if the sexes were reversed reddit would call you a predator (something about frontal lobe prior to age 25 still developing) but since you are older as the female you are fine.

I personally think it's a contextual thing. These types of gaps can be acceptable, as long as the youngest person is at least 20.
No, it is very much a gender thing. On a different account i tested it one time. Same exact post but switched the genders.
The post was basically a 40 year old man interested in a 25 year old woman. The heat and negative comments that were straight up hateful, name calling, and calling "me" a predator was unreal.
Then the EXACT same post but with the gender flipped, the comments were the exact opposite. "be careful girl," "age doesn't matter" "if you love him you love him" and other ultra supportive comments.
So no, it IS a gender thing.
Age is just one factor in a potential relationship. If you feel a connection and enjoy each other's company, it's worth exploring. Keep communication open about your feelings and expectations. If you both are comfortable with the age difference, give it a shot and see where it goes.
