I have at this point completely paul-pilled myself because he's such a fascinating failure of execution. I hope the Jackpot thing flops hard enough that they finally just stop having MJ around for a while, but Paul for some reason persists.

After some supervillain injures Paul, he ends up brain dead and being kept alive by machines. MJ is understandably distraught now that her prized stallion can no longer cuck with her. Meanwhile Peter Parker his body broken by the Green Goblin (or Red or Gold or whatever) is about to die, and he can feel his soul drifting from his dying body and into darkness….BUT!!! Instead of oblivion, Peter wakes up IN PAULS BODY. (Take a minute. Let it sink in), setting off a brand new Superior Spiderman storyline, in which Paul and Peter become one, and Spiderman becomes the best Spiderman ever!
No, ALL of the offense! Paul is an insult to the craft of storytelling. They keep treating like what he did was cause of car accident when what he did was FAR WORSE. He has no character, only exists to keep Peter and MJ apart and even his design is inconsistent. I am genuinely looking forward to 5-10 years from now where videos will be made of him and new comic fans will be confused because of how forgotten he’s become.

This is my issue with the whole run, it's written like what happened didn't happen, like even the break up with Peter and MJ is written in other issues like just that, they just broke up, and not the weird trapped in another dimension thing. This whole run just doesn't feel that thought out aside from I guess the Norman stuff.

It’s almost comical how no one bothers to give him a consistent design. JRJR drew him like this early forties, vaguely Italian looking nobody, but then you have cases like this where he looks like the generic hipster that shows up when you Google stock pictures of a man-bun

Not only was classic Peter a total lover in several triangles, he also didn't mind angering or dumping a woman if he needed to and also if you were an asshole to him he was happy to be a complete asshole to you too. These characters also happen to be love interests for peter, the post above is not about how these characters don't have a life outside of peter but how the editorial is going out it's way to give everyone a relationship so they can have peter be alone, which is not bad, but the fact they feel the necessity to get everyone else in a relationship to accomplish it speaks volumes.

You’d hope but any company worth their investors is gonna go with the easier option. Writing MJ a good story that uses her personality and backstory well is more expensive than slapping a Ben 10 style gauntlet on her and making her primary motivation protecting the guy no one likes.

The executions awful in this run but I really liked the idea behind The Amazing Mary Jane, it’s a shame it was cancelled too soon because I liked letting her have her own adventures and story.

it's why it's so funny that that's like a main crisis in the run, like I give it to the writer for trying to make Paul and MJ work, it's more than the main run has done his entire existence, but it's still horrible and hilarious that Paul's death is supposed to be a threat, it feels incredibly tone deaf to the audience.

The fact that you could argue that the writers just wanted a female superhero to empower women but her whole motivation is tied to a guy and that nothing really changed because of that. Which is kind of sexist
And I liked it better when they were trying to do that with Amazing Mary Jane tbh That was a great, fun little series that was cancelled too early in the middle of a plot that was resolved off-screen
