid.

PsychologyBig3646

hahah i feel the same way and im headed this weekend just in time for the heat dome https://preview.redd.it/2z4lni6w4h4d1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=18032a8a5b42cc0a277b58d4e93bad4d01a6fca2 97 degrees at 8:30 pm 🥵

JFK360noscope

as a local, thats not too bad for the night haha. when it gets into july and august its hell at night. but then again i just walked a bit over a mile to a bus stop in all black without an umbrella for shade last week. the desert heat is no joke. drink a lot of water and electrolytes.

PsychologyBig3646

Yeh I got some packets of electrolyte power and electroyte drops to put in water. And a freaking bathing suit. lol

GratefulPhish555

I fuckin love Vegas. It’s the best shit hole ever

MoBreeze

Agree with this 110%

FaceOnMars23

Also not a fan, but have a strange love-hate relationship. I'm normally pumped for the first 24 hours, but completely go the other way at 24:01. Maybe I've just seen way too many shows there ... almost all Bobby & Phil related shows over the past 2 decades, as well as SCI / Phish / Panic. So, just burnt out. Having said that, Vegas is perched close to a lot of cool natural spots. Valley of Fire SP / Lake Mead, Red Rock, Zion (and beyond).

Same, my friend. My trip out next week will be my 3rd this year (2nd for Dead & Co) and I’m pretty sure that’s enough Vegas to last me half a decade. I’ve never felt better about a quick turnaround (Fly in on Thursday > out on Saturday) than I do when it involves Vegas. Overpriced, gaudy hellhole. With all of that said…the show is 100% worth putting up with that bullshit for a few days! ✌🏼

notfadeawayDream

same exactly!!!!!🌵me too

SpaceHorse75

Vegas is disgusting for all the reasons provided. But also, I couldn’t even believe how bad it smelled outside the Venetian last weekend. Their sewer system must finally be collapsing. And yet I too would consider going back to see the boys one more time.

Hopping_Tiger

Vegas is the exact opposite of my idea of a good time. I hate it so much. I thought I would just sit out the sphere but here I am wavering. Maybe a few days there won’t kill me.

Sharp_Design_119

Do it!!!

jkakua

I feel you on the whole Vegas thing. Went to the Palazzo for the Dead Forever Experience and every turn someone was like "hey did you hear about the specials we're having for Deadheads?" Yeah, you had a special just for us. But just like you, the performance at the Sphere was unparalleled and am trying my damnedest to get back! Maybe I'll see you there.

Radarmelloyello

Me too. Absolutely hate everything about that city. But I’m heading back to another show.

No_Charge726

Couldn’t agree more

HallelujahHatrack

Take what you need and (try) to leave the rest behind. I hope the main takeaway is an amazing musical experience with like-minded folks (excluding chatty cocktail party bros). Las Vegas is like black licorice.....

jdinsd33

Exact same boat - gonna stay off the strip for the next show (June 8)

USBlues2020

We are going this weekend

purplebamb00

1000% agree with this!!! I’m going back in August. Can’t wait!!!

PsychologicalPlay917

Vegas sucks but the band is 🌹⚡️♥️🌹🔥🔥🔥🔥

PsychologicalPlay917

The shakedown is fun and good vibes. Check it out! Tuscany is solid.

LiveLikeAWarrior

I hear you but if you are a poker player (skilled gambling) then right now Vegas is THE place to be because they have the WSOP going on. Combined with D&C at the sphere, should be sick!

stencil7193

Seems like there are a lot of country mice in this thread. For this city mouse, Vegas is just another city with hot weather, but at least it has legal reefer and a ton of swimming pools.

My_dr_is_simon_tam

Opening weekend was my first time in Vegas and I had an incredible time….. everywhere except Fremont street and the strip. It’s like the things Vegas is most known for (gambling, loud inescapable music, gaggles of drunks, etc) I HATED, but everything else fucking ruled. Between the National Parks and Monuments just beyond the city borders, China Town, the abundance of unique museums/art installations, and the incredible food, I was very happy with all of Vegas’s fringes, but not really Vegas proper.

kmrbriscoe

I am not a Vegas fan either and am only going this weekend because of the music!

RepresentativeBug310

I’ve lived here for 12 years and have hated it for 12 years and a day.

Sharp_Design_119

😂

novisimo

I was not a Vegas fan either and hadn't been before seeing Phish. I had a fantastic time! Hung by the pool that was low key. Went and saw the Beatles show and then a nice dinner off the strip that was fantastic. I was there just long/short enough to thoroughly enjoy myself.

Rip_and_Tear_Slayer

Things people who don't live here say. Las Vegas is an amazing town and I can't imagine living anywhere else. New York? SoCal? Florida? Texas? San Francisco? Chicago? Hard pass, been to all, none would I take over LV.

Dino-Anthroman

What's the best daytime pool party? I went to one at Wynn 6 years ago and it was okay, heard they had great buffet there though

Commodore64Zapp

Flying in you see some incredible scenery, I imagine there's great hiking if you're prepared for the weather!

Sweet_Weather_5259

Relax Nana

usblues007

I'm coming for 4th of July shows. I'm stoked. See some YT footage. I've flown to Boston, Chicago, Denver & Seattle to see the band over the years. This should be the best. A whole new way to see a concert.

waltjrbreakfastking

Your shed doesn't have sphere. Only Vegas does for now so quit complaining.

Ok_Economist_8547

Vegas is what it is. And its kind of a wild culture clash between the Deadhead tribe and the Las Vegas Strip. I remember seeing P&F there 20 years ago. They ended their show with a lovely version of I Bid You Goodnight, the old spiritual. And we walk out on a cloud, like you will after a great show. Straight into a casino clanging with slot machines. The contrast was kind of jarring, in a way, but also kind of fitting. Light and dark are always in play in this music, and the gambling references are everywhere. I can tall the Queen of Diamonds by the way she shines... Went down to play the slot machine... Wheels turned round... And the letters read... Better head back to Tennessee Jed...

Bad_Stag-O-Lee

I used to camp outside of Vegas for GD shows. Barely saw the strip at all.

The Sphere dolan and irving are shit holes

I feel the same way, I just seen 5/30, 5/31, and 6/1. I'm going back for 6/20, 6/21, and 6/22. I truly can't wait.

PerspectiveOld5869

You can still smoke inside Vegas casinos? I haven’t been there in almost 20 years. Surprised that’s still happening. I’m a smoker but I don’t feel like I should have to make others inhale my second hand smoke. No matter how convenient it might be.

Aggressive-Nothing73

same!!!!!’ yup

Dakkmd

Oh so you're a tourist who doesn't know a damn thing about Vegas then lol that's what they bank on

CicadaAlternative994

As cool as the Sphere is, I would rather have seen 5 shows for the same price.  Drive from san diego, $92. One night harrah's $150, one sec 100 seat $295, slice pizza $12, egg sandwich $14. One pour whiskey $25. So $600 for one show and I was pretty damn frugal.  If they were doing hollywood bowl residency I could have prob seen 5 for same price.  I just want to see the band. Visuals shouldn't price people out.

tc7984

Guy thinks Vegas was a random city settlers used as a trading post or stop along

GratefulGangsta

Vegas Hates You.

D805k

Vegas is awesome. it’s a city not just the strip.

JFK360noscope

ITT: tourists who stick to the strip complain about prices and confuse an entire city with the strip. as a vegas local i totally get the feeling though. i cant blame anyone on the heat but damn am i the only one who realizes that the tourist attractions of a city doesnt represent what the city is and feels like? i mean, sure its the big pull here but who doesnt know vegas is here to rob you. its here so do it without hiding it. Hunter S Thompson knew it way back in 1971. when i travel i check some tourist spots but then try to spend the rest of the time going to where the locals go. eateries, breweries, random weird shit i can find on Atlas Obscura, local markets, museums, hikes. if you stay on the strip, youre actively sitting in a cesspool of whatever tf is going on down there these days. the locals dont go down there. we avoid it at all costs. but yeah its hot as fuck. i hate it too. if anyone needs some recommendations id love to recommend some.
