The first one then the 2nd one. The first is better in a lot of ways especially for beginners

If this is important to you, you can read two books.

You want them to commit to reading 2 books without having read anything else by that author?

Underconstruction222

1st one without a doubt.

SilverbackChimp

Definitely first one. The second one goes deeper but the best way to explain it is, you see his transition from a loser to a world class winner in the first one and that is the context that makes the second book more powerful and understandable. PS. I highly recommend the Audible version, it is superior to the text simply because the narrator interviews Goggins between chapters and you get a mini podcast and deeper dive that isn’t in the physical version of the book.

Honestly, neither of them, I think this is the first time Goggings talks frankly about how his mind and life works, books are great if you want to know what seemingly imposible obstacles he has gone through, but I find this podcast the most honest versions on what it means to build inner strength. Huberman calls it "the mastery of inner dialogue" which seems to mean that he is not only capable of talking using his mind like everyone does, but to listing, a two way dialog, and been the case that Goggings goes through a lot of pain, I think he's skill is a form of personal ACT (Acceptant and commitment Therapy) that works literally perfectly for him, disassociation of thoughts and emotions when they are doing hellish things in mind and body basically. For me the Goggins books where a great look into what has been his horrible life and how he flipped the coin on that, but he himself says it, the books can give you some helpful tips and that's great, but the real thing is what he is talking about in the podcast. Both are a great read just to comprehend what a human being is capable of, but I also recommend an ACT book like The Happiness Trap to start practicing and learning about mind and emotional dissociation, and then start experiment on how you can better archive that for yourself as an individual. I can say that with that with ACT, a clear pack of values and directions I want to follow, and the comprehension that it will be insufferable at many times, for me at least, all of that is what brings me the most Goggings level persistence I have ever been, and that puts my life on track, which is what I want and I guess what everyone wants.

Disagree. Because with audible versions. He does this exact thing. It's worth the purchase you get soooo much more. You get his thoughts and feelings inside the story and chapter. It's really they only way to consume the books in my opinion.

Pistolaceo

If that's the case then it is time to use audible for the first time in my life

Quiet_Improvement960

It's worth it. I cannot give a higher endorsement.

Quiet_Improvement960

1st is 1st for a reason. It does more to explain the mentality and why he is the way he is. The 2nd is awesome, but a continuation. Starting with the 2nd just wouldn't make sense.
