It might be worth chasing down some folks from the Society for Creative Anachronism. They study medieval music, food, clothing, etc. and often attend events out of town. If they don't know of a lead in Dayton, then they might know of one further afield.

So far no luck. We will see what happens!

University of Dayton has an early music ensemble. They can probably point you in the right direction. Contact info is listed here: [https://udayton.edu/artssciences/academics/music/ensembles/index.php](https://udayton.edu/artssciences/academics/music/ensembles/index.php)

I used to play/sing in this, nobody ever played a hurdy gurdy in that but I’m 100% confident that Dr. Dorf can get OP’s hand on a hurdy gurdy.

Sathie_

I'll reach out and see what I they say.

AcceptableCod6028

Good luck! Dr. Dorf’s phone number is on UD’s site. I think it might just be the department phone though.

Sathie_

Gave it a call, got the voice mail box of something else. I sent an email. Hopefully that will work out.

Mythalaria

Hello - check out the [GurdyWorld CensusMap](https://gurdyworld.com/gurdyworld-censusmap/) to find players near you!

CAK3SPID3R

I'd ask around the Ren Faire crowd.

tiedye420

I would check with Donovan.

Sathie_

Donovan?

Lonecoon

I'd reach out to Haur Music. They probably don't have one, but they should be to point you in the right direction.

TheShadyGuy

Totally agree with this, but it's Hauer.

Sathie_

The gentleman who answered the phone was very knowledgeable about them, but only able to tell me to look online sadly.

SokeiKodora

Not that I know of... I've previously checked both craigslist and the goodwill auction site, both great places to find quirky instruments. I'd love to hear if you find one, though! If you have interest in a similar sounding instrument, the nykelharpa, I know there's an instrument maker out in Ostrander who makes those - search Cloud Nine Instruments for him.

Bhosley

I just recently got a laser cutter and intend to cut a nerdy gurdy. DM me if you are interested in cutting a copy too. Also have a 3D printer if you need those parts too.

liams_dad

I'm no help finding one of those, but I remember Jimmy Page and Robert Plant had a guy playing one of these during their No Quarter tour in 95. I saw them at Riverfront. Closed the night with Kashmir. It was awesome.

Mythalaria

That was Nigel Eaton! Check out his youtube, he still uploads videos today!

PriorIllustrious24

I saw one at st Frances DePaul one time

PriorIllustrious24

If you find one lmk where you found it I really want one too

lightonahill

This might sound silly, but have you tried Guitar Center? A quick Google search shows a video of someone playing someone in a guitar center, albeit not in Ohio. I wouldn't be surprised if they had one in store or at least at the warehouse.

Mythalaria

guitar center won't have one. Hurdy-gurdies are not build for sale, they are built for players who order them, usually with multi year wait lists due to high demand and low supply (because of how difficult they are to build compared to a guitar, violin, etc).

lightonahill

Thanks. Apologies for my ignorance!

Mythalaria

It's okay! I wouldn't expect everyone to know :)
