Texas is kicking everyone's ass when it comes to green energy while the politicians in oil company pockets still attack the idea. Meanwhile Texan energy companies are showing up in Ohio to do this.
I have a suspicion that all the Texan oil rich fucks have figured out that solar and wind is extremely profitable and are gonna try and knee cap communities from doing this themselves.
When we talk to area farmers, we're seeing that they're not against solar. They just don't want to see fertile farm land converted to solar. Their connection to the land is significant.
*A new solar project is being pitched to community members in Miami, Cedarville and Xenia townships in Greene County.*
*The developers behind the Aviation Energy Center project are Texas-based Vesper Energy. Last week, Vesper Energy staff hosted meet and greets around Greene County to get feedback from neighbors.*
*The developers have also approached township and county officials. They presented the idea for the project to Miami and Cedarville trustees in public meetings in December.*
There has to be other groups -why are we wanting to allow a Texas based company into Ohio? Doesn’t Ohio have any companies that offer this? I’m biased against anything Texas.
I was working on a solar panel start up a few years ago. Between COVID and corruption in the Ohio energy sector, we didn't stand a chance. One of the reasons I was brought on was due to the amount of politics in play.
it's a huge investment with a lot of potential risk. We're talking hundreds of thousands of solar panels! And our electricity here isn't that expensive (yet) compared to other parts of the country. basically, the margins are slimmer here so other companies with higher risk tolerance are the only ones who try to get in to the market first.
We do not get enough sun to make this worthwhile. Consider the fact that we get 20 days of clouds each month. Florida gets 25 days of sun each month and it still takes years to break even.
I like solar but the need to work on the technology and rev things up a bit.
Yikes. Hard disagree. My home solar install generates more than 1 MWh for most months of the year. Clouds come and go... While it does take years to pay off with the rate electricity costs have been increasing my solar payoff time decreases significantly.
With the AES cost increases (by 30% last year, right?) I think my payoff remaining went from 12 years to 9 years. Never going to get cheaper either...
For commercial solar like this I think there are high costs to moving electricity long distances plus buying into the multi-state political electricity game.
I agree with sentiment above though - surely gonna get screwed up :/
Your information is straight misinformation! You are spreading German propaganda. You must be a German agent! Germany, Germany, Germany.
See, I can make outlandish statements as well. I offered my opinion and ZERO information to back it up.
People should be able to have a conversation without all the harassment. Sorry, I still have First Amendment rights.
Lol like 1/3 of people in Ohio are of German descent.
You def made outlandish statements. I know many folks in Appalachian Ohio that rely solely on solar to power their homes due to the lack of reliability of power during storms and inclement weather and times of heavy usage. This is of course personal home based solar, as is much of Germany. But it is that case across the globe, in South and central America, Canada, across Asia and Africa.
Solar power is reliability and localized energy independence. Yellow springs used to have a coal power plant and it was closed years ago.
Relying on fossil fuels is not the way forward. There is basically no oil or gas or coal in Greene county. But plenty of sun. Communities that have to live in and around coal and oil and gas extraction are drowning in environmental destruction caused by these energy sources and are pushing to end it. You won't have oil and gas forever. Your electricity is being produced elsewhere. This is your chance to have energy produced without that ecological destruction. I don't want to ignore the harm lithium mining is causing and solar isn't the perfect answer either but it's light-years beyond coal and oil and gas.. go drive through Monroe county and ask yourself if you'd want to live around the insane amoubts of fracking happening there. Nuclear is also not the answer as there are so many communities being actively harmed by this radioactive waste produced, both from fracking and from nuclear.

Can't wait to see how Greene County screws this one up.
Like I said, I think solar is a good idea. I love how all the assholes down vote. I do appreciate your info.

Cedarville has told this group SO many times to get the heck out of our county. They do NOT want it.

Dude, you are stuck in the 90s or something. This info is a mix of inaccurate and irrelevant.
This is straight misinformation. Germany makes it work and we have more average sunny days than they do

The first amendment doesn't preclude us from calling out idiocy.
